Esper Quest (Toaru/???)

[X] Plasma Flower.

You turn your attention to the thing.

From its behaviour earlier, it appears to retaliate towards whatever harmed it, but it loses interest - or attention - quickly afterwards if it isn't attacked later on. In addition, if its disoriented, it's unable to do anything at all until it starts regenerating. You'll need to damage it greatly for that to happen, however.

You groan mentally. You're going to have to lie down after this.

Just as the Railgun - Misaka - is about to unleash an arc of lightning, you create a gigantic Flower, the biggest you've created until now. It unfolds once, twice, thrice, and on the fourth, it screams, the vacuum created by the air being propelled forward sucking air through the petals of the flower.

The AIM Burst is swatted back to the highway, its flesh disintegrating. Even as you watch, it's regenerating, the flesh rebuilding at a rate that exceeds the damage your Flower can do at that distance.

You dismiss the Flower, ignoring the sharp pain in your head as you encase yourself in armor and fly up to get a better vantage. The thing is already recovering, however, and you're forced to deflect a hail of crystals. One of them bounces off your armor and sends you spinning. But that doesn't matter, because you're already in range.

One Flower propels the AIM Burst upwards, though it doesn't burn the flesh - the thing has a barrier of sorts around it now. Troublesome, but not that it matters. Six Flowers form around it, facing inwards, forming a cube. They unfold, petals folding back into the center, new ones emerging from the front.

One.

Two.

Three.

Four.

The Flowers unleash their power, six gigantic Flowers projecting heat and kinetic energy towards a single point. The field the AIM Burst uses to defend itself collapses after a few seconds, and all of its flesh burns away in less than a second as the Flowers compress it towards a single point, a miniature sun coming into being as the air within turns to plasma. The wind howls around you as all the nearby air is sucked into the cube of Flowers, overturning wreckage and sucking in those nearest-

Your eyes widen as you thrust a hand out of habit, barriers forming around Kiyama and the Anti-Skills. And the Railgun-

The Railgun is clinging to the side of a wall of the nuclear plant, apparently using... electromagnetism to keep herself from flying towards the six Flowers. At least, you think it's electromagnetism.

Satisfied that no one is in danger, you turn your attention back towards the six Flowers, wincing as another spike of pain exacerbates your headache. By now, the ball of plasma inside is as large as a small house. Pieces of wreckage are instantly melted as they enter the plasma; you can literally see them vaporising as they touch the ball.

You don't know how long you keep it up for, only that every time the ball of plasma grows large enough to almost touch the Flowers, you increase their power, compressing the plasma even further. Each time you do that, your intense headache gets even more painful, until you're no longer flying, just kneeling on the ground in a force field as you hold your head, increasing the power every once in a while.

Then someone shatters into pieces the force field you're in, grabbing you when you're almost blown away. The Railgun. She's saying something, but you can't hear her over the wind. But the way she's pointing at the Flowers... It's done? You can stop now?

Breathing a sigh of relief, you dismiss the Flower on top and the Flowers on the other side of you and the others.

The plasma ball disintegrates, becoming a solid pillar of light that splits off into streams that fly off into the sky after a distance, brilliant lines that distort the sky wherever they go. One stream touches the ground where the highway section that was thrown at you fell, vaporizing it immediately, carving a trench hundreds of meters long. The sheer heat from the plasma, even at this distance, sears you; you instinctively put up a force field between you, Kiyama, the Anti-Skills and the plasma, shielding you from the worst of it.

You stare at the plasma until all that is left is a blue sky and disturbed clouds.

[] Try to stay awake.
[] Fall unconscious.

Told you that would be awesome.

[X] Try to stay awake.

Every time I read the description for the Flower attack, especially the Plasma Flower, I can't help but think of Rebuild!Ramiel.

... Actually, that's where I got the inspiration from.

I do believe Minoru is now 100% absolutely guaranteed to be uprated to Level 5. I mean just the Flower alone would probably be enough to uprate him, not to mention the Plasma Flower, but the Flower Cube Of DOOM! With it's ever increasingly dense plasma sphere makes it a certainty.

Why did you get rid of the small text? I thought it served as a nice visual representation of how out of it Minoru was with his crushing headache and such.

The small text was a formatting error.

EDIT: I'll try to see if putting it back in enhances the update, though.
EDIT2: Nope, I don't see the effect; restoring it to normal. Apologies if you thought that it was really better with the small text.

I have yet to understand what kind of bonus we received from the dream sequence....

All three, and their sub-options, would have yielded different special abilities (Minoru gained Blossoming Flower). Broadly speaking, choosing the ocean would have gotten something that aided in whatever achieving the goal defined; you would have achieved a unique permutation of your true esper ability. Choosing the chair would have yielded ways to simply amplify and boost Minoru's proficiency and even power; it may have as a requirement a specific mindset or you might have even gained the ability to utilise your unique physiology without needing self-mutilation.

Why do people think that falling unconscious will give us another power-up? Especially after we just utterly owned a monster that Level 5 Misaka had trouble with?

Far more likely we just miss stuff.

Now that the fights over; for those of you who haven't watched Railgun (I seriously recommend doing so, it's awesome) here's the battle in canon:

It skips a bit because whoever posted it edited out most the dialogue/non-fighting scenes (This fight was spread over the entire Episode 12).

Huh. I wonder why. Sucks because it's the only video I found on youtube with the entire fight, yours only shows the last 3 minutes (admittedly the most epic 3 minutes of the fight) which doesn't show how the AIM Burst just regenerated from everything.
