Cultist Simulator: Let's Boogie

I think part of my problem is that I'm always worried about running out of something I'll end up needing later, either in terms of lore or minions.

How likely is it to turn around and realize you're boned because you converted all the available lore to other stuff, or didn't save enough Secret Histories lore to combine to open up useful later expeditions?
Impossible (unless you do it deliberately). You can only convert lore to lore, almost anything you would use a lower level lore for a higher one can also do, you can get secret histories cards from dreaming with Ways, and there`s always a 'generic' random loot expedition at each tier beyond the set ones.

I guess it MIGHT be possible to subvert all your ascension types lore to other lore types, but even then there are rites that can get to 36 purely on tool, influence and assistant/victim. Or you overuse Watchmans Sorrow I guess ?

In other words, nothing is too awesome to use. Thanks! *wanders off to Morland's to try to finally pick up some Moth lore study material*

I mean, if you haven`t bought out Morlands yet you`re nowhere close to out of lore sources.

Keep in mind that you can also split a lore card into two lower tier ones by studying it with Reason.

Well, subverting lore requires two lores of the same magnitude, so I guess it's possible to end up screwing yourself over that way if you convert all your lores of one type to another for some reason. Or you could overuse Watchman's Sorrow/Rite Intercalate and burn up all your lores (but why would you ever use Rite Intercalate lol).

But the question is why you would waste all your lores by subverting them willy-nilly or burning them up in rituals. Especially when there are rites that use up less valuable items.

Secret Histories are impossible to run out of as you can always go dreaming in the Mansus to get more fragments.

Um. If you ever get the Frangiclave, don't destroy it in a ritual or sell it off. For the same reasons, you generally want to keep one or more of the mirror artefacts around.

Also avoid throwing away your Pawns or Followers, as both draw from a limited pool. And don't sacrifice your stats obviously.

Generally aim to use up expendable things like summoned creatures, influences, and money, because you can always get more of those.

To win, obviously. Who cares about the cost when the game ends afterwards ?
Also avoid throwing away your pawns or Followers, as both draw from a limited pool. And like, don't sacrifice your stats obviously.
There`s a case to be made for deliberately getting followers wounded, as scars do give aspect, and a dancer very much wants to sacrifice stats since the resulting scars are more effective for advancing the change.

But yeah, by and large you want to use like... Sunset Rite, Maps Edge or the like rather than Watchmans Sorrow or Crucible of the Soul. One shouldn`t be afraid to drop a ingredient on a name summon, but for Maid in the Mirror or Hints or whatever Restlessness or Funds or the like is sufficient.

To complete the highest level of Patron commission only requires a minimum of level 6 Lore (at the moment, anyway) As long as you have a Lore of 6 or better in every Aspect, and that includes Secret Histories, you'll never have to worry about being unable to complete a commission. Also, there's enough duplication of Lore from books that you shouldn't have to worry about being boned. I had something like 4 copies of mid-level Lore in multiple categories before I ascended last game, lots of Edge, Heart, Grail, and Lantern, but not much Forge or Knock.

As for Secret Histories, if you can work your way up to Port Noon Anecdotes, you will eventually get your hands on the Frangiclave, at which point you can open the Peacock Door whenever you want for free, which makes grabbing any missed Expeditions relatively trivial.

EDIT: Moth'd

Looking for some help.

I've got a decent income with painting. Have set up a lantern cult and moved from the temp. Hq to a new one. Have 2 pawns and 2 followers.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to upgrade lore bits, improve the hq, summon creatures, and reach endgame.

Okay, lore is pretty easy. Two types of the same lore can be studied together to combine them into a single, higher level lore of the same type. This is a lot easier than it used to be since progress is perpetual and HQs give a 'free' success of a specific type. Try to have a Glimmering and a Erudition freshly drawn when you start and it`ll usually go pretty well and if not, hey, you can pick up where you left off.

The other 'upgrade' for lore is subversion. Subversion is the use of two lores of different types to produce a single higher level lore of a specific type; for example a level 2 Moth lore can be studied with a level 2 Lantern lore into a Level 4 Lantern lore, or with a level 2 Knock lore into a level 4 Knock lore. Moth flies into the Flame which is split by the Forge that makes the Knife that serves the Ending that is deferred by the Drumbeat that is emptied into the Cup which is fed on by the Moth, and all are opened by the Knock.

Lastly you can also split a level x lore into two level x/2 lores, which is mostly useful if you want a specific level of Secret Histories to explore on or just want to spam expeditions.

Your HQ cannot be improved. You can only move to a different one; some are better than others.

Summoning is achieved by doing a rite with the appropriate aspects. Most summons require at least a bit of Knock, a decent amount of the creatures primary aspect and usually a touch of another aspect. Summoning can go awry, and the summons are time limited, so do it when you have a use for the creature or expect to have one soon.

Endgame... well, you need to progress along higher Ways by dreaming on the correct card. You`ll eventually achieve the Third Mark, and then it gets interesting. Depending on your ambition you`ll need to feed certain things to the Mark - people in various states, which is usually easiest by imprisoning Pawns - to reach the Sixth mark, at which time 'all' you need to do is a Rite with 36 aspect of appropriate type... though there are ways to lower the requirement. Be careful : If you leave a mark unfed it`ll go down a level, though never below three.

There are alternate win conditions for the DLC ambitions and origins though.

My favorite HQ is the hospital, by far

The Pit is the most generally useful research utility (Since getting dread for grim challenges is kind of a pain) And it gives a reliable way to get knock influence whenever you want to summon something, which is rather handy.

My lantern cult leader died from old age, but he was "happy" which the game told me is kind of a victory.

Guess I'm a doctor now.
