Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

I'm surprised our people don't know Duergar are immune to poison. It's something of a specialty for the Dark Folk, after all.
*Checks roll.* I meant to say 18 , this is what happens when you write with a fever.
Akorian could have made the harvesting DC if he cast his Guidance spell on himself.

Build without diplomacy feels wrong to me. I believe that DragonParadox could manage with such story (Eriol from his other quest has much worse build, and in the moment those quest is very interesting), but I think that this will be a sorrowful story.

It's a 2nd level spell that we can learn at 4th level and something that would make us extremely valuable to any group, ignoring everything else we'll bring to the party.
But Searching Shadows is from Bard and Wizard/Sorcerer spell list. Our mystery does not grant it as a bonus spell, so does not a curse. Is it from some specific archetype, or what?

Will this work, @DragonParadox?

[X] We activate our Cloak of Darkness to increase our AC to 16 and our Stealth bonus to +11, then cast Guidance on ourselves to increase our Stealth bonus to +12. Then we carefully creep down the ramp trying not to draw attention to ourselves. Once we're in position we uncover our Deeper Darkness pebble to blind the Duergar and as a signal to our fellows to begin the attack.
-[X] Once the attack begins, we'll cast Protection from Evil on ourselves and attempt to free the slaves, to either bolster our numbers or sew confusion among their captors.

Do we even have a weapon? I know we explicitly don't have a dagger, and were talking about getting a crossbow from the raid we're doing right now. What are we planning to do when we get down there?

You do not, stealing weapons and armor is half the reason Kori is here

Not really unfortunately, if you want surprise, the area of impenetrable darkness is a bit of a give away. They will just stop on the other side of it.

Gotcha, figured that was the case, but it's hard to tell without knowing the terrain better.

[X] Descend carefully and then face the caravan in the open without the element of surprise (Do not have a surprise round)

[X] ...the beetle, if you can make the goblin cage fall you know the little blighters will wreak merry hall

So how do you guys feel about Akorian so far? I tried not to insert some hope and anticipation for leaving in his thoughts so it is not all doom and gloom, but given his history some doom and gloom was inevitable.

I like the fact he's a little less morally pure than some of our other protagonists and significantly more underhanded.

Not a lot to go on yet, but so far I'm liking the tone and his inner monologue.

I also appreciate the chance to not need to try to live up to an ideal of law and fairness. That doesn't mean I want us to play him like an unrepentant villain, but being selfish and sneaky doesn't equate to bring bad, either.

In so far as we know anything about the Dark Folk in canon it's that they are inclined to sell out surface dwellers that try to use their services. On the other hand the fact that they have what is basically a very caste society would indicate that they have more loyalty to one another than say goblins. What happened to Akorian is that he fell outside the system, he was denied a place in it so he found his own niche, albeit a transactional one until he could bear it no more

This is how I am reading that CN alignment, as someone who is disappointed in the only society he had ever known who set out in the wide world to find something better.

Knowing the one thing he was denied was basically a sense of belonging, I'm going to guess that'll be a good motivation going forward. Simply finding a niche where you are tolerated isn't enough, we want to be accepted.

I like being the underdog. We will show them, we will show them ALL!

More seriously, the vibe I get from his tale so far is pity. He didn't fit there, so he leaves in search for anything else.

The Darklands so far seem a dark place and I really like how it is going. I see a grimdark adventure here, and I like it for a change of pace.

The increased challenge of not going into diplomacy is nice because it increases Akorian's status as a pariah, and at the same time makes any friend he meets something incredibly vlueable. Long gone are the days of making friends and recruiting anyone. No, we are mostly alone, and we should treasure anyone who stands with us.

There's plenty of interesting places to explore in the Darklands, exploring the drow empire would be really cool.

The Darklands are indeed pretty grim, though in the case of Nar Voth it is no no small part because of the environment, There used to be a lot more major tunnels and a lot more areas of relative abundance, but then the Earthfall happened and with this being the layer nearest to the surface a lot of the passages collapsed, most of the ancient cities of the dwarfs are ruble and ruin, the Xulgath eke out a living as raiders and hunters in crumbled ruins they know not their ancestors built, praying to any who would listen, the Duergar poisoned with resentment and twisted by their dread god bind all they find with chains, not realizing that they too are bound.

The votes are pretty close. I think I'll leave this up for a bit longer
