Gamer's Destiny - New Game Plus

The first thing she found when she turned was a door with the name of her street on it. The second one, was as series of puddles of green matter on the floor that kept on going in a trail down the tunnel.
Slowly and carefully I followed the puddles, knife at the ready.

It was in this moment that she realized that she had run in a forest. Somewhat.

The morning light pictured the area around her like a fairy tale, but only for the very few meters around. Beyond that, it was an impenetrable darkness.
As I ran, I attempted to summon up a simple light with magic to show my path. Even if it didn't work, I would continue. I was part-infernal after all, the dark was my element.

The bartender was almost walled by the mass of bodies that were in front of him, but he managed to spare a couple of words before being called away.

"Bachelor party for this girl. Over there." And he pointed towards the back of the place, where a girl dressed very well was drinking and laughing with other girls.
"Well good for her," I muttered as I grabbed my drink and headed to a distant corner to enjoy what I could of it. I was honest too, when I had said that, it looked like everyone was having a good time, the guest of honour most of all.

Somewhat apart from the crowd, I took my time with my beer as I watched the festivities. Maybe on the off chance that I saw someone I knew, or something interesting happened. If not, well, still better than being outside in the cold.

.....I'm....gonna go with up. Generally less dangerous things exist towards the surface. I walk in that direction, remaining alert.

The tunnel had a gentle curve towards the surface. The incline wasn't particularly steep, but still noticeable. Beyond that, the lights became more sparse and harder to see.

Slowly and carefully I followed the puddles, knife at the ready.

Soon the puddles of water turned from their black-blue to a more green tint. It was somewhat unsettling, especially when they seemed to have the consistency of jell-o.

"Alright, fine." Kyle thought. "Access Sewer Dungeon."

The world swirled and twirled around him, before changing.

Now, he was in a brick tunnel, walls stained with humidity, water droplets falling from the roof and a small trail of puddles on the floor. Behind him, a metal door with the name of the street from where he entered and, to his sides, the tunnel went on and one, lighted by yellow lights.

Her tries to summon a light were... well, it didn't work. Between the situation, her affinity working against her and the fact that she kept on running, her concentration was kind of shot.

This said, it seemed like the spotlight-like lighting that shone on the place followed her, at least as long as she kept on the trail.

The echo of an howl came from behind her.

Nobody she knew.

But one of the patrons seemed to have seen her and was now making 'come-here' eyes at her. Rather badly, seeing as he seemed to be badly drunk.

......

Yeah, I'm gonna need light, at least until this whole 'fae' thing gives me proper low light vision. Fae have that, right?

I pull on the mana that I tried to channel into a sphere earlier, rather than the crackling orb, and focus on a orb of light following me before channeling that through my staff.

That was a new experience. Kyle supposed he should have been less surprised. After all, the whole system was supposed to be based around an RPG, and he reasoned that what he'd just encountered was probably the systems version of a 'loading screen'.

From where he was standing, he looked at his surroundings. He hadn't considered it much before, but it fully hit him then that he was in a sewer dungeon. Emphasis on 'sewer'. Kyle couldn't help but feel just the tiniest bit disgusted by that thought.

"I am dressed completely inappropriately for this." He thought. He'd have to rethink his attire once he got out. If he was going to make the whole 'Life RPG' a major thing, his past clothing choices weren't going to cut it.

But that would come later. For now, he had a dungeon to explore as long as he was down here anyway. There wasn't any immediate quest in progress, but he suspected that the quest he'd just completed had been intended to get him down here, which suited him just fine. Dungeons usually came with monsters and treasure and quests of their own. He just needed to find them and not get himself killed in the process.

The lights he was thankful for, even if they weren't quite what he would have preferred - the major bonus was it meant he wouldn't need to use his Magelight, ensuring he could save his MP for other tasks.

Kyle looked down one tunnel, then the other, examining each in turn.

"Map On." He said.

I replaced the mage light with a mana arrow, as I was feeling paranoid as I followed the trail.

She kept on the trail as she ran. What else was she supposed to do?

She did listen very carefully to her surroundings however. If the "wolf" was hunting her, she'd at least try to be aware of when it attacked.

The mana ran into the wood, before appearing from the top of the train, a sphere that, on a more attentive eye, was more of a compact mass of fireflies or something like that.

The tunnel around him became instantly brighter.

The map appeared in front of him, showing a golden point - him - and a series of various tunnels all crisscrossing without rhyme or reason. They were on several floors, over and under his position, and several red dots ran around. None near him right now, but that demonstrated the existence of enemies.

The water kept staying that dirt-green color, before the puddles ended abruptly, leaving only clean floor in front of her.

She did listen very carefully to her surroundings however. If the "wolf" was hunting her, she'd at least try to be aware of when it attacked.

She couldn't hear anything, beyond the sound of her breath and her thumping heart. Her blood was rushing in her ears, masking the sound of the outside world, and her eyes darted to and fro, trying to take everything around her.

Fear was starting to take hold of her, her steps slowly hastening.

I took a deep breath. I didn't slam the book of my fears shut, for fear was important to keep me alert of the dangers around me, but I did turn back more then a few pages. Fear was helpful, but terror was a detriment.

And so I breathed. In. Out. And my feet thudded against the ground in a steady rhythm.

Immediatly I looked up. Where did the pudddles go?

The water on the roof was still there. It also dripped a little, the water drop echoing in the empty tunnel.

Then, something hit her back, a burning feeling making her back go up in agony.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

And so I breathed. In. Out. And my feet thudded against the ground in a steady rhythm.

The howl echoed again and she could see something in the corner of her eye: something big, full of fur and with sharp teeth.

I hold the spell, dragging it behind me as I look around. I'm well aware that it makes me a target, so I remain vigilant.

Apparently there was nothing around. And no one. The silence in the tunnel was eerie.

They were on several floors, over and under his position, and several red dots ran around. None near him right now, but that demonstrated the existence of enemies.

"Map Off." Kyle thought. He held his hand up, closed except for extending his index and middle finger like a two-point gun. He turned in the direction where he'd seen the least dense concentration of red dots, and proceeded forward in a cautious manner.

He'd really have to figure out that map at some point. Sure, it was useful, but it was also a pain to have to keep turning it on and off again. On to see what was around him, off so that it didn't block his view. He'd have to work on finding a happy medium that let him take full advantage of it without it being too much of a distraction.

Unless...

"Leela, is there a way to view the map subconsciously, like an image inside my mind?" He inquired. "Rather than, you know, the whole window thing that keeps blocking my view?"

I prepared a Water Ball in my hand, ready to fire it at any time. I was not sure if the Dark was my domain in this place, but it was not my only weapon.

I channel mana through the staff.

It didn't work. Or there weren't any invisible enemies.

In the following silence, he could hear the click of several claws on the wet cement in the dark in front of him, weak and far away.

And, with a little blip, what could only be called a mini-map appeared in his head: it had all the same information as the window, but it was more of an awareness of everything around him than a map. It moved with him and, while the feeling was a bit strange at first, it soon became pretty easy to use and adapt to.

The creature growled, before vanishing into the darkness. She kept on running, her legs starting to burn badly.

I screamed before whipping around to face the thing and blasted it with a mana arrow, before taking a step back.

The arrow hit the green puddle, that shrugged the hit away, only part of its body flaking off in dust. Then, wobbled towards her, sneding another shot of green acid against her chest.

"Awesome." Kyle said with a large smile on his face.

What basically amounted to a full sense of area awareness? All the benefits of the power without any of the drawbacks?

Now that was a real superpower.

"Thank you, Leela."

He continued to advance down the tunnel, his attention mostly on what was immediately around him while still making sure to pay attention to the map inside his head, mostly for signs of any red dots that might be close - or that might be coming in his direction.

I resisted the urge to scream as I grasped at my mana, using it for the acid off of me, before hurling it at the slime with one command. One order. Devour. I WANTED my mana to act like a poison, eating the thing from the inside out.

Then I moved out of range of it's attacks.

The creature growled, before vanishing into the darkness. She kept on running, her legs starting to burn badly.
My legs had been burning badly for a while, and they would continue to do so as well, but that was no reason not to stop. Especially not in a place where I suspected stopping could lead to a rather bloody demise.

I continued to run, adrenaline and a controlled fear pushing me on.

Alright then.

I hold the staff in one hand and pull out the knife with the other, holding it at the ready as I walk forward, prepared to slice anything that comes at me.

Thanks to the map, navigating the tunnels was pretty easy. Every time he came near a door - that represented a manhole covering up in the streets - the map would update automatically with the information, including where they would appear.

Then, suddenly, a red dot started to walk... no, run towards him.

Fast.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then I moved out of range of it's attacks.

The mana simply turned into a ball of energy that splashed against the ooze, sending several droplets all around, already flaking into dust. It didn't work much more than that.

Also, its range was smaller than she thought. Only a couple of steps and its shots couldn't reach her anymore.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I continued to run, adrenaline and a controlled fear pushing me on.

While she ran, she heard again the howling. This time far more close than before. Glancing to her left, she could see the wolf.

Now, though, had assumed the shape of a wolf-man, taller than her by a wide margin, fur covering rippling muscles and fangs longer than before. His eyes were fixed on her, both in lust and in hunger.

To make matters worse, the circle of light around her started to slowly shrink. By centimeters.

On the plus side, she could see the end of the forest in the distance: A point where leaves and trees left space to concrete and houses.

Nothing. Apparently.

Well, nothing for the first hundred meters, until the sound of claw scraping and squeaking became louder.

It came just around the bend.

I'm about to go around the corner when a thought occurs and I smirk, putting away the knife and gripping the staff in both hands.

"Show yourself." I say loudly enough to probably carry around the corner. For all I know, there are Ratmen, and they aren't inherently violent.

But I'm not holding out much hope.

If something comes around the corner and comes at me, I simply throw a arc at it, channeling it through the staff, on the presumption that 'chaos' and 'orderly system of living tissue' do not care to mix.
