Civilization Beyond Dimensions (Civilization Beyond Earth/Multicross)

Edit: • Is it possible to gain some additional youkai species in the future? Multiculturality is always interesting.
It is indeed possible to gain additional youkai species, and is actually expected unless you go out of your way to avoid it.

Anyway if you guys have any questions about some of the factions in setting feel free to ask, I'll only answer to the extent that the PC knows about a given faction but that's one of the advantages of the explorer trait.

[x] Ash Farms: Emerald believes that with some help from your geneticists she might be able to turn the Ash fields into something useful.
[x] Send a unit to scout (Can use any available units but some are better then others.)
-[X] Explorer
-[X] Soldier scouts in opposite direction of Explorer, but only expand know distance by 1-2 tiles maximum, staying nearby city.
[x] Set your colony to produce either a unit or a building.
-[X] Defensive Turrets
[x] Add an improvement to one of your tiles. (Requires an available worker for each tile you plan to improve.)
-[X] Farm

Personally I think Unity is our best option for what Affinity to aim for given our enviroment. The fact that we're all alone on an alien world means people need to stick together for survival, and few things can unite people like a shared opponent.

As for the canon affinities, Purity would for us likely forego "Humanity, Fuck Yeah!" and center on the idea of "Planet Earth=Badass". Supremacy on the other hand would, given the outright public acknowledgment of the existence of the supernatural, could go down a path of Magitek and Technopathy/Technomancy. Of course this is all just speculation.

Edit: For in setting questions, what is the rough ratio of Humans/Youkai in the population, what kinds of Youkai are present, what is the current public opinion, and the current state of Human-Youkai Relations.

Edit#2: Are you going to be using anything like a simple hex grid to map out areas, or are we going to be just using an abstraction via descriptions?

On Earth it's 9 to one in humanities favor with border beings having done massively better then normal youkai for a while due to the presence of psychics and conduits making them more accepted.

In the colony itself it's more like 4 to 6 in humanities favor due to the colony having been founded by youkai to start with.

Human-Youkai relations are for the most part stable on earth. They did get shaky for a while due to Fairy Tale involvement but the organization was eventually dealt with having managed to anger Armachame, the UN's psychic divisions, the Enchanters, and otherwise apathetic youkai at the same time. Needless to say weaker youkai while better then humans are not much off a match for a force of fully armed replicas and as nasty as S classes can get they don't match up to the likes of Yuriko Omega or Alma. Fairy Tale still exists unfortunately but it's been massive pruned and will get crushed if it acts up too much.

Humanity as a whole is still largely ignorant of youkai (Although they know they exist) but most major organizations such as the UN have a god deal of knowledge on them. The presence of youkai on humanities side during the war with the Hierarchy have certainly given them more room to maneuver then they would otherwise and the presence of large amounts of hostile aliens has divert youkai ire away from humanity. Mind you youkai don't really get along with friendly aliens either but it's not enough for them to start killing each other.
Edit#2: Are you going to be using anything like a simple hex grid to map out areas, or are we going to be just using an abstraction via descriptions?
For now I'm going with descriptions, if I get someone to work a hex map for me I'll gladly swap out to that though.

Considering selected planet and faction diversity,
• Is it possible to "assimilate" some of the other factions, in order to accelerate growth and research?
• Would acquiring "The Casterwill Family" (high level hydras) will cause increased tension?
• Are there any activities (without Action cost) that could passively increase 'Unity'?

• Is it possible to "assimilate" some of the other factions, in order to accelerate growth and research?
If you mean starting factions then no.

• Would acquiring "The Casterwill Family" (high level hydras) will cause increased tension?
Shockingly enough for an S class not by much, the main problem most Hydras have is that they're really freaking lazy so only the really stupid youkai manage to get into a fight with one.

• Are there any activities (without Action cost) that could passively increase 'Unity'?
Aside from possible getting some bonus unity from an Omake not really.

Thanks for answering.
And for the 1. question:
We will meet many, some of them might be a different branch of Youkai Secret Organization.

We landed here in desperation (with pirates and all that) and it's not necessary our "original" colonisation point...... Or am I reading between lines that are actually empty o_O?

Thanks for answering.

Keep in mind that the patter for colonization is actually very spread, so out most of the other colonization attempts are in different dimensions.

You can assimilated some local factions you may encounter however.

The Black Legions
Here's a little info snipped about some of well known threats you guys might encounter.

The Black Legions: Not a collective faction the Black Legions are the collective name for the various malevolent Darkness based armies that wonder the multiverse and compete with both one another and the 'normal' factions of the multiverse for dominance.
An ancient evil no one knows much about the Darkness only that it was once one of the most powerful malevolent forces in existence and that it is served by a band of creatures known as the Hive. The Darkness's main enemy is bringing known as the Traveler a creature theorized to be close in nature to the primal light. Not much is known how the Darkness fell from one of the most powerful forces in existence to it's current sorry state but it is known that both the Clockwork Comet Builders and Dark Matter played a large part it's downfall, and that the later wiped the Darkness's most prominent servants the Ahamkara from existence soon after.
A powerful race in inter-dimensional creatures born in the plain of shadows and mutated by exposure to Phazon the Ing are an aggressive and expansive force in a multiverse that already has too many such forces. In combat the Ing rely on possessing powerful creatures and bringing them to bear against they're enemies meaning that when faced with an enemy that cannot be possessed and a lack of available hosts the Ing will soon find themselves outmatched. In addition the Ing are extremely weak to light and as such tend to shirk away from combat with forces that use a large variety of light based weaponry. Currently the Ing battle against the forces of Darkness for control of the shadow plains and with a variety of alien empires over control of phazon deposits within the normal realms.
An ancient tyrant who once held sway over many dimensions within the realm of stars the Shadow Queen was banished to the lower plains with only a handful of followers still remaining in servicee to her.
The most feared and powerful of the Black Legions Dark Matter rarly leaves the realm of dreams. All that is known about Dark Matter is that it despises positive emotion and that the other Dark Legions will occasionally cease fighting in order to attempt to hold it back. Extreme caution is advised if any Dark Matter lifeform is encountered.

Keep in mind that the patter for colonization is actually very spread, so out most of the other colonization attempts are in different dimensions.

*Mr.Burns voice* Eeexcelent, as I wanted.
Thanks for that!

As for enemies:
• Most familiar with "Great Whirlwind" (the Darkness) = even in weakened state it is a powerful corrupting force, so don't let it in your mind, EVER. Don't even consider it for a moment!!

• Ing = hurt by light and we do have a Aqshy Crystals. Certainly with correct research an appropriate system can be made against them.

• Know nothing about he last 2 except standard CARSK formula (caution, avoid, run, shoot, kill)
Thoughts?

Ok how's the vote going?
I think unanimously :
[x] Ash Farms: Emerald believes that with some help from your geneticists she might be able to turn the Ash fields into something useful.

-[X] Farm
?

Pretty sure the Shadow Queen is the same one from Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door since the mushroom kingdom and its inhabitants were scattered through the starting area vote. Dark Matter....... even in the Kirby games that thing is a mystery. The former we need to keep an eye on her servants and do whatever we can to keep them from freeing her. Dark Matter on the other hand, again, a mystery, but everything else is scared of it.

Almost forgot I intend to have up update for this buy Sunday if nothing else comes up.

I wanted to get some up today but a storm combined with other difficulties meant I was unable too.

Research

"One of the biggest trials during the early days of settlement was the unsuitability of most of the farming land. Once the technology for ash farms was completed we found survival to be a much easier task."

Reward: Unlocked Ash farm, Ash farms give 2 food and are only buildable on ash tiles.

XXXXX

The scout reports that a good deal of the surrounding area is more ash. It has located some camps filled with fire based orcs and goombas that appears to have smoke stacks sticking out of the tops of their heads but other than that and some strange trees there isn't much of interest to be seen for a good while.

Reward: Discovered that 5 tiles out is mostly ash, Discovered Aqshy Orc camp, found Choomba camp, Found inferno tree tile.

XXXXX

Thankfully a more thorough search of the areas close to the city by your soldiers yields more promising results including more Aqushy crystals, strange creatures that resemble living coal, and an Ash tile that seems to particular rich in nutrients.

Reward: Discovered that the next expansion of colony borders will include Aqshy Crystal tiles, 2 Coalbit tiles, and two Rich Ashland tiles.

XXXXX

Work on the defensive turrets for the colony begins. You are not able to finish it this turn due to the complicated nature of the wiring necessary, but it shouldn't actually take much longer before the project is finished.

Reward: Turrets complete next round.

XXXXX

"Joey" A feminine voice calls from behind you causing you to turn around.

Standing in the door to your office is Gertrude, the representative of the May group and a very odd individual.

"Gertrude." You greet the succubus with a raised eyebrow. "What brings you to my office?"

"Oh I just came to tell you about a little habit some of our colonists have been getting into." She smiles as she walks up to you. "It seems they've taken to gathering at cross species clubs. Places where the barriers of prejudice and distrust from the old world are moot."

"I'm assuming that this is a positive development." You take a sip of your coffee. "Thank you for informing."

"You're welcome." Gertrude smiles as she walks closer to you. "Say you wouldn't mind taking a girl out for a night on the town?"

You raise an eyebrow.

"Please?"

Well you suppose it's better than her first attempt to seduce you.

"Fine" you relent "But don't expect anything more than a nice date on the first night.

"Oh don't worry I know not to rush.

Reward: Plus one culture, + 5 unity points.

XXXXX

You have received word of a very unsettling practice within the colony. While tensions between humans and youkai have been mostly calm youkai society itself has its own issues and divides all of which can cause problems for a young colony.

In this case it is the prejudice against hybrids between two or more youkai species.

While things haven't escalated too far yet it seems that some youkai stores owned have starting barring Hybrids from purchasing they're wares.

What do you do?
[x] Outlaw such bans immediately! This nonsenses cannot be allowed to fester!
[x] Talk with some of the prominent youkai in the colony and convince them to help you institute a joint agreement against these practices, it will be slower but hopefully will hurt public order less.

Cool! As for possible actions... can we have multiple actions?

-[x] Build May Group Theater (to pacify hate, increase Happiness and Unity)

In long term this would be more efficient.

Outlawing it only make them hate it more.

If there are any detractors, we can just say "For fairness' sake we can't go barring people from locations unless they're actually doing something disruptive to business."

Huh, does this quest attracts long term thinkers?

Hi, nice to meet you, let's have a productive and stable future here!
