Teen Spirit

Lost in Ever After
Pronouns
He/Him
Trailer is out, surprisingly late considering the season starts in a bit over a month.

Featuring, Jon Snow Totally Dead *Hint Hint, wink wink*, Mel admitting she's full of shit, possible lesbians, Bran finally getting off the boat, the Ironborn, Tyrion's increasingly large beard, Davos about to kick ass, Tower of Joy, and a blind girl getting the shit kicked out of her, among other things.

I'll probably watch it even though I really don't want to, then laugh at it forever.

God, nothing will ever equal the highs and lows of watching Hardhome then the two episodes after that. Unless all the dead Starks suddenly and spontaneously bring themselves back to life and conquer half the Seven Kingdoms and Danaerys sails across the Narrow Sea, only for Ramsay to conquer the other half of the Seven Kingdoms and sit on the Iron Throne and suddenly reveal he was working with the White Walkers all along before assassinating the Night's King with Twenty Good Men and assuming control of the Others army too.

Yeah. Admittedly Hardhome proved the show can do something that's not in the book and make it actually quite good. Personally the Bolton verus Wildling scenes in the Trailer make me very hopeful that Kind of Zombie!Jon Snow kills Ramsay this season, though knowing this show Ramsay will probably be a huge threat that kills a few named characters before he goes down.

So this is a Season 5 thing but you know how last season kind of ruined Stannis by having him burn his daughter to death. Well Funny story about that. Turns out that was GRRM's intention all along.

I have mixed feelings, to say the least.

On the one hand, I can't help but to be curious to see where things go in the coming batch of ten episodes. I've stuck with it for five years and its something of a struggle to jump ship at this point. That being said, since about season 4, I couldn't shake the feeling that this was a story that had passed its natural end-point and gone into overtime. There's been a general feeling of desperate aimlessness at play that never really came through in the first three seasons.

Part of that comes down to the fact that, given all the horrible things that keep happening again and again, Game of Thrones feels like a show that keeps restating the same point over and over again. The showrunners seem to have latched onto the idea that they need to keep having these shocking moments throughout each season, that its those moments that lie at the heart of the narrative's appeal. I can say for certain that the only such moment that genuinely got to me from last year was the sacrifice of Shireen Baratheon. Beyond that one instance, every other major event carried the dull weight of inevitability because, at this point, the only genuine surprise would be if something good actually happened.

I don't know but, even though it would have left several narrative threads dangling, it might have been for the best if things had just ended where they had in season four with Tyrion and Arya each hopping aboard a ship and leaving Westeros behind.

I'd take it with a grain of salt, the site doesn't mention that it's Ian Glen (Jorah) claiming it is after he asks the director for that episode if it is and he says he doesn't know.

The longer this show goes on the less get excited about it. I'll likely still watch it, but I can't say I'm invested. They've killed off all the good characters. Also as a side note, why is Yara gay now? She's not in the books. She very very straight in the books. Is it an attempt at being inclusive? Pandering? Or is it the old chestnut that any non-feminine woman must be gay? I'm not really sure which I'd see as more problematic.

There's a theory that Yara is going to take Victarion's place in his storyline in all ways, including trying to marry her to get her to join his side instead of Euron. Makes sense that they would show Yara being gay in the trailer then (well, besides the usual titillation). Although I don't know how the hell they would try to justify it in the context of Westeros, especially the Iron fucking Islands of all places.

My best guess is that she's going to argue that she's basically a man anyway that she should be seen as one. My guess is that they're going to cut the "Iron Islands goes to get Dany" story and going to replace it with the North. Since it's clear that Theon somehow gets back to the Islands he'll have Sansa, so I'd put money down right now that Yara tries to seduce Sansa to gain control over the North.

I doubt it. There's jokes that D&D are writing their own fanfiction, but that seriously sounds like something from FF.net. And besides, she looks like she's in a sunny city. Not really the look of the North.

If you look at the background of 0:46 she's in a cobblestone building that has rather ratty looking blinds. Sort of fits the Iron Islands.

I think Yara's gay as some sort of counter balance to them turning Dany from very clearly bi in the books to basically straight in the show. Or titulation, or they kind of misunderstood who Qarl the Maid was, or They figured the audience experts the strong female warrior to be gay. At least it's not like with Loras where it became his only character trait, Yara's been a character since Season 2 and this is the first it's coming up.

Well in theory she could claim Dany as a Salt Wife, best I got.

Probably not. As trailer speculator types have pointed out, the colors behind Yara and the lady she's with both look like something you'd see in Essos and not the North. So yeah, She's probably replacing her uncle, sadly I very much doubt we'll get crazy Yara Greyjoy with a molten hand. Though why they're likely keeping that plotline is a bit of mystery since um, Dany has ships in Show canon.

She's also not at war either, and the timeline for all that is messed up real bad. Plus the Dragon Horn is a lot more magical than the show's canon has been.

Normally I would agree but the war could happen this season, or they could just make the sons of the harpy really strong or something and last season had Hardhome so the Dragon horn wouldn't be too out of line with that sort of level of magic.

Gonna be honest, I'm going to be watching Season 6 just for Tyrion and Varys running another city.

Its weird how I've gone from thinking that the Lannisters are the incarnation of all evil, to this season where I'm going to be cheering for them against Dorne and the Faith Militant.

Was that Mellisandre with Varys and Tyrion in Slavers Bay?

That was Israeli actress Ania Bukstein, a new character. Probably a white, genderflipped version of Moqorro.
