Needless Meddling
The next few months were an incredibly busy time as the entire regional exploration community worked hand in hand with the myriad powers that be to handle the logistics for what came next. Interest groups, Bloodline Clans and emerging Packs emerged from distant corners of the Monster Collective, sniffing around inquisitively, eager to grab a slice of the meal for themselves.
Anyone who was anyone wanted to get a paw in the door for themselves or a relative.
The position of Herdsman became the subject of much debate, enough that a decision had to be made fast. Settling a new world was always a logistical challenge at the best of times and with so much pressure and attention focused on the new discovery made the current environment anything but conducive to sound decision making.
A new Herdsman had to be raised and raised now.
Director Kali'Vern grumbled silently as he walked through bustling halls, staff scurrying around with exasperated or annoyed expressions. His people weren't dealing with the sudden pressure with perfect composure but he didn't blame them.
The next idiot who barged in trying to throw their weight around was getting the horns, regardless of the consequences. It was because of that endless stream of morons that this impromptu committee was being formed to select the new Herdsman, without the appropriate considerations.
This should have been a thorough examination of all duly qualified aspirants, with decades to gather all required intelligence and a good century of two of deliberation, to ensure that the office would be upheld to the highest possible standards. The citizens of the Monster Collective deserved to be served and lead by the best.
Instead they got this- a quickly thrown together hodgepodge of decision makers gathering to throw somebody into the position, just to streamline and concentrate authority regarding the new system and cut away all the gunk.
Maybe it was time to hand in his resignation sometime soon? Barely three thousand years in and this job was turning into more of a hassle than he could stomach.
Kali'Vern reached a heavy Tier 30 door and shuffled inside the conference room, taking a seat with a sigh, nodding deeply to Shepherd Rastistic. As they were in her Territory, the furry old gal had one of the most influential voices in the upcoming discussion.
"Quite the pickle we've got ourselves in." Muttered Drake the Drake- whose Bond must have been the most unimaginative woman he'd ever heard of. Who does that, honestly?- throwing a perfectly manicured talon his way. As the beast in charge of all Military operations in the Territory their opinion would also hold more than a fair share of weight.
"Maybe if people stuck to their lanes and stopped being such complete-" Kali'Vern quickly took the opportunity to grumble but was cut of by Sasha's snort. The Ibex refocused on her, noting that the Velociraptor had seemingly eschewed the new fashion in the Monster Collective. Instead of a form melding their Beast nature and a humanoid frame, the woman appeared entirely human aside from her predatory eyes. As a Central treasurer who would handle allocating funding towards the initial Colonization efforts, her say was also of vital importance.
"Aspected worlds are rare to begin with. A Time Aspect world of this size and Tier? It's utterly unique, and promises to open up a lot of door regarding Bloodline and Mana Aspecting." Sasha responded primly, his eyes unerringly locked with Kali'Vern's own. "Such interest is well within expectations."
The Ibex clacked his tongue in disagreement but let the matter drop. Just because people were interested, didn't give them the right to interfere and throw their weight around. In the interest of not challenging the beast who had final say over his departments budget however, he let the matter drop.
They waited for a dozen more minor officials to arrive before the monkey in the room stood up and clapped her hands. Silence fell and the assembled leadership lowered their heads to the Tier 46 in deference.
"I know this isn't usually how we like to go about things, but needs must." Rastistic began, her tone gentle and warm. "People are understandably excited about this and want to have a bit of a poke around, which I know is hampering the process somewhat. In light of that we're gathered here to elect an suitable beast to the position of Herdsman."
Kali'Vern blinked several times as a wave of awkward looks briefly passed around the table, mentally crossing out two thirds of his candidates at the rather blunt decree. He'd expected it, but to hear it so blatantly...
Not a mountain he was interested in scaling the Director decided quietly.
"Are there any other requirements that need to be met." Drake coughed, lightly poking.
"Nothing beyond what I've already said." Rastistic smiled at the Drake in a motherly fashion.
With that out of the way they all accelerated their perception to Tier 35, matching the military officer and began long, long hours of discussion and argument.
Kali'Vern was going determined to get a qualified Beast accepted, even if he needed to beat his hooves into skulls to ensure it.
