CoSR - Side Story: War of the Grail (F/Z)

Ok, so I'm going to close the vote now.

Would someone roll a d10 Armor ProtoFrame, a d10 for socializing, and a last d10 for research.

Also, I'll do some rolls for the person that you are hiring to steal the gun to see how well they do.

So why is our guy going for a gun using servant despite he fact he loathes guns?

I'm...

I don't know. I didn't think about that fact until I had already written stuff for searching for it in the story. I'm just trying to make it work by him forcing himself to tolerate the gun, for the sake of wining the Holy Grail.

Honestly it's going to be sketchy at best.

Also, one more d4

I personally figure this is going to end about as well as Gilgamesh did for Tokiomi.

I'm honestly not that worried about how the character would react in fact I think it will make for some really good character growth as he is forced to team with someone who loves guns. I don't think he would really have a problem with the servent herself since he only hates guns not anyone who uses guns. The best part of it from my view is that Nobunaga is a really charismatic character so there's a good chance he will actually like her as a person it would be really cool to see how he deals with someone he grows to like being around who also happens to use something he hates. The more I think about it the more I like the idea it could lead to all sorts of good character growth.

Because I'm dumb. Or, rather, just absent-minded enough to forget about that bit despite having created the character, but I certainly feel dumb about it.

Actual reason, though, is bandwagoning and being forced to choose a Servant straight from the start. My expectations had been that we would have 4 in-quest years to decide, that had caught me by surprise, and so I had gone with the first suggested option that I liked.

Of course, that's only my perspective but it's all I can offer without diving into guesswork.

Also there's the fact that because our guy loathes guns, then he's going to have immense friction with Nobunaga.

Honestly I'd just say have the gun stolen just to be a decoy and go for a different servant, maybe using our inhuman blood on Mt. Ooe to get someone of the level of Kintoki, Shuten-Douji, Ibaraki-Douji, or Yorimitsu.

At least if we're set on getting a Japanese Servant.

What is this "level" you speak of? If you mean power, Nobu blows all four of them out of the water, if in large part due to affinity issues. If we go for "level", we should seek artifacts for Karna, Rama, Huangdi, or, heck, Zoroaster in case Angra Mainyu is a thing. Aim for people so far above the diagonal they simply break the game regardless of circumstances.

Besides, Adel's inhuman blood is of European origin. It shouldn't work as a catalyst for oni breeds.

Edit: Even limiting ourselves to just Japanese legends, the ones you name would not be my choices. I've already voiced my issues with Yorimitsu. Kintoki is a blunt instrument that doesn't have much going for him beyond brute force, and even that brute force doesn't trigger reliably. Ibaraki-Douji and Shuten-Douji, being non-humans, are unlikely to even be summonable under this Grail War's system.

Honestly, Japanese or not, I would prefer a Servant that hasn't yet appeared anywhere to give our GMs more creative freedom. Yamato Takeru, Yamatohime/Himiko/Jingu, and Emperor Jimmu are a few off the top of my head suggestions for heroes that would be both broken powerful and helpful with Adel's personal issues.

I would have offered Takeru as you said, however the problem comes from the fact that I believe Yamato Takeru was/is related to Japan's Imperial Family, and I do not want the government to potentially put a bounty on us or anyone marginally connected to us, in part due to Kiritsugu.

For the Nobunaga being top-tier over the other legends of Japan its mainly because Japan's heroes tend to be neck deep in mystery/mysticism wich gives her a bonus to attack. Against foes like Diarmund or Arturia, Nobunaga's attack power is dramatically reduced, she's even worst against Berserkerlot who can steal her guns and use them against her.

I also only mentioned Japanese Servants, on the off chance people still want to try for the fame bonus, though according to Grue who on SB informed me that the Einzberns hardwired the Grail not to allow Japanese Servants because of the fame bonus deal possibly being used against them. Not sure if the GM/QM's will follow that though.

Honestly I'd prefer trying for Ozymandias, though we need to be careful on how we'd acquire that particular servant's catalyst. And that's if we decide to stick to premade servants.

It... doesn't work that way. Diarmuid lived on the precipice of the Age of Gods, Lancelot is blessed by fairies and has a Noble Phantasm that pretty much makes him a walking mystery, and Arturia is literally a dragon. All three of them also have Earth as their attribute. Nobu gets good bonuses against all of them. It's people like Li Shuwen - of Man attribute and with an anti-human specialization - that she needs to be wary of.

That will require a quote if you want me to take it seriously. Emiya and Koujirou are quite Japanese.

Considering that guy's personality, he should be about as useful as Gilgamesh to Tokiomi. Why would you want to summon him?

This baffles me. What charges would they level against us? Is it a felony to revive one of their most beloved national heroes? And why would Kiritsugu risk bringing the Church's wrath and all other Masters together against him with such a blatant breach of secrecy?

In order:

Diarmuid, Arturia, and Lancelot have no Divinity which cuts Nobu's skills/NP's down by a Third. Diarmuid and Lancelot don't technically have the Riding Skill which reduces Nobu down another Third. And Knight of Honor simply makes it so Lancelot's identity is in question as he often disquised himself as his fellow knights for tournements. It doesn't make him a mystery rather it simply conceals himself.

I don't know where Grue got it, but he said Nasu said that the Einzbern's made it impossible for the Fuyuki Grail to summon Japanese Servants. As for EMIYA and Sasaki, well one's from the future so no real bonus there, and Sasaki has often been compared to a Wraith rather than a true Servant.

His weakest NP has the Strength to fight off Three Servants at once, it took five servants minimum to take him out, and he can overpower an EX-rank Excalibur. Those good reasons?

Theft of a royal treasure, theft of a national treasure, desecration of said treasure, etc.

Also it is more that we'd have a bounty on the theft of a national treasure which would quite possibly tip off which servant we might summon and paint a target on our back which wouldn't look strange if a 'Bounty Hunter/Mercenary' were to take us out and cash in the reward.

Have you even looked at Nobu past F/GO mechanics? Your lack of understanding of the concepts behind her abilities and how they work in an actual Servant on Servant battle is evident. The three Servants don't have divinity, sure, but mystery they possess in spades, and that is enough to trigger Tenka Fubu. Knight of Honor is also not what you think it is. Please spare me further aneurysms, stop here, and do some actual research rather than ask around for second-hand information before you say anything more on this topic.

As good as Tokiomi's for summoning Gilgamesh. Look how that turned out for him. Also, that stuff costs prana. I would much rather have Cu Chulainn.
Theft of a royal treasure, theft of a national treasure, desecration of said treasure, etc.
They would know... how? Will they hunt us down based on an anonymous tip? Also, it's a moot point since Kusanagi is probably the least reliable catalyst for Yamato Takeru you could think of. At the very least, Orochi, Susanoo, Himiko, and every Japanese Emperor of note can be summoned using it. It is also the one most difficult to actually get since I don't think the Ise Shrine Complex is a mundane location in the Nasuverse. Literally any other item connected to Yamato Takeru would be a better option.

I've never heard of that rule, I'll need to do some digging.

...Actually, now that F/GO is out, Koujirou is now also techniqually a French spirit due to being part of that Demon Slaying Trio during the Plot of Grand Order.
It also gave him an Anti-Demon and Anti-Dragon bonus as well.

The gun slipped through your fingers...
Two Weeks into Turn
Writing down the name of the Motel you put it on a small wall in your room in the Clock Tower. With it just over two months since Waver got his command seal stolen, things were still a little tense. You knew that it was possibly a risk to stay in the Clock Tower, but you didn't have a chance to move your ProtoFrame to Japan do to it not being finished at the time. You had some ideas on how to develop that, but you would be taking a little while for that one to be finished.

As it is you had found a Motel to use as a secondary base while in Japan for the war, on the off chance that something happened to your house. You had also found a different place for where you would be while the museum heist was going on. You were using your connections right now to find a thief who could break into and steal the gun, and you were hoping to find someone that could make a replica to give put in its place.

You sighed as you looked at your notes for the ProtoFrame, you were were hoping that you would have the funds to get it done. With the expenses that you were spending on the thief, you had no idea if you would be able to finish what you were planing on doing with the project that you have going.

Time to get to work...

Three Weeks into Turn

You looked over your notes, with this line of experimentation...

You think that you should be able to get the ProtoFrame finished within the next few months. With the frame finished you should be able to get to work on the armor, which you can only hope will give you enough protection against the weakest of servants. Thought that was all theoretical at this point, you still needed to attach the two parts of the frame together. It shouldn't take to long, but it would take some time to gather the resources to do so.

You shake your head as you place your notes down on your desk for now, you would need to spend quite some time to finish that and you had some work to do. For now you needed to send out feelers so that you can find a thief for your job. No matter how much you wanted to finish right now, the armor could wait for now.

Two Month into Turn
"So, your wanting me to steal the gun of Oda Nobunaga?"

You looked at the screen of the computer that you were speaking with. The man or women on the other side was very professional about this entire thing, refusing to meat you in person. From what you had been told, this thief was rather experienced and had done a few museum thefts in the past.

Unfortunately they were expensive, and that was cutting into your research money. You had manged to get the two pieces of the armor to go together, you were just needing to finish up some of the runes that power the damn thing.

"Yes, I was told that you would be able to get it. I have gotten a replica made to make the time between the heist and the discovery take longer."

"A switch out job? Huh, all right. I'll bite. I'll forward a location that you can send the agreed upon payments and fake gun to."

With that the connection was closed, leaving you to look at the blank screen. You didn't trust them, but they were necessary for you to get the gun.

Two Months and Two week into Turn
You relaxed as best you could in your workshop at the clock tower. Things were starting to calm down around the clock tower, but from what you had heard while talking with others made you certain that both Waver and Lord El-Melloi have managed to preform there summonings by now. Thankfully Lord El-Melloi seemed to be intelligent enough to realize the danger of staying in the Clock Tower while one of his enemies was so close, so he was looking for an estate over in Japan. He was claiming that he wanted to get away from the students and focus on some of his studies.

Anyways, the thief that you hired should be finishing there preparations soon, so it won't be long before you have the gun. While you had initially been unsure if it had been a smart idea to hire a Magus to do the job, you eventually decided that it would pay of in the end and they were less likely to actually get caught.

Now all you had to do was wait for the thief to report back on the mission.

Three Months into Turn
"I'm sorry, but I have unfortunate news to give to you. When checking the gun.... well it was odd. Structurally it was identical to the gun that you were wanting me to steal, it was exactly the same! But it's history made absolutely no sense! It was just... There! The wood, the steel, all of it! It just... spontaneously came into existence!"

You could here a sigh from the other side of the screen, all the while you were gritting your teeth in frustration. This wasn't good...

"Could you tell when it was... Made? Came into existence?"

"A year, maybe two years ago. Damn, this is a pain. Look, don'e bother sending the final parts of the fee. I was hired to get the gun and I couldn't. If you ever find it's location then contact me, I'll get it and then take the final part of the fee.... Actually, if there is anything that you want stolen like this, get in touch. I'll take the second part of the original payment as payment for any other artifact that you would like to be stolen."

There was another sigh from the other side, before they closed the call.

End of Turn

You looked at the metal hand that you had set up to act as your own hand, as it wrapped around the small block of concrete. With just a single thought you squeezed your metal hand and crushed the small stone into dust.

You grind at your success. You had finally managed to get the Frame perfectly constructed!

The metal encased your body and gave you a good half a meter, though it was closer to two feet for those that use that system. Stepping to the side as you turned your body, you could hear the loud thunk, as you moved with the massive weight from the armor. You looked at the pieces of the armor that you had designed for the frame and that were laying about on the floor.

Unfortunately there was a slight error in the connection to your nerves, making it so that it would not be connected to your armor properly. It would take a just a few weeks of research and your would manage to fix it. At that point you would probably be able to stand up to the weakest of servants. Getting into a melee fight with ether an Assassin or a Caster would be something that you could possibly win. Though the Caster would probably tear you to shreds with its magic, which you haven't even started to get any research on a good way to fend that off. That would be something for after you've managed to get the Mk I armor finished.

Slipping out of your armor you started to figure out what you would do for now. The only person that had a Command Seal that was in London right now was Waver, as Lord El-Melloi had left for that estate that he bought a couple of days ago. Unfortunately you had not gotten information on where it was in the city, but you should be able to track it down.

Currently have 3 total points

None -> Minor -> Slight -> Small -> Average -> Large -> Greater -> Major -> Total

Suspicion is a measure of how suspicious you are acting, and how much attention you are drawing to yourself.

Every master has a Suspicion rating, going from 0 (no one gives a shit) to 25 (The arch director is watching)

For every 5 Suspicion points across all the masters, Alert goes up.

Suspicion goes down for each turn slightly.

Alert is a measure of how much Everyone is realizing that shit is starting to go down.

If alert gets too high, Panic ensues, and people know that there are command seals about. Command seals that could very well be used to summon servants of their own.

The way I see it going anywhere near a museum of any kind when people are gearing up for a grail war is all but guaranteed to point out to any one paying attention that yes you are in fact a master. I also figure that redundancy is the best policy when dealing with the magus killer, we already have one base with a workshop and bounded fields that he is all but guaranteed to notice so the best way to counteract that is to have multiple backup bases with no magic at all so he can't in any way trace it back to us. Besides it's not like the bounded fields would really help much at the point.

I also don't want to get anywhere near the city until the time for the war has come or we have a servant, but really that's just common sense. Although we should make it a point to buy another house with a workshop and bounded fields next turn when we have more IP who knows we could probably trick the other masters into thinking it's our back up base. Gotta love a good shell game.

Since we already have some defense specced golem's I figure we might as well get some speed specced one's as well and since we don't really have the IP to spare on improving our power armor at the moment we might as well try and repair our signature mystic code.

We need to find that god damned gun no matter what we do not only because we are already so far down it's trail that it would be a waste to bail now but also because I doubt we could spare the IP it would take to do this all over again if we want to be fully prepared for the war and also because I have no desire what so ever to have an enemy summon Oda Nobunaga, that would be a fucking nightmare.
