Children of Hades (DanMachi)

[X] Head to the Dungeon, but stick to the first floor.

Nothing like a trial by fire. And wow, these items are amazing. And they're giving them to level 1s.

Then we find out "Morn Rower" is simply this world's version of Santa Claus, I'm not falling for that nonsense again!

I think we still need to get our stats up to snuff but delving also provides opportunities for ability development etc. Decisions, decisions...

[X] Head to the Dungeon, but stick to the first floor.

Urgh did we made some weird pass to Leon due to overeating?! Terrible!
I'm a little surprise at the lack of Tessa's reaction.

[X] No, test your weapon by training with Hero's Shade instead.

Let test the shape-shifting weapon in a safe place, I don`t want to find myself with a blade in the chest because we hold it in the wrong end and only to be save because the amount of "meat" between the skin and our heart.

[X] No, test your weapon by training with Hero's Shade instead.

We have a shiny new weapon. Make sure we can use it before some Soma idiot uses it to pay for their fix

Weasel and I are dealing with some RL issues and are in bad headspace as a result. Updates will be sporadic, please bear with us.

Chapter 5: Part 11
[X] Head to the Dungeon, but stick to the first floor.

"Sure thing, Tessa," you tell the diminutive Weretiger. You turn to Ian. "Up for it, Partner?"

Ian taps the sword at his belt and nods. Your Supporter squeals with glee, then runs off to get her backpack and gear. Time to go First Floor skimming!

As you turn to leave, Urist, catches your attention from one of the tables, where he's drinking his Dorf Juice. "Catbirb. Shrooms are not strong. How were you spored?"

"Oh! Uh..." You blush, rubbing the back of your head, just under your ponytail. "It's the dumbest thing, but... I figured I could tame it, like I heard some people do."

"Hmm..." Urist rubs at his chin, and your ears perk in curiosity.

"What is it, Craftsman?"

"Nothing."

Well, you know you won't be able to get anything else out of him, so you head outside with Ian to wait for Tessa to gather her gear.

The Gem-Sho handles like a dream. It seems to swing easier, cleave through Goblins easier, and it seems easier to pull out after thrusting through a Kobold's head. You haven't been able to test out its use as a spellcasting weapon, though. But as a spear? Top quality weapon, right here.

Other than that, it's a fairly standard grinding session. The first floor enemies are pitifully weak for three Level 1 Adventurers with your stats. You spend all day grinding, then when night falls, you head back to the Underworld Dormitory.

You lay on the bed, topless, as Hades updates your Status. After pushing the glowing numbers and letters back into the tattoo on your back, he presses the paper to it, then stands and hands it to you. You sit up, using one arm to (inadequately, considering their size) cover your bosom and the other to examine your Status.

"Well done reaching a new letter rank on your Magic Ability, Rooster. Don't neglect your training with Ryuu," Hades advises.

"Yes. Thank you, Dad."

Hades nods. "My pleasure. Now try to get some sleep."

That might be hard with that food coma you went into, but... hey, you'll give it a shot.

...Turns out you don't have to worry. It's been a pretty draining day, so while it takes an hour of tossing and turning, you eventually doze off, albeit only for a few hours. Can probably do some parkour or reading later...

-o-

You awake atop the Babel Tower, naked and under a sunset sky with stationary clouds. You groan as you sit up, realizing you're having that dream again.

You go to sit at the edge of the tower with your bare legs dangling over the edge and wait for the old man to appear. Sure enough...

"Hello, Rooster."

You glance to see Rixis standing there. No, not Rixis... At least, you think it's not Rixis. Is it? Ugh, so confusing...

"I can tell you have a lot of questions..." the old man says, one hand gripping his cane in front of his feet as the other gloved hand reaches up to lift the brim of his fedora, casting you a warm smile.

"Saying that doesn't do any good. I mean, you have to know that, right?" you sigh.

"Yes, I suppose I do. But I get the urge to say it. I don't have many other people I can say it to." Rixis says.

"Oh. Right. Sorry," you say, gazing forlornly down at the empty city of Orario.

Rixis chuckles in a dignified manner. "That's okay. You're the only one who can see the real me. I'll keep waiting until the day you remember."

You pause for a moment. "Will it be much longer?"

He shrugs. "I don't know. It might be tomorrow, or it might be a long way off. It all depends on you, I guess."

You sigh again. "I understand."

There's a comfortable silence that passes over the two of you.

"What should I call you? I'm not sure if you're really Rixis or not, so it seems weird to call you that, even in my head..."

The old man brings his gloved hand to his chin. "Hm... Well, you're right. I am a man who is quite elusive."

"Elusive?"

He chuckles again. "Indeed. Tell me, how does one define elusiveness? The answer is simple... Always be the one who finds, never the one who is found. In this sense, I embody elusiveness. I only appear to you now because I will it. If you were to try to find me yourself, you never could. That is the meaning of being an elusive man."

An... Elusive Man. Hmm...

"Well, it's almost time, so we should wrap this up. I know I say this every time, but I'll close with it anyway."

"Sure. Please do."

"Make sure you don't forget what happened today."

OMAKE: "Space HYDRA" by LeianD

I... What?

So, does this mean we're going to start working for space HYDRA?

You shiver despite the heat licking your back; hands over your head and curled into a ball, trying to pretend everything's fine and that the smoke isn't suffocating you and your home's not on fire and that everyone's still okay and that Ian's milky eyes aren't judgingstaring at you and oh god why why why why whywhywhywhywhy—

A cough. Your heart stops.

A twitch. Footsteps.

"Tessa...?"

Rooster. Oh, gods Rooster. She shouldn't— They're all—

You crack one eye open.

It's still burning. The smoke hurts. But, Rooster.

Sweet, sweet Rooster, covered in ash and cuts and blood and there's a holeholehole—

You gasp, accidentally inhaling smoke.

Your lungs kept burning still.

...

Soft.

You slow on your coughing fit and shiver.

"Shh, it's okay. It's all going to be okay." said Rooster, whose voice once aroused you on occasion, but is now keeping what's left of your sanity together. "It's going to be fine."

A hand. Caressing your head, and also your cheek.

Eyes. Beautiful, golden eyes.

Lips. Getting closer wait what why is she getting closer—

A breath, near your ears. So loud. So soothing.

Inhale.

"...Hail HYDRA."

Pain.

Chapter 6: Part 1
With a yawn, you pull yourself out of bed. You groan, rubbing at your eyes. It was another rough night, but at least you slept. Stepping over to your window, you gaze out at the streets of Orario, marveling at the spring flowers.

You've officially been an Adventurer of the Hades Familia for six months. You're still Level 1 but your Basic Abilities have been steadily rising. You also have shiny new armor made by Frobo three months ago, but... Well, it's been getting pretty scuffed and beaten up over the past months. You really need to learn to stop pushing yourself so hard...

The smell of breakfast wafts to your nose, so you throw on a beige tunic and brown breeches and head downstairs to the tavern floor. Everyone is already at the table, save for Urist, who's been gone for the past week. He didn't say where he was going or why, just that he had to make a trip to see one of his... cousins. You think. He refers to every Dwarf as "Cousin," including the ones he isn't related to.

"Aye, mornin', kid," Hero's Shade calls from the table, where he's nursing his morning mug of ale. "Ya just missed Morn Rower. He stopped by fer breakfast, then said he had t' make another trip."

Curses, foiled again! Sighing, you step up to the table and sit between Tessa and... Alivia? Huh, looks like the Hermes Familia's bunny-scout is joining the Hades Familia for breakfast again.

"Morning, hot stuff!" the Hume Bunny greets, grinning at you. She looks to be building some kind of structure out of her scrambled eggs and pancakes. The pear-shaped messenger has really helped train your Magic stat what with her Haste spell.

"Rooster! Morning!" The diminutive Weretiger greets.

Ian, from the other side of Tessa, raises his fork of pancakes in greeting to you. You've actually been spending some down-time lately trying to teach the Werewolf how to read. So far, he's not skilled enough to be able to write messages to you, and he's a bit resistant to your teachings, but you're definitely making progress.

You pull up a chair and grab a bowl of cereal, a plate of pancakes, a fluffy omelet, a plate of French toast, a plate of bacon, and a glass of milk, noting that a few of the Hades Familia Veteran Squad are staring again. You'd think they'd be used to how much you eat by now.

You have to say, if there's anything you enjoy about being in this world, it might be these breakfasts with the Hades Familia. It's really like you're one big family...

Now, how should you spend your morning?
