[X] Take the deal and present lord Garhaul with the results
Why not, the real value is probably not going to be in the adamant itself but rather any items we can pocket or information we can get.
I mean, the real value is also in the adamantium. That shit is pound for pound more valuable than gold.
Walking out there with 10k+ in liquid money is unlikely, but possible, and would allow for some serious upgrades to our gear.
If there is one understated advantage to Sirim's mind voice it's being able to confer in perfect silence. Mina is concerned over what 'Don't-call-me-Lord' Gavhaul will think of your bargain with Urgor since the dwarf seems to want to strike the deal before he shows up, which might be for the sake of smoothing over your intrusion or might indicate a lack of trust between them. Given the stakes you hardly find the lack of trust surprising, and Sirim is more or less in agreement from the tone in which he facilitates the conversation. By contrast Cob is curious, though not primarily about what you might find at the journey's end. This is the first dwarf he met who does not want to cave his head in and he too had heard of the legendary ingenuity of the stone-born.
You glance over at Gorok and Sirim relays your iruxi friend's thoughts: "Tens of thousands of Golden Sails, thousands of Platinum Eagles, the kind of money that is needed to buy land, to buy an estate for my tribe to dwell in." A pause, then an addition: "There would be complications with the financial viability of such a plan, but those can be dealt with when the shadow falls on them."
"I want to know what's in those pods," you say simply. "I want to know... where I came from."
Mina nods with an encouraging smile and with that Gorok extends a hand to seal the deal. "A fair bargain."
"Indeed," Sirim hisses as he streams out from between the floorboards, a serpentine specter. "Let us..." Whatever the rest of his words should have been are interrupted by an axe flying in his direction.
"Watch out!" you shout even as Sirim seemingly divides from one form into three as the axe bites deep.
Urgor Will Save (DC 10): 1d20+4 = 8 (Failure) -> Urgor Attack: 1d20+9 = 22 (Success)
Sirim Mirror Image: 1d4+1 = 3 -> 1d4 = 4 (Hit)
Sirim takes Damage: 1d8+3 = 9-> Now at 18/27
"Die Kol-Dum!" the dwarf shouts as the runes upon his axe flare in dreadful flame.
Before things can spiral any further, Mina shouts: "Stop, that's my familiar!"
"That's a damn ghost snake!" Urgor snarls, but he does not raise the axe again.
"I am no specter, but a shadow from the realm where shades eternal lie," Sirim hisses. You are not sure what he's saying to Mina in the meantime, but from her wince you guess his reaction to the panicked ruse is not entirely positive.
It is into this particular scene that Lorico Gavhaul, master of the house walks into, garbed in cloak and robe like the stray night, from black silver threaded shoulders to a hem that shows the edge of budding dawn. His own expression is stony, though you can see the blood rush to his head in anger. "Explain yourself, Master Urgor. Who are these people?"
As he puts away his axe you hold your breath. He could still renege on the deal and leave you with a mystery unsolved. "Folks I hired as part of the expedition. Gorok's Company, this here's Gorok, the scaly one, Cob, he's a goblin, fella over there's Akorian, some kind of sneak, that there's Mina, a witch, and we just had some confusion about her... familiar."
The merchant lord glances over at Sirim as Mina's magic threads through the smokey substance of his body, reinforcing it, brow furrowed under the shadow of his hood. Something tells you he welcomes the light as much as you do.
Gavhaul Knowledge (the Planes) (DC 14/24): 1d20+6 = 8 (Failure)
Sirim Healed 9 Damage -> Now at 27/27
"What a remarkable way to greet the familiar of one's allies," he says with an edge of amusement too faint to call to account and yet somehow perfectly audible, making the dwarf look like he bit his tongue so hard you're half expecting him to speak through a mouth full of blood. "Supplies will be delivered of course, travel supplies," Gavhaul continues in a more even tone of voice. "Though if you have other needs, even outré ones, I can provide them at a reasonable price."
What do you do next?
[] Take him up on his offer, see if he has a magical weapon for Gorok in your budget
[] Ask more questions about the expedition
[] Speak to Venture Captain Goldgather about how one goes about joining the Pathfinders
[] Write in
OOC: So yeah... Mina just technically 'outed' herself as a Level 7+ NE spellcaster to anyone who knows what a smokeshade is, which this guy at least does not.
Sorry, Mina, looks like you have to be the scary party member for now. Don't worry, we all know you're a sweetheart.
Urgor certainly doesn't seem to shy away from combat, even when surrounded by potential enemies. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but we're gonna need to keep an eye on that if he's this impulsive when in an otherwise calm setting. I'm guessing he has history with the Undead, if his first reaction to seeing what he believed to be a ghost was to 'kill it with fiery axe!'.
This makes things a bit more complicated than I would have hoped, but it's not too bad. Pepper can pretend to be Kori's Familiar, if necessary, and anyone assuming Sirim is a Familiar will be quite surprised when he starts casting spells of his own.
We don't really have enough to buy Gorok even the most basic +1 magic weapon. We do, however, have more than enough to properly outfit everyone, our three extra Iruxi included, with new basic equipment.
All together, the stuff isn't exactly cheap, but it's not unreasonable either, and we want our party to appear professional and relatively well off rather than only a step or two above Darklands scavengers.
We should also purchase a wagon and some donkeys to pull it. It can carry our equipment and supplies, plus it will make loot transport much easier.
@DragonParadox, I wasn't sure how long the expected journey would be, so I didn't include the cost of travel rations in my plan.
[X] Take him up on his offer, purchase new travel supplies more suited for the surface and the greater availability of finished goods compared to what we could find in Cauldron.
-[X] 7 Explorer's Outfits (10 gold each), 3 Medium Tents (15 gold each), 7 Pathfinder's Kits (12 gold each), 7 Blankets (5 silver each), 7 Mess Kits (2 silver each), 200 Feet of Hemp Rope (1 gold per 50 feet), Cooking Kit (3 gold), Gear Maintenance Kit (1 gold)
-[X] Preliminary Total: 207 gold, 49 silver

The expected journey is by sea to Almas first so it would make sense to buy the wagon here once you head out overland towards Fusil. No sense buying donkeys if you are just going to put them on a ship.

We can't plot the course to distress beacons because all we have is a set of coordinates, and no frame of reference, no? I hope there is something in that ship that would provide us that frame of reference so we could put these locations on the map.

There might be yeah, at the very least they would have to posses some kind of magi-tech navigational aids to land in a forest and not say the middle of the ocean.
Sirim pretending to be Mina's Familiar got me thinking about her actually learning the Improved Familiar feat at 7th level. @DragonParadox, if Mina learned it, could it be used to Pokevolve Pepper into a Silvanshee?
That would really be a perfect upgrade for him, and would fit very well with Mina, IMO. They can Speak with Animals and have Truespeech, so even that would be on theme for her.

I mean... they're the most important adventurer organization on the planet, right? The resources and potential connections that would be opened up to us could be immense.

There is no reason we can't do this, too, but since the dude is asking us if we need to purchase any additional supplies, now seems like the best time to buy them.

Thankfully, Pepper is a modified Figment Familiar, which basically means he is Mina's imaginary friend given form and consciousness through her magic. There won't be any scheming Outsider cats trying to pull our strings this time.
Well, this is Golarion, so anything is possible, but if a cat does it this time at least it won't be anyone's Familiar.
Anyone else have any useful basic gear to add to the list that I'm overlooking?
I was thinking of getting a portable Alchemy lab for Cob. They're not too expensive, but I don't think we really want Cob experimenting with explosive, noxious, or flammable concoctions while we're on the road or traveling with the expedition.
