Actually... I assume that just because we don't pick a character doesn't mean they stop doing their thing. They're just not under our direct control. Would it be possible to have multiple characters at some point (via perspective switch at relevant points, if you think you can write for that)? Or even just one but acquiring the others as allies?

Probably not, unless someone who knows all these canons is willing to help me out. I'm already going to have to rewatch the "main timeline" in order to avoid screwing up the main characters and friends personalities, though of course, liberties will be taken in order to fit the altered backstories (Average does not mean the same thing after an alien forged apocalypse).

You have been, ever since right before the Seeds formed their barrier about a week ago. You were on your way home from your arms lessons. What were you planning on specializing in again?
[] Unarmed fighting. It's a dangerous world out there, and far too often, the monsters find someone unarmed. Without powers you can't hope to stand up to the greatest of them, but not all monsters are inhuman, and those ones have a tendency to catch you off guard. Unlocks Advanced Strike Arts.
[] Swords fighting. Your father's started giving lessons, helping those who want to join the hunter corps. Someone needs to clear out the monsters from the wilderness. Nanoha uses Modern Belkan style.
[] Guns. Well, you're not allowed to use firearms yet, you're too young, and even in this ruined world, adults don't really want to hand out guns to nine year olds. You like watching them though, and you're training up your aim and stance. Nanoha uses Mid-childan Style.
Well, either way, you were on your way back to the tents when you heard a cry for help. Looking back, it might have been a bit naive, but what else could you have done? Just left them? No, you had to help. You ran out, leaving the safety of the marked paths and reclaimed areas, making your way into the ruined woods. There, you found a golden ferret, lying injured. Around it's neck was a small red orb. You reached out to take it in hand, and it turned it's gaze upon you. "Thank you." It sent to your mind before fainting. You didn't know of any magi in the area, but there had been reports of a Witch. Perhaps he was here to fight it? You took him home. He awoke only shortly after, and explained. "My name is Yuuno." He told you, "I'm an Archeologist of the Scrya clan. I'd found a set of 21 Lost Logia, the Jewel Seeds. You see, they're powerful artifacts, storing immense amounts of energy, and can channel that energy to different purposes. They want to be used though, and so they'll try to grant the wishes of anyone nearby. While they're not malicious, they might grant a wish badly, and cause immense destruction. I was bringing them back to Mid-Childa to be properly contained when my ship was struck by a dimensional storm and the Seeds were scattered. I came down to retrieve them, but I was hurt as the ship fell, and then the Seed I was just fighting managed to defeat me. They seem to have set up some sort of jamming as well, because I can't contact the local TSAB forces that were sent to provide relief. I'm sorry to ask this of you, but can you help me? You have a lot of magical power, I can tell."
How could you say no? You agreed, and he gave you Raising Heart. But only a day later, someone made a wish. The Seeds heard, and as is their purpose, they granted it. The entire city was caught up in the Barrier they created. Far stronger and larger than a Witch's barrier was supposed to be, it warped your surroundings, returning them to a pristine state. At each corner of the Barrier, a Seed floats, defending itself with powerful strikes of energy, and maintaining the Barrier. It's not as if you're trapped, though. There's a built in way of exiting, a gateway in the massive stone walls that the Jewel Seeds created. By walking through the gates, you leave the barriers as well, and the people who are willing to brave the monsters that stalk the night have gone out, hunting for more supplies to return to the city, trying to set up communications with anyone else that might be out there.
In fact, you might even say it was a good thing, what the Seeds did. The only problem is that they're unstable. Three days after forming their barrier, one of the Seeds went berserk, spawning a trio of monsters straight into the middle of the city, each of which rampaged for hours before a group of police officers finally managed to put them down.
