Ah, I just realized something.

I actually expect you guys to OOC'ly figure out the mystery here. I mean, it isn't much of one, but most of your actions involve getting hints and I don't trust myself enough to give a coherent thought process through the various hints so far given.

That is all. Sorry about last night's lack of update, I quick literally had no idea what to write. Luckily, I have a good friend who shot off something passable. Next bit should be out later today.

Oh OOC figuring out is cool?

Then I think we are dealing with a Slaneeshi infestation in the local Cult of Atharti that has a Sorceress of some power as its leader. Its gaining in membership and becoming more overt as many troops are said to be showing up to their posts late.

That's all I got for the moment.

So, then, would your purpose in alerting the cult of Atharti to it's hunters be a step on the road to infiltrating it so you can act as a double agent for your superiors whom you are also alerting?

How Else Would you First Encounter the Seduction Cult?
I didn't vote to join the cult. I thought that was a baaaad idea. So no clue.

Guess we'll find out how good a liar our MC is here.
He's a silly boy.

Also, turns out you interrupted a maiden and her prey. Congrats.

Your feet and mind wandering, you explore the Watchtower.

Well, perhaps 'explore' is too strong a word. 'Mindlessly wander' probably fits better.

Too much is going on and you don't know enough.

Considering Atharti's cult's track record, it is understandable that they would be under investigation near-constantly. As such, it doesn't make sense why a Druchii would feel the need to take their brand of 'justice' into their own hands. Even if they succeeded, being brought before the Witch King for ignoring his edicts would almost certainly follow.

You supposed it could be a personal vendetta- the cult had made its enemies, after all- but that doesn't explain why others would get involved- especially seeing as those others weren't even underlings, but peers.

Apparently a VIP is touring Naggaroth, seeking out witches, and the watchtower is suffering under a rockslide that could extend however long aforementioned VIP would be staying.

This self-same VIP must also have ties to the cult, seeing as your foes(?) had elected to hold off on their nefarious(?) plan until after it had left.

And that doesn't explain out what they actually are planning to do to the cult!

Slaughtering them or a section of them is plausible, but that just doesn't make much sense for any Druchii worth their salt. The cult- for all its corruption- was legitimate in the eyes of the Witch King, and such an overt attack on it without the accompanying evidence would call for executions.

In fact, such was one of the main reasons you'd elected to push this matter up the chain of command.

For all that the King was ruthless, he also wasn't wasteful- outside of the invasions. Should this all turn out to be a fat load of nothing or even a ploy by the Great Enemy, then punishment should begin at the top and be nearly exhausted by the time is trickled down to you. A few whippings and perhaps a few years as an indentured slave would be the most likely in the absolute worst case.

Listen to you.

You half sound like you're trying to justify your course of action to yourself. You don't need to justify it, it's your course of action.

A warrior does not second guess a move after it is begun, he simply prepared for the next one.

You'd like to think blathe platitudes would remove the funk from your attentiveness, but, alas, you still stumble across what you are at least fairly certain you should not.

Had you been paying attention to where your feet were taking you, there were any number of clues for you to turn back.

The smell of sulfur and mint invading your nose like an Orkish WAAAGH!

The noticeable drop in temperature, followed by the wild swings in humidity and atmospheric pressure.

The moist moaning.

Really, you're frankly embarrassed. Not for the pair you walked in on, no.

Rather, you're embarrassed for any assassins who could ever be after you. If you continued to act in such a manner, you were only sure that such an easy target would be an insult to even the least of professional assassins.

You back off as the participators in the illicit liaison hurriedly redress themselves.

One, a boy initiate like you, is swift to evacuate the area- much to your relief.

It's the second participant that brings you an issue.

Namely, she's a Night Maiden- you disapprove of the blatant lie in the title- of Atharti. You had planned to… address this later today, but you suppose…

Make your introductions?
[ ] Yes
[ ] No

With you then rapidly fleeing the area, much in the vein of your promiscuous peer. You endeavor to ignore fully the disappointed sigh from the 'Maiden' as you make your escape.

Oh, that you were again in the days of learning how to hit things with a spear.

Like all Druchii, you had some affinity to the political realm, but your… dream seemed too Asur… ambition had left you ill prepared, to say the least, for this kind of stress.

Thankfully, you had dinner soon.

You have one free activity slot, what do you do?
[ ] Spar with someone
[ ] Shoot at the range
[ ] Lap the watchtower's bolt-thrower deck deck
[ ] Write-in (must be 'physical' exercise)

When do you do it?
[ ] First
[ ] Second
[ ] Third

Do you go to your superiors or the Athartis first?
[ ] Superiors
[ ] Atharti

My Child's First Words
As...uncomfortable as it was, you did have a duty here.

Besides, if living in a mixed barrack had taught you anything over the years, it was how to ignore others in compromising situations.

So, while the 'Maiden' leisurely dressed, you ignored her questing eyes and made your move.

"Sister-"

"-Thorami-"

"-apologies for interrupting your… tryst, but I'm Initiate Vanreir, and I've information pertaining to a threat posed towards your-"

"-heard it a million times, don't care."

"-order. What?"

Damn. And you had this whole spiel planned. /not allowing for your jaw to drop or any such other comical expression of surprise, you ask for clarification.

"Could you...clarify, please?"

She chuckles, buckling her...you hesitate to call it a skirt, considering the vast swaths of cloth it is missing, and acquiesces to your request.

"The Cult's had to fight off plenty of enemies over the centuries, boy. Morathi's gang under Our Lady's sister always have to 'keep us in check', since we're so much more popular than that frigid bitch's following. Slaaneshites are always trying to infiltrate us- obviously not remembering that our lady is mistress of deception, as well. And many a jaded noble lady or man has trying the odd assassination plot."

She waves her hand dismissively, continuing.

"I don't doubt that you actually have some information about some idiots trying to kill us, but don't blow your concern too far out of proportion, kid."

Of course, she then has to turn it back on you, her eyes going from roaming you to just ogling.

"Not that we wouldn't mind you dropping by to talk."

You vaguely recollect agreeing to drop by at some indeterminate future time.

Luckily for you, there are more than one 'shrines' to Atharti in the Tower. Maybe you won't ever see her again.

After you finish recollecting your… encounter with the Athartite, you were conveniently at your dinner location.

Your meal was mostly quiet, as you managed to calm down your kidnappers with promises of future reward if they just let you eat in peace. You weren't stupid, of course. You made sure to specify that the reward would be left to your discretion, not as some sort of vague 'favor' owed.

Still, your mind was barely cleared of unpleasantness by the time you had reached the office of your barrack mother.

If you'd had a choice, you would have gone for some other superior, but the Mothers were in charge of all interpersonal conflicts within each tower's units and between them.

In essence, it was her job to decide if something was treasonous or just stupid and deserving of a scourging.

What points do you make to convince her this deserves deeper investigation?

[ ] Write-in

How do you plant the idea of your continued involvement in her head?

[ ] Write-in

A/N: So this'll be the first time I'm gonna let you guys plan out the conversation. Don't panic too much if you're uncomfortable. Remember that short and sweet can get you far in a world where everyone's intentions are about as muddied as they can make them. Don't be afraid to exploit her own ambition and pride and fear for your safety. There will be rolls after you pick a plan of attack, but that will wait until I actually have your plan.

So how many points can we make because these can get complicated. I mean you are giving us free rein that does not have a history of working out well.

Yup.

Have at it. If you fuck about a bit too much, I'll just cut it down.

Best strategy would be to write it as if you were making an outline for a paper. unless you're more eloquent than me, then feel free to expand it from there.

[x] Troops are showing continued dereliction of duty and this may be tied to it.
-The more people that get involved before this is solved, the more bodies at the end of it, which will weaken the Watchtower and betray the King's commandments.
-On a personal note, success will likely lead to favors and advancement for both of us .

[x] I am relatively unknown and low ranking, I can move about and investigate while drawing little attention to myself.
- I am expendable and already involved, there is no need to look for other expendable uninvolved people to take on dangerous tasks.

How's that folks?

I'm open to suggestions.

Might want to include something about how succeeding will show great courage and earn glory maybe an promotion.

Well, she has already been doing this job for.....actually @Claytonimor how old is our PC and his barracks-mates?
Enough.

More seriously, the lot off you are starting your second century of life.

Barracks mothers don't get promoted out of their position until they have no more initiates in their barracks. And they are usually mothers because they are former soldiers with some debilitating injury and can't do anything else.

That is a long time to be taking care of a bunch of young punk Druchii. No wonder she has a habit of threatening to stab them if they don't get out of bed on time.

The fact that she threatens first shows that she cares.

Anyway, not super much in the way of social advancement for her. But I guess she may be banking on a few of her charges hitting the jackpot and rising in prominence enough to give her a spot as an adviser on their staff or something.

Am I too far off in thinking that way?

Or here is a thought, we do these and the Iniates who don't die get promoted and she can advance.
