Posting this here to see if it gathers any interest.

Words of advice:
1) Do not expect frequent updates. This is sort of a side-project.
2) No mods. I haven't even finished a vanilla game yet. If I finish a vanilla game maybe I'll consider adding mods since mods are in fact really fun but... Yeah.
3) This is with... I do believe I have all the DLC. I got it on sale.

Righto. So, I just finished my XCOM LP, and since there's an entire month left before XCOM 2 comes out... Here. Something to kill some time.

Yes, we are playing Civ 5. I haven't really gotten around to really really playing this game yet. I know how to play it (Unlike when I started XCOM EW) but I'm not good at it.

So I'd figure I'd let y'all play for me. Or advise me. If anyone's even interested in the first place.

First things first: Let's set up a game.

No mods, because I haven't even finished a vanilla game yet. So here's the set-up screen...

And here's the advanced set-up screen. Yay.

Anyways... So first, we pick our Civilization. Then we pick our map type and our map size.

Difficulty's going to be... Prince, or whatever Normal difficulty is because I'm a casual scrub, and game-pace is going to be set on... Standard.

Now that's a lot of civilizations. Like seriously. I'll get a proper vote set up after I go through them all.

Map sizes. We have Dual, Tiny, Small, Standard, Large and Huge. Oh boy.

And Map Type. Continents, Pangaea, Archipelago, Fractal and Earth.

So. How're we doing this.

Civilization: Okay, there are 43 fucking civilizations. So I'm just going to link to the wiki. Because seriously. And then just post which civ you want in [X] format because... Ergh.

Map Size:
[] Random
[] Dual
[] Tiny
[] Small
[] Standard
[] Huge

Map Type:
[] Random
[] Continents
[] Pangaea
[] Archipelago
[] Fractal
[] Earth

[X] Standard (because domination victory on a huge map is really tedious)
[X] Continents
[X] Random civ

Turn Zero
[X] Huge
[X] Earth
[X] Inca

Alrighty then.

TURN ZERO!

So these are the settings I'm playing on. You know since I'm a fucking scrub :V

Something something long intro something. Anyways, Councilors, Advisors, Wise Ones of SV. Let us begin.

So this is where we started. We've got a settler, and a warrior...

So I'm probably going to go make the warrior explore some random zones, but we could move the settler or just found our first city right where we are.

So. Councilors. Advise me.

(Do note that as we gain more and more cities I'm not going to throw up as many voting options otherwise this is going to turn really tedious really quickly. Because seriously. Fuck micromanagement.)

Settler's action:
[] Found the city right now, right here.
[] Move to another tile, then found the city.

Warrior's action:
[] Explore north.
[] Explore West.
[] Explore South.

[x] Found the city right now, right here.
[x] Explore South.

Hmm...

[x]Here's as good a place as any.

In my experience with 4x games, founding your initial settlement/base ASAP generally makes up for a lack of perfect positioning.

[x]Explore Southwest.

Because I feel like being different.

That looks like an okay spot. But something in me want to be closer to the mountains.

[X]Here's a good a place as any.

[X]Explore west.

If we can trace a border we can find where we are on a map of earth and make plans.

[X] Found the city right now, right here.
[X] Explore West.

We are Inca. Those forested hills only take one movement point. Let's get over there.

Looks like you're in Scandinavia to me.

[x] Found the city right now, right here.
[x] Explore West

[x] Found the city right now, right here.

[x] Explore South.

Could we have spawned in northern China? We're on a coast that goes in a kind of bulge-shape with a sea tile to the east and a land that might be Korea beyond that. The mountainous area to our north might be Manchuria.

Another guess would be that we're somewhere around Vietnam. In that case the land to the east could be Hainan island. But if that were the case I think we'd see a lot more jungle tiles rather than forest.

I distinctly recognise the shape of the coast- we're in Scandinavia a bit north of Stockholm's historical location, and that land to the east is Finland.

I don't know whether the Incas do better playing wide or tall, mind you.

They're better wide IIRC. Their Unique Ability gives them very cheap roads. The more cities you have, the more cheap city connections you can build.

Oh wow an written LP of Civilization V. I really enjoy this game anyway.

Settler's action:
[x] Found the city right now, right here.

Sounds like the best out of all possible spots although seriously the map could have given you a better starting position. Not too many Hills which doesn't help Inca that much although I see a Hill on the Northwest next to the two Mountains that will give some great food with a Terrace Farm. You also get the Coastal access plus the cattle and the two calendar resources. Overall not a bad city spot.

Warrior's action:
[x] Explore north.
If the others are right and this is Scandinavia you might really wanna go North and around Lappland through Finland and Russia to explore Europe.

... How do you even recognize the shape of the coa- There isn't even any coast!

... Quite frankly that's just impressive.

Anyways... Update in an hour or something. Need to take a shower.

I've played the Earth map a few times. China would, IIRC, have more jungle.

There's a fair few start locations in the Earth map, and it's a lot more set than normal. if you'd gotten Alaska, I would have voted for restart, because it's all Tundara and snow. :V

Turn One (Voting)
[X] Settle city right now
[X] Go west. (Three votes for South, Three votes for West, One vote for Southwest and One vote for North so I ended up flipping a coin.)

Anyways. TURN ONE.

Generic: So this is our first city, that will lead to a glorious Incan civilization that will GRIND THE LESSER CIVILIZATIONS BENEATH OUR SHINY METAL HEELS AHAHAH-

Advisor #1: ... I'm starting to have a bad feeling about this.

Generic: Aaaanyways. GLORIOUS CUSCO! AHAHAHA!

Almost forgot, we have another layout. This is the more... Strategic layout. Not as fun as the first layout but it's probably more informative.

So this game works on hexes. Kinda like a boardgame, actually it basically is a boardgame.

So as we move our warrior west we come across Ancient Ruins! And some Bison!

Now these are really nice. They can give us tech, cash, faith (Which we need for religious things) or free units. And that's really close so we really lucked out.

Now for some more voting options. Councilors. We need to research something and we need to build something.

Alright so in Civ 5, you can research technologies. Some pertain to war, some pertain to economic growth and some allow you to research more things. Or something.

So we have three choices. Well four choices. Pottery, Animal Husbandry, Archery or Mining. A more detailed list will be posted below for your convenience.

Also here's the full tech tree.

... Yeah there's a lot of stuff.

We can also produce things from our cities. Units, buildings that improve things inside the city, the works. So there're a lot of scores we need to keep track of. Food allows us to get more people in our cities faster, production allows our cities to build things faster, science allows us to research faster, gold allows us to straight up buy tiles/units/buildings, culture's needed for social policies and faith's needed for religion.

Yeah you have to keep track of a lot of things in this game. Over time I'll dial down on the voting options and basically 'Automate' things because otherwise these updates really are going to get really fucking tedious really fucking fast.

So four things we can do right now. We don't have enough people to build a settler (Which would allow us to found another city) but we can build a worker which can construct tile improvements, a scout which can scout shit and has really crappy combat ability, a really crappy warrior that can't scout but has better combat ability or a monument which boosts culture output inside the city by... I think one.

Also we can assign 'people' in cities to 'tiles'. They work the tiles and we get shit while they work the tiles. In this case, these dudes are assigned to the citrus tile, so we get three food and one gold per turn from them.

We can also buy tiles with gold if we have gold. We don't have gold.

Therefore: Councilors, the voting options!

Research:
[] Pottery (Unlocks Granary, which produces food, leads to Sailing, Calendar and Writing)
[] Animal Husbandry (Allows access to animal resources via the Pasture (Tile improvement) and reveals Horses. Also unlocks the Caravan and a trade route. Leads to Trapping and the Wheel.)
[] Archery (Unlocks the Archer and the Temple of Artemis (Great Work) and also leads to The Wheel.)
[] Mining (Unlocks the Mine (Tile Improvement) and allows Workers to chop down forests. Leads to Masonry and Bronze Working.)

Production (Cusco)
[] Monument
[] Scout
[] Warrior
[] Worker
