Eevee Therapy for Little Magi (Pokemon x F/SN)

I'm not sure if this is correct, but I find it weird how easily Illya let go of the whole thing, a big part of her problems come from older people telling her what's best for her, with Jubstacheit basically doing this all of her life. I don't feel like she would have let go of the matter as easily.

I think a big part of that is that Shirou went along with it
Also she probably hasn't actually let go of it. Just accepted, like with the adults, that for now there is nothing further she can do about it. Mespirt, I assume, is fully aware of this and is hoping to work with Illya enough to get her to actually let it go. Eventually.

So has no one else besides me played the new pokemon snap game, or did everyone just forget, because I'm pretty sure that's what the author is referencing with the tree of life. Might be wrong about that though, not 100%, it's just the only other one I can think of.

Also, while I first want to say that I liked how the author did the test, because the flaws were obvious and it genuinely feels like a test someone who has seen too much death do to stupidity and wanted to nip it in the bud quickly before looking into it all the way might create, and i think we need to drop all the complaints about it. I do want to make a joke that's been stuck in my head since I read how someone reacted.
It doesn't teach self preservation, it teaches escalation.
All I thought when I read this was "Do you want Khepris, because this is how you get Khepris!" All hail the new king of escalation.

Super Mystery Dungeon's tree? That's the only thing I could think of.
Correct. The Tree of Life being references here is the Tree from PSMD. The hows and whys of why PMD exists alongside the anime may or may not actually come up in the fic, but we included it in the exposition dump because I do intend to have the Illya/Shirou duo actually come across some helpful lore about fallers and mystery gifts that will let them develop their gifts further, left behind by the mentioned PMD protags.

Wonder what everyone will think once they find out the Tree of Life got infected with bad vibes which tried to throw the Tree into the Sun.
Even for Pokemon that was a bit odd.

Personally I was more thrown by the final boss not being a pokemon and being a cakewalk though I will also admit I loved that repeat of the whole 2nd movie the world is ending so pokemon from all over migrate and pitch in on the off chance they can help in even the slightest way thing.

Yeah... I hated everything Akari related these past two chapters, and that calm mind thing to completely bypass any of the rightful reaction ilya would have had in exchange for pushing things forward, along with randomly having legendaries pop up to be an (ineffective) morality pet seems like a copout.

Was waiting to see how Ilya was handled after the previous chapter, was disappointed, won't be reading anymore.

Hope the rest of the story goes well.

While it is unfortunate that you won't be sticking around, we can't please everyone.

Mind, it should be noted that Calm Mind doesn't really have a brainwashing component. All it did was heighten Illya's mental acuity and give her the opportunity to analyze the event rationally. If we were going to be doing brainwashing shenanigans, I and Tale would have both used Hypnosis for it, and other parties would have immediately gotten violent.

The specifics of the nonconsensual mental alteration change the effects of what happened, but don't change that it was a shitty thing to do.

More or less shitty than getting arrested for assaulting someone in a Pokemon center? Because that's what would have happened to Illya.

Now, it wouldn't go to incarceration or anything (Akari wouldn't press charges, and I don't believe Misora would) but that would be a serious black mark, perhaps enough to end her League aspirations for a few years. Pokemon Centers are safe havens; only the lowest of the low violate what are, in essence, universally recognized places of rest and healing. Akari moved to keep Illya from perfoming, in anger, something which would have gotten her arrested. Is Akari at fault for that anger? Yes, and if Illya had called the Jennies, they would've slapped some major sanctions on the Heroine, if not requested strongly that she leave Sinnoh for a few years. (Kinda hard to enforce the law on a literal divine ambassador, but Akari would comply.)

Akari took the quickest method she's used for centuries to keep the situation from escalating. It's skeevy, but it doesn't hurt anyone and kept things from getting worse. Also, habit after 400 years of being Arceus' woman on the ground.

Again, Akari messed up. And she's going to be paying for this. In fact, one of the major reasons Illya is willing to suspend judgment is because Illya was promised payment; as a Fae-minded individual and a trained Magus, she understands and respects Danegeld on an instinctive level. Akari will be compensating Illya for her attack on Illya's family, and if not, that's what proper curses are for.

Well, in that case... I hope Akari learns enough to tailor her payment to something truly important to Ilya. Something that can keep Shirou safe(r), most likely.

Hmm, considering that Akari was told to keep the eggs for a 'child of flame' and a 'child of ice', where she recognized Shirou as the first earlier but only just recognized Illya as the second just now, do we have a pair of Kantoian and Alolan Vulpix eggs on our hands?

This is all well and good but:

Akari nodded, then headed for the door. "I still think this test was necessary… but I am sorry for how I executed it." She bent her head. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to get chewed out by three ancient beings, and then possibly their grandfather." With her piece said, she headed out through the doors.

I want to see this happening "on-screen" as it were. You can't buy your way out of an ass-chewing, and seeing someone with an actual Omniscient Morality License tell Akari "Hey. Not cool." will go a long way for a lot of people here, I think.

Correct! Good guess, honestly.

Sure. I'm happy to write that as a Sidestory, and honestly, Tale probably is too.

"Right. Give me a second to mentally compile everything I know about an ancient civilization whose records are so fragmented that I can barely make them out," Mana grumped, frowning as she pulled out her trainer's phone and unlocked it, browsing through something before her eyes lit up, "Right. So, how familiar are you with the Bedtime Stories about Teams of Red and Blue, Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky, Tales of the Gates, or the Tales of Life and Darkness?"
"Right. I'm not all that surprised by. Sinnoh has the Time, Sky, and Darkness preserved the best, and the Lucario Kingdom remembers all the legends." Mana nodded, turning her attention away from the phone floating in front of her to look at her fellow gifts, "So far as I can tell, those legends are one hundred percent true. They're also the only instances we have of a human faller becoming a Pokemon," Mana remarked as if she hadn't just said something most scientists thought impossible. "It's a common theme that all of them share. One human-turned Pokemon. One native. Two friends or lovers standing against a calamity that threatens the world."
Huh, I wonder what changed for Gates To Infinity?

If I remember correctly, the Voice of Life in GTI had actually pulled in a good number of people in order to try and save the world. All the lights you see floating up into the sky at some points are later revealed to have been humans-turned-pokemon who got hunted down and murdered by that games Kyurem. I wonder how things might have gone differently for this world's version of GTI?

It's possible, even likely, the stories don't recall all the people Kyurem murdered, or perhaps they even mention attempted heros, but no one remembers they were once human.

We know that turning a human into a pokemon is entirely within the realm of possibility no matter how much it goes against the regular logic of the world. And, well, people tend not to remember the stories of the failed heros before the successful one.

? Makes sense. Arceus -> Mew -> Creation Trio -> Mesprit
Also the Creation Trio were almost definitely before Mew in the creation order considering what they are and how important they are to have the backbone to life.

Edit: Copypasted from Bulbapedia, apparently what the plates say are determined by the order they're obtained in rather than what the plates are themselves.
  • "When the universe was created, its shards became this Plate."
  • "The power of defeated giants infuses this Plate."
  • "Two beings of time and space set free from the Original One."
  • "Three beings were born to bind time and space."
  • "Two make matter and three make spirit, shaping the world."
  • "The Original One breathed alone before the universe came."
  • "The powers of Plates are shared among Pokémon."
  • "The rightful bearer of a Plate draws from the Plate it holds."

The three beings born to bind time and space are pretty clearly Mesprit, Azelf, and Uxie, as confirmed by the line afterwards being "two make matter and three make spirit, shaping the world". Again, the 3 making spirit are the Lake Guardians.
