Well that was certainly an interesting encounter and as far as i can tell Amakusa gave us one of his skills in some way.
But the bigger mystery here is gaining additional magic circuits, getting more is kind of doable with a crest but this case is far beyond that since they seem to have been integrated in a way that makes them no different from out natural ones and make us able to support two servants effortlessly, even if one of them is Assassin, even Rin could not do that without being strained during a grail war and she has some of the most potent circuits around.
And OzymanDIO being summoned and publicly declaring his divine right to rule the world is probably giving the entire association endless conniptions.

I put up a write in for the second option because we really should get around to talk with saber about what they want out of this war and how to achieve it without horribly dying along the way, also building a rapport with your own servant is very important if you want to have any chance of getting anywhere.

We need to know our servants better and I'm not all that keen on looking for another random encounter. Also we should probably let our wounds heal more than not at all.

I will admit to a fair deal of ignorance regarding the lore and rules of the Fate series but I sort of thought that the grail war was suppose to remain a secret to the general population of the world. A secret people would be killed by the dozens to keep.
Having a Pyramid and Desert appearing overnight next to a large city followed with the self proclaimed King Ozymandias giving interviews to reporters does not sound like the whole grail business is going to stay a secret for long.
Then again DoBetterLettuce did say this is a parallel universe so I guess maybe this rule is not as important as it might be in the normal universe.

@Captain.Cat - no, the grail is definitely supposed to be secret. The Association is probably throwing a hissy for about all of this. And if Ozymandias was summoned by Tokiomi — as I can't think of anyone else who would be able to get a catalyst for him and summon him, given Tokiomi's whole "bullshit hax power" thing he tried with Gil in the main timeline — the his own master is probably throwing a hissy fit too. And also probably breaking out some of the stronger wine in his collection.

Well, um... yeah, no. There is still an unspoken rule of "don't reveal magic or the nature of Servants"...
But Ozymandias doesn't care about stuff like that. He would reveal his identity to anybody, even enemy Servants, simply because he feels assured of his victory.
Right now, probably all of the magus community is freaking out

Woo! I really like the write-in idea, and I'm glad someone suggested it. Bit surprised that Ozy didn't win - but I guess y'all really want to start the magus-stuff.
Just an FYI - I might be doing some maintenance on the previous chapters, just to get the formatting fixed. Don't get too surprised.
The next chapter should be up in one or two days.

The allure of meeting God-King Ozymandias is strong. One of the greatest pharaohs who ever walked this earth - the inner historian within you screams that you need to see him in person, that you need to meet with one of the great kings of legend that quite literally left their mark on history. If you could just meet him, even for a second…
Unfortunately, you can't see that happening right now. There's probably news crews crawling around in the area, and the Clock Tower is probably freaking out right now (musty old bastards). Going there today would be a foolish move.
That's not even considering the danger of approaching a pharaoh like him - if the legends were true, then Ozymandias wasn't just the descendant of a god but the literal embodiment of the sun god. Pure divinity, probably the closest thing to a true god in today's age of mankind.
Saber nods. "A fine choice. So then what?"
You scratch your head. This part might be a bit awkward, and you don't want to scare Saber away... but it's something you've been meaning to do for a while.
"I was… wondering if I could learn a bit more about you? I mean, I know Ja- Assassin's identity, but I don't know yours. Especially with that mask on." You ask, suddenly aware of how inadequate the setting is for this - you'd want a bit of privacy, ideally, but you can't get up without moving Assassin, and you'd hate to interrupt her sleep.
That's not all of it. There were a lot of details about Saber that were bugging you, but you wanted to get permission first before you start poking around. Some Heroic Spirits might not take too kindly to this sort of questioning, especially those with more... clouded past.
Saber shrugs. "Sure, why not. What do you want to know?"
And just like that, you have permission. You don't hesitate.
"Are you Yamato Takeru?" You blurt out, impulsively
There's a few seconds of silence before Saber speaks. "...And how did you figure that out?"
Saber's tone is carefully neutral, though curious. You take that as a sign to continue.
"Well, there are a few things." You hold up your hand. "Firstly - you're using a single sword, but you're obviously Japanese. If you were a newer samurai, I would've expected two swords. That narrows it down a lot."
You pause a second, letting that sink in, before moving on. "More importantly - you said your sword's name."
You keep your eyes trained on Saber, daring them to deny it. They don't.
"Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi."
The name rolls off your tongue. The legendary sword of the god Susanoo, found in the belly of the great beast Yamata-No-Orochi, and a timeless, peerless sword known throughout Japan as one of the Three Imperial Regalia. The Excalibur of Japanese mythology, so to speak.
"You said it during our fight with Assassin. Only the last part - but I remember. I have a good memory for this sort of thing" you say with a grin.
"And... well, I was wondering if you were Susanoo. That would've been interesting, having a god as a Servant-"
Saber snorts in amusement at that, finding it funny for some reason-
"- but then I realized another of Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi's names. The Grass-cutting Sword, the sword that can control the wind." You pause, carefully inspecting Saber, who is standing motionless; like a statue.
"When you cut through the walls of the building - there was a rush of air that followed it. At first I thought it was just the speed of your strike - but that's your sword's ability, right?" You finish.
It was a stretch, but it fit the bill much more than any other possible Servant candidate. It couldn't be Susanoo, as they were a Divine Servant - and while Yamatohime-no-mikoto did have the sword at one point, they weren't known as a swordsperson.
"...Feh." Finally, after a small eternity of silence, Saber lets out a sigh, sitting back lazily with one leg crossed over the other. "Man, I must really be getting out of practice."
"So I'm right?" You need to make sure. Even if it seems pretty clear by now-
"Yep, you got me." Saber holds their hands up in mock-surrender. "Here, I never liked wearing this silly thing anyways." With a swift movement, Saber's komuso hat is off -
- and Yamato Takeru sits infront of you, hands on her lap. Her radiance is almost blinding - you can tell that this is the genuine article, the real deal, with just a quick glance. The charisma of a warrior, of a king leading an army surrounds her like the halo of a guardian angel.
The Brave of Yamato, the legendary prince, the twelfth Emperor of Japan, a swordsperson of mythology and legend.
She's a girl. A pretty one, at that. The picture of a Japanese Beauty - long, flowing black hair, and a slender face. The stance and build of a warrior, yet slight enough to stay distinctly feminine. You blink in surprise, trying to process what's infront of you. Now that you think about it, Saber's build was always distinctly feminine, but - you never seemed to realize it. You only stop staring when Saber coughs, letting you know that yes, staring at her body was slightly uncomfortable.
"...That explains the cross dressing thing." You say, finally. Hey, Jack the Ripper is sitting on your lap - or, at least, one version of her? And though your inner historian may deny this, vehemently, you can't really deny what's infront of you. Yamato Takeru is a girl. A woman.
Saber scrunches up her nose. "I never liked dresses. Too stuffy. Still, it got me in."
"So, Master-" She leans forward, resting her head on her hands. Her eyes gleam. "-why the sudden interest in your Servant's identity? I doubt that it's just to confirm your suspicions."
You shrug, neither a confirmation nor a denial. "You're right. As much as I wanted to know your identity simply because, I also wanted your advice. What should I be doing in this war?" You spread your hands out. "You have military experience, and I think you should give me some suggestions. Or, just advise me. I have no idea what to do next."
That's putting it bluntly. Normal Grail War candidates have months, maybe even years to form an strategy. To build alliances, hoard resources, learn useful skills. Some are even trained from birth for this war, devoting all of their life to this.
You? You were Shanghai'd into this war just yesterday - and by all means, you were doing fantastic for a candidate that was just thrown into the deep end. Still, you know your luck will run out eventually.
...which is why you're talking to Saber.
Takeru rubbed her chin, her brow scrunched in concentration. "Y'know, Master, I'm the sort of gal who goes in, sword swinging. I'm not the next Nobunaga or Zhuge Liang. But, as far as I can see, you have three options."
"Only three?" You were hoping for more - but, beggars can't be choosers. You should be thankful for what you have. "Hit me."
She smiles - a flash of white - before settling for a more subdued grin. "The first option is to lay low. Let the other Servants take the heat for a while, while you try to keep a low profile. That'll allow you to save your energy for the final push."
"...which is what most of the other Masters will be doing, with Ozymandias on the field." You finish. It's logical, and a safe approach. Let the heavy-hitters wear each other out, before going in for the kill.
But war was never won by doing the safe option...
"The second option would be to try to out-compete the other masters." Saber tilts her head, giving you a sidelong appraisal. "Even if you don't have the resources to compete with the big boys, you might be able to beat most of the other magus straight-up with two Servants. Then, working together, Jack and I might be able to take out Ozymandias."
"The middle option." Not overtly aggressive, but using what you have for your advantage. Simply fighting the other magus head-on might work, but -
"What if there's another extremely powerful Servant, like Ozymandias? Or the other magus make a deal?" You say, carefully.
Saber laughs. "We'll be screwed. Royally screwed. We'd have to change our strategy, or adapt."
She takes a sip out of a glass - you don't know how she pulled it out, or where she pulled it out from, but you guess that's just the magic of a Servant at work, a living Mystery indeed - "Other than that, we can just pray. Hope, and pray."
Great. "And the last option?"
Saber sets her glass down onto the table with a low clink. You realize that this was a bad idea when Saber smiles, a wolfish smile that reveals her canines. "Controlled chaos. We have the advantage in Servants, and you're a ridiculously strong - and relatively unknown Master." she jabs your chest with her pointer finger. "Take advantage of every opportunity you get. Play dirty. If that works - well, the other Masters won't know what hit them. Keep them guessing, keep them wondering. Make them so scared that they don't know what to do."
"...I take it you speak from experience?" You reply, drolly.
"Maybe from a little bit, yeah." Saber smiles wistfully. "Being known as the Brave of Yamato had its benefits and its downsides. Having a reputation was one of the benefits." She slaps her sheath. "Didn't hurt that most of the rumors were true."
That was true, but - you don't know if you can do something like that. You're a researcher, not a fighter - and certainly not someone that the other Masters should be afraid of!
You take a deep breath.
"I think we should-"
[X] Stay low. Stay safe, and figure something out before engaging in combat.
[X] Use your Servants while you can. Take advantage of your numbers.
[X] Go for an all-out attack. Use the fear and mystery surrounding you as protection.
"Oy!" Saber interrups you, leaning over to noogie your head - ow, ow! You try to pull away, only for Saber's other hand to wrap around your neck, holding you close.
"You don't need to choose now. Take some time to think it over, mk?"
"I will, I will - so can you stop that?" You cry, desperately. Ow! Uncle, uncle! You tap Saber's arm, the pressure only lessening slightly.
"Ah... Mama?"
Oh.
In unison, you both turn to Assassin. Who is awake. And staring at Saber - who is still holding your neck - you feel chills go down your spine as Assassin's killing intent is turned to Saber.
Saber lets you go, quickly.
Not fast enough.
"...Hell is starting. We are flames, rain, power... Let there be a slaughter..." There's a sudden spike in prana usage as Assassin channels her Noble Phantasm. Gah! You do the only thing you can - which is hug Assassin, who is still on your lap. She squirms as you pin her arms to her chest. "Please don't kill Saber, she's been really nice to me so far."
"But, Mom..." Assassin whines, squirming against your hug. She sounds like a kid complaining about eating their veggies.
"Jack..." You warn Assassin, sternly.
"Fine... but only because Mommy said so." Jack pouts, adorably, as she sits back onto your lap. You feel more than a little bit embarrassed and happy that Assassin's still calling you her mother. Hopefully she doesn't do that in public, or there'll be more than a few questions being raised.
"...Ahem." Saber looks distinctly miffed about being ignored. "Should we get going, then?"
...
...
"I don't really see what's the reason for this... research." Saber spits the word out like a swear. You're walking down the street to grab some supplies - the nearby Home Despot™ should have what you need. "Won't you have us protecting you?"
"Yeah, Mommy!" Jack bounces up and down besides you. "We can take care of it!"
You resist the urge to hug her - she looks absolutely adorable, for a serial killer, when she's dressed up; clad in a purple hoodie and jeans that you borrowed from Sakura. The hoodie is slightly large on her, and you have a nigh-irresistable urge to get Jack to eat more, she's so skinny. Of course, being a Servant means that won't work, but it's the thought that counts, right?
Saber looked... distinctly un-huggable. She managed to find the edgiest, most punk clothes that you had - studded vests and all - and combining them with the sheathed sword by her side she looked like a gangster-samurai-punk. Samurai-gangster?... Whatever style she was going for though, she made it work. Somehow.
"As much as I trust you, I need to have my own protection." You reply with a smile. "You two will most likely be fighting on the front lines, so I'll need something to protect myself."
"Don't you have reinforcement or something?" Saber asks, her tone questioning. "Any sorta crazy magus powers?"
You wince."Ah, uh... about that..."
...
"You're kidding me." Saber gives you the "why are you here exactly" look, her tone exasperated as she stares at you. "You don't know how to reinforce your body - you don't know any self-defense techniques? Not even - familiars? Nothing?" her tone is expectant, as if she's waiting for you to reveal some hidden technique or something, something you don't have whatsoever.
"Look, I wasn't planning this, okay?" You reply, testily, avoiding her gaze. You don't want her condescension, not now - you know you messed up. "This trip was supposed to be a fresh start, a-and - look, it wasn't high on my list of priorities, okay?" You might be needing to revise your priorities soon - if you live past the next week, that is.
"Can't you learn reinforcement?"
You snort. "In a day? You might as well just ask me to just blow my arms off."
Reinforcing limbs was a tricky business; maintaining an even flow of prana into your arms without overloading your body required training, lots of it. It would be easier with a teacher - but neither Saber nor Assassin was a competent magus, so you'll just have to do without.
"Besides, I do have something in mind for self-defense."
You pause at the entrance to the Home Despot™, studying the signs near the entrance.
Copper - copper tubing? Maybe just a copper frame. "My family researches polarity, and - well, last time I practiced, I blew up a light bulb."
You grab a box of lightbulbs as you pass by - no point in not buying them. They'll probably work; you eyeballed the socket from a distance, but they seem to be the right size. Heh - eyeballed the socket. You smirk at your bad pun. A copper rod, the lightbulbs and... that should be it. You check out the supplies before heading out the exit, Saber and Assassin close behind. "I think I know why that happened - and if I'm right, we can do some really cool stuff with this."
"Wait, you blew up a lightbulb?" Saber pauses for a second, her gait slowing. "...You aren't trying to do that again, are you?"
You're about to say no, when - huh, that might actually be useful. Maybe as an EMP?...
"...not currently. Right now-"
You tap the copper rod you bought-
"-you might want to stand back."
You press on the rod, and push - your prana surges, your fingers tingling as they touch the cold metal surface. There's nobody else around, and you're in a relatively underpopulated area, so you feel safe doing this.
Out of the corner of your eye you see Jack glancing at the metal curiously. "Magnets?"
You nod, still concentrating. Brute-forcing the method is not how most magus would test things - but hey, you're a weirdo in that regard. "Just a test."
There's a hum - and then a pulsing glow, as the copper surges with static charge. Your fingers tingle - that's what you felt before, with the previous experiment. Now, however, you continue to push, feeling the resistance give way as your circuits fight against Gaia's will.
You push more prana in, until you can practically feel the metal shift, the prana-charged electrons forming a flowing circuit around the metal beam.
Just as a test, you hold the piece of metal with two hands- one hand - then none, marveling at what you've done. Congratulations! You've successfully magnetized a random piece of metal! You can't help but let out a little squeal of excitement.
Saber is less enthusiastic. "And this is supposed to help you?"
"Yes, actually." You reply. You won't have Saber raining on your parade, not until she sees what you can really do. "Look-" you point to piece of rubble on the side of the road, about...five or six meters away, and roughly the size of your head, concrete with wires mixed in. Concentrating, you pull the piece, pouring prana into your palm and forcing the magnetic force to grow. The piece of rock wobbles, slowly shifting towards you. No, that's not what you want - you grit your teeth, and push harder, your circuits burning a hole in your back.
The rock twitches, again, before gradually sliding towards you, finally coming to a rest in front of you. You turn to Saber with a weary smile on your face.
"Huh, neat trick." Saber doesn't sound too impressed, but she does lift the rock, doing a slight whistle as she does. "Dang, this is heavier than I thought, like thirty pounds." She drops it with a thud back onto the concrete.
"I could probably pull smaller stuff, as well." You comment, looking back at the rock. "Like a soda can, or something. And that'd be a lot faster."
You start to look around for a can, only for Jack to stop you. "Assassin?"
"Mommy? I think there's a little problem about that." You follow Assassin's pointing upwards, towards the side of the road.
And then the telephone poles around you crackle, discharging the last wisps of electricity before finally falling dormant. Lights all around you go dark as power is cut off. You hear more than a few angry yells from the newly de-powered neighborhood.
Whoops.
Maybe that's enough practicing for today.
[Skill updated - your upgraded magic circuits allow you to both manipulate polarity across a wide distance (about 5 meters) as well as disrupt all electronics within a half-mile radius.]
"Heyo, Kariya." You give a wave to Kariya as you walk into the house. He grunts in return, returning to his work, only for Sakura to poke him in the side. "Kariya, you can't just sit there and grunt, you'll turn into a gorilla. Hi, Johanna. Have a nice day?"
"Yes, actually." You smile back at Sakura as you sit back down at one of the chairs. Sakura's cooking some bean dish - three-bean? with some sort of lasagna on the side for dinner. You haven't eaten breakfast nor lunch today, and your mouth waters slightly simply from the delicious aroma.
"Anything happen at school?"
She shrugs. "Nothing much; most of the kids are talking about the desert and the pyramids that appeared. One of my classmates who lives nearby says that it just appeared, out of nowhere - and now everyone thinks it's because of aliens."
She stirs the pot, adding a touch of thyme and garlic to the beans. Heh- aliens. From an outsider's perspective, outrageous as that might be, it made the most sense.
"And what do you think?" You tease, leaning back in the chair.
"It's the Holy Grail War, obviously." CRASH!
Sakura just looks at you as you lie there, stunned, on the ground. "Ozymandias is a Servant, right? We got to see the interview on television in class today, and-"
"Sakura, it isn't the Grail War." Kariya replies matter-of-factly, though he seems tense. Understandably tense, though. "The Grail was taken apart months ago, by the Clock Tower. They would have gutted the entire system."
"Uncle Kariya, it's the Grail War." Sakura replies. "That's the most logical reason."
"And as I said before-"
"Just because you don't want it to be true, doesn't mean that it's not true." Oof. The one Holy Grail War participant (you) winces slightly. Sakura does not mince words.
She turns to you, and - despite the fact that it's impossible for her to have discovered your secret - you feel a bead of sweat drip down your back, feeling distinctly uncomfortable under Sakura's inquisitive gaze.
"Do you think that it's the war?"
"Wh-huh?" You manage to reply, about as elegant as usual. "Wait, you're asking for my opinion?"
"Of course." Sakura looks at you like you're slow. "I think that it's the War, Kariya thinks that it's not, so you're the tiebreaker."
Well, when you put it that way...
"Uh..."
Sakura's gaze is knowing - you can't shake the feeling that she knows more than she lets on. Is this her way of telling you to spill? If so, what do you do? The kitchen goes quiet as you try to think of what to answer.
[X] Of course it's the War. Y-you aren't part of it, or anything, but it makes the most sense, right?
[X] Of course not. The Grail was destroyed, months ago - maybe this is a different War?
[X] Of course it's the War. You were dragged into it, after all. [Reveal Command Seals and Servants]

Somebody pick up that phone, because I freaking called it!
Actually? Not gonna lie, I was aiming for another Servant... but then I read your analysis, and I was like
"Dang, that fits wayyy too well... crap, it fits too well!"
and thus Saber's identity was sealed.
Seriously, good freaking job
