Not so much that, as I suddenly realized that there's quite a difference in what you will encounter depending on what you pick, and I can't write a proper reply without you picking

Jaden Year 1 Summer Route 121 - 2
Jaden doesn't stay on the path where everyone goes. No, he pushes further than that. He walks right off the path with Sam to where the really wild pokemon live. He's not going to play it safe and stay close, hoping for a pokemon to choose him. No, he's going to go out and seek for a pokemon! His charmander is absolutely thrilled to go along with this, pouncing on everything that has the slightest sway of movement to it. So far he has defeated several swaths of grass and been beat by a rock.

It feels daring, to cross the line past what he knows is "safe" to where things are truly wild. Even better, he hasn't felt even the slightest hint of a headache promising a later migraine. Most of the noise he's so used to in the city has faded away to quiet murmurs. The new weight he's adjusted to seems to take note of this and press down, asking to be let closer.

[ ]Continue to keep distance

There was supposed to be a lot of oddish and roselias in the area. Grass pokemon are really hard to find though. They blend in really well with the actual plants. Jaden only realized Sam had found a budew after the bulb that Sam had decided to pounce on had gotten up to start running. Sam had been quick to chase after it before it managed to vanish back into the grass. Jaden knew what to look for better now though, as he peered through and carefully kicked through the grass like Sam had been. He had success finding a clump of oddish that had all burrowed into a knoll nearby, and were not happy with a random human waking them up in the middle of the day.

This was where Jaden knew that it was time to shine as a trainer. He was ready for battle. "Sam! Ember!" He pointed forward grandly, every inch a general charging into battle. Sam growled and burst out his embers scattering them across the cluster of oddish. The oddish immediately responded by shaking themselves and releasing a thick cluster of purple spores. "Keep your distance Sam! It's poisonous!" Sam growled acknowledgement. His tail lashed behind him as he stayed locked on the cluster, eager for the hunt. Jaden could taste the thrill of battle on his tongue. He hadn't thought he would be fighting a group. He thought it would be one on one! This was amazing!

Sam circled around the oddish and tried to get in. A pair of oddish repelled him by spraying acid. He spat ember at them again and kept circling. Truthfully that was most of the battle. Sam couldn't get in close, and the oddish couldn't run. Sam took some hits from the acid when he wasn't quick enough despite Jaden's cheers and calls, and it took effort for Jaden to call Sam back when the young charmander was tempted to just charge in, but somehow they stayed on top. The oddish were brave, and fought hard, but they were no match for Jaden and Sam in the end. Even if fighting five of them together left Sam with several shallow burns from the acid and panting.

Lee Year 1 Summer Route 113 - 4
The zangoose focused hard on the human and his feathered companion that had interrupted his meal. He wasn't too disgruntled by this turn of events, as he was curious about humans. What he had heard of them seemed to be true, as the human kept a respectful distance from him before beginning to talk to him. The zangoose looked at the winged pokemon for help. The feathered pokemon was young, but he understood more of how humans talk, and explained that his human was looking for a zangoose. But apparently not this one. The human was insistent that he was looking for a zangoose, but his companion couldn't explain it more clearly than that. The zangoose did promise that he'd pass the word along. It would be slow, considering how zangoose did not tend to cross across territories once settled, but others would hear about the human looking for a zangoose.

Archer was very pleased with his success in helping his human with the wild zangoose and hooted his pleasure before cheerfully nipping Lee's ear. He had done it! He had successfully passed on the message! And his human understood, and rewarded him with scritches on his head before they went on to look for more interesting things to do. Like investigating the place where ash fell from the sky. It had gently coated an area, leaving it all with a sooty grey coating that somehow turned into nothing but stains of color if touched. Archer was very pleased to investigate this fact thoroughly, at least until he realized that it had coated his wings so thoroughly he couldn't shake it off to fly properly.

[ ]Wash Archer with water
[ ]Use preening oils to help wash Archer
[ ]Let Archer figure it out himself

Archer was thrilled when Lee decided to teach something new to him. He seemed very focused on giving Archer a way to attack when flying. Or something that was connected to flying. It wasn't leafage, Lee wasn't satisfied when he used that. Lee actually did more research on his device that had shown Archer the zangoose picture before asking Archer to try buffeting things with his wings, or striking with his beak. Pecking things was a lot easier than trying to use his wings. At some point while striking things with his beak he must have started doing things right, as Lee got very excited and cheered him on. Encouraged Archer started striking even harder all over.

I like the exploring the local area for the moment, and I'm not worried about aggressively building a starting team yet.

Lee Hinsu remained torn. On the one hand, he felt a certain optimistic hope that locating the Zangoose might actually happen. On the other hand, he worried he might be getting his hopes up for nothing.

There was also the matter of time and travel. Might he wait around, possibly for nothing? If he continued onward, might he miss whatever possibility still remain?

Lee tried to find a happy medium, at least while he remained on the route, in the area. The word was out there, he had no idea how long it might take for the word to mean anything, so it was entirely possible that it might be the kind of thing that wouldn't see any form of fruition until such a time as Lee returned back this way again.

[X][Camp Actions] Look at what pokemon are near the path, open for human interaction
-[X] Venture a little bit off the path, but not too far. Close enough that you could still make it back to the path easily enough if needed.
-[X] Try to find a happy medium travel speed for now, slow enough that it might remain possible for word to get back to Lee about the Zangoose he's looking for, but fast enough that he can still make some form of progress
[X][Camp Actions] Stargaze

"Oh dear." Lee said at Archer's predicament. He gambled on taking a measured approach, seeing if Archer could figure out how to fix the problem on his own, reasoning that it might serve as a small measure of training and learning opportunity for the bird. It hurt him just a little to not intervene immediately, but he hoped that the short term difficulty might provide stronger long-term gain.

[X][Soot] See if Archer can figure it out himself
-[X] If it becomes clear that Archer needs help, use preening oils to help wash Archer

Successfully teaching Archer Peck felt like a minor milestone. The bird knew some basic combat maneuvers, the bird now knew a flying move in addition to a grass move. For the first time, Lee was feeling genuine confident about actually battling a pokemon or two. Especially if he could find a good potential candidate to capture and add to his team. Maybe even if he crossed paths with another rookie trainer.

For the moment, he elected to temporarily pause the practical side of training and take some time to just enjoy the success achieved thus far.

Jaden Year 1 Summer Route 121 - 3
When Jaden finally lets the weight settle in his mind, he finds it doesn't act as a weight at all, but a warm blanket that helps quiet the world. And in it he can feel the warmth and adoration of his charmander. He isn't sure how he knows that it's Sam, but it is. Sam perks up as he finally is let close and twirls around before pressing against Jaden. Finally they're fully bonded. And it will only strengthen from here.

Jaden left the oddish alone once they had defeated them. The thrill of victory was enough. And Jaden had a lot more he could sense and wanted to do now. Sam's presence was warm and loud in his mind, and somehow was acting as a barrier to the rest of the world. For once Jaden didn't feel a need for quiet. He felt like he could actually explore the different things that he felt and experienced. And he was going to do it too.

Jaden's exploration out here was a bit clumsy. Despite having always having the noise in his mind, he had never actually done anything but do his best to shut it out. Listening to it and trying to solve it was far more difficult. Sam's presence certainly helped. If he had known that bonding with Sam this way would have helped he would have done it much sooner. But for now he had a lot to try and figure out.

There was a wavering presence around the meadows that was fascinating. Whenever he caught it he wanted to chase after it. It was almost musical in a way, yet utterly alien to what he was used to. He was convinced it was a powerful pokemon of some kind. What else could appear and disappear so easily around here yet feel so strong?

[ ]Pursue the presence
[ ]Leave it be

Jaden and Sam got really lucky in their exploration and found a rawst berry bush. Jaden was quick to harvest some. Sam was originally interested until he tasted one, then promptly set it on fire. They found a persim berry bush later that Sam was more willing to tolerate, even if it was clear that he still wasn't highly impressed with the flavor. He did seem to enjoy roasting the berries with his flames before chomping them down at least.

Gain 10 Rawst Berries
Gain 6 Persim Berries

They found a zigzagoon digging up some roots to eat a while later. Jaden could feel that it was the source of one of the noises he'd been tracking and watched in delight as it zigged around aggressively and puffed itself up to challenge them to try and drive it off.

[ ]Fight the zigzagoon
[ ]Try to befriend the zigzagoon
[ ]Leave it alone

Jaden stayed way too late looking around for a pokemon he thought would be cool enough to add to his team. He did see a couple more oddishes, and avoided tripping over a budew, but nothing really cool. He glanced up to find that it was getting dark, and illumise and volbeats were coming out. The bug pokemon gave a soft light to the meadow as they buzzed around. A couple even came over to challenge the strangers in their land.

[ ]Just watch
[ ]Try and hurry back to the main path

Sam was absolutely delighted to be out in the meadow, getting to pounce and run and play. Every time he found something even slightly interesting he had to go and check it out. Jaden was more than happy to indulge Sam, especially when he found out that the cheeky little dragon would happily pretend that he hadn't messed up if he tripped or failed at one of his hunts. Challenging Sam to race him across the meadows was quite honestly one of Jaden's current favorite things to do. One day Sam would outspeed him, but for now he could run right beside his pokemon.

At night Jaden had some sparklers that he brought out to show Sam. The charmander was almost beside himself when Jaden showed that he could create a flame to hold for himself. Jaden showed how he could create shapes and almost pictures with the trails of light after the sparkler. Sam was quick to try and join in, puffing out gentle flames and waving his tail around to create pictures right beside Jaden. The charmander was quick to become obsessed with getting Jaden to light up the sparklers. They could play with fire together.

Not really expecting you to try and catch any of the pokemon, just keeping the generic list of what activities outside of what you come up with in the area available. Also will want you to consider how far you want to push your psychic abilities. You won't gain physical ability to keep up with your pokemon, but depending on how far certain opportunities open up

Lee Year 1 Summer Route 113 - 5
Archer is clever and wise and quick. He is not, however, used to dealing with these difficulties. As rowlets go he is still fairly young, and hadn't truly had the opportunity to get himself into big messes he would have to clean out for himself. He was eager to rise to the occasion however, and did his best to start working through the ash.

Alas, he had bigger dreams than capability. It was a very good thing that his human stepped in to help him. Archer could follow along as Lee gently worked the ash loose and preened his feathers, letting him mimic it to help clear the ash himself. It was so much more thorough than he was used to having be necessary, even with Lee being a touch clumsy when he started. Archer had not liked that part. But he was cleaned of the ash, and Archer would be able to do this alone in the future. He puffed up proudly and showed off his newly shiny feathers to Lee.

Being with his human really was the best. He loved the travel, and spending time watching the stars together at night. Even better, his human was clever, and would invent little puzzles with levers and pegs for him to play with. They even had a game they did together where they put different colored pegs in a box, and whoever got their pegs in a line won. Archer really enjoyed that one, getting to compete against his human. Archer was always proud to show off when he solved a puzzle to his human. He was getting quick at figuring them out. And his human was starting to come up with more puzzles where they played together. Some of them were more tricky than others. Humans had to have entire worlds in their head with the way they played.

They saw a couple more zangoose as they traveled, ones that came to look at him and his human, but while Lee was polite to each one, there was also a thread that this isn't what he had been hoping for. He still hadn't found his zangoose. And then they reached a place where the mountains and cliffs grew even steeper, and there was a change in the path.

Something about the moment - reaching that point in Lee Hinsu's journey, this intersection - it felt far more significant than it appeared on the surface. Like everything up to that point had been a prelude of sorts, and only now was his journey truly about to begin.

It was a big decision, where to go from here. It also struck Lee as rather significant that Archer was still the only pokemon he had. Not in a good way, either. Here he was supposed to be on some kind of Pokemon journey, and thus far he really hadn't done much of the activities he thought were normally associated with a Pokemon journey. He hadn't caught any pokemon, he hadn't battled any pokemon, he really hadn't crossed path with anyone other than wild pokemon, all of which had been content to let him be.

It occurred to him that perhaps he'd been approaching things from the wrong angle. Another element he considered was typically associated with a Pokemon journey was just catching first and asking questions later. For another trainer taking that approach, it would have been fine, such a trainer could have had two, three, perhaps even four additional pokemon by now.

But if Lee was taking a more dedicated approach, instead of waiting and seeing what pokemon crossed his path and trying to find just the right pokemon to add to his team, then he needed a different mindset than the normal trainer.

Seeing as he was leaving open the possibility that the Zangoose might yet catch up with him - however slim those odds might be - Lee set up a temporary camp while he tried to do some research to figure out the best direction to go next.

[X] Try to use Pokedex to research what Pokemon could be found in each of the potential areas - Route 111, 112, 113 (and maybe Mt. Chimney too, I guess?)

The pokedex did indeed hold a plethora of information about the pokemon that lived surrounding the routes that he wanted to investigate. There was a fair amount to sort through, covering mountainous terrain to pokemon migration to favored breeding grounds. Figuring out from there what pokemon generally lived there was simple, if hard work involving a lot of listing. Some of the pokemon were rare to find near the paths, preferring living further in the wilds and only choosing to join humans that came out to seek them.

Jaden Update Part 1
Jaden crouched down and smiled at the zigzagoon. "Hello." Sam puffed himself up and crouched, ready to charge and attack the other pokemon, despite the zigzagoon being slightly bigger than him. Jaden reached over and placed a hand on Sam to help keep him calm. The zigzagoon chattered watching them. "We don't want to interrupt your meal. We just want to say hi." Jaden considered for a moment before digging out a bit of the pokemon chow he had for Sam and tossing a piece gently at the zigzagoon. The zigzagoon studied the offering for a moment before picking it up and nibbling away. It relaxed and looked back at them to chatter again, this time sounding much more friendly and curious.

Jaden leaned back and chatted softly to the zigzagoon about how he'd been exploring out here with Sam. There was a lot to see. Sam listened with some interest to Jaden's summary of their exploring, while the zigzagoon watched them both with curiosity. It decided to move closer, resulting in Sam straightening up and letting out a growl. This was his human! His! Not the zigzagoon's! The zigzagoon growled back grumpily. It just wanted to say hi! The human was interesting! Sam arched up and rubbed his head under Jaden's chin. Yes, Jaden was interesting. He was the best human there was. He understood things. And he was Sam's!

The zigzagoon complained at Sam for a time before settling down again leaving Jaden with a lapful of charmander and a zigzagoon that was fully willing to tease him. The pair went back and forth for a while, mischief sparkling off the zigzagoon as it teased Sam while Sam half playfully and half defiantly defended Jaden valiantly from the possible interloper. Eventually it was time to move on.

[ ]Catch the zigzagoon

Jaden is bold and eager, not foolish. He got up and started hurrying back to the main path so he could head back to Lilycove. He wasn't going to face a possibly territorial swarm off the path. At least not without picking up some antidotes first. Time to go shopping!

Jaden made sure to buy plenty of items at the shop, checking over his supplies, before he returned out to the path. He still had a presence to track down after all.

Researching the Pokemon of the surrounding areas was very much a learning experience. Far more a learning experience than Lee had expected. There were far more Pokemon to be found in the surrounding areas than he'd expected, with a great many surprises to be found - both in what did live nearly, and in what didn't. He also noticed a great deal of overlap, far more than he'd anticipated.

There was also a great deal of overlap. In short, there wasn't much he'd be missing out on by continuing on his way. A couple possibilities, perhaps, but they either didn't speak to Lee strongly enough, or were clearly bad options to try chasing with only a single Pokemon at his disposal that hadn't even been in a single real battle yet.

Neither did making for Mt. Chimney hold a strong enough appeal. Maybe if he was desperate to catch a Vulpix, perhaps? But even that was a questionable decision at the moment, if he did want one they'd be available again once he reached the desert.

So Lee finally set out, leaving the route behind as he went South to Route 111, the desert beyond, and eventually the first new town of his journey.

Jaden wasn't sure what kind of a team he might try to create. His head was filled with flashy teams of the gyms and elite four, but he also didn't like the idea of collections Pokemon and then leaving them stored in stasis on a PC. He wasn't trying to build up a Pokedex or catch them all. He wanted to enjoy adventures with a team.

Jaden Update Part 2
Jaden looked at the zigzagoon, and asked if he would like to come with them. The zigzagoon brightened up. When the pokeball shook upon hitting the zigzagoon, it was much more because the zigzagoon was too excited to stay still and relaxed in the ball than any attempt to escape. He was proud to follow along on their adventure.

Jaden spends days chasing after the weird presence in the meadows. He always makes sure to clear out before night, and keeps his pokemon out with him as he explores. He's off the paths after all, where pokemon can and will take human as prey. He's been lucky, able to sense pokemon that are on the hunt to move around them. He doesn't get how the presence keeps moving, and he really wants to figure it out. He is almost on top of it when he trips, and finds himself in a wild garden.

It's like some kind of hidden grotto. He has no idea how he didn't even get a glimpse of it as he chased after the presence. And the presence is here, multiplied and wrapped all around him. It seems it wasn't just one weird pokemon he was chasing. It was a group of them, all packed together. It's still strange and alien as he looks around at this garden of wild flowers and bushes that roselia and budew tend to. He can see marill and azumarill playing here, and a roserade speaks with a mawile. Another mawile grins as it approaches them, more than happy to investigate this group that's fallen into their home without invitation.

Jaden's zigzagoon knows the danger of entering the fairies' garden without permission from experience. He's curled up against Jaden and bristling with the need to defend. Sam only has his instincts, vague as they are, telling him that there's something here that's not quite what it seems to be. He looks around trying to figure out what he's supposed to be guarding against. Is it the kirlia that he sees vanish out of sight further into the garden? The budew that just burrowed itself into the ground? The mawile that smiles wide and invites them further in? Sam looks to Jaden for guidance.

Lee Year 1 Summer Route 111
It feels strange seeing the growth around the cliffs and plateaus and gullys lessen, changing to sharp desert growth that clings and digs in dry and sharp. Archer is delighted to explore this change in terrain, checking what's there. A seviper comes across them as they pass through hissing at them before it slithers off the path chasing its prey. It feels strange to pass through an area marked for humans to travel through and yet encounter more pokemon than anything else. A vibrava passes overhead as often as other flying pokemon do, content to ignore the human traversing so far below them.

Lee's started memorizing how the stars look above as he gazes up at them. Archer can't help but be excited when Lee begins looking up constellations to share with him, telling him about Arceus and Rayquaza. The story of the Champion emblazoned in a star cluster awes Archer. It's amazing to think of someone so grand they're immortalized in stars.

Lee's started searching again, but he's not seeking out zangoose this time. He does his best to try and track the vibrava that he sees, and looks into places that look like they'd be good for nests. So far a pack of electrikes and a manectric, a herd of lairons, a makuhita, and an ursaring have all very angrily chased them away. None of them were impressed by a human sticking his nose into their homes. It takes a couple weeks before he finally comes across a couple of trapinch tussling with each other.

Archer's human was very smart, and had a lot of ideas of what Archer could do. He also seemed to grasp what Archer leaned towards instinctively. He got that Archer didn't like things hitting his wings while in the air, and started teaching Archer ways to dive back by pretending to brush the edges of Archer's wings. It was never quite a touch, but it was enough to have Archer moving away and listening as his human explained. This wasn't as easy as learning to peck, or increasing his agility in the air. He was dodging with purpose, and from the way Lee watched him Archer knew that this was only going to grow more complicated. The rowlet was eager to rise up to the challenge though, and pushed himself every step of the way. He would get this down, even if it was harder to learn than what came before.

It had been a while since Lee Hinsu had seen another human being. Maybe it was just because he hadn't quite stuck to the trails, passing by any potential interaction he might have had, but it struck him as odd that the paths he did take were so devoid of human activity. All other things aside, it would be nice to actually see another person again.

[X][Camp Action] Visit the ranger station here, it would be nice to not camp for a night, see another human for the first time in weeks, maybe get a tour

With Archer's defensive skills honed a bit more, Lee returned to training his pokemon's offensive skills. He took to training Archer in a variant of his Leafage skill that he had an idea for. Not a replacement, but an alternate application. Perhaps, in certain situations, the attack could make the most of its multiple leaves by sacrificing how much it might damage a single target, but in exchange covering a wider area, which would in turn allow either multiple targets to be hit or making it more difficult for an opponent to evade the attack entirely.

[X][Pokemon Action] Train Archer in Battle
-[X] Train Leafage - Develop technique for using attack in a spread*, either hitting multiple targets or increasing possibility of hitting difficult target but at likely sacrifice of overall damage.

*OOC: Kind of like firing a Shotgun

Of the Pokemon available in the area, Trapinch struck Lee as his best option if he had genuine plans of catching a second Pokemon in the foreseeable future. It was a species that Archer would have the advantage against, it would provide valuable coverage for Archer's weaknesses in the short term, it was the start of a respectable evolution line in the long term, and it might even one day serve as a possible mount for getting around once fully grown.

That presumed that Lee could actually find one. Which, for a time, was a genuine question. It served a far more difficult challenge than expected, to the point where he questioned if it was more trouble than he was willing to handle and should settle for something else. Yet all the Pokemon he found in the meantime were either not something he'd be happy acquiring or beyond any challenge he was prepared to tackle.

Lee was just about ready to give up on his Trapinch hunt when at last he found not just one, but two.

"Finally." Lee whispered with relief.

"Archer, it's time to put that training to the test." Lee said to his current lone Pokemon. He was itching to finally put their battle skills to the test, and he'd heard that wild Pokemon often appreciated such battles as a test of a potential trainer's skill as a goal toward growing stronger themselves. If the trainer could best the Pokemon in battle, then that made the trainer a valuable companion to travel with.

But mostly Lee hadn't had a single battle yet since setting out, which was far too long, and he was eager to have an actual Pokemon battle.

-[X]This was it, his first adventure. Jaden couldn't refuse to following the call of adventure! He'd been looking for ruins, but fairy gardens were possibly even cooler. He might end up a hundred years in the future, and then go back in time to before he was born to leave a letter to stop himself from going to the future. On second thought, that seemed unlikely, unless the letter had been lost in the post. Next time he'd be sure to send it certified mail to stop that from happening. The Mawile was pretty intimidating though. Maybe he'd try and see how friendly it was around others.
-[X]Share Rawst berries (=<5) with the various pokemon here, and only follow the Mawile if it seems nice.

Lee Year 1 Summer Route 111 Ranger Station
The pair of trapinch separated as Lee approached and declared his challenge. The trapinch took a moment to measure up the trainer and the rowlet he brought with him. Archer puffed up confidently. He could take these guys on, especially with what his human had been teaching him! The trapinch bobbed their heads in acceptance of the challenge and backed up to give room. For a moment everything was still. Archer fluttered forward to settle on a rock instead of Lee's shoulder. Then at some signal everyone understood without speaking, the battle began.

The trapinch were tough fellows, but they were uncoordinated. They would slam into each other and mess up each other's attacks, or force the other to stop. Perhaps if they were more experienced they would be able to take better advantage of another pokemon attacking at the same time, but it was clear that at this point the trapinch had been primarily solitary. It didn't help that Archer didn't move in expected ways, and was quick to respond to Lee's calls. As hardy as the two trapinch were it couldn't stand up to not only a type disadvantage, but a pokemon trainer with a solid knowledge of tactics and a pokemon that responded with ease to his trainer's calls. This may have been the first proper battle Archer had been in, but he shone with the potential he could one day grow into.

The battle was called, and the trapinch settled down and lowered their heads towards Lee. Only one of them would be caught and go with Lee. Their respect was earned, and they were eager to work under such a gifted human.

The ranger station set out here looked comfortable, overlooking the path between the desert and the mountain. There was a postboard outside it with notices about dangerous pokemon in the area, the importance of hydration, and current trainers registered as traveling through the area at eight. An older woman answered the door when Lee knocked with a large manectric padding along behind her. The electric dog gave a questioning woof and tried to push past to get to Lee and his pokemon. Archer shifted slightly on Lee's shoulder while his trapinch sat and stared.

"Down Roger! Down!" She glanced at Lee and smiled at him. "Sorry about that. How can I help you? Do you want a room for the night?"

Lee was asking Archer to do something new again. Archer had a hard time understanding this one, as it went against his natural grain. Leafage was in a straight line, but Lee seemed to want him to zig zag it? Move around while doing it? Spread it out? Archer didn't want to disappoint his human. He put in a lot of time practicing, even when Lee wasn't watching him, to make sure he could get this down. The resulting move was more like a flurry of leaves caught in a gust that sliced what it reached, weaker than a normal version of Leafage, but he managed to get it down. All that effort had been worth it when Lee smiled at him with pride at the end.

Jaden Year 1 Summer Fairy Garden
Jaden was not running from this adventure. He immediately dug out some of the berries he had, offering them to the wild mawile. The mawile blinked at the gesture before accepting two of them and stuffing them in its mouth. It took a moment to measure the berries before nodding and smiling up at Jaden again. There was something different about the smile this time, not that Jaden could place quite what. He followed after as the mawile lead them all to where more mawiles, ralts, and kirlias were sitting together making flower crowns. Oliver stayed pressed close to Jaden and cautious while Sam contemplated if it would be worth it to eat the flowers. The mawile chattered something, and a wave of amusement came off the pokemon making the flower crowns as they turned to look at Jaden. One of them reached out to tug Jaden to sit down, the others beginning to crowd in. Sam didn't like that, tensing up and snapping at the pokemon as they got close. That didn't stop the pokemon, their amusement heightening at Sam's retort.

The whole of the battle against the Trapinch was a blur. Caught up in the rush of his first real battle, Lee could hardly even remember the details of what had happened when it was finally over.

It was only when Lee finally threw a Pokeball at one of the Trapinch that reality became genuinely tangible again. The sphere making impact, drawing in the beaten pokemon, then landing and briefly shaking before he heard a certain sound that confirmed capture.

For a moment, the world felt as it stopped as Lee realized that he'd actually done it. He'd caught the Trapinch.

"YEAH!" Lee cheered. "We did it!"

He rushed over to the Pokeball, then held it high triumphantly.

"We caught him!"

He brought the Pokeball back down again, then turned to Archer.

"Great work, Archer." Lee said, then he looked at the caught Trapinch's pokeball again as he tried to think what, if any, name to give it. One name eventually stood out, though why he couldn't put a finger on. But it felt right all the same.

[X][Trapinch] Name the Trapinch "Crunchbite"

In contrast to Archer, Lee mostly carried his newly capture Trapinch in its Pokeball. In the immediate, much of it was one part giving Crunchbite an opportunity to recover after getting his butt kicked by Archer, one part he couldn't easily carry both and Crunchbite wasn't as well suited to keeping pace as Archer was when not being carried.

In the long-run, though, Lee questioned how much would really be different later anyhow.

However, as he neared the Ranger Station, he set Crunchbite free anyway in anticipation of taking an opportunity to rest. Perhaps he wouldn't have Crunchbite free most the time but he wasn't going to keep the Pokemon cooped up except when in immediate use either.

The door answered, Lee looked at the manectric a bit, then turned back to the woman, presumably a - or even the - Ranger for the area.

He cleared his throat before speaking.

[X][Ranger Station] "Hi, I'm Lee Hinsu; Yes, I was traveling through the area and was hoping I might have a place to stay temporarily before continuing on. Also it's been a while since I've seen another human and thought that might be a refreshing change of pace."

[X]Calmly try to disengage for Sam's sake
-[X] Jaden knew plenty, but what he was most familiar with in his life was the crowding of people giving him headaches and making him miserable. As much as he wanted to make a prize of his own, a crown of fairy circle flowers, Sam was his partner. Maybe in Jaden's excitement, he'd pushed Sam too much. This was a lot of new experiences, and there would be plenty more in the future. Thank the mawile for the experience, and that Jaden and his pokemon will visit again another time with more food.

Lee Year 1 Summer Route 111 Ranger Station - 2
The ranger smiled warmly at Lee. "Ranger Cara Fillo at your service." She opened the door the rest of the way, her manectric finally getting past to start sniffing at Lee and investigate his pack. Cara waved the way into the station. The front was set up as a lobby with a reception desk that was partly hidden away.

A man came out from further in the building. "Oh, we have a guest?"

"We do! Lee, this is my partner, Ranger Ash Indigo."

"Good to meet you Lee," Ash said cheerfully. He looked at Archer and nodded approval. "Cool pick for a starter."

"Hungry, or do you want the tour first?" Cara asked cheerfully.

Jaden Year 1 Summer Fairy Garden - 2
Jaden wants to stay. Everything around him is so welcoming and draws him in with promises of adventure. But his pokemon come first. No matter how beautiful the flowers, or how amazing it is to be welcomed in around wild pokemon like this, Jaden isn't going to press in when Sam is clearly so unhappy. Oliver is uncomfortable as well, but even that is to a lesser degree than the agitation that Sam is showing at how the fairy pokemon are swarming them.

Jaden steps back and gently scoops Sam up to free him. This doesn't deter the mawiles and kirlias, and for a moment there's a flash of fear that he might just be pulled down into the group and accidentally smothered. Pokemon are stronger than humans, it's so much easier for them to hurt a human. But they let him get a bit of distance, even if all of them no longer look as happy as they did before.

"I'm sorry, but I can't join you like this," Jaden apologizes. "I really do want to join you. It looks really fun. And this place is so amazing! Can I come back another time, with more treats to offer? I don't really have much on me, but next time I come I'll be better prepared."

The fairy pokemon take in his words and seem to measure their worth. They're watching Sam, and how Jaden cradles him protectively, and how Oliver keeps close. For a moment there's a weight in the air, before it dissipates as the mawile that brought him over smiles and lets out a chirp. They're letting him go for now.
