Yeah, I was expecting actual panic there. This seems oddly low key. On the other hand, maybe the pounding headache is currently occupying too much of her attention for it to really sink in yet?
Even that shouldn't distract her that much. Pain is something she's familiar with. Not having her sisters there is completely unprecedented. Like waking up missing your legs, if your legs were also your only friends.

I didn't actually think of their reaction to lack of connection when I first wrote this. There are always things you overlook. May rewrite this in the future, or maybe add stuff in the next update.

Recovery and Discovery

Life among the family that had taken her in was quite strange for Misaka. She wasn't used to having others look out for her the way they did aside for her siblings. Even the scientists were only interested in maximizing the efficiency of their work. The couple let her be so she could heal and tried to help her whenever she needed anything, even if it was hard to bring things across due to the language barrier.

However, this left her with much free time as she couldn't help out in the house without feeling pain course through her body. She spent it with attempts to learn the local language and was often helped by the couple's daughter. The girl seemed smart and vigilant in a way that she had seen on few people her physical age.

Misaka didn't have any experiences with foreign languages, except for some English that she had been required to learn for her training in weapon use and some military techniques.

It was surprisingly easy to find common words, though the sentence structure took a bit more work. After a couple days, she had managed to hold a very short conversation with the girl, who had told her, her name was Sonea.

*Scene Break*

The clone of the famous #3 was halfway sitting as she and the other girl in the room were trying to find common ground. It had taken some time for them to come up with a way to learn each other's language. In the end, they decided for the simple, but relatively well working method of 'point at something and name it'.

"......" She said while pointing at the wooden stool on which she was sitting and Misaka nodded, doing her best to remember the word.

She pointed at herself and said "Sonea" before pointing at the bedridden girl and raised an eyebrow.

"Misaka" Te answer followed after a moment, and then there was a listing of words and the correct counterpart in Misaka's own language. She wasn't quite sure why, but the other girl actually seemed to try her best to learn Nihon-go during the session.

She couldn't quite say why.

Forming entire sentences was of course harder and took effort and concentration on Misaka's part.

"How are you feeling now?" Asked Sonea with careful and pronunciation. Even then it took the brunette a few seconds to understand what she was saying and then another short while to formulate an answer.

"Much better, my shoulder barely hurts anymore, though my ribs are stinging sometimes, says Misaka thankful that you worry for her." Her own pronunciation was also slow and careful, to avoid making any more mistakes than necessary.

Her host blinked and tilted her head in confusion.

"It is probably still to early for real speech." She said to herself.

That said, they returned to repeating words and using the correct pronuncation, a confused Misaka wondering what she had done wrong.

*Scene Break*

"Here" The older man said, while he pressed the black riffle in Misaka's hand with a smile. "We found it with you and looked after it for a while." The girl blinked, her hands roaming over the weapon that had likely lain on the ground next to her. It was a special 'Toy Soldier' submachine gun that had been given to each of the Sisters.

In a way, it was one of the precious things that remained her of the home. She looked up and made a small bowing motion, only her head really showing anything as she was still very stiff and couldn't move easily in the bed.

"What is it anyway?" He asked, curiosity colouring his voice even as his sharp eyes looked over the item. Misaka wondered if he had given the gun back to her only because his wife and daughter were around to tell him to do so.

With quick motions, she checked the weapon for any modifications or missing parts. From what she could tell, they didn't know that they were holding a deadly weapon and nothing had changed with the gun. She was certainly relieved over this, as she had feared one of them may try to tinker with the weapon and accidentally hurt someone. Or that someone had stolen it and was using it to commit a crime. But it looked like they had left it alone out of respect for their guest.

"It is..." Misaka frowned. The language was not too hard to learn and she had some simple words down, but some less common terms were unknown. "Something, for protection..., says Misaka while searching for words." She mumbled, switching back to Japanese halfway through her words.

The man nodded and looked at the weapon again before shrugging.

Her turned around and stepped out of the room again, one foot moving slower than the other.

*Scene Break*

As for the older woman, her name was Jonna and she seemed to always check her surrounding carefully and also looked over her man quite often for some reason. The man who had given her back her gun was called Ranel and appeared only from time to time. It looked like the limp in his foot was permanent. He was still surprisingly agile even with his wound, but Misaka sometimes saw signs of suppressed pain in his face. It looked this place didn't have much in the sense of medical technology, or maybe they couldn't pay for treatment?

Over the days, she discovered that the room she slept in was only one small part of something closer to a mansion. It appeared like her rescuers were working for a rather wealthy family of some kind and thus needed to live in the same house, though in other places. She didn't get more than a few short looks at the owner of the building, but they seemed to wear fine clothes, dresses and suits that looked very expensive. That meant they were quite rich.

She also met other members of the family, 'Kerrel', a small boy of indeterminate age and a baby that the couple called 'Hania'.

There was a rather strange conversation where she attempted to explain her origin. Academy city was unknown here as expected, though lack of true understanding complicated any conversation. In addition, for some reason the older woman called Jonna had an odd fixation on her skirt.

She asked repeatedly whether it was really what she wore normally. And when told that girls her age wore them commonly from what she knew, a sound of shock escaped the woman and she looked almost ready to faint for a moment. Misaka didn't understand why they were acting like that. It was a perfectly normal school uniform from all the information that she had available. They called it... scandalous?

How strange.

When she mentioned the Esper development program and the ability users, they said something about '..........'. She didn't have any way to translate the word from one language to another as they were going by the *point at something, say the name, then say your name for it* method and apparently it was something that was not quite physical. Once again, detailed information was hard to come by due to the lack of easy translation. She did have the feeling that it was something that was similar to Espers as that seemed to have brought them to mention '........'

Of course there were also a number of attempts to reconnect with the Misaka Network, but her work remained fruitless, day after day being filled with silence. It was... disturbing, frustrating and in a way also exhilarating. Maybe she would have considered it a chance for something new and unusual if she still had the choice of reconnecting at any time, but currently she was just unhappy.

When she didn't attempt to decipher the language or tried to do many other things, she was generally just observing her surrounding. Since the strange event that had brought her to this place, she had started to feel unusual things. There was a sense of... power in the air around her, but she couldn't quite grasp it. Misaka got the first clue to what was going on when she tripped only a few days after waking up in the home of the family and almost fell to the ground.

Fortunately, Sonea was present when that happened and helped her remain steady.

The other girl held her arm and the brunette couldn't help but feel something in her. Without really thinking, her mind drifted into a state of analysis of some kind. She could feel an impression of power inside Sonea.

What Misaka sensed was a feeling she couldn't quite describe. There was a touch of energy flowing through the other girl and a small sense of... she couldn't quite describe it. The energy she could sense was not at all like electricity, but acted more like some kind of fluid. She could feel it flowing and filling the other girl's body.

And she also felt that her energy was aligned in some way. The closest she could compare it to were colours. She could feel a distinctive feeling of Red and Blue coming from the other girl, with other things mixed in to smaller extents. Yet that wasn't quite right. They weren't so much Blue and Red, as they were impressions of what could be of these colours. She couldn't understand what that meant but it was what stuck to her mind.

"You alright? Do I have something on my face?" It took Misaka a moment to get her thoughts back in order before she answered, leaning on the other girl while trying to stand normally again.

"I was just thinking, explains Misaka, while hoping that her strange feelings are not going to be noticed." The other girl blinked and frowned for some reason and after a moment Sonea muttered to herself. "Maybe I am overestimating her talent with languages."

It took over three weeks for Misaka to get her injuries to the point where she could once again move without any real problems. Before that, any walking had been limited to short times due to the pain. In fact, she had been given some kind of pain killer and continued to take it for quite a while. That didn't mean she was perfectly fine, but at that point she could start helping out in the household. And she could also for the first time leave the house to take a look at the city of Imardin as she had heard it being called.

OOC: Edited last post to include a part where she notices the Absence of the Network and reacts to it.

...Did Misaka just get tripped, fall into Sonea's arms, stare at her face, and then declare she had 'strange feelings'?

Better hope Sonea has never heard of the romantic comedy genre or it uses different tropes on this world.

Ha.

Yeah, seeing how everyone reacts to her style of speech is going to be awesome.

How much funny can the author get out that? XD

So, what has she actually told them? When she tried to explain the Esper Development program did she demonstrate her own? Why hasn't Sonea noticed Misaka's verbal ticks before now? With the exception of the last few paragraphs this section is "tell" more than "show" and suffers for it. "Showing" them stumbling over language barriers trying to understand each other might be difficult, but could be amusing if done well.

She only gave a vague Explanation, saying that she came from a place called Academy City where people with Special powers are trained. (Named a couple examples etc...) Obviously she didn't Show them her powers as she wasn't sure how they would react to anything like that considering she hadn't seen anyone use such abilities. here. If she did, she would have been mistaken for a foreign magician.

That scene above is pretty early after waking up, (I should probably mention that it hasn't been Long in the Scene itself, editing that.) with her just having learned some Basics and although she has noticed the tick before, at that point Sonea still thinks it is because she is not quite that good with the language yet. Misaka is really good at learning languages due to Planeswalker Spark stuff, but People think she has Problems due to the way she speaks.

I have a tendency to do the "tell" instead of "Show". I don't even notice it most of the time, so thank you for pointing it out. Yeah, it could be fun if I manage to do it right. I may throw in a Scene or two of Sonea trying to teach Misaka the language and getting confused. Maybe I should try to edit the last Scene to do more "Show"? May just do so, could give the Story more life.

I don't think -_- is influenced by EM waves. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Or are you referring to radio noise?

Erm... Accelerator card seems broken. Not in terms of ability, but in how said ability works.

I would recommend...

B : Accelerator gets +0/+1 until end of turn.
B : Accelerator gets +1/+0 until end of turn.
Whenever Accelerator blocks or is blocked, you may pay BBBB. Until the end of the turn, Accelerator gets +X/+X where X is equal to the total power of all opposing creature(s).

Before Heaven Canceler posted that version, I was thinking of something along the lines of:

(2URBB)
Legendary Creature - Human Esper
Whenever an effect targets Accelerator, you may choose new targets for that effect.
Whenever damage is assigned to Accelerator, you may instead assign the damage to a target creature, player, or Planeswalker.
6/3

From the wiki: "Unique to Electromaster is the ability to be influenced by electromagnetic waves that they feel unpleasant towards which manifests itself as something like being watched."

I think it appears in one arc from the Railgun Anime.

It is hard to translate his bullshit power in a way that doesn't break the game, so I decided to make him evil broken.

That one is also interesting. Though I gave him 1/1 because he is a thin teenager with barely any muscles when not using his powers.

Huh? Why doesn't it make sense. It just says that when fighting you may pay X and multiply it either by the other involved creature's power or by X. The end result becomes Accelerators Power.

The wording is ff if you want to do that. Because you get this, you're going to get players who pat 1 mana to multiple by target creature's power every time.

What you want for the text is;

Whenever Accelerator is blocked or blocks, player may pay X; until end of turn, Accelerator's power becomes X, or Accelerator's power is multiplied by X, or Accelerator's power is multiplied by the total power of X creatures blocking or is blocked by Accelerator.

The until end of turn is important and makes that card not broken because Accelerator's power isn't constant and is more reflective than a constant power up.

I just realized something hilarious: they are learning japanese from Misaka. Any attempt to speak in her language will tend to imitate her speech patterns

Chapter 3: A Look At The City

"Okay, let us go." The pale girl spoke, throwing a look back at her partner.

Misaka nodded and followed the older girl while holding onto the braided basked Jonna had given her. It was not heavy, but she was somewhat unused to carrying things after the long time of bed rest and lack of real training. So helping Sonea with the shopping would be a good way to get her body back into form. And she would be able to help the people that had taken her in.

The fact that she would for the first time get a real look at the city was also a nice extra.

She only wished that she could have worn her normal clothes. Unfortunately, the older man and woman had both decided that it was far too unusual and showed too much of her body. It was strange to her, considering it was the clothing she had gotten from the scientists like all other Misakas.

Still, it was not worth to debate about something like this and the brown haired girl had given in after a short time. At least her new clothing was not too restricting and closer to pants than a long skirt. It would be horrible to try fighting and moving fast in such long clothing. She much preferred her uniform.

"You said we need to get fish, asks Misaka with curiosity?"

The other girl turned her head slightly back while walking through the streets. It was still early in the morning and the number of pedestrians was rather small, but it would only grow over time.

"Yeah, only a member of the families would be able to regularly buy good fish." She said while turning a corner and following some invisible signs Misaka couldn't see. It seems like she was very experienced when it came to finding her way in the city. She barely looked at which way she was taking, looking out for any of the other people instead.

"Why would fish be so rare, asks Misaka after a moment?" The girl tilted her head slightly, taking care to not move to fast, lest she end up opening some wounds again. She had heard that the city was situated next to a river which led into the ocean after a short time when going in one direction.

Sonea gave her a disbelieving look before blinking. "What.. oh yeah, you couldn't know. The Tarali stinks. It is so dirty, aunt Jonna often says that no self-respecting fish would ever let itself be found there. The ships have to go either a good deal stream-upwards or travel out into the ocean if they want to capture good fish. And of course the Noble families don't want any fish, but the best of the best." She sighed and then they stood in front of a big wall of stone, with a great gate where people were coming in and out.

Four bored looking men in light leather armour, helmets and wearing short swords on their belts stood left and right of the big gate. From time to time, one would wave a person or group of the pedestrians aside to check them out in some way. She couldn't see too much because Sonea was already walking through the gate and Misaka had to keep up with her.

"You know, I still cannot quite believe you speaking with all that narrating is normal for you. I mean, is it common for people to talk like that where you come from?"

Misaka halted for a moment when she thought about the question. It had happened after around the first week that their language work had come to the point where Sonea asked why she continued to narrate herself. The Esper had of course told her that this was the normal way for her to speak. The other girl had at first thought she was joking, but after some time she seemed to accept it.

"Well it is not universally accepted, explains Misaka after some thought, but the majority of these she knows speak in such a way." Well, it was true. The scientists and Accelerator didn't talk like her, but all of her Sisters had the same speech patterns. And she knew far more of her sisters than anyone else.

"Oh..... Well, that is something." She mumbled to herself.

Misaka shrugged; more interested in the place they were in. The city seemed so alive to her. If she closed her eyes, she could feel the wind blowing through the streets slowly lightly.

It was then that she noticed talk further along the way they were going. Voices calling loudly and much more than the few people that they had seen formerly. In fact, the further they went, the more people seemed to appear among the streets.

She finally saw the reason for the increase in walkers on the ways of the city. A great number of sales stands were standing in an open area. Salesmen were praising their wares and bargaining with others and she could generally see a multitude of traders and buyers all over the place. It was not as big as some of the shopping districts of Academy City, but the difference in how the people were showing their wares made everything look bigger than it was.

"Well, it is the first time that you see the west square. Welcome to one of the major markets of Imardin." She made a wishing motion with one of her hands and laughed shortly before continuing and winking Misaka further along the way only she knew.

The brunette meanwhile was distracted by the sheer liveliness of this place. It was chaotic and wild, but there was also a certain order in it. There had to be some kind of rules to make such a place work. As she breathed in the scents of spices and vegetables, flesh and fish, she could feel something just on the edge of her awareness.

But before she could concentrate on whatever she was sensing further, she was pulled along by Sonea.

"Come on, you got enough rest over the last weeks." She said playfully.

Soon, Sonea had found a man that had become dark skinned due to the sun. His eyes were sharp and muscles bulged beneath a leather shirt. He was also taking care of a stand that held various fishes.

"Hey Balak, the family wants buy a few fishes, let me see..." The girl looked through her clothing and found a small piece of paper. Then she started listing up a couple of names and numbers. Misaka wasn't sure, but she decided after a moment that she was talking about different types of fish.

"Okay girl, I will put them here for you to take. You do have the money to pay everything, right?" Sonea rolled her eyes and took out a couple coins that glinted in the sun yellow. The man smiled in a way that slightly worried Misaka and nodded.

Sonea then started to barter. It was impressive to observe as Misaka had never seen something like this. Where she came from, everything had a clear price that had to be paid. Here it seemed, one could try to talk the others into giving their wares up for a lower price commonly.

The dark haired girl smiled once they were done and there was a bit of a spring in her steps. Misaka's eyebrow moved upwards in question. Sonea smiled again when she looked at the brown haired girl.

"We get a tip from the Family depending on how much money we bring back. I got a good deal here."

The way back was without any special events, though Misaka once again felt like something was sitting just at the edge of her senses. It was there, but she couldn't quite grasp it. This was worth further investigation in the future.

Awesome.

Kinda wondering how well known Misaka will be just because how she talks.....XD

Does anyone have an idea of when this takes place? Is it before or after that big war I've heard so much about?

Sonea hasn't discovered her magic yet (as confirmed when -_- gained her card), but she is around the age when she does so. So I'd say It should be somewhere right before the series starts, a couple weeks or months at most.

Chapter 4: Turning Points

Over the next days, Misaka continued to experiment with the strange new senses she had gained and it was only four days later that she made a surprising breakthrough.

The brunette girl sat still as a stone statue, silently concentrating and trying to get a better feel for whatever she had felt since her awakening. A few days ago she had started to put some time before sleeping and other free hours aside and work on what she could sense so distantly. She also tried to reconnect with the network periodically, though that hadn't shown any promise yet.

The female did not truly know what to do in this situation. All she could try was to breathe in and out and to concentrate on that distant feeling.

Now she could sense it, just on the border of her awareness. A flow of something... something White.

Misaka took another breath, testing the border of what she was seeing with her new sense, a flowing stream of something that felt strangely familiar. She considered her options, before taking another breath and touching the stream with her new sense.

The streets of the city, filled with chattering people, some important, others common but all connected in a network of streets.

The wind blowing between the houses, coming from the river, sometimes carrying stenches and sometimes a bare hint of what the ocean may smell like.

It was a picture that filled her mind, like the land itself was speaking to her.

The girl took a metaphorical step back and felt something remaining, just a hint of whatever the stream contained flowing through her. Somehow she felt an almost instinctive urge to do something. With barely a thought, she touched the stream again and formed a connection, a bridge that let a part of the stream flow into her.

She could feel it, like a switch she had to push and then it poured into her. A smaller flow of White filled her very being.

Misaka opened her eyes to see her room again, still sitting on her bed and feeling slightly stiff. But at the same time there was a feeling of contentment, of clarity like she had never felt before.

"What is this? It is like I can feel all the streets of Imardin, the connections between all these living in the city, the bonds that hold everyone together." These thoughts were flying through her mind.

To be honest, it was a bit like being connected to the Network.

Then she noticed that she wasn't alone. A cat was also sitting on the bed, looking at her with its head tilted sideways in curiosity. The girl was still feeling the energy flowing through her as she regarded the feline creature. Its fur was long and dark, not black but closer to chocolate and its eyes were similarly dark with a yellow background.

These eyes looked at her with a sharpness that one wouldn't expect from a normal animal.

Almost like in a trance, Misaka stretched her hand out to pet the cat. She idly noted that she couldn't remember any cat ever voluntarily getting this close to her or any of her sisters.

Her fingers found the cat's ears and they caressed its head almost automatically. She could feel it again, the same sense of potential, of something that she couldn't explain with words. It was like seeing an incredibly detailed blueprint for just a moment, before the memory became something outside of her grasp. She was still aware of it and of the fact that she had felt like the cat could use the same energy she had touched earlier. No, like it could be used by the energy.

She grasped the power that had started to fill her, flowing through the connection to the stream she had discovered. It was overflowing, like it was eager to fulfil some kind of command that she was only just beginning to understand. Her free hand pointed left of the first cat and she let the power flow in that direction, giving it form and remembering the form of the cat. She formed the energy, orderly and clearly reproducing what she had sensed from the feline.

Her breath halted, light gathered in front of her, first taking a vague form and then filling in details. Finally the glow diminished and Misaka found an identical cat sitting next to the one she was still petting. Well, maybe that wasn't quite right. There were differences, small but perceptible to the observer. Ears were formed slightly different, eyes that were a bit bigger than the other one. What she had done had taken this cat as a basis, but it didn't create a perfect clone.

And she still felt the plan that had made this possible in the back of her mind, waiting together with the one she had gained before.

The sound of ceramic shattering interrupted any further thoughts or observations Misaka could have had

Her head turned to the origin of the noise and she saw a broken plate and food lying on the ground. There stood Sonea in the doorway, looking at her with her mouth wide open and eyes widened in shock.

"You... you made a cat from nowhere... you did magic."

Misaka blinked in confusion, not having expected to understand that particular word. Somehow the language which had formerly been broken was easier to understand now. It was still not perfect, but she somehow could almost sense what each word meant. The small amount of the White energy that remained flew through her at a slightly accelerated speed.

For a moment everything seemed to stand still. Misaka looked at her new friend and the older girl stood still as a statue in the doorway. A shiver seemed to go through her and her eyes moved away from Misaka to the side in direction of the door.

"Misaka should probably explain what is going on and what else she had kept to herself, suggests Misaka while tilting her head questioningly." Normally the clone of Misaka Mikoto would have trouble understanding the social cues of this situation, but right now she felt somehow more confident than she was used to.

The words seemed to shake the other girl out of her state of shock. Sonea shook her head for a moment before looking at the brunette with suspicion. She bit her lower lips, but then took a step forward and then moved closer before sitting on the single chair in the room moving it closer to Misaka's bed.

Her eyes asked for answers and so Misaka gave them as far as she could.

Of course Sonea already knew the abridged version of her tale, so she only had to fill in the parts that the younger girl had left out purposely. Most importantly, that was the fact that she was also an ability user, created for a certain reason. Explaining the Network and the Level 6 Shift Project would be harder though.

"You are saying you can use a special power?" Sonea asked before looking aside and muttering something to herself under her breath.

"Misaka was created for the purpose of combating the Number 1, so he could grow in ability. As a clone of the third strongest Esper in Academy City, I possess the ability to manipulate and produce electricity, explains Misaka shortly."

Sonea frowned. "Electricity?"

The younger girl answered the girl by pointing away with her finger and creating a few sparks of electric energy. "You would probably know it as lightning, says Misaka while nodding."

Both were silent for a few moments and Sonea looked at her fingers for a while in curiosity.

"But... the cat?"

At that question, the girl from Academy City nodded. "Since my appearance here, I have developed a strange sense which has led me to create a copy of the cat. I did not have this ability before that, or at least I wasn't aware of it, explains Misaka.

There was an awkward silence between the two, even now that things had been explained Sonea still looked hesitant. The two girls looked at each other and finally Sonea sighed.

"Okay... I don't really get everything, but I don't think you are lying and you are not a magician." At this Misaka blinked before noticing that she suddenly knew what this word meant, magician, one who uses magic. That was an impossible thing, but so was creating a cat from nothing but raw energy.

"The lightning is something I have heard of in stories, but no one has ever heard of a magician creating animals from nowhere. So I will keep this whole thing secret, just make sure that nobody notices it and bothers us, alright?" The girl with the dark hair smiled at Misaka and the clone tried to smile back. It was unused, though she thought she had managed it.

Misaka turned her head to the cat that was still sitting next to them. She wondered whether the rest of its body was also so similar to the original and the cat turned as if show her its appearance. Curious, Misaka tested for a moment and soon noticed that she could easily make the cat do whatever she wanted. The false animal seemed to instinctively know what she desired.

If she concentrated, she could actually feel a very fine connection to the feline.

"Misaka will try her best to keep everything secret, agrees Misaka."

Sonea rubbed her nose.

"I know a few places out in the Slums where we can experiment with whatever you can do and nobody will bother us." Misaka looked at her with surprise.

"Hey, you didn't think I would just leave this be without getting involved? This is looking like it could be interesting and well, we are friends you know." The pale girl smiled and then, after a moment of hesitation, grabbed Misaka's hand in a gesture of friendship.

OOC: Rewriting the older parts of the story while also trying to write a little bit whenever I can find it in myself. Only really story-important difference is that Misaka won't have her gun, which is going to have been stolen by the thugs in Ch. 1. Otherwise just trying to add detail and make things more sensible for me.
