Corporate Mook Quest

[X] Use the roof as a choke point.

remember that this thing is intelligent, if we blow up the stairs it might decide to try bringing down the building.

[X] Blow up the stairs.
[] Use the roof as a choke point.
The issue with this is that if this fails we have no further to retreat where as if we blow the stairs we can always try this as the next option.
Also can we please ask our company for some better gear if these are the types of enemies we're expected to fight our guns aren't going to cut it.

Goodbye to the stairs (and probably a good chunk of the building)

You flag down a man from your squad and jab a finger down the steps. "You see those stairs?"

"You don't want to see them?"

"Exactly." God you loved it when someone was on the same wavelength as you. It saved so much time. "Grab whatever charges you can from everyone and set them up. We'll cover you."

The operative takes a look down the stairwell and considers for a few moments before nodding. Wasting no time, he solicits a few extra charges from your squad before heading down to rig up the wall with explosives. The remaining members of your small force starting to edge their ways closer to the door upon seeing what he was doing.

It was almost insulting actually. It wasn't like you had planned to blow up them up with the stairs after all.

Still under fire, the monster suddenly roared out and tried to rear its head back. The way that its jaw kind of just fell off the rest of its mouth to reveal its throat was mildly disturbing but you were somewhat more worried about that rising green glow inside it. Only somewhat though.

Even if a good chunk of its outer body was armoured, its face was not. And just like its face, the inside of its throat was definitely soft and squishy. So predictably, with it making itself a big, easy target like that, you all decided to shoot it. You think someone might have even lobbed a grenade down as well for good measure.

Unfortunately you don't have time to see the damage done though the screams did plenty for your imagination. Your explosives guy had returned and seeing all charges set, you shout, "Fall back! We're blowing the stairs!"

You hear a couple of snickers but that's quickly squashed as the monster, once more, roars though this time it's noticeably weaker. No more back talk was forthcoming as what remained of your force quickly vacated the stairwell while the creature was still down. Those at the top leaving last as they continued to provide suppressive fire even if it sounded more like potshots.

Once everyone was out, you gave the signal.
You could feel the entire building shake as your man detonated the charges. The tiny room housing the stairwell literally bursting apart and sizable cracks were growing in that corner of the roof. It held on only for a few seconds more a good chunk of the roof plus at least parts of three floors tore itself off the office building.

"Echo One, we've received reports of an explosion. Is the VIP safe?" It was your normal comm guy, replacing the sinister corporate guy again.

"VIP is safe." you say, actually checking up on him after the fact. Shaken, probably bruised and was currently ranting off to one of your men was stoically ignoring him. "Where's our chopper?"

"ETA one minute. You should be able to see it soon."

True enough, with just a bit of searching you see two faint outlines all too slowly making their way towards you. "Right, keep an eye out in case the thing tries climbing its way out… or grew wings or something."

"There's no way that it-"

"Don't even finish that."

Thankfully, it either was dead or couldn't climb out as the minute passed by without incident.

You and your men piled into the helicopters easily enough, eyes still watching the torn off roof warily. The trip back itself passed by without much words, you guessed it was kind of sombering comparing how cramped the helicopter was less than an hour ago to how comfy it was now.

Trinity Security Services had commandeered the local airport for 'search and rescue' purposes. Guess even the head office knew this was too big to cover up and they were now switching tactics. You could see it now, Swindon hit by terror bio attack! Trinity deploys search and rescue! And there were actually people gullible enough to fall for that.

In any case, as soon as you landed, you were pulled aside along with the scientist for 'interrogation'. Thankfully, you weren't the vic- subject. Just a witness and security for good measure. Though with the airfield crawling with T.S.S, you don't know where he could even escape to.

"So Executive Rhoades has been doing this little 'perfect human' project of his for years now?"

"Yes, yes! The man was delusional I tell you. Said he would use me for one of the experiments if I didn't cooperate." The scientist splurt out. "Swindon was the perfect place for this. Remote, small and enough dangerous things here that a few missing people now and again doesn't raise too much attention."

Thus far, Oliver Ashford has proven to be a sleaze more than willing to sell out the rest of their little conspiracy for safety. Smart enough to know to jump ship, unfortunately not smart enough to make sure he has somewhere to land first.

Right now, he was just spilling everything out and blaming everyone else but him for this mess, all on the vague promise of safety and no punishment for his actions. You figure, he'll be dead before the end of the week.

"And the monster in the office?"

The interrogator on the other hand was just another member of T.S.S. White, black hair, serious look. The tough, quiet type at a guess. Nothing really remarkable about him so far.

"One of Rhoades failed experiments. He must have sent it to kill me… and it would of! If you hadn't saved me."

"Mm." The interrogators gestures to you. "My colleague tells me that the monster seems to know your name. And that it had quite the hatred for you."

"It… it must have somehow remembered me from the experiments. I don't know."

The interrogator rapped his knuckles on the desk, "And what of the dead T.S.S in the reception? Know anything about them?"

"I… I thought they were you- I mean, Rhoades men! The monster probably turned on them." The scientist turned and shook his restraints in your direction. Raising his voice, he demanded, "Can we get this over with already. I want to be off this island as soon as possible."

"Just a few final questions before we can send you off." The interrogator reassured, his voice still calm and soothing. "The cause of this outbreak. You don't know anything about it?"

"I already told you I was in the office when it happened."

"How did you know to get into the safe room then? No one else joined you despite others having access."

"Security was warning everyone of maniacs with scales and spikes growing on them attacking the town. Being in the know, it was pretty obvious what was happening."

"And you know absolutely nothing of what caused this?"

"I told you, I was-"

"The head office is looking for a scapegoat right now." The interrogator interrupted, voice taking a dark turn. "Rhoades will take the blame in the end of course but head office wants someone's head on a pike now. Someone they can point the blame at."

"I… there might be something." Ashford admits, because of course he does.

[ ] There was a detective.
He was some transfer to Swindon and he started looking too deep into the missing persons. So we kidnapped his daughter to keep him quiet.

[ ] There was a mole.
A federal one as well. One of our best minds before he decided to chicken out and sell us all out to the government.

[ ] There was a kid.
Some teen from Japan. He was actually stupid enough to wander out and get lost in the wildlife. He had it coming for him really.

Go ahead and pick your poison.

[X] There was a detective.

This could possibly not go terribly. And also go awfully terrible. Amazing either way.
