Darkspace ~ A Sci-fi Horror RPG (Full Roster)

On the one hand, if the Engineering team is in Engineering, the ship technically doesn't need to be docked there anymore. Plus it would help get Lt. Montague some initial treatment as well.

On the other hand, given the way things have gone thus far, there's likely a nasty surprise waiting for them in Engineering anyway and leaving the Engineering team there before the ship is restored without an avenue to escape may be a death sentence for the Engineering team.

I'll give you this much, this game has definitely done an excellent job of replicating the feeling of a horror movie with all the threats of everyone dying in terrible, terrible ways.

There's another more practical reason for that being a terrible idea as well, because for that someone would need to fly the Nostra back around to the upper deck, and Montague isn't really up to it any more. Krishnoff can pilot (I assume anyways), but he's still cryo sick, so neither of them are good choices.

Well, one thing we can do is have someone not needed for engineering act as relay to the doctors in the upper portions of the ship. Adams is wearing a spacesuit, it should have a sophisticated bio monitor, send the readouts to medical, then act on what advice they can send back. It's not perfect, but it would be better than nothing.

Not sure what I can do; I'm a science cyborg, and so far there's not much science available.
Working out what might have possibly attacked Adams, though I imagine humanity never encountered alien life before?

aye, this is new in the human experience, if indeed alien life is responsible. I'll have something very soon for the science team to sink their teeth into.

Signing up as a red shirt.

Name: Lizbet Arpe

Biological Age: 27

Nationality: Lunar

Rank: Ensign.

Specialty: Intelligence/Communications

Bio: Lizbet was born on the moon of Earth, one among an overcrowded fragment of Humanity attempting to escape the crush. While her parents where, among other things ships mechanics, she was drawn into criminal law from an early age-becoming an agent of the Lunar Security Bureau. LSB Agents primary missions were preventing anti-colonial terrorists or corporate mercenaries from harming space borne operations, and keeping down smuggling-Lizbet stood out through her ability to perform the dull, but crucial arts of encryption and long distance messaging. She was also trained in various hand to hand and weaponry styles and worked as an operations analyst. Her assignment to the Ark was more due to a minority of positions assigned to non-Terrans out of political expediency-the Lunars in particular lobbied Earth to include enough of their citizens to make sure they could live on a comfortable world, as Lunars are uncomfortable in 'standard' gravity.

Lizbet is technically an officer in the LSB, but on the ship has graciously agreed to obey the navy command structure.

Just to be clear on the recent chain of events, Montague and Krishnoff have flown the Nostra back to the Flight Deck to get Adams medical help? If so, have they left behind the engineering team to restore the ship's systems?

Gods no, Montague isn't up to flying and Krishnoff is still cryo sick. We're staying down here. My plan is to relay the commander's medical readouts to the doctors on the flight deck for instructions on how best to treat him/keep him stable until they can get down here.

okay, good. @NathanMedium could you amend your ic to reflect this or delete it. I'll send the medical team a report as soon as I can - hopefully later tonight.

As you can see from the latest IC, the commander is not in good shape. His heart rate is dangerously low, his blood pressure through the roof, and his breathing very shallow. Further complicating things, his suit is covered with a mysterious black substance.

Mother would be able to better advise the crew, but all her subroutines can pretty much do is record the suit's vital readers. Its up to the medical team.

I'm absolutely giddy about what lies ahead for your characters. This is only the beginning...

As of now, the Nostra is docked at the aft of the shit, connected to the Engineering airlock. The engineering team is tending to the commander, waiting on word from the medical team with Adams in critical condition. The crew of the Nostra should be putting Juarez in quarantine as per Segreti's orders. Waiting on instructions from the medical team regarding Adams, then we'll have a sitrep.

I hope we've also got at least a couple of engineers working on restarting the ship's reactor?

Not as of yet. Consider the last few moments aboard the Nostra. The engineering team standing by to board the Ark and head to engineering when the incident with the commander happens. They get him inside, and he's lying on the floor of the airlock. They didn't step over him and continue on their way, they're taking off his suit and grabbing a trauma kit to perform what first aid they can.

Ah, damnit, I told them to get the power on because while short term attention isn't nothing, long term care is more important.

I'm gonna update my post a little.

Here's the thing...

Adams brought three engineers aboard the Nostra - Himself, Johnson, and Juarez. He had one stay with the main bridge as a precaution in case something went terribly wrong and killed everyone aboard the shuttle. He didn't want to leave the Ark with 0 active engineers in good enough shape to help the remaining survivors.

Of those three, Adams is currently in critical condition and Juarez is possibly contaminated and has been ordered into isolation to protect the others.

That leaves Johnson as the lone engineer who currently has access to Engineering and might be able to get it functional at any point that might allow Adams to survive.

Except Johnson is currently putting priority in trying to preserve Adam's life.

The remaining passengers aboard the Nostra are Montague, Krishnoff, Kelly, and Baines. With Montague not doing well herself, that leaves a grand total of Johnson, Krishnoff, Kelly, and Baines as viable individuals to split their attention between keeping Adams alive until the ship is restored and getting power restored to the Ark.

Since it's mostly just performing relayed instructions, Krishnoff and I can keep an eye on the commander. Johnson needs to go get the power turned back on, Kelley or Bains can go with him in case he needs backup for anything, Juarez can stay with us for now, we simply don't have the manpower to put him in a quarantine under guard so the best we can do is watch him and make sure he doesn't touch anyone or disappear.

Updated my post to reflect that.

Johnson has two people with him, he should be able to dispatch one of them to the pump.

To: Lieutenant Commander Segreti
From: Lt. Kelly
Subject: Acting Commander

Since you are the acting commander, I must inform you that I observed Captain Bischoff moving through the cryo area. I followed and came across his body, deceased for an incongruent amount of time. I informed Commander Adams and since he is incapacitated I am passing on the information to you.
To: Engineering Team
From: Lt. Kelly
Subject: Safety Protocol

Listen up! Nobody goes anywhere alone. Everyone is to move in groups of at least two. If you make visual contact with anything out of the ordinary, do not approach. Remain where you are and call for back-up.

((To be clear, there are 3 people on this mission to restart the ship's functions. Johnson, Baines, and Kelly. Johnson being the only engineer, it falls on Kelly or Baines to operate the coolant pump in Coolant Control, while the others move on to reboot the ship's systems. There is no choice but have one of them alone to operate that pump. Question is, who's it gonna be?))

Huh. I thought we had four people. Shows what I know.
