From the Egg to the Stars (A Dragon Quest)

You didnt take into account the god one.

The problem with gods is that they're all over the place. Is this potential god Thor on a walkabout? Is it Shirley, the local goddess of like, a one-mile section of river? Is it Stefan, the god of cheerful hobos, who likes to wander the world and play practical jokes on people who don't let him sleep in their barns and is magically banned from ever owning anything but a spare pair of dirty socks?

You have no idea what you're going to get.

This is a pretty good argument, for people who are voting like a dragon. (Not for me, though. I just think the adventuring party has the best potential for wacky hijinks.) However, I must point out that you're making the assumption that the princess is going to still have access to her wealth. It'd be sort of weird for a princess to be in a forest unescorted, after all, and what kind of escort would let a princess adopt a baby dragon on a whim? If we get a princess, she's probably going to be on the run from her usurper uncle or something.

(Not that I would mind that; that would be great in my book. Just pointing out that the reasoning isn't necessarily sound.)

A certain amount of fairy tale adventuring may be required. I acknowledge that the princess may not be currently able to exercise all the benefits of her station in society, due to evil fairies, villainous indirect relatives, or headstrong desire to avoid arranged marriage. But that's just an excuse for adventure. That just means we need to go break a curse, or devour a usurper, or something. It doesn't mean the princess isn't valuable; it just means she's not very liquid, as it were. Having a princess is like having a signed cashier's check. It's just paper right this moment, but as soon as you reach the bank it's gold.

Eh, you know what, I'm convinced. Totally down for being the dragon kidnapped by a princess.

[X] A Princess!

Aaaaand vote closed! Can someone get me a tally? Though I do believe the princess has won.

I would also like to reveal that when Dragons hatch on this world, they're about the size of kittens. Don't worry, they grow quickly, they just start out really really small. Regardless, I shall get to writing!

Princess Alaina
[X] A Princess

The creature looking at you through the underbrush is small. Not quite as small as you, but it looks juvenile. You watch each other silently for several moments before the tension that had filled the space between you is shattered by a pang on hunger from your horribly empty belly.

Forgetting the creature for a moment, you can't help but curl in on yourself and whine your distress, the terrible hollowness inside you almost painful in its intensity. At the back of your mind, you sense the creature coming closer, but you cannot bring yourself to care at this point, you're just too tired and hungry.

You hear the creature kneel in front of you, and you let out a squeak of surprise as gentle hands find your sides, carefully lifting you into its lap. "Are you okay?" the creature asks, your innate gift of tongues allowing you to understand it. As if in reply, your belly rumbles once again, loud enough for you both to hear. "Oh!" The creature exclaims, "are you hungry, little one?"

You're about to let out a somewhat pitiful squeak in when you hear another voice in the woods and you freeze. "Princess!? Princess Alaina, where are you!?" One of these creatures is bad enough, but two? As if in response to your uncertainty, your belly rumbles again, reminding you that you do need to eat, and soon.

"I'm over here, Laurel!" The person holding you replies, drawing you into her arms and standing up, your body too weak to do much more than adjust until you're somewhat comfortable. "You have to look at what I found!"

Another creature, like the first but bigger and more red in the face, crashes into the clearing. "What have I told you about wandering… off…" it says, its voice trailing away as it catches sight of you, the red colour in its face seems to drain away as it makes eye-contact with you, and after a few seconds of silence, it looks up at the one now carrying you in its arms. "That's a… that's a dragon, Princess. Please forgive my surprise, but how in all that is holy did you find a dragon in the woods?"

"I heard it calling! Isn't it lovely?" The creature (princess?) carrying you chirps as she carries you over to the wary creature, which is once again staring at you in something that appears to be shock.

"Uh… Yes, princess… lovely…" It says, voice somewhat faint. Surprisingly, this seems to draw the ire of the princess, who's voice becomes stern from above you.

"Laurel." States the princess, drawing both of your gazes towards her, something quite difficult for you due to how you're being carried. "I already told you. You don't have to call me Princess when it's just us. Alaina is fine."

Laurel seems suitably chastised as it bows its head to Alaina. "My apologies Prin… Alaina."

"That's better." Alaina says, voice suddenly sunny again as she smiles. She begins to speak once more, but is stopped as your belly lets out its most insistent grumble yet, which causes Alaina to burst into giggles.

"Perhaps we should cut our walk short for today." She states, lifting you so that she can look you in the eyes. "My new friend is very hungry, and I hate to see it suffer like this. Can we go to the kitchens now?"

Without waiting for a response, Alaina holds you close again and walks with you out into the woods, Laurel trailing after you both. "I don't see why not, though I think we should probably show it to your father before we do anything more with it."

Alaina nods at this, her face twisting slightly as she thinks for a moment before looking at you again. You match her gaze, chirping at her questioningly. "I don't like calling you 'it'" Alaina says, making a face, "so how about I call you _____ instead?"

It's time for a name!

What name will Princess Alaina suggest?

[ ] Write-In

So I rolled for it, and the princess who found you is a kid, somewhere between eight and twelve years old. Her Maidservant, Laurel, is a little put upon, but genuinely likes the Alaina and sees her as almost a little sister. Laurel is a little wary of you, but that's because she's never actually seen a dragon of any sort outside of heraldry before. Alaina thinks you're adorable and is a kid, so naturally, she loves you already.
