Corporate Mook Quest

[X] Maybe try to talk to her?

Hey, it'd either put us on top of her murder casually list, or leave it out!

[x] Maybe try to talk to her?

Hello, Miss. Would you be interested in an appointment with a manicurist?

"HQ, we've sighted the room and uh… a currently non-hostile… mutant? I'm going to see if we can get the room open, do you have the pin for me?" You say in a low, hushed voice, keeping eyes and rifles on the monster crying in the corner.

"Say again? A mutant?"

"Experiment, infected, you know.... It looks kind of like that one from the incident in Spain last year."

"...Understood. The door will require your key card which has access loaded onto it and the pin One-Six-Three-Two-Two-Nine."

Well shit, you were the only one with the key card, the benefits of being the Echo leader. And getting up to the door also meant getting closer to the killing machine. Just great. Reluctantly, you pull your pointman aside and move up to take his place in the front.

"Get Two to set up in the room outside and have Three call the chopper back." You command, snapping a finger on the two men closest. "The rest of you, just make sure the thing doesn't end up jumping me."

After the row of affirmatives, you take a deep breath and cautiously make your way towards the safe room. Each step measured and steady, careful not to make any sudden noises. Nearing the door, you gain a better look at the creature.

It's back was still turned to you, almost like it was intentionally avoiding you. It would explain how it hasn't heard you yet. Then again, all the crazed mumbling it was doing probably wasn't helping it's hearing either. Did it even hearing anymore? You couldn't see any ears on it anymore.

You shake the thoughts off. There was better things to focus on. Like how there seemed to be bullets stuck in the thing's skin, unable to penetrate fully though. However, there was also clearly some that had gone through and a non-insubstantial pool of blood at its feet. Good to confirm that bullets could do something.

Soon enough, you arrive at the door. Safely and without alerting the monster, you could add.

Taking a quick glance at the keypad, you slowly press the first button and cringe as it emits a loud beep.

The mumbling stopped. The creature stirred. Its head began to turn.

Well shit.

Five successive beeps quickly followed and you practically slap your card on the scanner as the monster started to rise up. The door slides open. You see a messy room, files everywhere and dead computers. At the door is a balding man in a bloody lab coat. A wobbly knife in his hand.

"Keep b-"

You slap the knife out his hands with ease. The scientist tries to reel back to no avail as you take a hard grip on his forearm and yank him out of the room. Upon seeing him, the monster rears up and screams.

"ASHFORD!!!" the cry rings in your ears and was oozing with barely contained hatred.

"You didn't kill her first!?" the scientist screams at you, bewildered.

On the side, your men take the screaming as a signal to start shooting. And of course, the brute takes all the incoming fire like a champ. Raising its arms before itself, bullets slam into the hard skin, sparks flickering as some even just bounce off without doing harm. The only indication it was doing anything were the tiny, pained grunts that the creature made.

They part for you as you dash by, dragging along the idiot scientist that was still trying to escape your grip. Your men back up with you, taking turns spraying and then retreating a few steps back. Spying its prey escaping, the creature abandons its defensive posture and lunges forward with reckless abandon. Its head explodes with bursts of blood your men concentrated fire and its screams fill the office.

But that didn't stop it.

You make it to the door when the first scream hits you. You turn the corner just in time to see a torso, and only a torso, come flying at you only to splat just a metre to your right. You didn't stick around to see what happened next when the second scream came.

"HQ, we have a survivor and need immediate evac." you say between breaths as you barrel down the hall. "Two! We'll be reaching you in a few seconds. Get ready to light up the ugly bastard behind us."

For a second you hear only ragged breaths and the echoing steps of running men. Then came a thunderous boom, followed by the rough noise of peeling plaster and stone. The pounding footsteps followed soon after, each one drawing it closer to you.

"-top running you coward! I'm going to rip you a new as-"

You burst through what little remained of the broken glass door, scattering glass shards everywhere. Making a sharp turn, you turn back and see the rest of your squad limping, one literally, after you, now short three members. Could have been worse..

"A transport is en-route. ETA ten minutes. I presume the mutant turned hostile?"

You don't have the time to respond as you hear the creature slam into the door frame behind you, it's enormous bulk barely held in check by the steel frame. A volley of gunfire sounds and this time, the monster actually rears back, screeching in pain. Spread across the room were the men of Echo Two, guns blazing as they rained fire down on the reeling monster.

"Fall back to the heli pad once we're out. Three will cover you." You shout above the ruckus as you lead your squad towards the stairwell.

"Got it!" Echo Two calls back and then snickers. "I think we've this-"

From down the hall, a overly loud belch could be heard. What could only be described as a burning, yellow blob then came hurtling out. The operatives in the way tried to scramble out of its path. Tried.

The two at front got the worst of it, the blob smacking them dead on the chest and splattering the stuff over their face. The man behind them didn't fare any better, enough of the yellow goop slipping through to catch him in mid crouch. The three of them dropped without even a scream, their corpses sizzling as the acid began to eat through their armour.

"I should stop thinking..." You faintly hear Echo Two mumble behind you as you stagger out into the stairwell. You see the last squad of your force on the next and last flight of stairs, leaning against the railings with rifles trained on the door. If you could see their faces, they'd probably be pretty grim right now.

"W...wait!" the scientist, who had been strangely quiet and compliant until now, splurted out. "You're… you're not Executive Rhoades's me-"

"More running, less talking." you cut him off, pulling the idiot, who had stopped to ask, up the last steps and shoved him outside. Tapping the next man from your squad, "Get him outside and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid."

Leaning over the railing, you gaze back down to the top floor entrance. Seemed like only a single member of Echo Two got it out in time, the man about halfway up to you. That said you could still hear gunfire an-

Another man fell out of the door, caught only by the railing. He desperately reaches his arm out for help but before anyone could react, the wall exploded behind him. The monster slams its way through and catches the man in its charge. The two of them blast through the railing and fall a couple of floors down before catching themselves on another section of stairs.

You couldn't see properly but you were sure that was another man down. That said, this did buy you a bit of time. "HQ, how far out is evac?"

"Six minutes out." A pause before another voice continued, much deeper and sinister. "Echo, I need you to identify the survivor."

"We heard the monster chasing us call it Ashford sir." You quickly reply, adding on a bit of formality just in case it was one of the higher ups that took over. From how posh he sounded, he probably was one of the executives or something.

"A bald man? In his fifties?"

"Yessir." You reply before pointing down to the monster that was beginning to pick itself back up, a massive puddle of gore underneath it. "Keep it down there."

"You are to keep that man alive for extraction at all costs. The board has some questions for Oliver Ashford." The voice continues over the gunfire. "Failure is not an option."

Well of course it fucking wasn't. What the hell did he think they were going to be doing? Just hand over the scientist over to the murder machine that wanted to kill them all?

"Understood sir. We won't fail you."

"See that you do not."

Tempting as it was to go yessir and get the final word in, you didn't really have the time to. The monster was, once again, shrugging off all the bullets. Fortunately, due to sheer size, it was making slow progress up the stairs. Its feet unable to balance properly on steps too small for them, it had to duck underneath and expose itself to falling again for every corner it took. It even tried to use the railings for support but ended up just tearing them off.

Nonetheless, it was making slow but steady progress up the stairs. And that really worried you.

What to do…

[ ] Keep firing.
Though the bullets aren't doing much damage, it was definitely slowing it down. No need for any planning, just keep doing what you're doing and pray it keeps her down enough for the chopper to arrive.

[ ] Use the roof as a choke point.
Echo Two, bless their souls, taught you that shooting her when she's stuck in a choke point can buy a lot of time. That and she couldn't just brute force her way past concrete easily. The door to the roof could serve and the area leading to it being stairs, she can't get enough space to run up.

[ ] Blow up the stairs.
You have explosives, you should use them. The monster can't use the stairs if there aren't any. No telling what it might do to the structural support of the building though... Eh, now that you've got someone important, who cared about the rest of the place anyways?

[X] Use the roof as a choke point.

Probably has super jumping powers, not gonna risk that then.

[x] Use the roof as a choke point.

It's some kind of a failed supersoldier experiment, blowning up stairs will hardly stop her

[x] Use the roof as a choke point.
rather use something that i know that works, over something that should work.

[x] Blow up the stairs.

Well, last I heard Echo Three were holding position on the stairs, but orders are orders. At all costs, right?

[ ] Keep firing.
We know its not working. Its dumb to do something you know doesn't work.

[ ] Use the roof as a choke point.
See part 1. All a chokepoint does is make it advance slower when under fire. This falls under Doesn't Work the moment you need to reload because its advancing under fire still

[ ] Blow up the stairs.
It does not fly. It may or may not climb.
If it climbs, then an assault of bullets would slow it down more than when its on level ground.
If it JUMPS, then GOOD. Because it can't exert strength while jumping and now we can apply Newton: F=MA
Shoot it in the air and watch it miss the jump

Thankfully, they'll have time to get away if you do plan to blow the place. If they die while you're setting up, well... that's a sacrifice you're willing to make.
