CRACKED PRISM
Telling someone the Crystal Empire's political divisions were massive would be an "obvious understatement", one of the few things that could be agreed on by many of the empire's subjects. The causes of the Empire's problems varied, but the largest of them to a sizable minority was Equestrian dominance.
Despite, or possibly due to the much weaker industrial state of the Empire, several Equestrian companies began to set up shop in the Crystal Empire. Now, they have an effective monopoly in the region, much to the irritation of local businessmen and companies within the Empire's borders. Naturally, the factories share similar conditions to their Equestrian counterparts, garnering the ire of the workers.
Several Equestrians even hold high places in government, which manages to unite some complaints of the workers and the aristocracy, if for different reasons. The lower classes claim that the Equestrian officials are biased towards their own people, and the aristocracy believe that they should be in those posts.
The final, yet most stabbing issue to several is that their queen herself is an equestrian.
The Empire, originally an independent state set up to be free from Equestria is, in the words of many political figures on all sides of the line, a puppet state in all but name.
Though a majority are tolerant of the current regime, several far left, far right, and even a few harmonious elements are anti-equestrian, though the scope of how anti equestrian they are varies.
The communists call for a society akin to Stalliongrad's own, free of the shackles of Equestria, and free of the monarchy. However they are divided similar to Stalliongrad's own factionalism, and talks between differing communist cells tend to end in angry ideological discussions.
The Harmonists are divided. Though a large majority remain tolerant of the regime, others call for a constitutional monarchy, using the absolutionism of Sombra's past regime as an example of why the monarchy should not have such power.
A thin fringe movement even call for a transition to a full democracy, but this movement is largely looked on with derision and outside of a few student leaders, has little traction.
Finally are the far right elements. Monarchists loyal to an older crown and newer elements taking pages from Beakaloni's fascist writings, their loyalty lies to a strongman. Sombra, the old ruler of the Crystal Empire and one of, if not the most powerful unicorns on the planet, is not yet gone from their memory. Taught of in storybooks and historical archives, Sombra was a king who led his people to greatness.
He also murdered his opposition, enslaved thousands, and made those who still resisted wish they could die, but his supporters claim those were needed excesses in such primitive times, and note that his staunch anti-Equestrian policies kept the Empire from becoming what it currently is today.
However, much to the embarrassment of the Captain of the Guard, Sombra Supporters are even in the capital. Hidden cloaked monarchists whisper of plans to bring back their glorious leader, while fascists march in the streets, protesting and occasionally getting into street skirmishes with communists.
Yet, despite all of the Crystal Empire's boiling tensions and problems, they're preparing to host the Friendship Games and hopefully show their best side to the world. Security has been doubled, and the Games are receiving a huge amount of funds to make sure they're as lavish as can be.
Hopefully all goes well.
(I'll put up a number sheet and actions in next post.)
