CoSR - Side Story: War of the Grail (F/Z)

Nah, Shirou's technique is fine - You just have to use Someone's nerves to make the circuits. Turn the whole person into a big Mystic Code. it's a wonderful idea cause they feel all the pain!
Shirou's technique is fine
Be back in a few minutes, after I've finished smashing something. :V

...

Anyway, Mad Enhancement jokes aside, there is sort of a precedent in Caster making Shirou into a wand for tracing, so it's an option, I suppose. I still stand by the opinion that the nerve circuits thing is never worth the risk that comes with the practice.

Well since no one else seems to want to do it I guess I will, here's the other roll.

whoops. That was supposed to say Someone Else's Nerves.

I was vaguely joking that Shirou's method is fine, so long as you are making someone else handle all the risk while you get the reward.

You know, the Magus way of thinking :p

No, you aren't locked into any one servant into the very moment that you do the ritual to summon. You've decided to spend this turn looking for Artifacts for Nobu, but that doesn't mean that Nobu is going to be who you summon. Put that in a plan for next turn.

Now for the funnest part of this system! Yaaaaaayyyyyyy~~

We need 15d10 for the Roll for crafting the Prana Battery! DC is 5!

Rolling.

Edit: damn can only roll twelve.

After counting the Doubles from the 10s and the losses from the 1s...

9 successes. 1 short of getting the bonus!

yert... Why the fuck would you do that? Next time, how about giving other people a chance to participate before hogging all the rolls?

Question: We locked for Nobunaga? Cause I was about to suggest Minamoto no Yorimitsu.
Why, though? Raikou is strong, without doubt, but I am not keen on dealing with the Ushi Oni. She also has an anti-monster specialization, which won't help much against the more dangerous Servants we can expect here. Nobunaga at least has a chance against Gilgamesh. Raikou with her Divinity will ultimately helpless.

1) Why would we need to deal with Ushi Oni?

2) Yorimitsu's third skill is called Mystery Killer, so is not limited to just Demon's.

3) Nobunaga is a member of the Archer class, unless Gil gets summoned in another class here, then even if we got her we probably won't be dealing with Gil. And lets not forget the potential for that being butterflied away anyways.

Ushi Oni is Yorimitsu; more specifically, she is the end result of Yorimitsu's Inversion Impulse. Any catalyst associated with Raikou will have a chance of getting us her instead.

I never mentioned demons, oi. And I didn't even mean her skill - we don't even have a lore description for that, only its effects in FGO - but rather, her experiences in legend.

As for Gil... If this were the canon F/Z timeline, only with the War triggering more than a decade earlier, I would feel safe saying he won't appear because Tokiomi hasn't found the catalyst yet. But this is an AU that crosses over with at least two other things so, while we are not forgetting the potential for him being butterflied away, let's not forget the potential of him not being butterflied away. Gil can be summoned into several classes so even if we get an Archer, Saber, Caster, and Rider at least remain open to him.

It's not like I'm all that pro-Nobunaga, though. Personally, I would prefer a Servant that could help Adel find himself, or at least would be invested in his mental health. Raikou actually kind of fits that bill since she also has experienced issues with self-control and fears inverting again. But regardless, Ushi Oni so I would rather try for someone else.

Yeah, Gil is summonible in all seven of the base classes, and at least three non-standard classes, one of which is even titled 'Class: Gilgamesh'4

Random Interrupt!
You continued to flip through the pages of the book that you were reading, looking for any information on who any of the previous servants were and how they stood up in battle. The actual events in that battles seems to have been lost in time, as there were no survivors for the first two wars and the last war had almost no information on it. Throwing that hope for information as a bust, you closed the book that you had before returning it to its place on the shelves. Walking back to the desk that you had been using, you started to look over some of the books that you had on hand.

Eventually you marked down all of the instructions for the actual summoning, as while you don't plan to do it now it you figured that you should at least keep it on hand. With that done you started to put away the last of the books. This was far better then you could have ever hoped for, an omnipotent miracle granting item that could grant any wish. The war was all that you needed, with it you could prove those damn idiots how wrong they were.

Your mouth twitched as a rather savage grin, spread across you face at what you could do with such an item. Grabing you bag, you put the books that you needed into them before setting of to leave the clock towers library.

But you were only a few steps out of the door when you were nearly run over by a black haired kid who was full on running down the halfway, with a confused and lost expression on his face. His legs were rather quickly carrying him down the hallway into the direction of the Necromancy class. Dismissing him from your mind you started to walk down the hall in the opposite direction as the kid was running. Whatever had him in such a mess was none of your concern.

You had work to do.

One weeks into the turn
Letting the warmth of your body fade away, you looked at your newly crafted Mystic Code. You fingered the necklace that you had, with it now an Amplifier your necklace was far more useful then it was before. While not a superb mystic code it would still be useful in the future in the future on the off chance that you ran into one of the other masters. It will be of no use to you if you run into a servant, but that's why you needed a servant in the war.

What was the most worrying was what could happen if you ran into the Master of a Caster, with there ability to craft magical items...

There is nothing that you could make that could compare to what they could create. That servant was straight from ether from the age of heroes or, you dread this possibility, a caster straight from the age of the gods. You could only hope that you would never meet the master of the caster, as whoever that is would be incredibly powerful if they knew how to use there potential.

Three Weeks into the turn

Walking into your room you smirked that the success that had followed in your wake as, things were going as you had hoped. You managed to get quite a few people to realize that you were not some simply throw away from the Eisen family, and you even got a few people to have slightly in-debt to you. You were glade that you had balanced your checkbook, otherwise the bribes that you did wouldn't have payed off as well as they did.

At this point you gained a lot more then you lost, making it so things will be better down the road.

One Month into the turn

Growling at the pages that you had, you couldn't help but get annoyed by the time that you wasted. The ideas for the ProtoFram that you had realized were a dead end, in a far to literal sense then you would have preferred. The interface would sooner kill the user then actually allow you to actually use the damn thing. Unfortunately it was a problem with the method of connecting to your nerves, something that you hadn't seen until now. Now that you do see it, well it means that the past few weeks of work were a waist of time.

You were thankful that you hadn't personally tried to use it, otherwise you would currently be dead. Throwing the pages in a fire you went back to the drawing board, if everything there had been trying to interface with your nerves like that then everything following would be useless. No... if you were to....

Yes, that might work, but to do that you would need to.....

One Month and Three Weeks into the turn
You wiped sweat off of your brow as you looked at what you managed to get done over the last few weeks. The Armor ProtoFrame was much closer to being finished then you thought it would by this time. The neural interface was finished, but that was all of the armor that had been finished. The front and back of the armors weren't attached to each other, since you didn't have a method to have the armor move at this point in time.

Each half stood as tall as you were, with there being a large metal ribcage on the chest that you would need to modify so actual armor could be placed there. That chest piece was attached to a hip piece and to shoulder pieces, both of which would linked into the various limbs. You currently had one of the arm pieces off to the side, testing its hands ability to function.

While there was a loss in dexterity, the hand should be able to act like your own hands...

If those hands were about the wrap around you skull and were strong enough to crush it like a grape.

The largest probably at this point was the fact that you haven't gotten it animated. You're going to need to finish up the spells to make sure that it's going to be able to actually move.

Two Months and Two weeks into the turn
Random Event!
Interrupt!

You were walking though the Clock Tower, thinking on where to start your search for relics of Oda Nobunaga. Being one of the first to assimilate western inventions and tactical concepts into the art of war, you figured that a tactical mind such as his would be of great use during the Holy Grail war.

"Did you hear, I heard that Professor Archibald spent twenty-thousand pounds trying to get his hands on the shield of Achilles?"

You stopped and turned in the direction of the voice. It was a trio of students, you recognized them as some of Lord El-Melloi Archibald's Necromancy students. None of them were the kid that ran into you two months ago.

"Really, well I heard that he spent sixty-thousand trying to get the battle standard that Joan of Arc would carry into battle! Really, what was he thinking? That thing is probably in the hands of the Church."

Well, isn't this interesting...

"You think it has something to do with what happened to Waver? They've been really tense around each other for about a week now, and have you seen the way he's been holding his arm? With the rumors going around that he Professor Archbald attack a student, and the fact that Waver's arm is bandaged along with how he was holding it..."

You could see the tension rolling off of the other students, and you could understand why. Even amongst magi, teachers don't normally attack student's...

Wait....

Your body tensed as you came to a realization, before you quickly started to leave. Command Seals are integrated with the Magic Circuits, so forcibly ripping off a Command Seal would leave someone in the state that you heard that this Waver person was in. With the Lord El-Melloi Archibald seeming to be franticly throwing money around in a search for what had to be a Catylest, and with what was just being said...

Lord El-Melloi stole the Command Seal off of whoever Waver is, and he is desperately looking for something to summon a Servant. It's likely that Waver is researching the summoning ritual right now, trying to find out how to do it before Lord El-Melloi came back to steal the rest of the Command Seal. It would only take two months at best for his to figure out the summoning ritual, and Lord El-Melloi would have eyes on him at all times. Two months before you effectively lost access to two different classes, with no real way to know what those classes were and how that would affect your chances at summoning a servant.

Damn it!

You could let them continue, restricting your options and possibly loosing two different classes. While not the end of the world it does restrict you on who you will be able to summon, possibly making the catylist that you have planed to try and gather become invalid.

Or you could do the summoning now. Lord El-Melloi will likely only actually preform the summon once he learns that Waver is about to do his, and that could still be sooner then you had originally thought.

What to do?
[ ] Summon
[ ] Don't

Alert LV 2

The rest of the plan will continue after this interrupt is finished. If summoning is preformed all IP spent looking for a Catalysts will be returned, and as you have not gone to Japan yet you may re-plan your actions regarding a base.

If we're hoping for Oda as Archer it'll maybe be gone by the time we get a catalyst. Tokiomi's timescale is quite restricted, and somewhat uncertain given changes, but I do remember that his summoning was simultaneous to Waver's summoning, some 12 days prior to the war. Assassin was first, then most of the others, Lancer, and Caster is last.

Umm... If there's still nearly four years until the Grail War, summoning a Servant should kill us, Kayneth, and especially Waver - on the Fuyuki ley line, the Grail only gathers enough prana in 50 years to keep 7 Servants around for a month or so, and without its support, even Illya had been in constant pain just supporting her Basaka's existence. (There's precedent, I know, but Saber is an extra special snowflake in that she has a physical body, and Sakura by the end of HF had a constant influx of prana from the Root even with the Grail shut down.)

I have been approaching this with the expectation that there will be no summonings except by the Einzberns until pretty much the dawn of war. So, I want to ask, what has changed that allows this?

This is slightly meta, but I will tell you that we have done some edits so that you will still be able to keep a servant summoned even at this point and all the way through. Summoning a servant want actually kill you, or any of the others that are doing summonings early.

Some of the scales on when people are summoning have been altered, that way you don't have an exact knowledge to go on for when people are summoning. So while there is some parts of what you are thinking is valid, keep in mind that there have been some changes.

Just a thought but if there is 4 years until the war why aren't we grabbing a Catalyst from a non douchey caster type person and then spending those 4 years churning out ridiculously overpowered magic items that we can deploy en mass?

I forget, when is this story taking place in relation to the main stories? Will the war have already finished by the time of the other stories? Or will they get to influence this, if events conspire correctly?

Actually apparently the Berserker Yorimitsu is because they have extreme motherly feelings towards those they care for. To the point I'd call her 'Yan-Mom'. Though I learned this from tvtropes so not sure on accuracy.

There's also the fact that Yorimitsu can also be summoned as a Saber, Lancer, and Archer given that she's shown to be using a Katana, a Naginata, and a Bow. Of which Yorimitsu would be male and lose the motherly tendencies mostly and be able to help with the mental stability more as then we'd be working with Yorimitsu after Inversion Impulse was said and done.

As for Mystery Killer I'd say it'd work rather well for Servants with a 'mysterious/mystical' quality somewhat similar to Oda's skills/NP's. Throw it that Yorimitsu's NP let's them clone themselves for five combatants at a time...better survival there, along with potential Yan-yan mode on enemy servants and the fame bonus of being in Japan I'd say Yorimitsu would be a good choice since Archer's most likely already taken by Tokiomi, unless we summon now and hope we get Nobunaga.

Edit: Grue over on SB told that its also the inversion impulse so sorry for slightly mixing facts.

Don't know, don't care about the 'Yan-Mom' thing. It's an expression of her insanity, not necessarily the cause. Heck, even just going by what you are saying, it is part of the Ushi Oni package, her trait rather than Yorimitsu's, and Berserker Yorimitsu is impossible without Ushi Gozen.

As for the rest, I'm going by what translated parts I've come across of the Onigashima event. "Ushi Gozen" is the final boss there, and is explicitly stated by Kintoki to be what happens when Yorimitsu's divine power overflows and overtakes him/her. There's also a mention that Ushi Gozen is a package deal when summoning Yorimitsu but whether that is the case only for their Berserker incarnation or not, I am not sure.

Also, Ushi Gozen was definitely born female. However, Yorimitsu identifies as a man, at least going by his/her expectation of being summoned in a male body. Whether that expectation is there simply as a nod to his/her legend, due to being raised as a boy, due to actually having been male in life via shapeshifting, or because of dual soul shenanigans like in case of Ryougi Shiki is up to our interpretation until more information becomes available.

[X] Don't

Summoning at this point would be seriously jumping the gun.

Ugh... I'm a bit tempted to suggest going all gung-ho, setting fire to Hiei-zan, and hoping for the best. It is a quick and dirty way to go about it but one even more obvious than stealing her personal gun. We will be pretty much screaming to the whole world that Oda Nobunaga will be in the War 4 years before its start.

Ultimately,
[X] Don't

I say, if we decide to jump the gun, at least let said gun be Nobunaga's personal one that is exhibited at a museum in Kiyosu.
