Evangelion Ideas Thread: You Can (Not) Rebuild

How I'd want to play out a trans Shinji scenario in yes of other people's reactions besides Gendo:
  • Misato: Incredibly cool and supportive about it apart from being embarassingly proud and motivated about Shinji getting out of her shell. Especially when drunk.
  • Maya: Passes some useful resources one day.
  • Ritsuko: Just getting the worst vibes here.
  • Asuka: Still teasing and mocking Shinji but like, weirdly supportive about it? She still thinks Shinji's a loser and a creep, but she's not going to get her pronouns wrong or anything.
  • Rei: Immediately goes into an internal monologue about the nature of the self and how it is shaped by societal expectations and yourself and everyone else just wonders why she's staring off into the middle distance.
  • Futsuyuki: Tries to tell a story about how Yui attended pride and would be proud of Shinji, trails off when he realizes it would conclude with "and then your mom decided the best way to smash heteronormativity was to fuse all souls into one being". Everyone is even more confused by Yui and Gendo's relationship than before. Stutters awkwardly when Shinji asks what her parents planned on naming a daughter.
  • Kaworu: Cannot Shut The Hell Up about how wonderful the Lillim ability to decide their own gender presentation is, comes off as a creep accidentally and gets punched by Asuka in defense of Shinji somehow kicking off Asuka/Shinji as a relationship.

At the very least, *anything* that gets any Shinji into a more stable headspace means End of Evangelion will be so much less of a tirefire.

This idea works better with a timeline that is more the original show with Sadamoto's designs. The Rebuild character design makes it more clear that Shinji looks like his dad (teen Gendo and a thirty-something-year-old Shinji appearing in the final film).

And then there is that ad where Gendo shaves…

Ok, yeah, original show works best.

I think I know the one you mean, though mercifully I don't remember many details, but my mind first went to one by @Dartz where Natsu Ikari is the one to answer the summons. Best coming out scene I've ever read:

Gendo: "You are not my son!"
Natsu: "What was your first clue? Was it the way I fill this dress?"

That wasn't me

But in this Vein, when I was asked the question - I had a funnier idea:

UNITED NATIONS TOP SECRET
HANDLE VIA: PROJECT E -- 1759 -- CHI RHO

Author: Mjr Kitsuribami, Yuuki. Director of Appropriation NERV Headquarters
Date: 2015-07-20
Subject: Inefficiencies due to Gender Segregation of Evangelion Children
Original Document Language: Japanese
Authorised Translated copies: German. English. Russian. Chinese.

The committee for budgetary appropriations has determined that, compared with the project cost of modifying an accelerated healing chamber to sufficiently and permanently alter the physical characteristics of the Third Child, applying of necessary counselling to same, replacing the wardrobe of Third Child and bureaucratic minutiae, retaining gender segregated hardware and facilities for one single pilot represents an unnecessary and egregious expense within the department and requires the duplication of far too many functions and personell

A trio of female pilots would represent a far more efficient utilisation of department resources and allow for significant economies of hardware design and utilisation of facilities. Therefore, this approach should be adopted at the soonest possibility.

Sincerely.
Mjr. Kitsuribami.

Just as many writers have done their own little 'OVA' side stories to their main fics, I'm going to do the same with "NERV Gets Smart". In this one-or-two-shot, Shinji and CONTROL find they must protect Tokyo-3 (and the world) from another menace thought to have been beaten back in the 60s. A menace…famously played by Vincent Price. (No, not Egghead.)

I call it "NERV Gets Smart OVA: Dr. Akagi vs. Dr. Goldfoot"!

New idea, inspired by episode 4 of History Channel's The Icons Who Changed America:

Before arriving in Tokyo-3, Shinji sees a Bruce Lee movie for the first time, and having become fascinated by the legendary martial artist and film star, winds up reading all of his books. By the time he arrives in Tokyo-3, he's really taken to Lee's philosophy and teachings, as well as become very proficient in Jeet Kune Do. Fascinated by his new friend's skills, in a subplot, Kensuke discovers an interest in screenwriting, and we see his development into a young filmmaker with parallels to Quentin Tarantino's early years.

The idea of Kensuke being into feet and dropping N-bombs in his films is very funny, but probably not what you meant here. :V

Shinji's passivity being tempered into a water-like flow would do him good, though.

Borrowing the idea of "Campus Apocalypse" being about Angels possessing humans and the Children being essentially Persona wielders…

How about a "Angels are a sentient viral infection/memetic virus that mutates people" or "rival sub-variants of a humanoid alien species" in the vein of "Threshold" or "First Wave" (this one fits quite well, with the "Nostradamus was an alien who left behind info on the invasion procedures as prophecies" = "Dead Sea Scrolls" plot point) or the 1998 show "Prey"?

"NERV Gets KISS'd" idea for the battle with Arael. You're gonna love this one.

Asuka, in this turn of events, is ready for Arael's attack, and in an unexpected shocker of a twist, Unit-02 sprouts bat-like wings of dark light and flies up to face the unprepared 15th Angel. How's the death blow dealt? Asuka has Unit-02 pull an Ozzy and bite the Angel's head off.

All to the tune of this number, sung in duet by Asuka and Mari:

okay thats fun why not a retelling of "Weird Science" with Shinji as Lisa (… if we add Misato as Chet, maybe?).

fanfic of this show I have readed in the past year or so usually focus on the main caste which understandbly is common.

I want to see a fanfic that don't focus on the main caste but instead..on JSSDF.

Like they are one of the most important elements of the show and we don't get much information truly about them.

I would love to see a fic where the JSSDF trooper ( one who was putting gun on shinjis head during the end of Evangelion Film) facing a timeloop everytime he dies inside nerve.

Or one where the generals or the unnamed prime minister of Japan plan and authorise the assault on nerve.

It would be a very intresting idea to be honest.

Unlike the other castes these people won't really have too much to prepare for trying to save the world.

They also lack quite a bit of information but again we do know that Japanese internal security agency knowns about the existence of seele..so they might not really be blind Turkeys afterall.

There was a fic where everyone in the show was a Mary Sue but it still unfortunately excluded the JSSDF from the Mary Sue effect.

What do you think ?

...How has no one thought of THIS?

In wanting to help her charges, Misato Katsuragi does the unexpected--has them meet with a motivational speaker! But not just any
motivational speaker, as with the limited budget she's given, she ends up hiring the least likeliest of speakers: an abrasive, clumsy, down-on-his-luck, over-caffeinated American by the name of
Matt Foley. Will this heavyset eccentric loudmouth be able to get the pilots to rethink their life perspectives? Will they end up plunging further into despair? Will one of them grow curious about what it's like to be living in a van down by the river? Find out in: "Super-Wackos of EVA: NERV Gets Motivated"! Narrated by Kevin Nealon!
