I've hardly done that, you have loads of choices because I believe player agency, like I allow yoy you to do bad decisions if you want to.
At the same time your choices have mattered, the entire reason the Empire is fighting back better than the original invasion (Where they lost some 160-180k troops within six months) is because you're making better choices.
At the same would you prefer I abandon any realistic bonuses to armies and empires and literally make it a dice roll? Right now it's a varying amount of factors - quality of leadership, morale, quality of troops, terrain, defender's benefit, character based behaviour and a load of other factors that make each roll tilted towards the likely outcome you all just have some crap rolls. I mean the entire point of wieghted rolls is to show that history had luck as a factor.
I'm not trying to end the quest but if the rolls are literally below 50 constantly without relief I can't do much. On the other things are hardly as bad as Lags put it.
It is physically impossible for the Arabs to get you to game over soon unless they capture Egypt, North Africa, Italy AND Constantinople. (Impossible with the wieghted rolls)
Do you want it to end?
Dont end the quest! I think we can pull it off!
@Everyone how many men do you think the Caliph has? How many reinforcements do you think they have? That northern army was supposed to swing south. Now? Now they are bogged down in fighting in Armenia. Elephants in the mountains. They are learning the hard way why that isnt the best idea.
He has no reinforcements. This is the last army they can raise. While our performance is middling at best, and we have not decisively defeated them, neither have we lost.
Every day, we recover. Every day, more provinces come on line. If we need to, we can raise more Meroii. We recovered to the point that we can keep recruiting. The Caliph? This is all that there was for him to raise. After this there literally wont be anyone of fighting age left in the region. The Sassanids were tapped out, and Sassan troops make up like 2/3rds of his forces.
We havent lost. And until WE lose, until we are defeated, he has not won. Because we can keep up this slugging match longer than he can. He is invading
us. We have the defenders advantage. How many men can the Caliph afford to lose, while holding on to the gains he has made? He has no one left to raise back home, he only has what he brought with him.
We wont lose until our fighting spirit is broken. Even if he takes Aegyptus, there is no guarantee that he will actually be able to hold on to Aegyptus. It will hurt, but the rest of the Empire is recovering as well. While we certainly cant keep this up forever and ever, I bet my boots we can keep it up longer than he can.
