Akorian could have made the harvesting DC if he cast his Guidance spell on himself.*Checks roll.* I meant to say 18 , this is what happens when you write with a fever.
But Searching Shadows is from Bard and Wizard/Sorcerer spell list. Our mystery does not grant it as a bonus spell, so does not a curse. Is it from some specific archetype, or what? It's a 2nd level spell that we can learn at 4th level and something that would make us extremely valuable to any group, ignoring everything else we'll bring to the party.
There is a Revelation that lets us learn extra Shadow and Darkness spells from the Sorcerer/Wizard spell list. But Searching Shadows is from Bard and Wizard/Sorcerer spell list. Our mystery does not grant it as a bonus spell, so does not a curse. Is it from some specific archetype, or what?
Do we even have a weapon? I know we explicitly don't have a dagger, and were talking about getting a crossbow from the raid we're doing right now. What are we planning to do when we get down there?
Will this work, @DragonParadox?
[X] We activate our Cloak of Darkness to increase our AC to 16 and our Stealth bonus to +11, then cast Guidance on ourselves to increase our Stealth bonus to +12. Then we carefully creep down the ramp trying not to draw attention to ourselves. Once we're in position we uncover our Deeper Darkness pebble to blind the Duergar and as a signal to our fellows to begin the attack.
-[X] Once the attack begins, we'll cast Protection from Evil on ourselves and attempt to free the slaves, to either bolster our numbers or sew confusion among their captors.
Gotcha, figured that was the case, but it's hard to tell without knowing the terrain better. Not really unfortunately, if you want surprise, the area of impenetrable darkness is a bit of a give away. They will just stop on the other side of it.
Not a lot to go on yet, but so far I'm liking the tone and his inner monologue. So how do you guys feel about Akorian so far? I tried not to insert some hope and anticipation for leaving in his thoughts so it is not all doom and gloom, but given his history some doom and gloom was inevitable.

I also appreciate the chance to not need to try to live up to an ideal of law and fairness. That doesn't mean I want us to play him like an unrepentant villain, but being selfish and sneaky doesn't equate to bring bad, either.
I like being the underdog. We will show them, we will show them ALL!
More seriously, the vibe I get from his tale so far is pity. He didn't fit there, so he leaves in search for anything else.
The Darklands so far seem a dark place and I really like how it is going. I see a grimdark adventure here, and I like it for a change of pace.
The increased challenge of not going into diplomacy is nice because it increases Akorian's status as a pariah, and at the same time makes any friend he meets something incredibly vlueable. Long gone are the days of making friends and recruiting anyone. No, we are mostly alone, and we should treasure anyone who stands with us.
