Reign of Queen Lindwurm - Count Rathalos
Lindy makes sure there are boundries between her and Duke Baal. His wife would be devastated if anything happened between them.
Caen County is conquerred by King Nyx. Duke Baal concentrates on the free Duchy that holds Navarra to their south.
Chaplain Wyrm reports Senlis is Goldclawist now
Lindy wants to be friends with Count Rathalos who is friends with Duke Baal
But becomes bitter rivals with him instead. They hate each other.
Lindy choses a new Spymaster, she can't stand Rathalos being in the position a moment longer.
Duke Barney goes to Sancerre, Rathalos' county, to see what trouble can be done.
The Lords of Moony approve the Limited Crown Authority law. Finally.
Duke Dovah's spymaster is lurking around trying to find a claim on Saintonge county.

Lindy

After they stepped away and Duke Baal went inside, things changed. She had told him that she couldn't bear seeing Duchess Dhriti go through something like that. She was upset with Ryujin, but upset didn't mean it was right to do such a thing.

The next time she went to a Duke Baal party, she tried to become friends with Count Rathalos, her spymaster, who Duke Baal was also friendly with. It ended with barely disguised hostility. Count Rathalos was a vile menace, and he controlled both Auxerre and Sancerre counties.

She would find the wurm's food on Rathalos, and dig a large pit for his doom! If Duke Baal insisted on inviting the man, that was enough for her to not come.

The Lords and Ladies of Moony had largely not been fond of giving Queen Lindwurm even a bit more authority, but soon after the bitter taste came to her regarding Rathalos, she gained sufficient votes among her vassals to legitimize Low Crown Authority law.

Besides removing Count Rathalos as Spymaster and placing Duke Barney in the position, and telling him to spy in Sancerre, there was little happening in the kingdom at all.

She spent many nights in Lusignan, once again spending time with Ryujin. And for the most part, her anger with him faded over time. He was still crazy over her. He had never been a Lord before, so it had all been exciting and new to him at first.

854 was a quiet year until the day when Duke Dovah, a vassal of Rainbowscaleine, was snooping around in Saintonge via his chancellor, trying to get a claim on the county.

Vote on how to handle to foreign Duke's chancellor trying to usurp Saintonge?

[ ] Make him disappear...

[ ] Try to bribe him

[ ] I better let it be for now.

Reign of Queen Lindwurm - Princess Libelle interrupt
"Make him disappear" failed.
Honored Duke Baal by allowing him to be guardian of Tintaglia
Baal praises Chaplain Wyrm him to Lindy, Certainly a more amiable character than the old spymaster.
Lindy gets better at working with the ledger, and the hoard is increasing more (gains Aspiring Trader)
Libelle's egg looked sickly for a bit but now is better.
War with Rainbowscaleine for La Marche county
Duke Baal's army sea landing in Bordeaux.
Battle with Rainbowscaleine rebels (Duke Baal routed, arriving force lead by Icefyre wins the day).
Battle with Rainbowscaleine army (Queen Lindy gets an eye wound / black eye during the fighting, loses Craven trait).
Princess Libelle breaks out of her shell, becomes an adult.
Discovered there was a pre-existing bethrothal for her.

War

After the incursion of Queen Grey Ghost's chancellor in Saintonge, Ryujin presented proof of a true and strong claim that he deserved satisfication, in obtaining La Marche county. The county was just south of Lindy's capital in Tours, but held by a Duke vassal of Queen Grey Ghost of Rainbowscaleine.

Her commanders were ready to rally their banners once more. Queen Grey was in the middle of a war against some of her vassals seeking independence as well.

The bulk of the rallying forces were on the mainland and headed to La Marche immediately.

But Duke Baal mustered 1300 men and 38 galleys to convey them also.

They faced no apparent opposition, at La Marche, or where Duke Baal's forces landed in Bordeaux.

Some commanders split off to Bourbon to avoid overstressing La Marche county's provisions. So siege was started in La Marche with Mayor Typhos, Bourbon with Count Icefyre and Bordeaux with Duke Baal's own commanders.

In the absence of any Rainbowscaleine Kingdom soldiers to fight, there was no climactic battles to convince the Grey Ghost to surrender, instead there was a long time of sieging by the three armies.

Finally, the enemy was found in the south in Foix, but Duke Baal's army, waiting, sieging Grey Ghost's capital while the other armies joined for the fight.

But the seemingly easy war against Queen Grey Ghost was made more complicated by the rebel faction opposed to her, which had a 2300 strong army and was marching into Toulose, forcing Duke Baals army to retreat and gather with the rest of the army.

Duke Baals forces were not able to escape in time but were outnumbered instead until Lindy's other two armies could join the fight. The Duke's army was routed and fled, but hours later Lindy and her armies, lead by Icefyre and Typhos, defeated the Rebel force.

In Foix, Count Icefyre lead the armies, but she was present in the battle against Queen Grey Ghost's smaller force. Once again, in a difficult position, her counts wanted to save her from battle, but she did not back down and fought Mayor Glaedyr in Claw against Claw fighting, taking a horrible scrape to her right eye, but in the end defeating her foe, and finding the rest of the battle was becoming a victory.

The wound would not be an easy thing to deal with, but she felt she had proved anyone who doubted her courage or strength wrong.

After these battles, the war returned to siege as Lindy's combined forces sieged the capital of Queen Grey Ghost.

Lindy received a messanger reporting that Princess Libelle had broken out of her dragon egg. Her husband Ryujin reported that Libelle had been promised to the son of Duke Ryujin of Firesen, but there was some concern whether the betrothal had been matrilineal.

Lindy's marriage was matrilineal, which meant her own family claimed the children of her and Ryujin. If Libelle's marriage was instead patrilineal, then Duke Ryujin's family would claim their descendents and eventually the Kingdom itself. It was an unusual thing to have so many daughters and for them to stay in the family instead of being married off to other families, but not that weird, after all. With all the queens in power in the region, they outnumbered the Kings.

Benedict was a weird name for a dragon anyway. And he wasn't even out of his egg yet. Had she lost her mind when this betrothal was promised?

This betrothal apparently existed when the world was generated. It appears to not be matrilineal which means it's game over if Libelle inherits and is married to Benedict. Benedict is 12, so it would be 4 more years before they could be married anyway.

What should be done with Princess Libelle's betrothal?

[ ] Break the betrothal between Princess Libelle and Benedict of Firesen now

[ ] Wait for Benedict to grow up to decide.

The war is still ongoing. The lack of many battles, means Lindy will have to siege a lot of Queen Grey Ghost's counties and avoid fighting the Queen's rebel vassals to win, it could take another year to two years to resolve. There's also a powerful Elective Succession faction again, and several vassals who don't like Queen Lindy.

The quiet time is over!

Reign of Queen Lindwurm - Troubles in Moony
Ok, it looks like we have some weirdness because Lindy's husband has a title of his own. I'm going to run with it as an additional source of drama unless it gets too bad.

Princess Libelle was living with her dad.
Invited her to our court, then broke betrothal.
Elective Succession faction at 117%, war is dragging on.

Lindy

Endless sieges were dull and uncomfortable. It was cold outside, and the inhabitants of the local keep still launched small attacks on their group from time to time. Maintaining or scrounging food supplies was a daily urgency. Count Rathalos was here with his army, and resisting the desire to kill him was also a daily urgency.

Now that Princess Libelle was born, she missed her. She'd never seen Libelle fly off into the moonlit sky.

Through past wars and the beginning of this one, she had never pondered why her husband wasn't here. She almost forgot he was marshal. Battle and manuever were both thrilling to her. Seeing the situation unfold like one of the board games she played against Duke Baal was fun, and the fights were a thrill in her innermost dragon.

Now, it was endless days trying to take control of Queen Grey Ghost's land one county at a time, and with a large Rainbowsaleine Revolt faction nextdoor, so they couldn't split up and work in many different places.

Finally, after manuevering her army around the Revolt army and back into La Marche, she put Icefyre in charge and planned to fly home for a quick three day visit.

Her excitement as she saw her castle, and landed just in front of it was splashed with a dose of cold water when she entered.

"My Queen," said her personal servant.

"Where is Princess Libelle?" she said, not sure if the girl had went off exploring or something else.

"Your husband took all the daughters except for Princess Tintaglia."

Lindy went to the warming hut and opened up the beautiful chest containing the eggs. The box was large and the hinges creeked as she opened it. Only Tintaglia was nestled into her spot, as the miss had told her.

"OK, I'll go see him. I hope Princess Libelle has continued her learning?" she asked.

"King Ryujin took control of her education. She's been staying over there since she took first flight."

Her Ryujin had overstepped again! After they had that lovely reunion and agreed to work together again. She was uncouth and didn't both to say goodbye, or walk out of the keep before leaping into the sky.

There was a betrothal from years ago that she didn't know about and now King Ryujin was taking her family away. The marshal sat on his butt while she endured long sieges?

Her spy senses were pulsing red in her mind. He was a dragon without any noble origin, and that didn't both her. But now he was acting like the worst of the nobles. Or maybe it was nothing?

In the moment in which she rushed towards Duke Ryujin's keep, it's defenders prepared to respond to the intruder, but a moment later identified her. Her husband, who fancied the title of Duke more than being her King, was standing there with a woman.

It only took a moment to identify her as Princess Libelle, her daughter! She was a shade darker, into brown rather than gold. Her eyes were as pure gold, her wings demurre and expressive. For only a moment, her anger at Ryujin was swept away.

"Momma!"

Lindy tumbled backwards as her daughter flew into her, and they tumbled out the opening that she had flown in through. Libelle stumbled for a second, and Lindy was about to fly down and save her, but then the girl caught flight and with her new wings flew side by side with her.

"I have to go talk with your dad, but I have a question for you."

"What's the question momma?" she said between breathing heavily to keep up with Lindy.

Lindy slowed down to the slowest flight she could manage, and said. "Do you want to come and stay in the momma's house and be a princess?"

"Dad said I had to get ready, because I'm already destined to meet this boy, but I went to see him and he's still just an egg. He's not even singing like I did when I was inside."

"What were you singing, sweetie?" Lindy asked.

"I don't know what it was, but I kinda did."

"The moon calls to you daughter. We will find a much better husband for you. You don't have to rush, we can look together."

When she was settled down with her husband, Libelle practicing flying outside, she angrily spoke to him.

"Did you arrange this betrothal that was supposedly set up just after Libelle was laid?" she asked.

"No. Duke Firesen made some good points. There's not a lot of good dragons her age or older. Benedict will make a good husband. I brought the kids here and took control of their affairs because you are always gone, either with Duke Baal or at war," Ryujin said.

"I already asked Libelle, she wants to come back to the Palace. I will decide. Did Duke Firesen pay you to ensure our grandchildren would be of his family name!?"

"What are you talking about?" he said, mystified.

"You idiot! Do you even read the betrothal contract! It's not matrilineal, which means Libelle and Benedict's children would belong to Benedict's family. Which means the Kingdom of Moony would go to the Duke's family. You better watch out. And why is my marshal home, when war is on! Why I have not asked you before?"

"I'm still on the same mission you gave me years ago! To raise troops in Tours!" he yelled back.

"Are you dumb! Of course you should lead my armies when we go to war, else why am I paying you as a marshal?"

"You are the real idiot Lindwurm. Your vassals are conspiring to force elections on you. Then they'll decide who becomes the next King, not you!"

This was a disaster. She left immediately, stopping to talk with Libelle, and it took all of her patience to fly at her daughter's speed. The Elective Succession group was unusually active again. And the battle and long sieges had sapped the strength of her own regiments.

Of course, her hated enemy Rathalos was involved in this, but Duke Firesen was also flying his flag with the others to demand a change in the law of successions. She had to look after the Moon and the Moon's friend, her family lineage.

She took as much care as she could to get Libelle settled in back home. She would have flying lessens daily and training in her expertise. Her own husband had already enlisted her as his new spymaster, but that was gone since she came to live in the palace. She made sure the girl would learn from the best about all of the intrigues, although she regretted the loss of innocence such teachings brought. Perhaps Libelle would become her new spymaster in time, one she could trust.

When she returned to the siege of the towns of La Marche, she confided in those gathered about her troubles. What should she do about her husband, and about those clamoring for elective succession, and this war that never seemed to end.

Duke Baal took a diplomatic approach, as expected. He had recovered from their experience on the parapet of his keep over a year ago.

"I support the Moony line continuing, but there are other vassals, even among us here, who want to see an Electorship. If you want to hold them off, you should seek peace with Queen Grey Ghost, and then offer to help some of the faction members with their gold needs. I don't think Count Rathalos will be swayed, but he alone can't make you change the laws of succession."

Count Rathalos took that as an invitation to speak. "Concede, wurm! Concede to our demands. Let us vote on the next King! If you concede to us then you can keep your gold and keep this war going."

Count Icefyre had a different opinion: "Save your hoard, your dragoness, for mercenaries. There are many who would fight for you for gold, they can deal with any rebel counts who want to overturn the centuries of Moony custom. Don't waste our effort. We need to attack the rebels to our south and gain control over this war completely."

On the question of what to do with her husband, Duke Baal recommended making Ryujin a commander, and stepping back from command herself. "If he has to lead your armies, you can rebuild your relationship with Princess Lindy and the others."

Icefyre recommended censuring him, and revoking his ducal title.

Rathalos jested, "I know you are plotting to kill me. Put him on the list too. Your little baby spy can help you."

Need to find a Husband for Libelle.

Lindy

She lead her army to fight the Rainbowscaleine rebels at Limosin. She didn't realize that they would go after her personally, and once again she found herself alone and in danger.

She could have ran, she wanted to run from all the stress and rage she was experiencing, but she faced the enemy, in the time before her own soldiers arrived, taking hit after hit. Blood flowed down her wings and her face, and she went into the next siege with an incredible exhaustion and pain.

When she found out that Princess Taynelth had hatched, and once again, her husband immediately betrothed her without considering the line of Moony, she was exhausted and angry. She apologized to the commanders and her soldiers for the outburst. But a month later, she found out Taynelth was actually married, with regular inheritance rights. Moony would lose whatever lands were given to her. Not only that, but she had no idea what Taynelth's children would be like.

At the battlefront, she didn't have much information, but it seemed that Taynelth's husband was an elephant. She loved Duke Baal and his people, but still it wasn't known whether two of her grandchildren would be elephants and the third a dragon, or some other bizarre circumstance.

She had promised Libelle to give her the chance to meet several suitable suitors, and be there through it all. Yet he she was, trudging through the mud again.

She tried to pull away her husband's ducal title, but the elders back at the palace told her because they were married, it would be pulling away her own title. If anyone tried to call her Duchess, she would kill them! But she couldn't do anything to get back at Ryujin yet. Had he lost his mind? Yet this was just the beginning.

In Armagnac, they were fighting a scrappy group of 32 soldiers, but fate must have been weaving against her, because she ended up humiliated on the ground, with her life in the hands of the enemy. How had she spurned the moon that it wrought such vengeance?

After Armagnac, and with Queen Grey Ghost not budging an inch despite rebels and Moony soldiers hounding her, she sat down with the Queen, and hammered out a peace deal. Her vassals were restless, and the winds were not blowing in her favor.

Libelle was so beautiful and lovely, when she saw her back at the palace. She could fly almost as fast as Lindy now, and she helped out running the everyday stuff in the palace. Lindy's mood could only be swayed so much though. She remembered that it was her husbands' claim on a county in the south that lead her into that horrible endless war.

The hoard was a comfort. Nearly 700 gold now.

Flying out to her husbands keep, she didn't even talk to him except briefly. He would no longer serve as marshal, since she had been the one fighting while he schemed.

She talked with Taynelth, expected she would move back home together with her husband, but her husband served as Chaplain for one of the Counts under Duke Baal, so she stayed with him. It didn't sit easy with her that her husband had backstabbed her and the family more effectively than he could with a knife.

She investigated getting a divorce through the Pope, but when her chaplain spread a few whispers about, it became clear that Ryujin was more liked by the Pope than she was. Not in a million years was the informal answer.

In the middle of the endless war down south, the Elective Succession faction had become very powerful, and now they demanded that the law be altered so a vote between herself and her vassals would determine the new King. She was certain not allowing that! She would ensure Libelle become queen. Resisting the demands, she sprang into action.

Demands

She began by paying the Mantuian company to join her in arms. Immediately, she set about organizing her forces before war actually started.

Rallying the troops

While the rebels were still gathering their forces, she rushed into Anjou with every dragon who had arrived in time. Quickly routing the disorganized forces there, she also defeated a second force who arrived into the county.

To her west were over four thousand dragons, to her north, 700, to her east, a thousand. She would be crushed if she didn't act rashly and attack each enemy separately.

Fierce Fighting

She wasn't able to catch the enemy in Maine, but they were fooled into attacking Duke Baal's arriving soldiers in Mortain, and then Lindy's force joined the fight and won the day.

She began to siege land in the main block of rebel territory, but she was forced to reluctantly make her husband one of the commanders, as most of her good commanders were on the other side, either vassals, or vassals of the rebels. She didn't have Count Icefyre because his liege had turned against her.

She couldn't resist the tempation to try to solve this immediately, and she lead her army against the Rebels in Vannes, but they could not match against the rebels, and they were routed fleeing back to the northeast.

Epic Battle

Lindy realized the leader of the revolt had a county up in the north, while the enemy army was in the west. She set up a position sieging his lands, in hope of getting a bargaining chip.

In the middle of civil war, she found her representatives back home had good news and opportunities for her. But also grave news and dour days too.

She still had over 400 gold in her hoard, even after spending a large chunk of that on the mercenary company. So when she heard of the opportunity to establish a trading expedition, she jumped at it.

Her new marshal Vlad had taken her husband's place in leading the army, so she was willing to go along with the expedition, as well as her steward Count Draco.

They traveled to the land of cats in the north. In a rare moment of channeling Duke Baal's skills, she recognized the delicate way to approach dinner and discussion of the agreement with the cat queen.

When Count Draco put his claw in his mouth, she apologized profusely, angering him, but ensuring good relations with the frozen kittylands. When the negotiations were over and the first return trip was made, she sold the foreign trade goods to her merchants and earned a tidy profit of 200 gold, of which 40 went to Draco. There would be ongoing opportunities for such trades.

Trade Agreement

The sad and dour news came soon after. She'd always known that Duke Baal was getting old. She recognized his mannerisms, his trunk and his coat. The way his brought his son Chotu into everything. But so soon, she had heard word of Duke Baal passing from Chotu himself.

It was a tradition of the land for new vassals to present themselves at court.

Chotu Presents himself

Chotu was a wise elephant, but he didn't have the diplomatic wizardry of his father. Mayor Fafner of Beaulieu became her new chancellor, but she would miss her friend, especially in times like this.

Vlad had fought a siege countersiege war with the rebels. While they were sieging in the west, he captured all of Sens. There were dragons flocking to his banner, his army growing stronger day by day, and he didn't continue the siege but instead waited just outside the rebel's lands to regain enough strength to challenge the rebel army.

Reinforcing army, hope for a victory

Her husband performed his final act of treachery, when she discovered he had been trying to make a claim on her own Kingdom himself. He was insane, totally insane! He married her. He already was the King of Moony through her, and yet he wanted to usurp her position completely and totally.

Her fury had become cold and ice when she tracked down the worthless whelp into his own keep. With the cooperation of his own guards which she had paid off, he was captured and hauled off to prison. Would he be the subject of a thousand tragic tales in the future?

He was a commoner who had loved her so much, and they had such a life together until his ambition and envy captured him. He ended in trying to usurp the same women who gave him the opportunity of a noble life in the first place.

She could do nothing about Taynelth and her marriage, but if she could prevent Nagi and Tintaglia from going through that, she would be happier.

The old rites of Death were necessary. He should PAY. Ryujin was bound in chains as she approached slowly. Chaplain Wyrm was disagreeable about the idea, but he said the old words of the old religion long dead.

Long streams of fire pored from her mouth, and the man she once loved, and there was still that part who loved him. He burned. Completely.

In the aftertime, she discovered that Vald had attacked with 3 to 2 odds and somehow lost against to the rebel army. Her funds were much diminished, down to 160 gold. But her army still in the field was about the same size as the rebel army. Still, morale was low and the fight could no go on forever.

Vote:

[ ] Continue to fight war against Rebels.
We have 167 gold and we are losing 7 gold a month. However, our army is about the same size as the enemy, and we are recovering troops faster. But our war score is -77, so one more big battle going their way means it's over.

[ ] Accept Elective Succession, and work to repair your relationships, so Libelle still becomes Queen.
Our vassals are not so happy with us, but the Dragon fire thing did intimidate them. We could face other factions even if we accept this one. If we win, we can imprison the rebel leaders.

[X] Continue to fight war against Rebels.

If this is the end. I had fun, and you are pretty good at writing QM. Rather enjoyable to read your interactions, and character thoughts.

Duke Baal was a real treat.

Duke Baal was a real treat.

It won't be the end. Even if someone else gets elected for King after Lindy, Libelle would be a duke. Hopefully that doesn't happen.

Glad you enjoy reading. Yeah Baal was cool.

We're a dragon queen. We submit to no one. If necessary, we will burn our nation to the ground to rule over the ashes.

Reign of Queen Lindwurm - Civil and Uncivil War
I was going to have a mini-update about who Libelle marries, but she took over the Duchy from Ryujin and immediately got Betrothed to Benedict again. This system is really being an annoyance, so I just used a console command to set their marriage as matrilineal, so that the game won't end. I won't use that power again except to fix this dumb marriage system where every female ruler wants to hand their title to their father-in-laws family.

Libelle insists on marrying Benedict, son of the Duke of Firesen. Lindy presses her royal authority and intimidates the Duke into making it a marriage that will bear Moony heirs.
After 12 years of imprisonment, ransomed Norberta for 145 gold. Lindy needed the money.
Lindy writes some dark poetry about Ryujin.
Lindy manuevers to Blois county and hires some more mercenaries there. With 4300 against 2400, she is hopeful of a victory finally. The enemy is sieging her capital.
A victorious battle. A commander named Typhos was captured in battle.
Lindy pursues the enemy with doggedness, she cannot afford the mercenaries for long.
Libelle presents herself to her mother as a new vassal of the realm, taking over her father's title of Duchy of Suvalkijaek.
Follow on battle in Quimper
Treasury nearly empty, Lindy is forced to disband the mercenaries, but the enemy is much reduced too.
Draco collects a special tithe to keep the treasury from going negative.
Lindy fires the other mercenaries as well, the ones there since the beginning.
Lindy raises personal levy troops.
Victory as rebels try to chase off enemy forces.
Another victory as Lindy chases down the enemy.
Lindy splits forces to achieve quick sieges to retake their counties.
Still on the edge of running out of money.
One force attacks the rebels, the other force continues sieging the enemy.
Budget deficits start. Lindy hates it but her dragon fueled will continues anyway.
Lindy marries Manu, another dragon of humble birth. He's nice, kind, wise and rather good looking. And there's a marriage collection to be made into her coffers.
Manu arrives at court.
Lindy finds out: King Booper the Destroyer is planning to invade her kingdom.
Resources and soldiers and everything is at an all time low, this could be the end of Moony!
King Booper declares war, calling Lindy despicable.

Libelle

My mom is not okay. My dad was a complete traitor and all our once lovely vassals are vile and scheming. I can't even imagine what she goes through. She helped me go through the laws carefully when I got married though. Benedict was still writing me letters and mom never has time to have a ball or something so I figured it would be better to go with Benedict. I wish I'd hatched earlier when everything was better.

Mom's learned to be real dragonscale hard because she had to. Just one strong push and our kingdom might be no more. No more moon and stars, daughter of portents. Whoever rules the Kingdom next will be only after what they can get from other people. In the middle of this, mom is writing poetry! Poetry.

Some of it is too dark for public knowledge, but some is not.

The Old and Terrible Red Dragon never dies,
Deepbarrow burrowing there he lies,
The builder trusts her foundation,
Then the Red Dragon breaks and tears,

The cycle comes and goes,
A man rises on his honesty and diligence,
He soars as he makes demands still confident,
He tears apart the very foundation of his climbing,
Falling as he pulls his own rug out from under him.

The hopeful queen rises on her shrewdness,
She loves those who love her and hopes for more,
The doubters and the haters will come,
The fire of angry will pour from her mouth,

In rack and ruin will she be found?
As she defends, does she destroy the hopefulness?
Her heart is beating like a mother with the Kingdom-daughter,
The land falls, and she falls, and the old red dragon never dies.

Vlad

The continuing war against the rebels started well with the planned sneak attack into Tours, where the rebels were sieging the capital. Raised in Blois, the second set of mercenaries were difficult to handle financially, but required to make a decisive destruction of the rebel army.

After finally winning a major battle, Vlad chased the rebels all the way to the Northwest corner of the rebel lands, and found them again in Quimper.

Quimper battle stats

After Quimper, the financial situation was nearly a disaster. Lindy was forced to end the mercenary contract of the second group they had hired.

Count Draco (not the rebel draco, the Steward, which was confusing) raised a 50 gold special tithe among the people, but the money did not last long, soon the other mercenaries were gone as well, but nearly 500 dragons under Lindy's direct lands were able to join the fight. Supplemented with these extra forces, Lindy was able to chase down and fight the rebels twice more until they had a mere 250 dragons left.

Then she split her forces, sending both parts to take back the land near the western coast. Because of the many defeats in battle, the rebel leaders refused to surrender or even white peace despite their major lack of forces.

Eventually one of the two armies went to harrass the rebel army again, while the others continued to recover counties in the west.

Continuing war

Libelle

Mom couldn't afford keeping her own troops in the field. She had spent down to the last drop in the hoard, and now she could only offer IOUs. Out of desperation, she began to look for dragons suitable to be her new husband. Mannu was a commoner in his fourties. He was really smart, surprisingly so with no background in the church or anywhere else. He was kind and considerate, exactly what mom needed.

I liked that she found someone new to talk to, but there were darker winds still blowing. Word came of a plan to invade the Kingdom of Moony by the King Booper the Destroyer. Booper was not an intimidating name but Destroyer was, and everyone knew that the civil war had put their kingdom in a dire situation. Lindy had about 2000 dragons left in fighting shape, and the rebels had 300.

So it was to everyone's horror that the Destroyer declared a war by invasion. No one was sure where he came from, but the Elephants were mostly on the islands to their west, so perhaps King Booper the Destroyer was far north of where Duke Baal's residence had been.

War Invasion

This was really bad! The fact that the invasion was by an outside power gave Libelle hope that others would offer their aid in the defense, but what about the Galleys? Their numbers were much reduced. The rebels must have controlled most of the kingdom's sea power. If they could destroy the enemy's ships, maybe they had hope?

Vote: How do you handle the Invasion?
This is starting to seem like a Tragic play or something. Very interesting. I don't know how the invasion works if we lose. Not sure if we'd end up as a Duke, or just lose the game. I'll play it through either way.

[ ] Let Fire Flow! Go out with a bang by invading the invaders in their own homeland. Don't bargain with the rebels.

[ ] Until the Last Moony is gone, we will never surrender! Fight with tooth, claw, and wily tactics. Give up elective succession if need be, but hold on to the Kingdom until the last moment.

[ ] Let the Spymaster Queen be unleashed! Use Lindy's incredible spy-sense to kill enemy leaders, connive and maneuver neighbors to join the fight, and remind yourself that your name is LindWURM!

Ah, the ol' weakness makes the neighbors happy to invade problem. Utterly forgot about that. Got tunnel vision.

Invasion!

Lindy

Lindy reviewed the customs of the invaders. If she conceded the war, she would be striped of every title she possessed, down to county, AND the invader would gain every county he had captured, even those of her vassals. She couldn't let fear inhibit her.

If she won, he would give her only a token sum for his efforts, somehow it seemed unfair that such a custom was denied to the dragons, but commonplace amongst this religious group of elephants.

Duke Chotu identified her enemy as being on the same island as him, far north and along the eastern coast. She must raise an army among the Island vassals as well as among the homeland vassals.

The fight for Elective succession was a small matter if there was nothing to succeed too. She immediately agreed to terms with the Rebel scum. She would never forgot their vileness, but someone still more vile had appeared. Whatever happened, if she survived she would be known as Lindwurm the Remaker!

The limited crown authority she had was stripped away as a result of the agreement, and she immediately pushed for Libelle as the next queen with her one vote.

She had to reorganize the remnants of the mainland army and find reinforcements, but more importantly, she had to raise up the galleys of both the rebels and loyalists. Perhaps she could cut off the enemy fleet, if they planned a naval invasion.

As the army and navy gathered, she worked with whoever she could to try to get an in with her enemy. Find a way to chop the trunk off that King Booper.

She had no money for a proper sacrifice, and the cheap sacrifice of birds promised poor portents. This was bad! And no one had offered to help her assasinate this enemy.

And then, the sweet diplomatic words came. From a Porcupine duke she had never heard of! She was giddy, although the danger was by no means gone.

Duke who? I'll take anyone!

She should have realized he was a she, and she was married to a dragon! Their duchy was in the south, in fact they controlled Navarra, the province Lindy had once tried to gain a right to take in war.

Black Bears and more Porcupines of the Spanish lands joined the cause next!

Mayor Fafner went to Northumberland and found the enemy's disposition. Fafner's purpose was to raise distress and discontent in the foul enemy's lands. King Booper had 49 galleys and 4100 troops in the province.

The Heart of the Evil "Destroyer"

As if the winds had taught her a lesson and now favored her, her treasury started rebuilding, not diminishing. She had never felt so good about 34 gold before in her life. Her army was only 1500 dragons and roughly 500 elephants, with all of her vassals' liege levies joined together with her own forces.

She communicated with her naval and land commanders her orders. The galleys of Moony could not challenge at sea, unless the Booper decided to split his fleet. She wasn't sure how effective galley against galley fighting would be anyway.

If the Booper invaded the mainland, Duke Chotu's forces would be ferried in to assist. If he invaded by land across the island, the mainland forces would assist. She hoped the mainland was chosen, as her allies were all from the mainland.

Lindy's forces

She ordered her mainland troops to rally in Evreux.

Waiting just south of the Booper's section of the coast, her sailors spotted the enemy chosing a prudent course, instead of landing in Moony, 11 of their galleys were headed towards the Viking lands. Presumably they would march south from there.

It was worth an experiment to see if her sailors could sink the enemy ships.

But soon after they started their journey, they saw the remaining 40+ galleys headed straight for them in what the sailors called the wash. The returned to the area hoping to stop the invading ships.

The enemy, who didn't want to force an encounter at sea, was able to evade the battle and continue on to the strait at Dover. The perfect place to chose either landing site: Island or Mainland.

Lindy decided to bring Duke Chotu's forces to the mainland and let her armies in Evreux run, until they knew the size of the landing force.

It became clear the enemy was continuing on to land where the fiercest fighting in the rebel war had been. The fleet rushed to load Duke Chotu's forces.

Over four thousand enemy elephants arrived in Thuars as Lindy's army joined together with allied forces in Sens.

Gathering from many cultures and peoples.

She hadn't realized until now, but without a superior army, it was pointless to stay on the continent. Her best option was to counter-siege against the enemy's siege efforts, unless they could rally a large enough force together.

No one had joined in the plot to kill the Booper. She was upset at that, but stationing her Chancellor in his lands had been crucial. She relied on Mayor Fafner again.

The King of Rashkatraia's castle was small. It might be possible to overrun in his lands and make him pay for what he did in theirs. Hopefully the allies that hadn't joined her yet would think the same. Her armies set to sea, tolerating sea sickness as best they could.

As their forces approached the enemy coastline, there were enemy galleys at sea, she wasn't sure how many enemy troops were onboard.

As her forces landed, she heard word that Duchess Deathwing wanted to join their effort, she gladly accepted.

They went after three counties of the enemy at once, trying to siege all of them quickly and see what could be done of it.

Allied forces continued to accumulate on the mainland, however. There would have been benefits to staying there, but with the bad omens she didn't want to try a big battle against the enemy force

Count Pinecone landed 600 of his porkis to help in the siege on the enemy capital, and Lindy continued trying to figure out what unconventional ways she could fight this war.

The allied forces on the mainland numbered 2500 and they followed behind the enemy army and took back her kingdom's lands. But then King Booper turned back and headed towards them. She didn't know what they would do about that!

Even on defense, Lindy's allies couldn't hold off against the superior numbers of the enemy. They were routed!

Next, the King of Rakartny joined her cause too. Soon she must turn and join with the forces on the mainland, but she still hoped to dig someone or something up from the bad Booper's vaults that would change the course of the war.

But immediately after, she saw the rallying allied troops approaching King Booper's army again. He would do the same and win another fight! She must get back to the mainland in time to save this travesty. And King Morzas of Raknarty was bringing substantial forces to join their fight, if they could all link up there was a chance still! Hope even.

Thuars! Must! Be! Defended.

General Castor of the enemy force was still sieging Poitiers as she sailed back towards the mainland. They had a chance. He had not moved to attack the weaker allied position yet.

But the assembled allies and the arriving Rakartny forces had planned something and they started to link up south of Poitiers. Either Saintonge or Lusignan was their plan.

Seeing even more allied forces than expected, over 6000, plus her 2600 dragons, she considered the attack.

It was time for a fateful fight, and Lindy checked the winds. Indeed, very favorable! The largest army, assembled of two Kingdoms, three Duchies and a Count fought with vicious flames, paws and quills to shred the proud elephants who rampaged over weaker foes. Finally satisfaction and the turn in the tide!

Lindy had no intentions of letting General Castor leave or lick his wounds. It was time to pursue, whether her allies joined her or not. At Armagnac they drew the King's blood once more, and again at Najera.

At last it was time to take back what had been lost, and finish this! After doing a bit of sieging, the final folly of the Booper was"destroying" his own chances as he landed tiny forces in the hundreds of elephants. Two landing parties were immediately chased down and slain by the 7000 strong coalition army.

On June 2, 887, three years after it had begun, the war of the Invader was over. Many had gathered together to push back this enemy and return him to the waters.

This victory tasted so sweet, the blood was running down her chin. The birds Wyrm had sacrificed turned out to be of good portent after all.

She celebrated with her new husband, even though he had been cavorting with that treacherous Duchess Norberta. At this point, cavorting didn't matter much. He was merely a comfort and not someone she trusted.

Vote on Priorities:

[ ] Rebuild the hoard. Only with coin will you be able to work your Dragon charms and feel the comfort of the Throne.

[ ] Out-manuever your Ambitious vassals, work against any other Faction uprisings.

[ ] Bribe the electors to ensure Libelle is chosen as your successor.

Reign of Queen Lindwurm - Daughters
Lindy

She considered her daughters.

Libelle had a common nickname of Merry. Though she knew intrigue well, having learned from Lindy herself, she combined her knowledge with a sweetness that swayed people. She was perhaps the naive one, she somehow flew over it all. It was good for the future queen to start her reign from a place of hope. Lindy hoped Libelle would still have that perspective when she was faced with it. The elector system meant there was no guarantee.

Taynelth impressed her sisters with her learned tongue. She even impressed the best theologians of Moony. But her heart held some of the fearfulness Lindy had tried to excise from herself. Taynelth was haughty and proud, expected in a dragon but not so common among the Moony family. There was an understated way of pride, which Lindy followed.

Nagi was the daughter of Justice and a Balanced disposition. The quietest of the sisters when together in a group, she was temperate, her emotions were stilled by the night. Like Taynelth, she was married to a husband in a conventional way, so her sons and daughters would belong to their father's family.

Tintaglia had similarities to her sister Nagi, but she had learned the way of "cavalry" as other nations called it. That was Lindy's preference as well, but her daughter had advanced much further in the art. The charge of her line of Dragons into the enemy position would be destructive one day. Tintaglia was unmarried. She would be the only of the four daughters that Lindy got to enjoy and celebrate weddings with.

Ryujin had pushed her other daughters away where they had weddings with their husbands' families. She enjoyed helping Tintaglia find an appropriate match.

If women were allowed to be Chaplains, she could have had a council of her daughters. Libelle made a great Chancellor, Taynelth a Chaplain, Nagi a steward and Tintaglia a Marshal. Only her oldest and youngest lived in the castle, however.

Searching through all the lands for Dragon men of the right faith and culture and age, she found few possibilities for Tintaglia. It would be good to bring more dragons of a martial inclination into the land as she had run short on good commanders during the last series of wars.

Voidalterah was a commander in the north lands just before the bay that divided the cold Kitty north with the Goldclawist south. He had a Moonian inclination for the undercurrents of social life. Lindy invited Voidalterah to join her court and considered if he and Tintaglia would hit it off.

The two of them were top candidates for Marshal, as the both were far better than Vlad at it. Lindy chose Tintaglia as her next marshal, but Voidalterah was brought on as a commander too. She removed many of the bad commanders of the Invasion war. It was fortunate that the nations of Dragon and other peoples had rallied together back then, so she could rely on their own generals to supplement her weakness there.

It didn't take long for Tintaglia and Voidalterah's romance to blossom, although they did have some differences. Tintaglia was just like her older sister. Voidalterah was a bit more arbitrary and capricious. The two lovebirds opted to fly into their wedding ceremony like they were on an attack run, which was unconventional, but amusing!

Being her fourth daughter, the people didn't celebrate it like they had Libelle. Another reason to be glad Ryujin was burned to bits. She had lost the chance to celebrate her firstborn's marriage.

That spiteful action and the battle of electors was making her vassals contentious and disobedient like little kingdoms of their own. She did what she could with the ceremonial titles to placate people.

Immediately after the Invasion was repulsed, several of her vassals began to push one dragon or another for the throne. While they were split up, it was of little danger, but now they were consolidating on Duke Ryujin for King of Moony.

Out of the sea monster, into the volcano, so they say.

Duke Ryujin was no nice person. He was rather cruel. And he was suffering horrible wounds after the invasion war. Lindy would kill him herself if it kept the Kingdom alive for another decade.

Duke Rattleskin was leading the faction that wanted to replace Lindy with Duke Ryujin. Her efforts to spy on Rattleskin brought fruit rather quickly. He had many hidden and secret lives.

She threatened Rattleskin that if he didn't stop affiliating with factions, she would expose him.

Two other members of the Duke Ryujin faction had been caught conspiring. It would be wise to deal with this Countess. She had shared her daughter's name Taynelth and shamed it.

What seemed a sure effort to capture her led to the Countess's escape, to raising armies against Lindy instead. Dashed!

During the effort to defeat Countess Taynelth, she discovered Libelle (who was an elector because of her duchy), was supporting Tintaglia as the next queen. Once this war was over. She needed to sit down and plan the next step.

At the same time, Duchess Norberta was in a war against her vassal Draco, but she stepped in and fought Taynelth's forces while Lindy's army was rallying.

It must have been an accident on Norberta's part.

Duke Chotu lead the armies into the siege of Sancerre.

In greater portents, Princess Libelle was joined by Duchess Norberta in a Faction to return to Gavelkind. Would rebellion reverse itself by Rebellion? Libelle hated the Elector system apparently. Lindy did too.

Unfortunately, Libelle's opinion was fickle as she left the faction soon after and voted for herself again. Perhaps Lindy could connive a way to make Gavelkind faction stronger. Duchess Norberta was still supporting and leading the faction for some strange reason. What benefit could there be for the Duchess?

Finally, in August of 888, Countess Taynelth surrendered and was imprisoned. The factions which had been so unified were once against scattered 4 ways. She couldn't rest, but the imminent threat was put a few months away.

What was it about Taynelths? When she found her daughter was conspiring to try to find a way to kill Libelle, she asked herself that. Taynelth was clueless about spycraft and assassination, which was the only reason her wrath did not burn hot.

She would not have her daughters conspiring to kill each other. They were supposed to be different from the bickering vassals.

Libelle's husband Benedict inherited the Duchy of Firesen, and now, due to Lindy's insistence, Libelle's children would inherit both the Kingdom and Firesen.

After Benedict's father, Ryujin, Duke Barney became the focus of plots to replace her as Queen.

When she started spying on Barney, also her spymaster, which made the Spy vs. Spy games more amusing, she discovered the Duke was having an affair with Duchess Norberta, who it seemed had slept with every important person in the Kingdom (nicknamed Seductress). Lindy couldn't remember how many times her spy network had caught such things.

The duchess paid her off, with only a trifle of gold coins. If she couldn't rub 30 gold together, what a poor dragon she made?

Duke Barney's son was planning to kill him. Lindy knew she had to back up, and stop panicking about her vassal's schemes. More money and the recovery of her loyal dragon soldiers would ease her nerves. She would not support the son, but if her spymaster died, it wouldn't cause too many tears.

Barney was rather depressed. Was it because Norberta dumped him or was that happening before their tryst?

After the constant work from three wars and the effort to save the kingdom from it's worthless vassals, a fourth war she was exhausted to the bone. And now there was a heresy: Buchanism, breaking out in Sens. Would she ever have peace and calm times? She had wondered once long ago, when her boredom would end. Now she longed for the days of boredom!

"I'm so sorry I said I was bored! Please more boredom!" she shouted to god or whomever could hear her.

Vote 1: How will Lindy handle the stress and the constant peril facing the Kingdom of Moony?

[ ] Be Paranoid, so her daughters can have peace.

She must replace these vassals with new followers, carefully unwinding the schemes of those who cared nothing for Moony. They are everywhere!

[ ] Be Calm. Find comfort in the Peace of her Religion.

Something must give. She will stop and learn about the tenets of the Goldclaw faith, and maybe find a peace that goes beyond the strength of her wings and claws.

[ ] Be Calm. Find comfort in Drink and Merriment.
Duke Baal used to put on some good parties after all? And board games. She had identified a few others after Baal who had the knack for playing rooks between knocking back some strong stuff.

Vote 2: How will Lindy handle the Heresy of Buchardism?

[ ] Suppress it Heavily!

Chaplain Wyrm will be busy with the job immediately.

[ ] Ignore it.
No one believes such lies, it won't spread

[ ] Be Curious
Why do they believe what they believe?

Reign of Queen Lindwurm - Paranoia
Lindy

Working with Libelle on how to defuse angry vassals and stop plots, Lindy decided to grant Tintaglia the Duchy of Goodboyelia (including the County of Saintonge). She would rather that her daughters who were staying with the family had more of the land, and her vassals thought she held on to too many ducal titles.

Her first grandson was Taynelth's son, not yet hatched. Libelle, Nagi and Tintaglia didn't have any dragon eggs yet.

In addition to worrying about her vassals conspiring to put someone else on the throne, she had to worry about another enemy's plans to invade. They were just a Grand Mayor, but she wasn't sure if the Mayor was very rich and well-connected with mercenaries. Duke Baal had impressed the Mayor, or perhaps his father in the past, and the Mayor's towns were just east of Duke Chotu.

Giving Tintaglia that Duchy had left her with only the County of Tours for her own. It would nice to have a bit more land for her own troops. But the scars of the last mega-conflicts meant she still wanted to recover rather than being ambitious.

It was a weird concept to let people know when you would invade them. Perhaps she could land troops just before the Mayor's promised invasion, and try to rout the enemy then?

Invasion?

She couldn't seem to find any rest as she found out Libelle and Tintaglia had voted their sister Nagi to be the next Queen, but Nagi's inheritance would go to her husband's line, thereby handing away the Kingdom.

She continually tried to manuever in the Elector game, eventually finding that the sister-electors themselves and Duke Barney were willing to support Princess Tintaglia as the next queen. She didn't know how long her daughters would keep their votes the same.

All of her subtle workings were put on pause when the Buchanist heretics rose up in huge numbers in Sens county, however. It took every soldier her vassals could grant her to face the heretics. Count Draco lead the charge, and crushed the only slightly smaller enemy army. Mobs never had the years of training and cohesion that her armies had.

She would have Tintaglia work on ending any chance of revolt in Sens.

In the meantime, Libelle and Duke Barney told her she could seize the county of Sancere from the traitorous imprisoned Taynelth (not her daughter). So she did, which at least gave her a bit more money coming into the hoard. It would be needed. The sacrifices for the war on Buchanism had cost her 50 gold alone.

Vote on how to handle the "Invasion" by Grand Mayor Mr. Tusk
He doesn't seem to have many troops (685 last I checked) but he might have the money to pay for mercenaries, as he had a hoard of 1467 gold (do elephants have those?).

[ ] Go to the Grand Mayor's land ahead of time and rout enemy units as they form.

[ ] Keep your forces on the mainland at the start of war. Wait for other Lords to join you in defense of the Invasion.
