PERSONA
Hero name:
Bedrieër
Real name: Johanna Famke Majaandie
Sex: Female
Age: 26
Bio: Born to a wealthy landowning family in Stellenbosch, Johanna Famke Majaandie is the image of Boer femininity, except for one, single thing... She is absolutely ruthless. Chosen as a way of avoiding tests on non-white citizens, her powers have only served to heighten her abilities to manipulate all those around her into seeing things her way.

Schooled in the most prestigious private schools, engaged at a young age to a Dutch magnate who was humiliated by the revelation of his infidelity and lost half his assets to his distraught wife only a few short years after their childless marriage, everything has a way of coming up Johanna.

Public persona: Bedrieër's powers are a poorly kept secret. While she often appears for photo ops and parties, often she leaves all second-guessing themselves. How can you trust the quality of her banter, or the persuasiveness of her ideas, if you don't know whether those thoughts are truly your own? This aura of suspicion only strengthens her, as she can play the suspicions of one rival against another without every really using her powers at all.

Hero Name: Wraith
Real Name: Tanabe Ryou
Sex: Male
Age: 25
Origin: Fukuoka, Japan
Bio: Ryou was born in his mother's hometown, Fukuoka, on the island of Kyushu in 1930. His father, Keiichi, was an officer in the Imperial Japanese Navy and thus frequently absent throughout his childhood; he died at the Battle of Midway when Ryou was twelve. In 1945, Ryou, his mother, and his younger sister fled the firebombing of Fukuoka and found refuge in the nearby town of Itoshima, where they later witnessed the atomic bombing of Nagasaki less than a hundred miles to the south. After the war ended and the United States began their occupation of Japan, Ryou and his family moved to live with uncle, Dr. Tanabe Shigeo, in Tokyo. His uncle had previously worked for the Japanese military as a medical researcher - specifically, as a member of Unit 731, a covert biological and chemical warfare research and development unit which undertook lethal experimentation on Chinese civilians during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The war's conclusion coincided with a widespread cover-up of the unit's atrocities and the granting of immunity from war crimes prosecution to its members by the Americans. Four months later, Shigeo and a number of his former colleagues joined a new, American-backed unit dedicated to the burgeoning study of Ambrosia and its capacity to induce superhuman abilities in certain individuals; four years later, Shigeo had risen to the rank of Lt. General and served as the unit's second-in-command. As far as his family or anyone else was concerned, he just worked in a hospital.

For several years the unit's principal goal - the creation of a Japanese superhuman - remained elusive due to a dearth of viable candidates who tested positively to Ambrosia exposure. Lt. General Tanabe himself was initially considered a viable candidate with stellar susceptibility scores; however, he was ultimately removed from contention after further testing also revealed an undiagnosed terminal illness. It was then that the members of the unit turned their attention to Ryou, Shigeo's closest blood relative and a young man in peak physical condition. When the twenty-year-old was discretely tested under the guise of a routine doctor's appointment, the researchers were astounded at their good fortune: they surmised that they would not find a better match than him in the entire country. However, at that time Ryou was a rising star in the world of Japanese professional baseball and was being scouted as a top pitching prospect for the coming season - he had no interest in taking part in a shady government experiment. No matter how much his uncle begged, he flatly refused to undergo the procedure.

Three months later, Ryou was driving to practice when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle. The accident left him with injuries which prevented from playing at anywhere close to his previous level, shattering his dreams of being a professional athlete. Despondent and directionless, he naturally jumped at his uncle's second offer to undergo the procedure - he was led to believe it could have the side effect of curing the chronic pain and stiffness in his right arm. He thought nothing of the fact that the car accident - an unsolved hit-and-run - had occurred so soon after he had declined to the undergo the procedure voluntarily. He believed his uncle was not that kind of man.

Unfortunately for Ryou's persistent aspirations to baseball fame, the injection of Ambrosia did not return to him his ability to pitch at the professional standard. What it did do was endow him with powerful superhuman abilities; namely, the power to shift into a shadow state of living darkness capable of flight, movement, extrasensory perception, invisibility, intangibility, and electronic interference. Deciding that becoming Japan's sole superhero was a satisfying alternative to professional sport, Ryou agreed to don a mask, costume, and code-name, receive grueling military training, and work to protect his country. In 1955, Ryou was officially introduced to the world as Wraith, the Shadow Hero. However, it is suspected that he may have worked covertly as a spy and assassin throughout East Asia at the behest of the Japanese government and Central Intelligence Agency since at least 1953.

Public Persona: Ryou's public persona is reserved, mysterious, and more than a little intimidating. This largely stems from the unnerving nature of Ryou's abilities, as well as from the desire of his government handlers to restrict the international community's knowledge of his powers or personality. In the few interviews he has given to the press since his debut, he was perceived by some to be arrogant, blunt, and cold, while others thought him cool and collected.
Appearance: Beneath his black body armor, mask, cowl, and cloak, Ryou is tall, broad-shouldered and athletic.

Her majesty's government is requesting the heroes of the Commonwealth of Nations to be part of an organization of superheroes. Anyone interested in joining such an organization for the betterment of the Commonwealth of Nations?

I'm interested in the different organizations managing the Ambrosia project of each country. For instance, my United States has Taskforce: Brumides, an interdepartmental working group with a leadership council of military brass, executive branch bureaucrats, and scientists; subject to Congressional oversight.

The Department of Superhuman Affairs, or SoHA, is eight blokes and a dog working out of a shed somewhere past Gunnedah.

Hero name: Queen Morrigan
Real name:
Siobhan Sheehan
Sex:
Female
Age:
21
Biography:

By official accounts, Siobhan Sheehan was a young Irish lass, a bold and genius scientist when she volunteered for a government program. Although a woman in a man's world, she quickly impressed her peers and was a leading voice in the small world of Irish science and the even smaller field of Ambrosia experiments. In service to her nation, Ms. Sheehan personally volunteered for the trials, which proved a resounding success in embuing her with superhuman abilities. Naturally then, she took to her new state of being to continue her service as an protector of the Irish people.

That's all bullshit.

Siobhan Sheehan was eighteen and pregnant, an orphan who got knocked up by a sleazeball. Desperate for cash, she signed up as a lab rat for Project Shamrock, a barely functional research project headed by one Doctor Daniel Cullen and funded by a dwindling research grant. Dr. Cullen was just as desperate as Ms. Sheehan.

But Ms. Sheehan was not Dr. Cullen's target. The scientist, after a long string of failures, had grown to believe that an easier solution to Ambrosian enrichment could be administered to an undeveloped human, a child. The aim was to pump Ambrosia into Ms. Sheehan before and during childbirth, not for her benefit, but to force a superhuman birth. Ms. Sheehan was told very little of this and she in fact believed that it was a method to ensure the health of her child.

It was an abject failure. Ms. Sheehan's vitals fluctuated wildly and she nearly died several times. When all was said and done, Dr. Cullen made the horrifying discovery that the child was lost. But, in this he cared little, for evaluation of Sheehan revealed that she had fully bonded with the Ambrosia. He had his superhero, just not exactly according to plan.

Given extra payment in exchange for her loss and offered a generous salary for serving the Irish Government under NDA, Sheehan was convinced to keep compliant. At least, on the surface. In truth, the incident left her broken and longing. They had stolen her child from her and denied her promise of motherhood. And so Sheehan became a mother anyway, a mother not to one child, but the Irish Nation. Through her own volition, Sheehan has erected her persona as a symbol of the nation, of resistance and pride. And she would protect and cherish and shape her child, no matter what anyone else thought.

Public persona:
Morrigan has cultivated a virginal persona, a pure and innocent woman meant to represent the Irish people. And despite her age, she has managed to exude a matronly attitude, frequently appearing in charities and assistance programs as a protector.

Hero name: Queen Morrigan
Real name: Siobhan Sheehan
Sex: Female
Age: 21

Public persona: Morrigan has cultivated a virginal persona, a pure and innocent woman meant to represent the Irish people. And despite her age, she has managed to exude a matronly attitude, frequently appearing in charities and assistance programs as a protector.

@inquisition could I actually suggest waiving the 1/3 of one's power points rule for heroes under, say, 15 ap? Right now it makes doing a specialized low-power hero like, say, the x-men completely impossible, which feels kind of odd

Lotta great entries, guys! Keep up the good work!

Sweden is yours, Tier 3.

Oh, yeah, sorry, she's fine - if threadmarked, a hero is accepted.

This is going to sound dumb, but does Piloting affect the power of Flight and does Shooting affect a power that requires you to shoot at enemy targets? If not, then I feel like I blew an unnecessary amount of points into those skills for no reason. 😅
