Kaido is coming. The World's Strongest Creature has been raising havoc throughout the first half of the Grand Line. His battles against the cutthroats of Impel Down has left at least two island kingdoms broken and barren. Now, he's rushing headlong towards open conflict with this Marine Battle Group. Without Nimue... without Nimue, the Exalted Dawn and her accompanying battleships would have been taken unawares. You shoot the Oracle a sharp grin filled with confidence. This is what the Marines are for. You say, "Kaido's coming." A statement of fact. You've never questioned Nimue's words, not when she's certain like this. "Let him come. We shall meet him."
In the next instant, a sliver of doubt curls its way into your heart. The last time you faced down a so-called Emperor, you'd ended up dead... only saved by Nimue's spell and the reckless luck of Straw Hat. You can't afford such folly here. And, the scale of the coming conflict? Beyond your experience. If only you had some capable and conversant councillors.
Kokoko!!!
You wrap a hand around Nimue's slim waist. You're moving. No time to waste.
Sweeping past Chore Boy Onigumo you emerge onto the Exalted Dawn's main deck. The crew's still celebrating your return. And in the best way possible. They're training! The sight of Common Humans striving to tear Sinful Weakness from their frail and flawed forms brings a tear to your eye.
The sound of thunderous hammering and suffocating heat from Torbert's forge demands your attention. A quick glance shows the Giant hard at work with the bright light of dedication and determination burning in his eyes. Kaku's leading a complement of Cipher Pol operatives, including Nico Robin, in rudimentary Rokushiki drills. Ensign Cirno and Aphelandra lead the White Tiger Brigade in the Ring Battle Training you popularized in what seems like another lifetime. You don't know which is louder: Cirno's music-based Fruit or Aphelandra's bloodthirsty laughter. Law and Uma are locked in a vicious sparring match. Seems the Storage Human can store any of the former pirate's esoteric attacks. Just from the little that you see, it's apparent that the doctor is working hard on his basics and non-Devil Fruit skills.
An instant passes. Lucci stands next to you. No words are necessary. Your Herald understands your will without voicing it. Still, you prepare to speak. Divine power flows out from you. All eyes swivel to rest upon you. You stand tall with Nimue still held firmly to your side. You say, "Kaido is coming. You have an hour to prepare yourself. More orders will be forthcoming."
They press down their terror, and thousands of Marines snap sharp salutes.
Leaving the Exalted Dawn for Vice Admiral Tsuru's battleship is necessary. Bittersweet. A small part of you wishes that you could just stay with your comrades and friends. The Sinful idea of ordering a strategic retreat to ensure each and every one of your Marines survives creeps through your thoughts. Foolish. Cowardly. You will not spend the lives of your people frivolously, but Marines are the Sword and Shield of the Common World. Their lives before the lives of the civilians.
Withdrawing is not unthinkable, yet you will not do so without a worthy reason.
After a quick jaunt through the sky, you land upon the older Marine's ship. Lower ranking look at you with nothing short of awe. They should be training. What's coming will test their mettle! You must show them the way! An aged voice interrupts your rumination. "Tch, so you were alive after all, boy. Newgate must be going soft."
You smile widely. Boy? Kokoko!!! Vice Admiral Tsuru watches you from a face aged and lined by years and years upon the sea. She knows who, what, you are. A Celestial Dragon. Grand Admiral of the Marines. A living god. And the Marine Legend doesn't care one whit. Those sharp eyes don't miss a trick. She grins slightly. You answer her with a wide grin of your own. "You won't be rid of me so easily." Nimue pinches you. Right. You stand tall and proud. Every inch the god, you peer down at the Common Mortals. You continue, "Vice Admiral, gather the battle group's officers. Kaido's coming."
The grin fades from the elderly commoner's features as she hears your declaration.
"He'll be here within a hour." Nimue adds, as she pulls free of your grasp.
"Then there's no time to lose." Vice Admiral Tsuru gives the order. She turns to Captain T-Bone. "Get the word out. We're going to have company!"
There's a flurry of activity. This battle group is a well oiled machine. Den Den Mushi messages are sent. Scouts begin searching the surrounding seas. Nimue guides the fleet to the most advantageous waters. You have little and less to do. You serve as an example as you do your pre-battle post-jaunt workout.
The first notable arrival is Monkey D, Garp. He lands heavily on the battleship's deck. He radiates animal Threat. Still, stronger. Sinful Weakness boils to your core.
"Wahaha, Tsuru, you sure its him?" Straw Hat's grandfather gestures at you and asks without even looking at you, Nimue, or Lucci.
"His lunatic crew seems sure enough."
He cracks his knuckles. Garp the Hero takes a step forward. Terror threatens to eat at your resolve. An aspect of Death strides towards you. Even absent a hand, Garp looms a titan among titans. "Luffy had a story, but there's only one way to know for su-"
In a white-black flash Lucci interposes himself between yourself and the older Marine. His blackened claws gleam under the light of torches. The Byakkoman's killing intent is nearly a physical thing. "You shall not harm the Great Dragon."
"Kokoko!!! It's alright. Do not interfere." You command. He obeys without hesitation. Your attention does not waver from Garp. "Do your worst Vice Admiral."
He flashes forward. Telegraphs the punch enough for even a novice to dodge. Don't budge an inch. You brace yourself. You devour the instinctive terror. Scales of Haki, defenses beyond base Armament unfold within every facet of your vessel. You were not as you once were. He does not hold back. You embrace the Fist.
Through all the layers of your divinely wrought defenses, Vice Admiral Garp's fist hurts. It penetrates to the quick of your soul. You don't let go. Force and power are distributed along Heavenly Passageways. He may be stronger, but the gap is no longer a chasm. The smile never leaves your lips. Your sharp gaze never leaves his wild eyes.
You withstand the mighty punch.
And retribution sends Garp reeling back a step with a torrent of whipping and pressurized wind. Divine blood flows from a split lip. A bloody smile lights your features. "Don't go easy on me, Vice Admiral!"
"Bugger me, it is you!" Garp smiles broadly. "And you've gotten a bit tougher. Gahaha, I've never met a World Noble like you! Dunno how you turned out so different from the rest of those scum."
There's silence. Garp the Hero just referred to Celestial Dragons as 'scum'...
