Duchess Lindwurm II: The Moony Family Declines
Lindwurm II

Brother was fighting an uphill battle which resulted in him losing the throne.

Mom passed on, and Scorch was at war with her, Duke Ryujin then had the most votes of Electors and became King. He didn't even give us time time to mourn. He was still fighting Scorch, and soon captured him.

Mom had been wise until something happened to her. Perhaps a Dragon curse. I wanted to learn from mom's wise period and not her crazy period.

{Irony Strikes Again}

I have heard from the moon, and it tells me things. I know the way to go!

My brother found 400 gold in his Steward's pillowcases, I must search my vassals and courtiers pillowcases too! (That does sound painful to sleep on)

Since Scorch inherited the duchies and counties of my mother, King Ryujin's coronation would be in Poitiers, the phony capital. I must cow-tow now so I can do what I desire later. So I packed up and went down to Poiters, leaving behind the beauty of Paris.

Many of the King's vassals didn't show up, but Pope Callistus was there to bless the new King. I did what I could to butter him and stay in his good book. He had already stripped a county from Scorch.

No one else supported me as future Queen, and the atmosphere had flipped from supporting my family to supporting Ryujin's family: of the Earth. Mom's actions had turned the people of the Kingdom away from us. But there was a time when she was supported by all. It must be something dastardly: someone controlled mom's mind to destroy our family name! It must be.

After I had done all of this work to bring us closer, King Ryujin smeared my name at Court and among the people. He said I was a traitor to the kingdom and an evil violent woman.

Why did he make me marshal, and then speak highly of me to only slander me in the end?

I decided that the "King" was no good seed at all. My only proper pursuit was to find a way to oust him. I couldn't do such a bad job as my brother had done in ousting my mother. I had to think on this for a long, long time. I would watch the King first, and then see what could be seen.

As for the King himself, he was off on boats to go attack the Grand Mayor of New Habbaria, my grand-mother's hated enemy.

I've been writing to Tiomat regularly. She is a sweet sister, and she writes punctually, she's one of the few people who talks to be and isn't an advisor or vassal.

My brother died in prison, truly tragic that he paid the price for trying to help stop mom from doing damage to the kingdom. I gained all of his land, because Grey Ghost is the only one in our family with any descendants, and the days are going down on my chance of having kids.

If I don't, all that have will go to Grey Ghost, and then her daughter Libelle II. My hope of regaining control of Moony for our family was renewed, but I couldn't be foolish, I had to be very smart if we had any chance at all.

If I became the most powerful Duchess in the Kingdom, I might put King Ryujin in an uncomfortable situation. No one else was expressing interest in overthrowing his kingdom for now, so it would be best to wait and work in hiding.

Vote on how Lindwurm II will proceed:

[ ] Became a Gold Hoarding Duchess. You've got 1000 gold already. Someday with a big enough warchest you can fight King Ryujin or his successors for the Kingdom.

[ ] King Ryujin passed Medium Crown Authority which somehow got enough votes. It bans wars between vassals. Start a faction to reduce crown authority, there's lots of lands you could gobble up from the other Dukes if Lesser Crown Authority became the law again.

[ ] Be Humble. Accept that the Kingdom is gone from your family. Preserve the best legacy for the Moony family that you can.

I was in the middle of writing an update and CK2 crashed. I'll have to see what autosaves are available, but I didn't have time to work on it more last night.

There's a lot of religious wars and stuff going on. King Khozen is Buchanist now and in the parrallel world he declared Holy War on the King, but sieged some of our lands. More problematically, none of our family members are having kids. Libelle II, our 2nd cousin, is the last young person in the Moony family.

King Khozen is invading our land. The once loyal King has become Buchanist. The influence of Goldclawism is declining amid these newer religions increasing. I don't care much about it beyond the requirements for not getting excommunicated.

I dream sometimes about a religion which would have no obligations and no costs. No pope or chaplains. Maybe some Monks that went around and told people they didn't have to believe in all this other stuff. It was a wild and crazy thought, lunacy according to many, I guess.

I was managing my lands from Poiters where I went around encouraging the locals to get prepared and trained to fight. This was my job as marshal. I would have been resentful that I didn't go out on campaign, but I was happy to not be involved in King Ryujin's endless fiasco on the Isles, to say nothing about the King of Nyx's campaign, which was passing through my own lands, even though the war was not my affair.

Tiomat was my heir if anything happened to me. I was Tiomat's heir. After that, it would go to that King Ryujin. If Tiomat didn't have a child soon, our branch of the family tree would end, along with two duchies, several counties and Tiomat's barony. I was 42. My husband was 55. I could only put my hope in Tiomat.

Aunt Nagi had a child named Elephant, who had two dragon children. They were not part of the Moony family, but they would continue the family lineage. Perhaps I could get to know them.

Nagi's other child Baal had no children.

After we gained support against the Buchanist holy war from the Goldclaw pope and other Kings and smaller powers, the war turned in a different direction as I heard about a massive battle between 11,000+ on our side against 8,000 of King Khozen's soldiers.

I briefly raised my own armies to retake the castles which King Khozen had captured from my land.

Of course, then King Crisp of Rackartny sensed King Ryujin's weakness and attacked seeking Auxerre county. But my King had been victorious against the Grand Mayor of Habbaria and now all of his forces were back on the mainland. So it was not so overwhelming as the Rackartnian King had thought.

King Ryujin was 70 years old during the later years of the wars against Rakartny and the Buchanist religion. He passed on leaving his 50 year old son Falknor as King.

King Khozen's hope to oppress Moony while they were at war with the Grand Mayor failed. But the war with Rakartny remained. I stayed away from that one, returning my troops to their homes, and continuing to collect Someday Money.

At 37, Tiomat had a daughter: Glaurang. The family had hope, for at least another generation. I supported Tiomat to be the next Queen of Moony, although I didn't expect to get enough votes for that to happen.

When it looked like King Falknor was going to lose a key battle against Rakartny, I quickly rallied my army again and aided the King in swiftly ending the Rakartnian war of aggression. Our neighbors were no longer friendly, it seemed.

With the wars over, King Falknor had to have a coronation like his father had. But my bitterness was less, I arrived with more happiness and accepted the dragon King's joy, and my place within Moony. I would fight for the Kingdom, even as a duchess, and never give up, lest that sparky of Moony fail.

Some called me Merry, but I considered myself Peaceable.

Vote: What hobbies or goals will Lindwurm II "The Merry" pursue next (other than Gold)?

Duchess Lindwurm II: Why are all these wars around me?
Lindy

Mom had taught me several board games that grandmom had taught her. I was looking for some more interesting people to invite to court, so I asked Nils, a Game Master, to come to Paris.

He arrived while I was away at the new King's coronation. Falknor didn't wait long after he was crowned before he got to some fighting of his own. He declared war on King Khozen, and tried to take land away from one of the counts. The count rebelled and ask for my assistance. I didn't want to rock the boat yet, so I refused to revolt against King Falknor.

The rebellious count was defeated in a few months, and the war against King Khozen was just starting. I remained away from the war, and just fine with that.

I tried to become good friends with Nil, but he just wouldn't stop complaining and being irritiable. I had plenty of war wounds myself, but that old fart wouldn't stop talking about all that.

I found more interest in the new religion sweeping through Paris. Much like Goldclawism, it was a more low key and relaxed version. Most of the believers had a fatalistic outlook, so they said why not just have fun. Publicly I kept my bona fides, but I was interested in this new religion. It was just like what I was asking for.

While King Falknor was busy achieving a victory in the North, Duchess Barbar began an invasion against the Kingdom of Moony. The Duchess had over 11,000 forces to her invasion and nearly 200 galleys.

Falknor took a sizable chunk of land from King Khozen, but the battle against the invaders would be a tough one. I decided to raise my armies to defend the mainland. I expected the King to focus on the Isle.

After sweeping up the minor forces on the mainland, I hired a small naval company to ferry my soldiers across to the Isle and help the King. I was able to arrive at the site of a big battle and help him win it.

Of course, about that time, a Buchanist revolt of 3300 soldiers rose up on the mainland, but it had taken a long time to ferry all my troops across with only 10 ships, so I didn't want to go back to the mainland yet.

After recapturing a few castles on the isles, King Falknor seemed to have everything under control so the armies headed back to the mainland. I was replaced as marshal, and I declined to be a commander, so I got to lead my own ducal forces to take on this Buchanist uprising.

It was a fierce fight but we were able to defeat the Buchanists once more. There were battles ongoing with the invading Duchess in the south, so I rushed my soldiers down to intervene in one of the two ongoing fights. It was a rough battle but we persevered against better numbers.

King Falknor must have achieved a lot of success on the isle, as after my army retook his own capital in Poitiers, Falknor returned with a settlement. The Duchess surrendered.

Just after the War, Duke Ghazi formed a faction to argue with the King for lowered crown authority. The current rules restricted what she and the other vassals of the King could do. There were many lands she could claim as a Princess, which she had no right to fight for under the current rule.

Vote: Join Faction for Lowered Crown Authority
We are currently in Medium Crown Authority which prevents us from warring with other vassals of Moony. Lindy II has many claims on lands around the Kingdom that we could fight for if the law changed to Limited Crown Authority

[ ] Join Faction for Lowered Crown Authority
Current Members have 88% of the Power of the King, with our help that will be substantially above 100%.

[ ] Do Not Join Faction

Note: I wanted to make this update more social, but then the person I brought over to try to become friends with got offended, and then the King was declaring wars, and invaders and religious upheaval and King Khozen doing crazy things too.

Duchess Lindwurm II: Autonomy or Subjection
Family Tree

Lindy

After I agreed to join with Ghazi of Lesser Haatheeai in campaigning for changing the law of vassals back to Limited Crown Authority, it was only a matter of a few weeks before he made the demand of King Falknor and war began.

The overlapping lands of the King and his loyalists and us made it a very chaotic beginning. It was important to gather our forces together before they were dragged into fights they couldn't win.

Gathering my armies, I pursued the forces of the King who were trying to push north to join Falknor's larger army near Nyx. In Perch, a county I'd never had reason to think of before, I defeated a force of roughly a thousand loyalists.

I let Ghazi act as the siege leader as I ran my forces around the Kingdom pursuing smaller armies to defeat. We had to stay on top of this or the King's superior armies would defeat us.

After fighting and winning some smaller battles I decided to challenge King Falknor's main army in Vermandois.

After the fighting easily went my way, I realized the King still had another large army on the Isles.

I could have paid sailors to ferry me across to the Isles, but I decided instead to let Ghazi do the sailing and focus on sieging the King's counties.

Duke Draco was also rebelling against the King, but he hadn't joined our cause, so he had his own aims in fighting the King.

Falknor returned his forces who were on the Island back to the mainland so I went to fight them. This time, I lead the army, as we were needing another commander.

The battle was hard fought but Count Draco joined battle on our side (temporarily) to defeat Falknor's army. We fought again a little further south and left the King with only a tiny remnant of his original armies, but reinforcements could come at any time.

The whole situation in Moony was chaotic and weird, with both the Duke Draco revolt and the revolt I had joined with Duke Ghazi, but now Duchess Taynelth, a vassal of King Khozen, declared war for Brie county against our revolt. I had lost much of my army during the long battles and sieges, and now only had a hand-picked force of 1500 soldiers.

I stumbled into a trap while I was exploring and ended up faced with 2400 soldiers of the Duchess.

The war against King Falknor was going well, but I didn't know how things would go againt Duchess Taynelth.

Vote: How to continue the war(s)?

[ ] Recruit Mercenaries to defeat Duchess Taynelth and King Falknor.

[ ] Continue saving money and help Duke Ghazi where you can. It may make sense to send your army home until you can recover their strength.

Duchess Lindwurm II: Waiting for Victory
Lindy II

With Duchess Taynelth's assault of Brie unimpeded, my army was too weak to remain in the field, so I had everyone return to their homes. At a crucial moment I would rally the troops again to bring aid.

King Falknor had raised a small army once again, but I wanted to wait until I had enough new recruits so that my army could out-number the Kings.

When a lot of small squads and groups of Falknor's soldiers were scattered against Moony, I decided it was best to rally the army and cut them down.

But King Falknor continued to reform his military strength, and somehow got the Pope's own soldiers to join his cause. I had no idea why the Pope would fight against us. But now the Pope and King Falknor were fighting against Duchess Taynelth.

Truly there were many enemies but at least some of them fought each other.

While I was away, my Husband slipped into a coma. What initially was a quick war to lower the Kingdom's laws of Crown Rights had become a vast set of interlocking wars.

With the battle between Duchess Taynelth and King Falknor's Papal allies being so fierce, I was able to immediately charge in to attack the Duchess after she won.

It was only after I settled down to retake Brie county, working in close cooperation with Duke Ghazi that I realized why the Pope had become involved. Duke Ghazi had converted to Setabulism.

My objections to the religion were mainly to their violence in the days of my grandmother's reign. I had no great committment to one belief or another, but the shattered faiths in this area made me wary. King Khozen was Buchardist, and the Queen of Rainbowscaleine was Setabulist. In Spain another variant faith was popular.

After retaking Brie, I fought with the Duchess once more, and then began to siege the King's new capital in Vermandois.

As if years had passed in the time it took to marsh to Vermandois I received one messsenger after another. Duke Ghazi had died after being crippled in a battle. Their war effort was wasted because Ghazi was the faction leader, and King Falknor's message that he was losing both against Duke Draco and King Khozen.

And now, in Vermandois, a huge army of Khozen's was prepared to crush my own soldiers.

Everything they had done had been for no gain, and now the Kingdom was falling apart. Fate had not been kind on her nor her siblings. There's was the generation of doom, and what could they do about this now?

At least I had my mountain of gold, and it was almost twice as high as before. I went home, mourning the loss of the Kingdom, and the loss of the large family I had grew up in. Both Tiomat and I had suffered horrible injuries on the battlefield that still provided their daily aches and pains.

I had collected quite a full prison. I enjoyed ransoming each of them, I took no joy in harsh punishments, but made their lives as comfortable as was responsible. They were prisoners of war and not of moral villainy.

I had hoped to invite Tiomat to drown our sorrows in drinking and merriment but she had no time to do such things. I stayed in the treasury for days on end, making a little bedroom in the place, where no one could hear me either scream or cry.

I took no notice of wars and rumors of wars but instead invited a few likeminded people to drink with me.

Among others, I sent invites to Angry the cat and Asabjorn the White Bear.

The bear refused to drink but Angry the cat was a hillarious fun time. Have you ever heard of a Pokey and a Cat dancing for fun with a keg each.

Angry's fur was riddled with needles because I didn't realize it was happening and she was too drunk to care. I named Angry master of the hunt as everyone knows cats are the master of hunting little critters, and the irony was amusing.

Finally, someone who actually enjoyed forgetting the things of this world with me. Angry was a good spy too, but I didn't have any spying to do, so I told her to stick around at the capital and enjoy life. Cats don't have a problem with that. She settled in nicely.

I was shocked to hear that Angry had 7 siblings when in Moony they had trouble having even a single child.

Count Hanno was a neighboring Count who seemed to thing he had to sleep with every women. I had already blackmailed him, but he only paid out a few gold, but now he pursued Angry and she didn't resist. Count Hanno's priorities were off track more even than my own.

King Falknor wanted me to be a commander, so I just gave in and accepted. It was stupid, I didn't want to use these war skills anymore. King Nyx had taken back the duchy which Falknor and his father had gained, and now Falknor's capital was over on the Isle.

King Falknor only had two counties to his name, and he was already facing Duke Draco. Even though she hated war by this point, this might be the only change she had to challenge him for the Throne.

Vote: War? What is it Good For

[ ] I hate it, but I must honor my Grandmother and fight to take back the Kingdom of Moony for the Family Name Moony.

[ ] Forget it. I'd rather forget that I ever learned how to fight. I will live out my days in peace, however long they may be.

Duchess Lindwurm II: Do or Die
Lindy II

I had to not only defeat the King but also stop Duke Draco from claiming the throne. With my army and gold in the state they were, I would have to pay a navy to ferry me across to Falknor's new capital, but also a mercenary army to win the battles against both of my foes.

I had split my forces when I realized I still couldn't ferry all my troops across in one group and plenty of the King's soldiers were still on the mainland.

I lead the armies on the Isles sieging the King's lands and attacking his armies whenever they formed, while two other armies stayed on the mainland doing much the same.

The King was sieging my county of Sancerre and also retaking another county of his back. He had fought Duke Draco on the isles, and won, which was good because it set back Draco's claim on the throne, but now the King was strong on the Island again.

I ordered a second of my three armies to join me on the island.

Libelle II lead the army heading to join me on the isles, but she had to stop and fight another army of the King's In Nantes. These armies seemed to grow like weeds!

For whatever reason, they couldn't get on the boats, and so Libelle was stuck on the Mainland and my smallish force was stuck on the island. Worthless boaters for hire!

Everything was looking great for regaining the Kingdom.

One day I was leading the troops, and discovered I had a cough. The next day, I couldn't get up out of my tent. I was horrified. Every effort I made in my life had been for naught.

We almost made it. This game is just so evil! Lindy II died, so our rebellion which was at +73% war score, is over. Tiomat inherited everything from Lindy II. No vote for now. It's so frustrating how everything had constantly gone against us.
