A new day dawns. A cry of,
"WAKE THE HELL UP BRATS" rings through the building. You distinctly recognize the voice as being your new captain's... Goddamnit Jeralt! The sun isn't even up yet!

'Hm? Ah, time to wake up then.' Pushing myself out of the bed, I walk around my room, picking up and putting on my armor. Then, grabbing my sword, I open my door I head over to where I assume Jeralt was yelling from.
"Hey Jeralt! What's with the wake up call?! There something you wanted?"

I groaned as I rose to see the morning, only to be greeted by the moon yet again. Fucking Hell, that party really did take alot out of me, I didn't even drink that much! I can already tell this day is going to be tough.

Today was my first day as a mercenary under the legendary Blade-Breaker, a soldier of fortune that fought for gold. Not the most prestigious job but hey, it's certainly not the worst job a Isekai-ed guy could get.

"Come on guys" I muttered as I stretch my limbs, "don't want to make the Blade-Breaker mad, do we?"

I've always had an odd sleep schedule, but 5:00am is a bit early, even for me. Still, I get up, grumbling only a little since it's about an hour after the earliest I generally get up. I stumble slightly as I exit my room, ears ringing from the volume of Jeralt's shout. As I'm about to walk past him I stop and say "Morning Boss, anything specific on the agenda today?"

"I was planning on asking the group of you myself, to be perfectly honest. It doesn't sit right with me for brats like you to be wandering the world alone." Jeralt takes a shot of his drink. "However, let me tell you one thing. The Blade Breakers are disbanding after the 30th of the Lone Moon. I'm off to teach brats at the Officer's Academy, and my children will be attending the academy as well. You alright with that?"

"Works for me, sir," I answer. I have nowhere else to go from here...

I shrug, "about as good as someone who has been dropped into a fantasy world could be." I then grin cheekily, "in other words, fantastic! I fought a giant wolf with you and the others and now I'm at a feast, what else is better?"

"Hehe," I answer, smiling. I'm not sure, however, if he's being sincere, or sarcastic. It could go either way, for the novelty is nice, but there's also such thing as missing home. I do like this new body of mine, though, and its accompanying knowledge.

"Of course Ser Jeralt, I suspect that my compatriots and I will have to join the Officer's Academy in the near future as well"

I stand from my seat and turn to Jeralt

"Thank you for this conversation"

Reach for my hand~

Making my way back from the meeting with the other Bearers of the Crest of Flames, I happen to run across Annalise singing Edge of Dawn. Enraptured, my eyes sting a bit as I recall that I'd never see my family yet again, before forcing the feeling down for a while longer. I could cry into my pillow when I got to the room the Villagers were kind enough to let us rent. With a watery smile towards Annalise, I make my own way onto the platform she was using as a stage and begin singing.

(Song and dance number)

I finish dancing as I say the last words, ending in a pose with my hands folded in prayer. I'm drenched in sweat, and I suddenly realize it's bloody cold, and sneeze cutely, causing the bewildered crowd to break into cheers. Blushing something fierce, I slowly make my way towards Jeralt and Solomon, who are drinking around a campfire.

"Nice song kid. The non translated version of what Annalise sung?" Jeralt asks, handing me a mug of gin. Still breathing heavily, I grin,
"Yes, it's called Edge of Dawn... There is a more personal name to it, but one I'd rather not share."
"That's fine with me. Nice interpretive dance by the way. Looked like you were having fun." Solomon says, taking a shot.
"I was... Anyways! Is there a room I can crash in Jeralt? I'm tired, and I want to start early tomorrow!"
"Yeah. The Bladebreakers have an agreement with most local taverns. Just say you're with me, and ol Tom will let you kids use a set of rooms. Remember to be responsible, since they're doubles."
"Okay! Thank you Jeralt!" I reply, yawning and heading towards the inn. I was going to get some sleep, now that I had a full belly and my worries were gone...

(OOC: Lady of Hresvelg)

That was a nice song and dance. Emotional too, from what I see and hear. In the meantime, checking a nearby clock shows that I ought to go to sleep soon... good thing the tavern-keeper would be willing to accommodate us...

A gaze at the mirror in the bathroom shows that I actually look like Noire. Uh, not the daughter of Tharja, but rather, the Neptunia goddess in HDD. The twin-tailed white hair reminds me of Robin though, and it's one I'm in the mood for keeping. I look beautiful like this...

My eyes flutter as my body jolts towards a sitting position on the bed. Wha-? Why the shouting? Could I have five more minutes, please? The bed is sooo soft and comfy... A look outside the window shows that it's still dark outside. Early morning. Reminds me of when I have to wake up early for traveling, or for elementary and high school.

It takes a moment to shake off some of my lingering sleepiness. Making sure I'm decently dressed, I then walk towards where the shout came from. Turns out there are some others who have arrived before me, and asking our mentor, Jeralt, about what we would be doing today. "Good morning, sir," I greet him.

Ezekiel's eyes snap open, and he leaps out of bed, going from sleeping to standing in less than three seconds. Clothing donned in another ten. Out the door and into the hallway after three. Then down the stairs and facing Geralt in five. "I HAVE AWOKEN AND AM PREPARED TO FACE THE WORLD IN ALL ITS MAJESTY. PREFERABLY AFTERI HAVE DINED UPON A MEAL BOTH HEARTY AND SCRUMPTIOUS. I snap awake with practiced ease. Not without grumbling, but I do. I roll out of the bed, thanking the circumstances that I slept in my clothes for once in my life, putting on the boots and coming down the stairs. Rubbing my eyes to get rid of the remains of the sleep, I stand before Jeralt.

"Moooo..." I stiffle a yawn "... orning, sir, repo..."

As it turns out, yes, yes her body was still wired up to have a hot mess of a sleep schedule no matter the end of the scale.

Which came to mean that by the time Jeralt screamed for them to wake up, she was already downstairs enjoying the peace and quiet of such ungodly hours of the morning.

Of course, the two sets of yelling did shatter that into a million pieces, but her brain had already fully spooled up by then so there would be no impromptu immolation.

"Go get em girl, I'll be with you all in a while. I'm going to go talk to dad.
"Mhm" I mutter, making my way down the stairs to the ground floor and Tavern portion of the Inn. "Thank you for rounding my cohorts up Mr. Jeralt!" I chirp, plopping myself on a chair. Jeralt nods, and makes his way towards the exit, Solomon hot on his heels. Byleth follows more sedately, giving you all a wink as she passes.

One of the Major Differences is that the Officer's Academy is a four-year institution, so we have no idea how canon will take place at this point. Jeralt had twins. Sothis has all her memories. The list goes on. What I'm trying to say is... Be careful. Our foreknowledge is almost useless, so I think that sticking with the Bladebreakers until we make it to Garach Mach will be the best plan. Myself, Leeanna, and Mila probably sorta-kinda derailed canon already, since we have a telepathic link to Edelgard through Sothis and the Crest of Flames." I cough slightly, my cheeks tinged pink. In my slumber I dream

I dream of a field of flowers as vast as the ocean brimming with fragrant and magnificent scents that seems almost otherworldy in origin. The sensations would surely be forever imprinted in my mind until my dying breath. A gentle, beautiful oasis for me to reminisce in times of strife and hardship. But the crown jewel of it all, the crème de la crème, of this dream, Is that Ezekiel finally shut up

For in that world, there would be no Ezekiel with his horrendously loud screaming awakening all things that slumber within the village and likely beyond it as well.

A good night's sleep truly was what I needed to shake off the exhaustion from the fight earlier that night along with the athmosphere of the party. Now that it is gone however, the realization that the world I am in is mine no longer truly struck. Unlike most the matter of family did not bother me much, my relationship with them was..cold? Superficial? Something of that nature.

Friends, those are...difficult to say, I feel as though the bonds I have with them..isn't genuine, like they were never..deep enough. Hopefully that will change in my time here- ah, this world, I know not however long I will be here, until the war is over? Until my last breath? Can I truly fit in here?

Nevertheless, tardiness is never a virtue. And I dread to incur Ser Jeralt's wrath.

Four years in the academy instead of one? I dread to think of the things that could go wrong in that amount of time.

"A mental link with Edelgard you say? Do please tell of what you discussed with her"

To..Enbarr, the Imperial Capital. I can not even begin to imagine what it would be like, a realization struck, did Dorothea's support not describe of the way the..less fortunate children live their lives? Perhaps I could relieve their burden for at least a miniscule amount for however little time I could.

"Alesia? I believe you hold our funds no? May I request that a portion of it be reserved for aiding the less fortunate denizens of Enbarr?"

Crest of Flames? That sounds familiar. Powerful Divine Crest, but that's all I know. "Foreknowledge? What foreknowledge?" I ask. "I don't have any. Three Houses is new to me. Can you bring me up to speed, please? Things I should know?"

Now I embrace myself, worried about potentially stumbling into something I shouldn't, or meeting someone that I wouldn't know to actually be the enemy, among others. I need information, and I don't have much to go on for any plans I may make. Not knowing much about here reminds me of Robin herself, who woke up without knowledge of her surroundings too...

I've always woken... slowly, unless I absolutely had to. Pulled myself from sleep, read a book, pulled myself upright.

When things were dire, though- then I rush.

Jeralt's yell is all I need to switch modes. Coming upright from the straw bedding, I scramble from my sleep, snagging my smallcolthes and shrugging them on, belatedly remembering to pull on my new breastband. I snag my equipment in reverse order- shirt, hose, leather trousers, mail shirt, greatcoat, boots, and the leather curiass. Tugging my pouches into place and checking to make certain the essentials, odds, and ends inside are stowed properly, I snag my spear and hurry downstairs, emerging before Jeralt. I fall in beside the other inserts, some still wiping off the remnants of sleep, others chipper and ready.

"Mhm" I mutter, making my way down the stairs to the ground floor and Tavern portion of the Inn. "Thank you for rounding my cohorts up Mr. Jeralt!" I chirp, plopping myself on a chair. I blink. "Four years? That gives us more time, I suppose." I grimace. "But you're right that any plans we might have made are now screwed. Still, hopefully the people will still be similar..." There are people I want to help. Marianne, Dimitri, Cyril, Ashe, Bernadetta. People who really need help and support, more than wrongs to be righted. If I'm starting from nothing, then there's no way I'll have the power to help them. Not as I am, anyway.

As I muse, the rest of what he said sinks in. Enbarr was, if I recall correctly, the Imperial capital. It's also one of the strongholds of Those Slithering Bastards, and has some pretty strong class stratification. Hang on...

"Jeralt said we had a job opportunity in Enbarr, and you said you talked with Edelgard. Are the two related, at all?"

Byleth chips in, having keyed into the mental link as well.
'Over 1 Million Gold in total.' Edelgard says, her tone final
'Jeralt's gonna love that. Perfect last hurrah for our mercenary work!'
'The Bladebrakers are disbanding?'
'Rhea caught up to us.'
'Fair enough.'

I listen to Alesia explain that the rails of canon has been blown up and the train formed beautifully burning wreck. Well, it made sense. We were in actual world instead of game, made sense the school would be longer, Byleths less... Japanese protagonist-y and the world around us all around making more sense. Leaning on my spear, I sigh.

"Well, I've got no objection to joining them. In fact, I think it would be great if we could get Jeralt and the other mercenaries to train us up. Even if the situation changed, aren't the Basement Dwelling Edgelords still a problem that will need to be addressed? I would prefer to spend less time later on on catching up than planning on how to deal with them, to be honest." Straightening up, I address the other part of Mint Flavored Midget's speech. "I don't see a problem sharing a horse with others, but if you guys insist, I am willing to march."

'Wait, it's four years?' Closing my eyes, I run through my newer memories of the Officer's Academy, I come to the realization that I'm gonna have to go through a fantasy version of high school, yaayyyy.
Though, considering that they're gonna teach combat and magic... it'll probably be a fun time. Though certain people might be annoying to deal with. (Sylvain)

'The Bladebrakers are disbanding?'
'Rhea caught up to us.'
'Fair enough.'

I lose track of the banter Edelgard and Byleth trade at this point, refocusing on the group.
"Anyways, get ready for a long day on horseback. Talk with Jeralt about getting a Horse. He's willing to pay for it provided we cede half our pay for the next job. He called it an investment... Heh" I giggle at this point. "He's totally spoiling us..." I mutter, having asked the price of a good horse. It was slightly more than that of a fucking high end car in modern terms...

"Those who slither?" If this were an anime, one would see question marks above my head.

"Basement dwelling edgelords?" My confusion only grows with the lack of context.

(Sylvain)

Well, it might not be a bad idea to nab one as soon as I can... but I have no idea how to look after one... eh, I'll think more on it later.
"I'm willing to walk if the horses don't have enough room for all of us."

Among my newfound skills are the basics of equestrianism, and knowing it makes me less nervous about riding a horse. It'd be more convenient that way than walking, considering that I don't see cars around. The place looks medieval-ish fantasy. "I'm fine with sharing a horse," I add.

- 20 Actions to train Reason
- 35 Actions to train Swords
- 5 Actions to train Faith
- Take up that horse offer from Jeralt. Preference is for all-around capability, high efficiency, and gentle demeanor (in between Baroque and Draft types, breed to be chosen by GM)

"I can reserve a bit, but not a lot. 3,000 gold is roughly 300 USD in terms of finance. I can maybe give you 100 gold to spend on charity." I say, guiltily clutching the bag holding our meger amount of gold. "I'm sorry, but we need information more than the orphans need help."
Annalise

Ah, what a pity. I give Alesia an acknowleging nod

"I understand"

Moving on to the matter of transportation while I might not have many memories of riding in my past life I do hold them fondly even if those were naught but guided tourist attraction.

"I am fine with either, but I would like to ride a horse, an Andalusian Baroque horse, to be precise"

She finally spoke up at that comment, adding her own two cents, "If you want to help the poor, just go hunting on the regular to build a surplus of rations which to give to them. And I'm sure many people in the streets would appreciate some free firewood with which to feed whatever sidestreet pot fires they huddle around. There's also taking up odd jobs while we're stationed in a town to build up some cash to donate to charity all the while doing community service. Would also help in accruing some goodwill and contacts, which I'm sure Alesia would appreciate."

Order of action priorities:
  1. Raise Heavy Armour from E+ to D or D+
  2. Raise Reason from D+ to C
  3. Raise Faith from D to D+
  4. If there's leftover actions after all that, dump into Heavy Armour
Also, take up Jeralt on the horse offer. Draft Horse, Ardennais breed.

I hope everyone takes up Jeralt's offer

"Byleth! Can you come in and explain to my friends why they should take Captain Jeralt up on his offer?" I holler, moving to exit the tavern. The elder Eisner twin walks in, a pair of glasses adorning her face.
"Right Kiddoes, Ladies, and Gentlemen. I'm going to present why horses are the best things ever..."
(OOC: I'm making a bullet point list...)
  • They make travel faster.
    • More Travel means a larger job market
    • You can ride for 15 miles, and still fight
  • They can carry your stuff
    • You'll want this, stuff is important
  • They teach you responsibility
  • Dad's giving you a good deal, just take it kiddies...
  • CALVARY~
You may choose Draft or Baroque
Then look up a breed. I'm too lazy to give a list.

"Thank you for your patronage!" The shopkeeper cheers, likely having sold her first book in months. I fondly caress the book I had bought, costing me roughly 150 gold. Unexpectedly cheep, now that I thought about it. Perhaps she had been trying to get rid of it? Anyways, I now had one of the copies Professor Hannaman's books on Crestology and its relationship to Reason and Faith magic. I had also bought a book on Fodland's History, but Byleth had provided the gold for that. I gotta get out of her debt. I muse, making my way towards the entrance of Remire village.
"Good morning Captain! Byleth will have a list of the requested type and breed soon!"
"Thank you, Alexandra. It makes my job easier. Which Type and Breed did you want again?"
"Baroque, Frisian please."
"Good eye, took my recommendation eh?" Jeralt says, heat rushing to my face as I pout at the man.

Planned Actions:
30 Actions on Research (Fodland's History, Crestology split 80/20)
30 Actions on Training (Sword, Reason: Split half and half)

"Those who slither?" If this were an anime, one would see question marks above my head.
As our meeting wound down, I pull Robena aside. Despite her obvious relation to Rowena, the way she's tilted her head reminds me far more of Neptune. Well, she did say she was UbeOne... that's to be expected.

"Alright, do you want t eh long explination or not?" As she nodded her head, I sighed, motioning her to follow as we walked outside. Finding a clearing, I took a seat.

"Alright. The terms 'those who slither in the dark' and 'Basement Dwelling Edgelords' both reference one of the five major factions in Fodlan, whose proper name is the Argathians. To understand them, you need to know about the history of Fodlan, including that of the Goddess, Sothis."

"When Sothis... founded? Made? Established? Eh, the nomenclature's unimportant. When she claimed Fodlan, there were scattered enclaves of humans already living here. One of these small civilizations were the original Argathians, who were skilled in the arts of Reason magic and technology. Sothis, being the goddess of Time, was able to glimpse into the future, and saw how technology might develop, and shared the secrets of advanced tech with the Argathians. Thus, they became the most developed nation on Fodlan. Eventually, Sothis stopped helping them, and focused her efforts on birthing her 'children;' the Nabateans, who were/are like divinely empowered Manakete. And for a time, there was peace between the two powers."

"Then something changed. I don't know why the Argathians became arrogant, or why they thought that Sothis and her children had to die, but they built an arsenal of 'javelins of light'; powerful missiles, each capable of leveling a city or fortress in a single shot. When they thought the time was right, they launched an all-out attack on Sothis' home atop the mountains int he center of Fodlan, spreading their weapons to wipe clean the lands around it so they could control the whole continent. They failed, for Sothis was able to protect her home, creating a web of spells to ward her citadel. In retaliation for the attack, the Nabateans went to war, destroying the citadels of the Argathians and scattering their people. Most of those who survived fled underground, where they dwell to this day."

"However, their victory did nothing to restore the lands ruined by the Argathians' attack, and so Sothis bent her powers to heal the land and restore what had been destroyed. Such an act exhausted her, and she slept, turning her home into a tomb. Her children migrated south, settling the land now known as the Red Canyon. The surviving Argathians now hungered for revenge, and wanted a place in the sun."

"The other human tribes of Fodlan fell to anarchy in the absence of the Goddess, and the Nabateans isolated themselves as they waited for their mother to awaken. The Argathians, however, saw opportunity among the chaos. They sought out the strongest of the bandit warlords on Fodlan, and granted him the location of the Tomb of the Goddess- and a tool he could use to strike her down. His name was Nemesis, and he stole into the Tomb of the Goddess, and murdered Sothis, tearing out her spine and heart and drinking her blood. The Argathians fashioned her spine and heart into a sword, and refined the power he stole from her blood into the Crest of Flames. With that power, he took eleven followers and descended into the Red Canyon, slaying each Nabatean he encountered, and having his followers claim bones and blood for themselves. This created the first eleven Crests, and the array of Heroes' Relics currently used in Fodlan. I think the Argathins wanted the heroes to fight among each other and destroy themselves, allowing them to wipe out the remnants and claim the land for themselves; Nemesis had become too powerful for them to properly control."

"However, despite Nemesis' rampage, five Nabateans survived the ambush and purge. One, Serios, despairing and enraged by the slaughter, bided her time and gathered allies among both the children of the bandit lords and those resisting their dominon. She, and her surviving kin, each gave their own blood to forge five additional bloodlines, including a man named Hresvelg, chosen by Serios herself. Endowed with weapons of Divine Nabatean make, and organized by the greatest tactical minds in Fodlan, the forces by Serios overwhelmed and destroyed Nemesis' forces. Serios herself struck down Nemesis, and reclaimed the Sword of the Creator from his grasp."

"to protect the remaining Nabateans and secure Fodlan from outside influence, Serious named Hresvelg the human ruler of the continent, creating the Adrestian empire. To preserve the Holy Tomb, now also the graves of many of her kin, Serios founded a church in her name, and built the grand monastery of Garreg Mach atop the Tomb. The Church altered history, declaring the Crests as Divine endowments from the Goddess, and the various Hero and Saint relics as Goddess-given. Each of the Crested bllodlines, save one whose initial wielder went mad, was given lands and dominions within the Empire, while all was governed by the Church of Serios."

"Those that Slither still existed, though, and have subtly manipulated events to try to bring about their revenge on Serios and wipe out the remaining Nabateans. They're small, but they still retain a lot of advanced technology Serios' edicts repressed, and have unparalleled grasp on Dark Magic and fleshcrafting."

I sigh. "Of course, all of this is secret, though it might all be about to come out in a big way. There's more, of course, but that's the broad strokes so far as I can remember. Any questions?"

---
Kel's Plan:
5 Actions: Craft wolf teeth into a set of knives (Kitchen/hunting knives)
30 Actions: Lance training (Strength, D -> C+ if possible)
15 Actions: Faith Training (Not Strength, D+ -> C+ if possible)
10 Actions: Talk with the Mercenaries, gain a better perspective on Modern Fodlan (Questions to follow, in order of priority)
  • If current events match with game events (Tragedy of Duscur, Edelgard's sibilings, state of the Alliance, Church's moves, etc.)
  • State of Technology (Are there printing presses? Sewers? Clockwork? Refined distilling? Glassworks?)
  • Church of Serios control (Taboo subjects, what's considered Heresy, grip on Empire)
  • Mercenary status in Fodlan (Numbers/prevalence of other Mercenary companies, legal status)
  • Investment opportunities (Awlays important)
Yes, and I want a horse. Draft horse, please.

I sigh. "Of course, all of this is secret, though it might all be about to come out in a big way. There's more, of course, but that's the broad strokes so far as I can remember. Any questions?"

I listen with rapt attention as Kel weaves a tale of generosity, unbridled greed, a cycle of revenge and violence, a history revised, and a conspiracy rooted in ancient pretext.

"Goodness..." I could only say afterwards. Sothis's story was a sad one, her generosity resulting to such a chain of events. A victim of murder, even. While I'd say the Argathians were first at fault, what with them being the aggressors and striking first, it also ended up in a back and forth of bloodshed. Wait a minute, if Sothis was murdered, how come... "But then, Alex and co are able to talk with Sothis via the Crest of Flames. She's still alive?" The next time I see Alex, I could probably ask more about Sothis, and send my best wishes to her.

It also means that my Crest came from such a part of history, maybe unless it's one of the forgotten ones, but I wouldn't know. "Since I have a Crest, does that mean I'm somehow related to one of the bloodlines?" Not sure how to explain that one if it's noticed and questioned. 'I only found out recently'?

The edicts banning advanced tech sound worrying though. They stifle progress, keep things in stasis. It doesn't help that I come from a more modern world than this. "What technology in particular were banned?"

And there are a few more things that are not mentioned. "Alex mentioned an Officer's Academy. What's that about?" Wait, she mentioned getting to Garreg Mach... right where that monastery and Sothis's tomb is. Goodness. "And where does the 'Three Houses' part come in?"

"But then, Alex and co are able to talk with Sothis via the Crest of Flames. She's still alive?"
I grimace. "Serios... was isolated, for a long time. She's become a little unstable. The other surviving Nabateans went into seclusion or were in healing slumber or much of the last thousand years, and Serios was desperate to get her family back. Thought the other Nabateans were mortal, Sothis was a Goddess. Serios reasoned that by creating a homunculi and implanting it with Sothis' crest, she could reincarnate her mother, bring her back, and Sothis could fix everything. It didn't work, but one of the homunculi survived and created her own identity. That woman was Byleth and Solomon's mother. Byleth was stillborn at birth, and Rhea transplanted the crest into her to keep her alive- and for the first time, breathed a bit of life back into Sothis. She's weak, and nought more than a spirit now, bound to Byleth- not alive, but present. Whether she could return in full or not is unknown, though if the story goes as it once did, Sothis might sacrifice what's left of herself to empower Byleth as a new Goddess. Hopefully, it won't come to that, and we can prevent Serios from latching onto Byleth and treating her like her mom."

"Since I have a Crest, does that mean I'm somehow related to one of the bloodlines?"
"Maybe. Depends on which crest you have; if it's a Hero's crest, you're likely a bastard descendant of one of the bandit kings i mentioned, though if you bear a Saint's crest it's possible you were gifted it by one of the surviving Nabateans... or had it artificially implanted." I glance at her white hair. "The Argathians have experimented on bestowing crests via blood transfusion. It rarely ends well, and even the survivors are marked with shortened lifespans, white hair, and sickly constitutions. Though those are side effects of having multiple crests implanted, and you only have the one. You're probably fine." I shake my head. "Regardless, having a crest will make everyone think you're part of the bloodline in question. Socially, you might be desirable... or hunted, depending on the crest."

"What technology in particular were banned?"
"I don't know for certain. The Argathins had ICBMs, advanced surgical technology, cloning tech, and some sort of AI and robotics tech, as well as a very advanced grasp of magic. None of it came back after a thousand years, despite Serios knowing about all of it. I'm guessing the church of Serios bans any 'disruptive' technologies in order to keep someone like the Argathians rising again, and definitely bans all weapons development, but it might just be that magic has stifled the spirit of advancement. It's something I want to check up on."

"Alex mentioned an Officer's Academy. What's that about?" Wait, she mentioned getting to Garreg Mach... right where that monastery and Sothis's tomb is. Goodness. "And where does the 'Three Houses' part come in?"
"We'll need to go into a little more history for that. About four hundred years ago, the northern territories of what were the Ardestian empire rose up in rebellion, which was incidentally not opposed by the Church. Loog Blaidydd, descendant of one of the ten 'Heroes' managed to defeat the Empire and win independence for the norther territories. The Church mediated between the two powers, giving legitimacy to the new nation. In thanks, and due to the region's strong loyalty to the memories of the Heroes and Saints, Loog declared the new nation the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, and swore itself to the Church as its defenders. Their actions weakened the Empire significantly, and fifty years later, the Eastern territories of the Empire followed suit, splitting off from first the Empire then rejecting the rule of the Kingdom, forming a confederation government known as the Leicester Alliance. The Empire still controls the West and South of Fodlan, the Kingdom controls the North, and the Alliance controls the East. The Church controls the mountain ranges and lands in the middle of the Continent, though they have significant influence in all three nations."

"In order to keep the peace, and to influence the minds of rising nobility, the Church has mediated between the three powers since their rise. In the last two hundred years, Almyra, a nation outside the Church's influence, has conducted raids and attacks upon Fodlan. To preserve Foldan's isolation, the Church opened an Officer's Academy in their monastery at Garreg Mach. Students are taught combat skills, tactics, magic, and various other subjects to serve as the backbone of Fodlan's protectors. In theory, it also allows members of the ruling families and rich commoners of each nation to interact with each other, build bonds between the nations, and keep the peace. In practice, students from each reason are separated by house, and the level of competition between the houses can divide the students as much as unite them."

I pause. "In the game, and during our stay there, all three of the heirs of nations will be attending the Academy. Edelgard, heir to the Ardestian Empire, will lead the Black Eagle house. Dimitri, prince of the Holy Kingdom, will lead the Blue Lions. And Claude von Riegan, heir apparent of the leading family of the Alliance, will lead the Golden Deer. In game, Byleth chose one house, then led them in the years to come. Here? I have no clue how things will unfold."

"Oh dear..." is my reaction. "Serios-ly? Projecting Sothis onto Byleth sounds like a recipe for grief. I mean, the latter is her own person."

It also sounds kinda Freudian, because mommy-related issues.

"Maybe. Depends on which crest you have; if it's a Hero's crest, you're likely a bastard descendant of one of the bandit kings i mentioned, though if you bear a Saint's crest it's possible you were gifted it by one of the surviving Nabateans... or had it artificially implanted." "Uh, mine looks like a stylized flower bud. It made me go stronger, faster, more precise, more magically powerful." I know it's not Flames, or I would have been informed of these things by Sothis or one of the other bearers. It also doesn't match the design of my Crest.

Hopefully I won't have social issues...

"I don't know for certain. The Argathins had ICBMs, advanced surgical technology, cloning tech, and some sort of AI and robotics tech, as well as a very advanced grasp of magic. "Military tech is understandable, but quality of life and medical tech too?" I remark. That second part doesn't agree with me. "But it's the users that are the problem, not the tech."

"We'll need to go into a little more history for that. About four hundred years ago, the northern territories of what were the Ardestian empire rose up in rebellion, which was incidentally not opposed by the Church. A story of division, of diplomatic intentions behind the school, and of the microcosm of the issue... "Then why did they implement the houses, if it's just going to be an 'us versus them'? Reminds me of Hogwarts."

Actually, it might as well be Hogwarts, but at university-level and military-oriented. Or maybe Beacon, but with houses, and as if it was for all four kingdoms instead of just one. And I'll be witness to it all...

I sigh. That was a terrible pun. "Serios seems to value stability and the social order more than doing good... though she does try to do good. Her policies on isolationism and technology are part and parcel with that. Honestly, she is capable and well-known for her kindness. It's just that she really wants to have her family back. And yes, it is a bit Freudian. I don't think Serios, who goes by Rhea these days, is necessarily a bad person, but she's not as good at understanding people or planning long-term than she pretends to be. Honestly, the Hogwarts comparison is rather apt- Rhea is very much like an immortal, less humble Dumbledore. Unlike Dumbledore, however, there's no one willing to challenge Rhea to her face, and it shows. The whole houses thing is likely a result of her bowing to seemingly harmless outside pressure, and not considering the full consequences."

"As for your crest? No clue. It doesn't sound like a crest of Glaucester or Gautier by the description, the Blaiddyd, Charon, and Flaudarius crests simply increase strength, and the crest of Cethelann empowers healing. Beyond that, I've got nothing, though I know you don't possess the crest of Maurice." I grimace. "Be careful. Crest-bearing individuals are prized- as warriors, nobility, and breeding stock. If you're not careful, you might get 'adopted' into a noble house trying to claim your bloodline for their family- whether you like it or not. I avoid that- the Crest of Maurice is considered cursed, since Maurice went mad and turned into a Demonic Beast." I could do without the bloodlust, but it was manageable so long as I didn't go out picking too many fights.

A backstory learned 3

No clue. It doesn't sound like a crest of Serios, Glaucester, or Gautier by the description, the Blaiddyd, Charon, and Flaudarius crests increase strength, and the crest of Cethelann empowers healing. Beyond that, I've got nothing, though I know you don't possess the crest of Maurice." I grimace. "Be careful. Crest-bearing individuals are prized- as warriors, nobility, and breeding stock. A Dumbledore-ish woman, political games behind crests, and the 'curse' of Maurice... I'll try to be discreet on the second one. Not mentioning my crest and being evasive and vague if asked. And question why they're asking about it, too. I'm not interested in being a pawn.

"Hopefully Alex and the others can talk sense into her," I reply. "I'll be careful, and you'll be okay, right? You're you, not your crest."

I gain an understanding of Fodland's Official History and am able to prevent myself from contradicting it. I also get a very basic understanding of Crestology.
Kel's Plan:
5 Actions: Craft wolf teeth into a set of knives (Kitchen/hunting knives)
30 Actions: Lance training (Strength, D -> C+ if possible)

You successfully make your set of Knives
(Edits made)
Current Events match the game events
While the Printing Press exists, it is not in widespread use yet (new invention)
Sewers exist, clockwork is in its infancy, Glassworks exists (I'm assuming Blown Glass), (I am unsure what you mean by refined distilling)
Taboo Subjects: Identity of the Bishops other than Rhea, Raising your sword against the Church
Mercenary Status: Wary until proven otherwise, 2~4 Mercenary bands at any point in time. The Bladebreakers are the most respected group
Investment Opportunities: Printing Press (We don't have money for it as of now, but you'll get an opportunity after Enbarr)

Kamen: (Crafting Cloaks)
You craft your group a set of 9 Cloaks. The King of Fangs Pelt is reduced to Half Size. You have 9 Cloaks/Capes in your inventory.

Arriving in Enbarr
22nd of the Pegasus Moon, Imperial Year 1179
Early Morning (roughly 8am)

Your group Trots into the Capital of the Empire. Immediately you make your way towards the Imperial Palace, Edelgard having told you that she expected you there. A Familiar figure meets you on the steps of the Imperial Palace, directing stable boys and girls to tend to your horses.
"Hello Bladebreakers. My Lady told me to expect you. Unfortunately, she is in a meeting with the Regent at the moment, and cannot attend to you like she wishes to. However, I do have instructions for you." Hubart procurs a sealed scroll from his coat, handing it to Jeralt. "If you could open that in privacy, it would be much appreciated. My Lady also bids the ones called Alesia, Nagea (You've been named offscrean), and Leeanna well. Shame she won't tell me why she knows you by name..." He trails off, before pulling a clock from his pocket. "Well, I must be off. The buffoons in the government shall require my assistance, as always..."
(React to this, but there is more)

Jeralt and Co. make their way towards a nearby bathhouse (Split by gender for our sake).
"Right, we have three hours to relax in here." He glares at everyone, "And you will relax. If I catch so much of a hint of someone sneaking off to train, you're off the job. You can't enjoy life without enjoying the small things, and whenever I'm in Enbarr, I take a bath. Chop chop, get too it!"

(Bath Scene, Tag people if you want a response)
(You have to make a post, but don't have to interact)
(Keep it nonsexual, please. I don't want a modhammer)
