You gladly accept the job your Grandfather offers. Congratulations, you are now CEO of Tactical Investments, a member of the SPECTRE organization. You now have a larger set of responsibilities with a large potential payoff.
Next morning things are not looking that great.
Your gathered advisors paint a sorry picture of your lands.
Colonel Benjamin Marcelles tells you of your tiny, underfunded, archaic army. He begs for expansion and modernization.
The rotund Romaine Caroline, in between stuffing her face, tells you of a world mostly unaware of your nations existence. Since your mother's death she has been your father's suspected mistress.
Cesar Gerold, a former manager at T.I. now your stewardship advisor paints a picture of an infrastructure far behind the times, needing vast amounts of time and effort. At least your farmland is doing great.
You have no spiritual advisor and your father's spymaster has not been seen since the hunting accident.
As for your head researcher, your other advisors point to the slightly uncontrolled fire and growing cloud of smoke in the distance. Ah.

Military
Colonel Benjamin Marcelles sits you down to discuss the poor state of your army.
It is tiny, their equipment is shoddy and morale is at an all time low. And for gods sakes why are you are still using pikemen?

Diplomacy
Romaine Caroline, your fathers diplomacy advisor and suspected mistress shows all the fine work her department has done. Which is barely any at all. Most countries don't even know you exist. Learning
Marching towards the smoking ruins of a house just outside the city, you search for your Head Researcher. Alexander Maximiliane is supposed to be a hulk of a man. Red Hair, massive beard and a mind with more than a touch of madness.
Through the smoke and steam a shapely figure of a beautiful woman appears. Goggles atop her head, leather pants hugging her fine posterior, soaked blouse almost see through. She is attempting to lift a massive pile of wreckage off the still form of Alexander Maximiliane. You quickly lend a hand and drag him to the clinic. She introduces herself as Silvia Maximiliane, daughter of Alexander and temporary head researcher while her father recovers.

Interesting, some good turns and some bad ones.

At least we haven`t started a war with Germany.:p

I think we should look into a joined operation together with the germans to get our guns.

These carmanufacturers are great. Seriously we should invest in them, all the political cloud, military contracts, engineers... I begin to salivate here.
And Edison, huh, I can imagine worse. Besides we got Nikolai Tesla as in TESLA.

All in all we should be in a much better position with the proletariat now. So no filthy communist revolution I imagine.

And from kind of sorority comes our spymistress?o_O

Hunting the most dangerous game.

You focus this year on discovering the true cause of your father's death. Amber, Ruby and your royal guard accompany you to the woods where Ruby has already conducted a preliminary investigation. Signs of struggle have been hidden from mundane eyes, but Ruby uncovers them all the same.

Bullets lodged deep inside trees while their corresponding casings have been cleaned up. Vegetation that has been cut away or moved. Chipped bark from trees has been glued on or painted over. A forest floor that has been swept clean of footprints.

A secretive group fought here. It must be large enough for the manpower required to clean a forest, and professional and organized enough to cover their tracks so well. They also must have agents within your government to attempt a cover up.

The Hunting Lodge is another matter. The furniture inside has been stripped out and the floors cleaned meticulously and bleached.

The Lake beside the Lodge has had divers pull out a dozen bodies. 11 men and 1 woman. Weighted down with stones and sunk underneath it's waters. Identification has been removed from their bodies but they are still fresh enough for basic forensics. 5 are identified as members of your fathers personal guard. 1 unknown man of British origin. 5 unknown men of eastern European descent. The woman is of Mediterranean descent. The men are riddled with bullets and the woman appears to have died of strangulation.

Clearly your Father was murdered and the murderers have attempted to cover it up.

Ok, we definitely need to raise the opinion of our upper class before they decide to assassinate us too.

Huh, Daddy was murdered.

That sounds like a lot of firepower and I don't believe that was a normal assasination.
That would have been easier with some crazy proxy asylum inmate with a gun, or poison.

Was that some kind of secret meeting gone awry? And was our father just collateral damage or the target?
And last but not least what did he with Brits, Easterneuropeans and that woman?

I agree we must raise the opinion of our upper class.

Is it bad that I kind of hate our father?

University was one of the possible sources of upper class opinion(and the earlier we get it going the more of our geniuses we can retain), and now that our diplomat is in shape again we can schmooze a bit. I'd prefer 4 at least for safety. Higher isn't feasible without running our wealth to ruin.

Quality first, before improving quantity. Nobody to fight yet anyway, so improving their training doesn't increase upkeep.

Hello Madrid

Limited time offer to turn money into moneymaking territory! And it improves general opinions too! The other main target isn't as useful when we have hardly any army to send.

This pays for itself, and increases our population. Which means more taxable persons and more draftable persons.

Can't do much without a professional spymaster. Success rates are basically a tossup.

Throw a party and get a wife so we can use her bonuses to stats too.

@veekie

EDIT: apparently this ate my post. Will re-write it in a sec

I favor going for the germany option over the spanish one. We have no navy, and as such cannot access and defend our colony. We would lose it in short order, while potentially drawing the attention of much greater powers. On the other hand we need to get Germany and France on our good side so that we don't get invaded, so may as well go for the Germany options while we get an additional bonus.

If it comes to war, yes, at present, it's a badly needed opinion bonus and influx of resources and income. We're an Oil specialist with no oil production.

We also have a corporate branch with dodgy R&D projects. Unless the world is a lot more at war than I thought we're fine for a decade or so.

What would you like to double down on?

I'm a bit concerned that 2 houses decreases absolutism of the government. It means we'll actually have to deal with other people's opinions and interests.

Also on the travelers option The Travelers, Move it along is better, it's 50k instead of 25k net since you don't have to pay alms. Gypsy immigration isn't likely to be that major or beneficial. They aren't really known for being contributors to society in general.

Intrigue is a pretty tricky one since I expect many of those are going to get harder as time goes on.

I tend to agree with taking advantage of the falling Spanish empire since that's a good opportunity to increase our land which we likely won't have many opportunities to do for a long time.

Heh. Double down on which ever one gives us the most income from sucess (i can't hold the numbers in my head well enough to compare them, so, a propper vote's a bit hard) as we seem to have a bit of a deficit...
