You're a comic book publisher at the start of the 1960s. You decided to take the plunge and start a business making superhero comic books.

You don't have too much experience however there is one thing your good at!

Choose 1:

[]Charisma:
Plain and simple charisma that allows you to make deals and keep everything together.(+5 to rolls involving selling things, negotiations, and handling of employees.)

[]Good art: You make your comics look good! It's not the best, but no one can say it looks anywhere below decent.(+8 to rolls involving art.)

[]Good writing: You make dialogue and the story more cohesive. To be honest it's not half bad!(+5 to dialogue and story plot.)

[]Patience: You know when to restart something from scratch.(Allows 1 free reroll per turn.)

Finally what's your company called?

[]Write in?

Alright than! With the closing of my last quest(Coughs) I've decided to try a comic book publisher quest! I've enjoyed the ones I've read so might as well throw in my hat.

This quest will rely on Superheroes, vigilantes, villains, etc. That you submit! Just throw around ideas and we can vote on them if we want them!

I do want to say that being a woman is hard mode, because this is the 60s... Do I need to say more? So if you want a harder quest go for that!

Besides that have fun! Use plans! Also we roll 1d100s for everything!

I love struggle and hard mode.

Depends on how the mechanics play out, but I expect no. Throw down as many stories as possible, see which ones stick.

Then we try and tie them in later.

Comic book making(Rolls)
All roles can be improved by giving in-depth descriptions relating to said roll.

We make a character design for both civilian costume and super costume. Than I roll for how good it looks. Depending on how well these rolls do, it might give bonuses to certain parts of the comic book involving the character.

Civilian design:

Super design:

We roll for all of these per story we make. So every issue of comics we make we reroll these.

Art:

-Layout/Backgrounds

-Characters

-Dynamic art/Action scenes

-Coloring

Writing:

-Main characters

-Support characters

-Story

-Setting

-Dialogue

All of these are valuable and are rolled with 1d100s. There are certain modifiers that affect the above. Like designing a city in-depth would give bonuses to layout/background.

There's also cover art which is a separate roll.

Note: I'll add more but this is just to say what we roll for when making comics.

[X] Plan We'll definitely not get sued...
-[X]Woman
-[X]Sophia Cohen
-[X]Good art
-[X]Nike Comics

That +8 for art is just too tempting. Also from the other comic book publisher quests I've read I don't think there's been a woman MC so why not.

Pain and powers, please!
Well than! There we go.

Also we are using DYC as our initials. As in DestinY Cradle.

This won't do anything story wise, just saying so we don't get sued.

Dang it…I wanted to get sued.
Can we negotiate it to be DSC instead?

That's another comic book publisher initials. So nope.
…Really? Weird.
It probably wasn't going to work anyway.
Its the start of the 1960s if that means before 1964 then arguably we'd be the one launching the law suit, not Nike.
Ah, I meant for DC, not Nike. After all, there's plenty of commonalities in names of companies sometimes, and Nike is just a word. It could be reasoned that it was just a coincidence, rather than trying to hijack one another's fame.

AND THEN WE SUE WHEN THEY LEAST EXPECT IT!

For making characters!
So yes I took I took this from ambit. It's perfect for this. The absolutely required is the base and once you complete the base it's ready for use. Remember more details means bonuses to rolls for said characters or comics said characters are in.

Absolutely required: Name, Personality, Backstory/Origin, Powers and Abilities, Appearance (preferably not just a picture, but a written description)

Would make me feel better: Personal goals and motivations, Relationships, Likes/Dislikes, Location Notes

Not necessary but go ahead if you'd like to include them: Character archetypes, Design Notes/Reasoning, Where you'd like to take the character, Potential places/time-frame to introduce

Absolutely do not: Plagiarize, NSFW, Creepy gross stuff (of the genuine or unironic kind), etc. Use your common sense.

Mucus-strosity…body Blaze…Heh.
(I propose that for launch, we each show up with 3 different hero ideas in a completely seperated universe. Preferably, their power levels aren't universal, galactic, solar system, planetary, or even continent.)

"You're crazy as shit you know that?" My good friend Bob said that to me as soon as I began telling him my plan. Didn't even get to the specifics of the hiring part.

"I mean really this is something I want to do, I've loved comic books since I was 5. It's the only thing that I'm interested in doing!"

"I'll do it on one condition. I get a 30 minute lunch break."

"Deal! Damn that's your only condition? I didn't even get to tell you about the pay." He simply grinned at me.

"I'll do it for any pay, I hate my job at the mill and I can't take much more. Besides I get to help you out, so why not?"

I grimaced at the mention of that dreadful paper mill. That place was full of fumes from all the chemicals, it'd kill you slowly. 8 hour shifts, no breaks, managers when they were there would treat everyone like shit, literal hell, yet people still worked there despite it all. Being poor with little food did wonders to motivate people.

He seemed to just relax his body "You want me to work the machines right? I can do that no problem. I could also get some others who want out of the mill, but I gotta ask, what's the plan?"

"I've thought about it and I'm going to give myself a month to do my first issue."

"That little time? You're one person you know that right? I mean have you even come up with the characters yet-you already have haven't you?" He saw my face and just sighed.

"Ok I get it I should give myself more time, but I've been waiting and wanting this for all my life… so yes I have already made some character concepts." It was my turn to sigh.
"I'm only doing 50-60 pages as I don't want to kill myself trying to do a 100 pages or something alone. I was thinking-

How many protagonists do you want for issue 1?(Each protagonist means one storyline dedicated to them.):

[]one: Yes I believe I can do one character. It might seem stupid but I'm confident that I can do it.(60 pages for one character)

[]Two: It gives me plenty of space while also allowing me to not put all my eggs in one basket.(30 pages for 2 characters)

[]Three: Gives me room for doing whatever I want and I can flesh out some character ideas.(20 pages for 3 characters)

[]Four: Pushing it just a bit, but I can get out that many with enough room for all of them to have equal time.(15 pages for 4 characters)

-about that many." He just nods while sitting back.

"I'll get some more people for the press, I'm sure that I can grab a couple willing to take a plunge."

Gain 3 printing laborers and 1 rotary printing press.
For every 3 laborers they cost 1 wealth per printing session. Paper costs 1 wealth.
Every month costs 1 wealth in bills.
Rotary printing press allows up to 10 wealth being generated a turn.

Back at the renovated warehouse…

Angelica Simmons was planning out some protagonists for the first issue.

Brainstorm some ideas. Don't vote on them yet, we do that next. I'll list the available choices(Ones you suggested) and have everyone vote on the ones they like.

For now however.
Choose 1:

[]Settings are important:
The background of both the character and the place they are in are very important.

[]Characters are important: The characters design, dialogue, direction, how they carry themselves etc. are very important.

Use a plan even with only 2 options!

I've decided to allow 1 reroll for our first issue, in the future it will rely entirely on your suggestions, details, ideas, etc. to make the rolls higher.

Got a question? Ask!

[X]Plan Uno
[X]Three: Gives me room for doing whatever I want and I can flesh out some character ideas.(20 pages for 3 characters)
[X]Characters are important: The characters design, dialogue, direction, how they carry themselves etc. are very important.

So should we start with 3 characters to have a big 3 like DC?

Also put the X in all of them.

Oh also it's entirely up to you! I will warn slightly that some characters may fail. Hopefully not but who knows.

Edit: Realized that you were talking to others in the thread… I'm dumb sometimes.

On a little excursion out into the woods with her friends she got separated and happened upon a large, seemingly never-ending pit in the middle of the woods. She then felt someone push her into the pit and darkness took over her. Lilly woke up the next day in her bed, but it wasn't really her bed. Her parents that greeted her for brekfast weren't really her brekfast, and her friends who asked what happened the other day weren't really her friends. Lilly was in another world that was similar to her own, but oh so obviously different. Little things like the fence surrounding her neighbors yard having pointed tips instead of rounded ones, or the boy across the street riding a blue bike instead of a red one. Lilly realized suddenly what had happened, the pit had transported her into a another world, and she needed to find that pit again if she wanted to make it back home.

Relationships: Mother Sarah, Father Kent, friends Sally, Macey, and Amber
Combat Style: Running away mostly, but will use pepper spray and taser.
