Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

Thanking about it my dubious grasp of geometry and imperial matrics may have lead me astray. You do not need 5 ft to stand in an escape capsule. Halving that in both dimensions gives 180 square ft. That would give 18377 lbs of Adamantine and 3.675.400 gp total. That would make your total haul 1.225.133 which is still a lot but a lot more reasonable.

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop now. Something is going to happen to separate us from our newfound wealth. 😳

I wonder if we can purchase Mind Blank items in Absalom? If there is any place on the continent where they would already be available for sale without lengthy commission times or waiting lists, that would be the place.
I would prefer not to have Mindblank at our level.

Maybe a stripped-down divination-only Mindblank, if an Archmage in Absalom has developed such a thing, but invalidating the entire school of Enchantment for the future of our adventure seems unnecessarily limiting.

"So these smiths, how much are they making out of the deal.?" Mina starts to act, though from the moment of hesitation you would guess the question is really from Sirim.

"Not counting labor and materials costs, the which are guild secrets half as much as we are.
So what's the split?

1/3 to Gorok's Ghosts, 1/3 to Leontas, 1/3 to Urgor, of which he paid smiths something like 1/6? Or do the smiths take their cut before the split?

The math model is missing the thickness of adamantium walls. I think it's something like 4 inches, to get the numbers you got?

I wouldn't mind either retconning the prior text, or having to spend most of it here for one reason or the other. Sylestrix' tower will not repair itself, and neither will Jernashall. I was probing earlier about creating a base to operate out of.

Five inches, though I changed that to spit out a saner 1.2 million gp, still more money than a 20th level character should be worth, but not so much as to break the game.

I'd much prefer if we had only a part of the money liquid, and instead invested the rest into something.

Like building up a home for Goroks tribe, or securing a property here or even building a Dragon-Fortress/Wizard-Tower together with our friendly Moon Dragon.

Freely buying usable magical gear for this sum is a bit of a zero-sum-game, since the encounters will still be mostly fair relative to our new total strength, but investing it in something that will matter narratively in future arcs is a nice point to return to.

Its only reasonable for us to have a certain amount of magical gear on us at any given time anyway. Basic and middling attribute boosters, some wands and stuff, decently enchanted weapons and armor, etc., but if we start carrying around +5 weapons, multiple +6 attribute boosters, etc., we become too big of a target, IMO.

Investing much of our wealth, or just keeping it in the Bank of Abadar for now, makes a lot more sense than trying to spend it all on magical gear.

Im happy with us getting 1.2 million gold as our cut. That is still an amazing windfall. Once we can properly spend some of it, I'll feel much more comfortable going back into the Dark lands, exploring Azlanti ruins, etc.

As for the vote...

Adamantine is great stuff. On top of being very strong, it also bypasses object Hardness like a lightsaber. Literally like a lightsaber using the d20 Star Wars rules. That includes the Hardness from effects like Walls of Force. When Cob can't open a lock, or a path is barred to us, we can just whip out the adamantine weapons and carve our way through.

Medium armor will also give Gorok Damage Reduction 2/-. That's not a huge amount, but it's consistent and adamantine DR can't really be bypassed.

We're going to want to get some of this stuff enchanted, but we can do that back in Andoran. It would keep us in Cassomir way too long to commission an enchanter to do the work.

Kori can technically wear medium armor, too, but it doesn't fit his style and his Cloak of Darkness already gives him an AC as good as any medium armor, and that will keep improving as he levels.

[X] Yes
-[X] Adamantine Daggers: x6 (2 for Cob, 1 for everyone else, including Sirim once he has hands) - Cost: 18,000 gold
-[X] Elven Curve Blade: x1 for Gorok - Cost: 3,000 gold
-[X] Tusk Caps: x2 for Warty - Cost: 6,000 gold
-[X] Breastplate: x1 for Gorok - Cost: 10,000 gold
-[X] Fullplate Barding: x1 for Warty - Cost: 30,000 good

Does anyone have experience with absurdly wealthy characters? How do you have a fun adventure if you could just hire a level 15 party to do it for you?
Mm I do. The simple solution is to invest it into things that cost millions of gold.

Getting Goroks tribe established properly will chew through that gold like a wood chipper.

We promised to help the dwarves with their expedition as well.

And if we are going to be exploring the Azlanti ruins. Chartering or even purchasing our own ship is basically a must.

Took the advice, plugged all the numbers in again no honeycomb, that felt too much like cheating on my part. You now have 4.4 million gp.

Enjoy and watch out for asps. :V
Unfortunately, that still isn't correct. That would be a capsule of 14x5x5. You want 14 by 2.5 by 2.5, which means you have to enter 7, 1.25 and 1.25 into the calculator.

Here's what I get:

Two Capsules form an Ellipsoid of the Dimensions 14ft by 2.5ft by 2.5ft
Sheet Thickness: 5 inches
Number of Capsules: 6, so 3 Ellipsoids

Sheet Area per Ellispoid: 87 Square Feet
Adamantine Volume per Ellipsoid: 87x5/12 = 36.25 cubic feet = 36.25x12x12x12 cubic inches = 62640 cubic inches
Density of Adamantine: Steel/2 = 0.141 lb/cubic inch
Mass per Ellipsoid: 8832 lb
Value of Adamantine: 200 gp/lb
Value per Ellipsoid: 1766448 gp

Value of all 6 Capsules (3 Ellipsoids): 5299344 gp
Gorok's Ghosts Cut: 1/3: 1766448 gp

Idea on how to get rid of our wealth: When we visit the lord governor, he suggests heavily that we should invest part of our money locally. Or it might turn out that, just yesterday, a law was passed that would tax us with 80%.

With thanks for the all the math I think this checks out. You guys have about 1.7 million gp which is about 2 level 20 WBLs, still a lot, but not 'you can buy an army'.

No, that is how you get a dead governor... and he knows that.

Also OOC you spent a lot of time and effort avoiding the 10% Andoran tax, I am not going to hit you guys with an 80%

We could retire.

I mean, the quest would be basically over, but in-story, what is the reason not to build a nice mansion next to Gorok's tribes new location and settle for good?

Sirim alone has both the ambition to go on without external reasons and the enemies to force him onwards.

Kori, Mira, Gorok and Cob could probably just settle.
Especially Gorok, since with that kind of backing he could actually pay scholars to help his tribe achieve all the niceties of modern civilization, from forging steel to indoor plumbing.

I mean you could always have done that by selling your equipment. It's not really a desire for wealth driving this little band, more knowledge and a understanding of their place in the world.
  1. Gorok wants to know how his people living like this
  2. Kori wants to know more about the High Realm and maybe meet people from there
  3. Mina wants to know about her heritage
  4. Sirim wants to understand and overcome divinity
  5. Cob... Cob just wants to shank things with his friends, he would probably be fine retiring at first, but then he'd cause trouble.

Three and a half thousand thousand Taldan Golden Lions, forty nine million gold coins.
There's a bit left from all the previous calculation drafts.

Also, do smiths take their cut before the gold is split three ways, or after? It makes sense for them to do it before us, as we have to process the ingots to make any use of them.

Well, I don't think there is enough money in the treasury to pay this in one go. One would be a fool to just let that wealth flow out of the country.

And this is not a tax, but an investment offer. We would be the owners of wharever enterprise this ends up being, and money will stay with the Lord Governor; we'd get real estate or services or a title instead.

We might need someone's patronage now that we made enemies of asps.

(There is a royal visiting the town soon, for some reason or the other. If there is a black hole where any amount of wealth could be sunk, it's royalty  )

Should we uh... start making a shopping list?
At the very least, I'm confident the governor/local bank will be happy to issue promissory notes on the back of the expected value of the adamantine.

----
A few wands of cure light wounds.
A regenerate scroll for when we next swing up by Sylestrix, and if she doesn't need it, then it'll be handy.
Many different alchemical teas.
A magical item that can let Pepper move light objects in a short range with high precision (i.e. can write and turn handles via some manner of telekinesis).
A wand(?) of Ill Omen, or something else that Pepper can use, as Ill Omen is useful in a fight. And a different item that is useful for him to activate each turn, but that won't break invisibility.
Something that can let someone see through Deeper Darkness.
Raise Dead scrolls and diamonds.

Items of Protection against Evil, because they're always active unlike spells.

Yeah, that was the idea.

Hmm... you might get an offer of that kind though without that much pressure, just pointing out that it would get you some goodwill in the eye of the Empire and her agents going forward.

This is a major city of one of the wealthiest nations on the continent, it is a large buy, but they can afford it.

While an adamantine elven curved blade has a lot going for it in terms of bypassing DR, I'd feel sad if we never got to make use of the Wasp's Kiss poison ability.

Does there exist some sort of specialised enchanting service that can transfer the Wasp's Kiss' enchantment to an adamantine version?
