[Four Years prior to the start of the 5th Heaven's Feel]
[Fuyuki City]
[Tohsaka Mansion]
Sealed within a fence of wrought iron, the bars covered with overgrowth declaring the would be owners neglect, a large western mansion looms incongruously within a self-contained jungle of ivy. The walls, painted a light brown, are wrapped by vibrant dark greens of enroaching plant life. Nestled within this monument of man's eternal struggle against nature is seated one young girl, her black hair wrapped in twin tails.
A consumate survivor of tragedy. This child has endured the loss of a parent not once or twice, but three times. Her father to death on the battlefield. The daughter knowing he died on his feet, facing his foe with dignity and grace befitting his lineage. And her mother, tragically was lost twice, the first time to madness caused by strangulation at the hands of an unknown assailant. The young girl did not know who the culprit was, but all evidence indicated that the individual must have been some heinous, limp wristed coward. Who else would dare harm such a gentle soul as the girls mother, and then fail to follow through? The girl's third loss was of a more recent variety, as her invalid mother had passed away only a short time ago.
Leaving her in the hands of her caretaker, the last remaining person who could join her in fond remembrance of both her loving parents.
Dusk had long since passed into twilight, and the young girl was found in her inner sanctum, that room where she was free to express her most private and most secret thoughts and actions. Yes, within the safety of her Workshop. For this girl was but a Magus, and so she wailed and gnashed her teeth in frustration with all the dignity one would expect of her station. Brows furrowed in annoyance, the middle school girl swept her tiny arms out, knocking to the floor several stacks of crisp paper, mixed with smaller piles of heavy velium.
The childish pout intensified, a growl escaping from her throat, leaking through her clenched jaw, as sapphire eyes opened and stared up into the shadowed space above her not illuminated by candlelight.
"What the heck was that, huh?! What was with that blockhead and that stupid high bar?!" Rin Tohsaka muttered to herself, continuing to grind her teeth together in annoyance at the spectacle she had experienced only a few hours prior. A young, redhaired boy, challenging an impossible task, over and over again, never with any chance of success, nor with any attention paid to the chance of failure. The thoughtless, single minded stubbornness of that unknown boy from a different school struck the young Magus, shaking her to the core for reasons she couldn't even begin to fathom. Leveling a final glare into the shadows, as if the target of her ire were somehow actually present just beyond the light's reach, the young girl stood up with a sigh.
Mastering herself, the Tohsaka heir glanced around at the chaos she had left in the wake of this latest tantrum. After a moment, her eyes shut, and another sigh issued forth. Cleaning up after herself could wait until tomorrow. As Rin's prodigious mind went through increasingly ever more elaborate rationalizations, a thin, piercing chime interrupted her thought process, bringing it once more into a careening mess.
"What the hell is it now?!" The twintailed girl growled in renewed anger, "Who comes to someone else's house unannounced at this time of the day?!" A secret hope rose at the idea of someone, someone who hadn't had the chance to speak to her for some time, someone who was always a bit shy, being at the door, before being quashed by cold magus intellect. It couldn't be her, after all. She was happy in her new home, now. After all, why on earth else would she actively avoid socializing with anyone? Why else would she have not heard from her in years? She must have been content. There was no other explanation. None at all. The thought cooled, making her pace up towards her home's entryway slower, more sedate, more dignified. By the time she had reached to open her front door, the mask was restored, self control once more firmly set in place. The prim and proper Tohsaka Heir moved to greet her visitor, the very image of calm dignity.
Until she was blasted in the face by floodlights of unknown origin.
"TOHSAKA RIN!" A voice cut through the blinding light, causing the girl to blink, refocusing the gaze on the figure standing before her, "What manners are these, where you let a prospective guest stand out in front of your door without so much as greeting them!?"
The pitch was high, the voice unmistakably feminine. As Rin blinked the spots out of her eyes while cursing Kirei for not teaching her how to safely reinforce them, the young magus finally began to make out the self proclaimed "prospective guest". Standing slightly taller than her, black hair straightened and reaching almost to their hip, a young girl in a brown sailor uniform seemed to be the identity of this late night caller. Rin slowly raised a hand above her eyes, as if to shield them from the blazing light forming the new arrivals backdrop, and the act seemed enough to provide a clearer focus on the girl's features. The girl couldn't have been more than a year her senior, her pale white skin serving as a harsh contrast to her brown delinquent uniform, it's skirt reaching to her ankles.
Rin felt a tugging at her lips at the image of the person in front of her, could she be trying any harder to look like a punk? A hard clicking sound brought the Tohsaka's attention to an overlooked detail that proved that yes, she could. Held in the new girl's hands was the pale white sheathe of a sword, slightly too large for her, but Rin realized that she was hardly one to talk, given that she had been considering buying those awfully short skirts for some time now…
"Are you going to stand there all day like some slack jawed idiot, Tohsaka Rin, or are you going to greet your visitor?!" The girl's commanding voice and an intensification of the light behind her brought Rin's attention back to the girl, her severe face staring down as incredibly thick, black eyebrows were furrowed in clear annoyance.
A harsh response died on Rin's lips as she realized that hidden behind the girl by her mysterious floodlights were a number of hulking figures in black suits, carefully surveying the property which the ancestral Tohsaka home stood upon. Magus or not, Rin still lacked sufficient training to handle even one man of their size, let alone a small army of them. And she also doubted she would be able to activate her home's bounded fields to defend herself in time, were things to become violent. Eyes narrowing in frustration, the perfect heir plastered on a polite smile and greeted her guest.
"Ah, my apologies, as you can see I'm a bit unused to receiving calls this late at night, especially from ones as gaudy as yourself." Rin's smile widened slightly, "You see, I was a bit surprised by the fact that I would be visited by a small delegation completely unannounced. And from a clear senior, at that. I'm afraid that I'm a bit inexperienced when dealing with such unexpected, and uninvited, guests." As Rin's eyes crinkled slightly, the visitor's own expression became less furrowed, the annoyance bleeding off somewhat.
"Hmph. See that it does not happen again. As an individual of higher standing, the ability to interact properly with those greater than yourself is a necessary skill to survive. You lack training, but in recognition of your circumstances I suppose I can allow that to pass."
Eyebrow beginning to twitch at the girl's brazen arrogance, Rin fell back on ingrained manners in order to buy time to regroup.
How do you respond?
[] Snark back. You're Tohsaka Rin, latest in the line of illustrious Tohsaka's! This is your property, and like hell you're going to be talked down to!
[] Play along, this girl's barely older than you, but she's clearly loaded. She wants something, and lowering her guard will only make it easier for you to wring every last penny out of her smug little face!
