Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

[X] Cut off and burn the arm

Tentatively…

I would like to start things with the goblins peacefully. No misunderstandings here.

Sorry, Mina, there's weird shit going on and breaking through that much stone seems like a great way to attract unwanted attention.

[X] Cut off and burn the arm

At least this is consistent. If we didn't stick around far behind, now there is more danger.

[X] Cut off and burn the arm

Best not to linger. Man, surface is looking more and more appealing every update with all the strange shit happening.

The surface will have its own problems for us to deal with, primarily the group itself. At least in the Darklands we're not too much out of place among the various odd inhabitants.

The Season of Still Stone

Hacking off and burning the arm may not be the most thorough job you could do, but it is the quickest and least likely to draw every beast in hearing. So that you do and a hundred heartbeats you are off again down the long passage, voices low and eyes cast hither and yon for threats. The straight walls of ancient make, which has seemed so comforting before now, loomed large, the scars upon them carefully studied. Or better perhaps to say that they were all studied intently in the speed of your advance. Of common accord you decide not to sleep but press on to the end.

Thankfully the end looms ahead of you before exhaustion takes its full toll on the four, or rather the three, of you. Cob had found that he could sleep atop Warty, another goblin skill unmatched by other peoples. Personally you find it hard to keep down the contents of your stomach up there, but that is of little matter now. You had reached the mine... and another conundrum. While the cavern beyond is certainly large enough for Warty, the narrow pass into it and then the pit with the bucket will certainly not fit your new mount so now the decision must be made. Which is who is to stay with him while the remainder explore the mine and the strange chamber at the top of the stairs.

Gorok has done the most work training the slurk, but Cob had spent the longest in his company and it shows, Warty's growls towards the two of them at mealtime are rarer and softer. Why, he might even allow them to take some of the delicious meat after he's done, he seems to say.

Or you could try to find another way in. Now knowing roughly where you are heading there are other branching tunnels you could take to reach either the mine or the 'star chamber', though Gorok, who is must skilled in such delvings, warns that you are as likely to find trouble as a way forward and you might well find both at once.

That last warning does little to dissuade Cob, who is more than fine with trouble as long as he is not parted from his mount, while Mina is more on Gorok's side, 'better the devil you know', she calls it.

"Who in their right mind would want to meet a devil?" you ask idly even as you ponder how to move forward.

"A Cheliaxian, though admittedly that is a low bar for sanity." She sighs. "I don't suppose he could squeeze in after us? He's got the... er... slime for it."

"Maybe, but it would be dangerous both ways," Gorok says simply. "If he gets stuck, he dies."

What path forward do you counsel for?

[] Find another tunnel large enough for Warty

[] One or more of you stays behind with Warty while the others explore
-[] Write in (Must include either Gorok or Cob)

[] Try to squeeze Warty through (DC 15 Handle Animal Check to get Warty into the tunnel)

[] Write in

OOC: This should be the last short update, I had forgotten about the passage until I checked my notes on it.

The dangers of having a Large-sized mount in a subterranean setting. Oh well, not exactly an unexpected issue. I really don't want to split the party and the risk of getting Warty stuck is just too high, IMO, so I'm leaning toward finding an alternative route.

Hopefully whatever trouble we run into won't be more than we can handle.

[X] Find another tunnel large enough for Warty

He has a dig speed and it may well help on an alternative route, but that does not help with widening the known one since the narrow tunnel you guys used before is through solid stone
Slurks don't have the Burrow ability, unfortunately, and even most creatures that do can't use it to move through stone.
Fair enough.

Best not to split party if we can avoid it, especially in Underdark. We are better off finding trouble together if we come across it.
We also have picks to help if we need to
Sold those I think, and would not be fast.

We kept two picks just in case. We won't widen a tunnel, but we can remove some rocks so that Warty can go through

Anyone else find it cute just how much Cob is bonding with Warty? Maybe we should add Handle Animal 1 skill to his next level just for it to be fitting. :p
