Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

We still have that visit to the Pathfinders' Lodge scheduled. I am wondering why Gavhaul had the need for a vampire diabolist. Perhaps there is something left in the house pertaining to those plans?

Gavhaul was meeting with her, at least in part, because she appears to have been the local rep for the Apsis Consortium. It's probably standard procedure to check in with the local office when passing through on business.

He also seemed interested in picking up on gossip and news, though, so that might have been the real reason for his visit.

Gavhaul told Kori and company when he first brought her up that she was the who would have organized the transport to get the Adamant over the border into Taldor... emphasis on would. :V

She also fancies herself Azlanti by blood, I know, I know, rather dubious.
So was that part true as well? We dismissed it at first...

Do we need to pretend like we had nothing to do with it? A daring raid by Eagle Knights to rescue the maiden leaves the local diabolist dead, how unfortunate. They were already staking out the house when we got there.

That is up to you guys, do you want to claim credit or not? Because it would be impossible to claim credit without it also getting to him.

That depends. For one, Eduamort is a politician, and he is good at what he does. Can he put out a word 'for the services rendered' without specifying what those services were, or outright making them up?
For two, we don't need to claim credit while Gavhaul is here. We can report to Eduamort and get a favor from him at a later date.

Ideally, we'd want him to cover up our involvement with this raid.

I would be fine with not claiming credit, so long as Eduarmot can quietly pull the strings necessary to get Gorok's tribe permission to immigrate. That should be possible, right?

Hmm, just had a thought. With Breolia out of the picture now and Gavhaul still having a need to transport any recovered adamantine, this would be a good opportunity for the Pathfinders to insert themselves into the expedition if we pass the info on to the leader of the local Lodge.

Not sure exactly how they would go about doing that, though. Maybe disguised cargo haulers or fake smugglers? We might even be able to entirely hide our double-dealing from Gavhaul and the Consortium if the expedition goes smoothly, only for the adamantine to never reach it's intended destination.

As far as the land for Gorok Kori is pretty sure he could, I mean if nothing else you are planning to give him news of his sister, but if you want more recognition than that (and let's be clear 'sunwalking undead diabolist' is the stuff of Almas' nightmares so you would get more) you'd have to make it public.

if you want more recognition
Recognition from whom?

I am fine with staying out of the public eye. We aren't public people, and when we need approval we can always grease the wheels of a bureaucratic machine with ancient vampire blood.

But I'd like this reputation to get to people in the know, people we'd like to work for. Like Pathfinders, or Eagle Knights. The average citizen needn't know that we killed an assassin devil, but I'd like to have proof to show to interested parties that we very much can.

...do we need to start a severed heads collection, after all?
Why are you even here? To help some Andoran grandee? To find his probably already dead daughter?
you are planning to give him news of his daughter,
The funny part is, all updates prior to this refer to Eleonora as his sister, while out of the updates we refer to her as his daughter. It even made it to one of the votes a couple updates back. I wonder what's up with that.

This is Cob's anime and we're just the mooks in it lol
Cob and his noble side kicks :V

Its extra amusing because there was a goblin rogue in the kingmaker videogame that called the main character a sidekick...

And also dealt insane sneak attack damage.

I would rather not forget we need enough political clout to help Goroks people. Beyond that I am also fine laying low.

You know, by killing this Aspis agent, we have done more for the Pathfinder than was originally planned. We already fulfilled the quest, and we can even murder Gavhaul and loot his corpse if we want to. I want to.

We can always use the Pathfinder to finance the whole operation.

Also, remember the imps upstairs, what we do not take right now, they will, and they will get all the evidence and valuables they can get.

We already fulfilled the quest
Unfortunately, not yet. The expedition proceeds as before.

But yes, this would be a topic to bring up at the Lodge. Can they take advantage of it in any way?

As for the mansion. The owner styles herself an Azlanti by blood, and is an ancient undead. The rituals she used to reanimate the dead feel familiar to Akorian. Keeping that in mind, her interest in Gavhaul's expedition might not be entirely monetary. We suspect so is Gavhaul's, from the conversation about his brother, and he wanted us to help keep his mouth shut in case she Enthralls him. There is also that she knows Gavhaul's brother in the first place, who is openly interested in whatever is left of the Azlanti Empire.

If she is indeed Azlanti, I want this mansion searched from bottom to top and back to bottom, and then divined upon to check we didn't miss anything connected to our people's history.

[X] Case the whole house, take anything of value that fits in your bags

Yep, I am voting to go full magpie again. Old habits die hard.

This is explicitly the Loot Everything option, so I am taking it. Your plans seems like the intermediate option.
Eh, I thought my intent to thoroughly loot the place was clear.

Here's an updated version of my plan that is more specific. Unfortunately, everyone copy/pasted my plan instead of name voting.

The thing about Cob is people tend to underestimate him a lot. Like... she's dead so I do not think her tactical assessment is much of a spoiler. Since Kori was the one to speak to her first and the one she had met previously she assumed he was the leader. Being the holder of some very old prejudices she figured the leader had to be the wizard with the smoke-shade familiar (made sense for a Caligini). So she focused him down and left the goblin to her infernal servant. When that failed she figured OK, iruxi warrior with the axe next... and then she took 75 damage before damage reduction, at which she blew her last fourth level slot on enchanting Cob, it failed and the rest is history
