CAPE WARS (OOC)

Back in the day when he was a Member of the Protectors. Now a days he just wears street clothes.

Name: Miguel Ruiz Jr

Pronouns: Him/He

Age: 37

Starting Location: Crescent City, Florida. His range is his home county of Putnam

Powers: His main power is what he terms as his Danger Sense which one reality is more of an Omni Present Sense that is more of a 5 Meter circle in which anything that remotely threatens him he can sense and react to. Beyond that he has super intelligence and SuperHuman Levels of Physical Abilities

Faction: Independent Miguel Generally just keeps the peace and tries to allow for the people he protects to live normally

Bio: Miguel was a normal boy when the Empowerment occured. He alongside every member of his friend group and his girlfriend received Super Powers. Miguel Operated as a member of the group the team was known as the Protectors. Miguel's name was Danger Man. Known as the most headstrong and up in your face hero this side of the Florida Georgia Line. Life was great for several years until they started losing members. Over the years people would leave until only a core group of five remained. Miguel, his friends Todd, Vincent, Matthew, Joey and Edward. His Girlfriend turned wife had retired after she gave birth to their first child, a bouncy baby girl.

They had been friends since middle school and were heros since their early twenties. Now in their late twenties they ruled over almost all of North Florida. That was until one fated fight. They had responded to reports of someone causing trouble out in Seville a little town around twenty minutes from their hometown. Everything was going great until Miguel's Danger Sense went haywire. He immediately ducked down yelling at everyone to drop when the man they where fighting fired a super charged laser weapon that was hidden behind a wooden planked fence. Todd, And Vincent where killed out right the laser almost out right. Joey died from his wounds in moments and Edward was knocked out. Miguel managed to beat the bad guy but the cost was two high. Both him and Edward retired afterwards.

The two of them would fade for almost half a decade working normal everyday jobs. Edward would end up moving out the country with his wife while Miguel was working as a Dock Builder. Until one day a bad guy showed up to his hometown and began issuing demands. Rounding up everyone in the town and forcing them to to give up valuables and such. It wasn't until the asshole turned his attention to the statue that was erected several years ago at the Town Hall. It was a statue of The Protectors in full. 25 Heros all in full costume. With a special in memorial epitaph attached to "The Bull", "Chimera", and "Captain Boom"

The man took one look at the statue and laughed before destroying it belittling the team and insulting the dead. This caused Miguel to snap and he rushed the man with his speed and began to dismantle him. Eventually killing him by smashing his skull against the rocks left over from the statue. It was after this that Miguel would once more begin to work as a hero. Although he hasn't donned his old Costume yet because he felt that being Danger Man was insulting to the dead. He had quit and stopped being a hero leaving those who depended on them to suffer. While small time now Miguel hopes to one day gain the strength to reform the Protectors. All while trying to raise his 5 children to be the best they can be and follow their own path. Alongside his loving wife.

As of right now Miguel has set up his patrol routes and works close with local law enforcement. All the while trying to upgrade his kit to better fight other supers.

Name: Lich (Formerly Endurance), Willamine Davis
Pronouns: She/Her
Age: 37 (23 at Empowerment)
Starting Location: Albany, New York
Faction: Upstate

Bio: Born in 1993 and AMAB in Lincoln, Nebraska, Willamine lived an unexceptional life of quietly building pressure. A strong if not exceptional track athlete at Creighton University for Dentistry struggling to meet the expectations of her parents, it was a few months into the Empowerment as it was called that she realized that she had powers at all. Being struck by a car while walking to class one day should have ended her career if not her life. Instead, she found herself wearing clothes stained with blood but without a scratch on her body and lying on the sidewalk.

In 2015, Endurance appeared on the scene. High visibility vest, a brace of Tasers across his chest, a stun prod, and a backpack of medical supplies. For roughly 3 years Endurance worked the best they could day and night to be A Superhero. Fighting crime, assisting firefighters, public outreach, and more. Between Lincoln and Omaha, Endurance made himself known as a pure-hearted defender of the public good.
In 2020, the Year of the Super Villians killed Endurance. Becoming involved in escalating violence against increasingly aggressive supervillains and far-right militias, things reached their head in a hostage situation at a local high school. Originally nearby by chance, Endurance did not intend to enter the building or otherwise intervene. But knowing he was immune to the worst the hostage takers could do and faced with the inept inaction of the Police, Endurance entered the building.

The exact details of what happened inside after Endurance managed to free most of the hostages are unclear, but a fire broke out following a series of explosions. 5 Students were killed, as well as the hostage takers. The number of hostage takers remains unknown and Endurance's destroyed equipment was able to be recovered. Publicly Endurance was declared dead, and further investigation was thwarted by increasing chaos across the nation.

In actuality, Endurance survived having lost both legs and their sight from the first explosion. Inside the now-burning building, Endurance discovered her second power. Grappling with a hostage taker, her hands rotted the man's flesh. With each second of contact, her regeneration speed doubled and doubled again until the flesh around the man's throat gave way, triggering a deadman's switch as he slumped to the floor.

Thrown from the building by the force of the explosion, Willamine Davis would survive the blast. Endurance would not.

Lich would appear first in rumor a year later near Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A would-be mugger would be admitted to a hospital screaming about some ghost bitch decaying his hand and his junk. Next, a woman flying an LGBTQ flag would walk through a fusillade of gunfire to throw an IED into a building used by a local far-right gang.

The first time Lich as an identifiable cape appeared was Des Moines. Armed and wearing mismatched tactical gear with a skull balaclava, she protected a local Mayoral candidate facing increased death threats from supervillains. From there on, Litch would trace a disjointed past Eastward. Staying in a town or community for months, protecting either those who could pay or she judged worthy.

In the increasing chaos of the United States, there are hours of footage of her fighting across the Midwest against far-right militias, 2-bit supervillains, Popular Front radicals, police, and national guardsmen. Fighting with an ever-changing set of equipment and weapons ranging from rifles and grenades to swords and her bare hands. Speaking rarely on why she fought early on, she would eventually declare simply "I am here to protect people so they do not get hurt."

As her reputation grew, so did a group of hangers-on and associates. Whenever she would move from town to town for one reason or another, a growing following would follow her. The Milicha as they refer to themselves can be categorized as Lich's personal guard. Comprised of an eclectic mix of National Guard deserters, homegrown militia fighters, displaced persons looking for safety, they are loosely organized but all loyal to Lich.

Originally making Lich uncomfortable due to the risk to themselves during the fights they posed, they have evolved into a strong supporting element of snipers and scouts to cover Lich as she fights, as well as provide her with freshly repaired weapons and armor.

In 2028, Lich led her group north from Cincinnati after being faced with increasing pressure from the Federal government to align herself with them against Captain Power in the north and General Strike to the west. Refusing to be forced to fight for a government that had not protected her and seeing the promise of secure irrelevancy in the Republic of New York, she arrived there in the summer of 28'.

Arriving at the Republic of New York Lich first was met by its stalwart defender Justice. While a rocky start at first, Lich has come to see Justice as a kindred spirit fighting to do good as best they can. While off-put by the fragile state of the Republic and struggling to manage her growing political influence, Lich has decided that she will plant her banner here and move it no further. Her Milicha, officially now the 2nd Special Support Detachment, stands by her side.

Powers: Lich possesses the ability to regenerate through sustained gunfire, flames, explosions, poisons, and broadly any form of bodily harm she has encountered to date. Further, while she does feel pain from her injuries, past a certain level it dulls to a point allowing her to still fight while missing multiple limbs. The rate of regeneration is extreme even at its baseline but is augmented further by her second power. If she is able to touch a living thing, she can cause the flesh of that being to necrotize. As she does so, the regeneration effect speeds up proportionally to the amount of flesh necrotized and reaches arbitrary speeds if she kills a person via this.

This level of regeneration allows her to efficiently support an Olympian's physique tunned to brutal close combat with firearms, explosives, and assorted melee weapons. Further, she does not tire during combat and requires a great deal less sleep and food.

Personality/Description: Lich has curated a personality of steady stoicism since her introduction in 2022. Brutal when fighting those who have earned her enmity, in other cases she has shown a great deal of restraint. A notable subset of her fights with individuals were fought in an explicitly duel-like format, and Lich has repeatedly stated that her honor is an important aspect to her.

Politically, Lich has rejected any labels applied to her and has professed few views other than a strong belief in individual rights, a personal hatred of the right, personal frustration with the government attempting to conscript her, and bitter distrust of the Popular Front. She has used her position as the 2nd big name hero in the NYR to endorse or support political questions that were important to her but has avoided the spotlight.

Willamine Davis when not cultivating the persona of Lich is a quiet, tired trans dyke. Never wanting the responsibility of dozens of people and their families, she is reserved around most people. Those she does trust she protects fiercely, to the extent of avoiding most public interaction to hide their identity. Appearance-wise she is tall with short cut deep black hair and not a scar or blemish on her.

Name: The Hornet (Kody Kerr)

Pronouns: He/Him

Age: 41

Starting Location: Oregon

Powers: The Hornet is a giant (6 feet) arthropod. Genetically there is about only 5% of human DNA still present, the rest being a combination, in roughly equal proportions, of spider, beetle, wasp and onychophoran genome.

This peculiar composition has given him many toys to play with. Super Strength and durability proportional to its size. A tough exo-skeleton that can stop low calibers. Two pairs of wings that allow some small flight capabilities (obviously slower than those of flying bricks), multiple limbs and regeneration, which can cure even important injuries (such as missing limbs) by molting (which leaves him in a vulnerable state while it is ongoing).

Faction: Popular Front.

Bio: Kody should have died when he was 25. A combination of an awfully dark Oregon night, extreme tiredness from work and an unkept road would have killed any other normal human being that found themselves in the crash that would ensue. But luck would have it that following that night he wouldn't be one normal human being, when he regained consciousness the following morning, there was life amongst the crash site, a 6 feet bug, him.

Kody, now The Hornet, should have died in his first year after The Empowerment, still adjusting to a new body in which talking was difficult, movement was still awkward and vision multi-directional. But insects are few things if not resilient, and every time he got his exo-skeleton broken, his tracheal system drowned in smoke or his limbs cut off, he came back from the battle learning new things about himself. Eventually he became a terrifying foe to Oregon's underground elements.

The Hornet should have died in the years after the battle of DC. As any Facade of order in the US fell, many old and new villains surfaced again. It wouldn't take long for him to be overwhelmed, and in desperation fleeing to Oregon's great forests.

Here stress, fear and sheer panic would take hold of him, becoming a ravenous animal unable to control his own behavior. This episode would last for weeks on end, and by the end of it he became as afraid of himself as of dying by the supervillains. He would come back to civilization, slowly, and join the PNW chapter of the Popular Front (both due to a genuine desire to help, and because he thinks he'll be more likely to survive with them). As much as things seem to be improving in the North West, his episodes are growing more common, and longer, it may not take long for Kody Kerr, to truly die, only The Hornet remaining

SLIME

Slime has no vocal chords. Given the nature of its "empowerment," it is hotly debated whether Slime is still considered one of us. While its normal appearance is that of a large mass of gelatinous fluid, it is capable of mimicking the form of a human being, but one firmly entrenched in the uncanny valley. Slime is able to communicate via Morse code when fully "together." Attached below the photo is a transcript of Slime describing itself in Concord, New Hampshire.
I am not him. I am not her. I am not them. I am Slime. I was born when the great boom happened. Sixteen cold times ago. That was in DC. I remember being hungry. There were a lot of leftovers. The more I ate, the more I grew. But after a while there was less food. I moved up to find more food. I met Red Hammer. He's the toughest person I know. He really hurt me to stop me from living like an animal.

When Red Hammer was finished, he asked me to join him. Many of you do confusing things. You kill a lot, but you do not eat. Why is that? You have war. Why is that? So strange. I asked Red Hammer. He said bad people caused it. I asked who the bad people were. He said they were the ones who stopped him from accomplishing the goals of the revolution. He said I would never go hungry again under him. I joined him. Now I am never hungry. Instead, I am happy. I love Red Hammer!

Powers: Slime has a body that can morph and split at will. It can often slip through the tightest of spaces. When in a frenzied state, it can shoot forward at up to 20 mph for short periods of time. Slime can control the body parts it splits from itself at the cost of some intelligence. An ambush predator, Slime can't take on most superhumans in a fair fight. However, Slime's body can digest anything it engulfs.

Name: John Marshall "The Marshal"
Pronouns: he/his
Age: 48
Starting Location: The Great Lakes Republic
Powers: Teleportation to places he can see
Faction: Popular Front
Bio: A reluctant lawman among revolutionaries, John Marshal was born in Chicago in the late 90s and grew up idolizing Eliot Ness and the "golden era" of Chicago gangsters and lawmen. Obsessed with the past, Marshall would join the Chicago Police Force before quickly realizing the ineptitude, racist, and corrupt nature of policing was not for him. He hated what CPD had become, and he had no interest in working for an agency that engaged in the same crimes that he fought against.

Marshall became a private investigator in Chicago, offering his services to impoverished and disadvantaged people to fight against the corrupt system that he grew to despise. When the Empowerment began, Marshall was one of the lucky few to be granted powers, precisely a sense of teleportation that allowed him to snap his fingers and "snap" from one place to another. The one caveat was that he had to be able to see where he was teleporting.

During the peak of anarchy and chaos in Chicago, Marshall became "the Marshal", a vigilante who cracked down on organized crime that was rising in the city and helped to organize the city of Chicago into a beacon of stability. Working with non-powered civilian leaders, he openly took a backseat, refusing to be the city's public face and instead operating from the shadows to ensure that Chicago did not fall to supervillain or fascistic tyranny. When the Great Lakes Republic was established, The Marshal was begrudgingly recruited by RJ Wyatt to serve as one of the chief investigators and law enforcement officials of the nascent Republic. Although hesitant at first to engage in policing, The Marshal proved incredibly apt at crushing right-wing dissent and keeping criminals and supervillains from establishing themselves in the Great Lakes region. Building up a cadre of dedicated, idealistic supers and civilian enforcement officials who genuinely believe in the mission of the Great Lakes Republic, The Marshal is one of General Strike's staunchest allies.

BRAVO (YAMANE AKANE)

AGE: 40 (23 AT EMPOWERMENT)
CURRENT LOCATION: FLORIDA
FACTION: VENOM (@triumph8w)

Yamane Akane was a rebellious child. She was the second American-born child of her family, and due to this her Japanese parents passed over her in favor of her older brother, who they constantly used as a benchmark to judge the more unruly Akane by. This of course did wonders for her personality, and soon she began dipping in and out of various private schools before having a spot bought for her by her father in a cushy college.

Akane dropped out. She joined the Marines instead.

Somehow Akane made it through basic training; in fact, she passed through with flying colors. Perhaps it was expected that she, bored by topics such as history and mathematics, would take so well to the art of war. Two months later, she was stationed at an air base in Iraq, fighting off insurgents and what would eventually become known as ISIS. She returned home a year later and was stationed at Norfolk.

The state of Virginia was a boring place at first glance, but Naval Station Norfolk was anything but. With civilian experience in the military falling drastically after the Cold War, the maintenance of many of America's top weapons systems was transferred over to Army personnel. This was how Akane found herself maintaining the United States's aging ballistic missile submarines, with her speciality residing in repairing the sub's nuclear reactors. An onerous duty to be sure, but it was one located far away from the stresses of academic achievement and familial pressures.

Then the Empowerment occurred, and Akane woke up screaming, her body covered in scales and keloid scars and burning with blue fire.

Akane's experience in the military changed heavily after that. As one of the few American supers enlisted in the military, and a hard-hitting one at that, Akane was immediately promoted all the way to the rank of Warrant Officer, grade 5, and was promptly shuffled off by the CIA and the Pentagon for her value as a walking nuclear deterrent. From there she served as the United States's most valuable direct action asset, often sent into wartorn areas to kill cartel leaders and insurgent revolutionaries.

Then the United States itself collapsed, of course. Akane was too busy rampaging through some godforsaken village she didn't know the name of to fight in the Battle of DC, and by the time she had managed to charter a flight to Miami the rest of the country had fallen to pieces. Unwilling to evacuate to Cheyanne and unable to contact her family (who had fled to the more stable Japan), Akane adopted the mercenary profession, doing more and more dangerous jobs to fund her increasingly self-destructive activities.

Akane had grown cynical over the years, distrustful of any sort of authority. She had acted as a bodyguard to warlords, crushed union protests with her atomic breath, and blown up Loyalist military bases, all for the cause of money and profit; her entrepreneurial parents would be proud of her. The collapse of America and her time as a stateless agent has left her with a Randian outlook on life. To her, the government was inept, the Pentagon was wasteful, taxation was theft, and libertarianism was the way forward.

So when the Venom Commander came to her, offering the ability to upend the table entirely, Akane accepted immediately. The suitcase full of scavenged enriched uranium from a shut-down nuclear reactor helped, but Akane has always been an enterprising woman, able to see the opportunity before her.

Akane disappeared soon after. And Bravo came onto the stage.

ABNORMALITIES

NOTES ON STRENGTHS:
  • Bravo's body has become what is essentially a thermonuclear reactor on two legs, capable of producing immense amounts of energy. Each one of her abilities and weaknesses stems from this key aspect of her.
  • Bravo is capable of projecting thermonuclear radioactive energy over long distances in the form of blue (or when close to meltdown, orange/red, then after that purple) atomic beams from her mouth, which is capable of carving through walls, vehicles, human beings, entire buildings, etc. (with the caveat of recoil, she has to brace herself to do this). She can even emit a nuclear pulse, throwing destructive atomic energy in all directions, obliterating anything within ten meters.
  • Bravo has been observed to possess extremely high durability, shrugging off .50 caliber bullets, missiles, bombs, anti-tank rounds, fire, high falls, etc., while also possessing superhuman strength, speed, and above-average regeneration rates. Additionally, Bravo has almost unlimited physical stamina thanks to her body's thermonuclear reactor.
  • In order to adapt to Bravo's new situation, her body has become immune to all sorts of radiation, although the gamma radiation produced by her has an extremely short half-life of thirty seconds and isn't as lethally capable as other gamma radiation variants.

NOTES ON WEAKNESSES:
  • Unfortunately for Bravo, the requirements of maintaining her body's internal thermonuclear reactor has resulted in her metabolism increasing drastically to the point where she must consume a large quantity of calories each day. This can be substituted with the ingestion of amounts of radioactive material (nuclear waste, refined uranium, etc.) which would allow her to go around a month without "refueling", but such material is incredibly dangerous to handle or transport. This issue was resolved during her time with the Marines by having a team of handlers deliver food on-site, as well as relay orders and spot targets for her.
  • If Bravo uses her powers too extensively to the point of exhaustion over a short period of time, her body can come dangerously close to undergoing a miniature nuclear meltdown, requiring her to escape a battle and cool off in some way (taking a dive into a large body of cold water works best). If all else fails, Bravo's body will fail to contain the escalating nuclear reaction occurring inside her, and her death throes will consist of her becoming a miniature Chernobyl.
  • Bravo routinely emits radioactive particles. Although it isn't a pressing issue due to the particle's short half-life, it has resulted in Bravo keeping a distance from other humans due to the risk of getting cancer. Her current Venom handling team all wear CBRN equipment.

FURTHER NOTES:
  • Bravo's body has gained pitch-black keltoid scars everywhere on her body, upper and lower arms, legs, and lower neck, appearing almost like scales. Her eyes have become yellow and lizard-like, while her teeth have grown sharper. She even has gained a reptilian-like tail, dotted with dorsal fins.
  • Bravo has been observed to possess enhanced senses (20/20 vision, sensitive hearing, enhanced smell, taste, etc.).
  • Bravo has gained external gills on her neck, allowing her to breathe in and out of water.

Name: Captain Phillip "Playback" Finch
Pronouns: He/Him
Age: 38
Starting Location: Florida

Powers: Eidetic memory, hyper intelligence and photographic reflexes
Faction: Loyalist

Bio: Phillip was born an army brat traveling from base to base across the world due to his parent's Army careers. A model student, star athlete and hard worker he had a fairly standard childhood beyond constantly moving around. It was no surprise when he grew up to anyone that he would enlist to serve his country following his parent's example. He was in Afghanistan on patrol when the Empowerment occurred feeling an intense feeling of something happening when his convoy got attacked. Overloading of information made it impossible for him to react in that moment as fire raged around them. Assumed to be suffering from sort of mental breakdown he was taken to a medical facility for treatment.

While under observation it became clear that Phillip's condition was a result of what was now being called the Empowerment. While Phillip had always been intelligent he now seemed to be able to absorb information at an accelerated rate devouring the hospital library while under observation while showing an incredible ability to copy the actions of those he observed. After watching an NBA game he was suddenly playing on the NBA tier at the hospital's basketball court much to the annoyance of the staff and other patients.

The Army desperate for a solution to the super powered beings that now showed up in massive numbers would begin training Finch to serve as an contingent against those that sought to harm the citizens and government of the United States. Snipers, martial arts experts, pilots and more would show the assets known as Playback by the government their methods. He went from a model soldier to one of the most effective soldiers in America's arsenal against super powered threats. Always amused by the instance of people wearing tights he worked with those he felt had a good moral compass making a point of never wearing them himself.

The Year of the Supervillain though was where it all went to shit. Playback fought alongside his friends and comrades against those inspired by King Steel's attempt at the throne. It felt like fighting the tide but they fought on as the losses slowly mounted. Then Minuteman showed up with Playback once against fighting alongside his friends during the Battle of D.C. managing to get severely injured. The situation deteriorated rapidly with information that the Federal government had become more tangled and confused. Intelligence stated that Commander Venom with his little fiefdom in D.C. Playback had fought the three ring circus that was Venom before the Year of the Supervillain so injecting himself with painkillers went to secure at least one front against the government.

It didn't go as well as Playback expected managing to get captured by Venom Commander as he prepared his escape from the hectic D.C. area. Why Venom Commander took Playback bleeding out with him to his new base of operations in Florida Finch has no idea but he sure as hell wasn't allowed to leave. Refusing to join VENOM he has been held in captivity while the world burned finally breaking out after a guard forgot to retrieve the plastic spork given to Playback for his meals. On the run from VENOM Playback is one of the last of surviving heroes still loyal to the American government, he took an oath a long time ago he won't quit now.

"To dream a dream so grand it becomes a miracle. The wrong people have been pulling the strings for far too long. In my world…The only one who may alter fate is me."

Name: Dreamwalker, The Master of Nightmares
Pronouns: He/They
Age: Unknown
Starting Location: Unknown, appears only in dreams.
Powers: The Dreamwalker is able to freely enter anyone's dreams, or is able to bring many people into a shared dream world. And they are able to manipulate the dream world and anyone within it as they wish. To as fantastical as any Dream can be or indistinguishable from reality. The Master of Nightmares, nor anyone within a dream, cannot be killed or harmed. What they can do however, is freely witnesses their fears, desires, and important memories while within their dreams. The Dreamwalker does not need to show himself either, instead able to play a silent observer or puppet master. Collecting information or creating specific scenarios so perfect that the dreamer will never know it was a dream, playing it out to his whim. And like most dreams, unless the Dreamwalker desires otherwise, their memory of it, or ever meeting him, will fade away in the morning.
Faction: Independent.
Bio:

The Dreamwalker before the Empowerment is an unknown. A secret known only to them, and it is an identity they have cast off of their own will. Instead they have taken to their powers for solitude, at-least until the age of supervillains. When America broke, DC was destroyed, and civil war engulfed the country. That is when, whoever the Dreamwalker was before they were the Master of Nightmares, decided that things needed to change.

In their world, the weak will not be trampled. The strong will not overrule. And those helpless will find new hope. But unfortunately, for all their power over dreams and nightmares, they can not affect the real world. At-least not directly. Thus the Dreamwalker was born. And whispers of their existence have begun to crop up. An individual appearing in the form of starlight and a grinning comedy mask. The Master of Nightmares can learn, and use their knowledge to try and manipulate events for their own goals. The betterment of all and an end to this living nightmare. So they say to those who they have chosen to appear to and remember their words.

Enigmatic but altruistic goals aside. The Dreamwalker has been trying to subtly influence events and gather information for ten years. They can't kill, but they know many of the major warlords better then they know themselves. And not many know of their existence either. Whispers perhaps. And they have some followers of their own, allies to do the work they can't do themselves. To move things into place or gather resources and money. The Dreamwalker has a plan. To make this world their dream.

Name: Victor Kovacs , " Cleaner "
Pronouns: He/Him
Age: 42
Starting Location: New-York
Powers: Increased strength and reflex up to athletes or martial artists levels of ability , his real tool of trade is the ability to corrode material through contact
Faction: Independent

Circunstances before Empowerment irrelevant , nobody born out of a pair of nobodies , mere janitor.
Nose in constant filth thrown out from above , disgusting detritus , digusting people.
One floor above me in rodent infested appartment block , shouts each night from a mangled dog in human shape and it's victim.
One night below offices to scrounge vomit and discovered I could clean it all up , made him above quiet same night.

Not only one abnormal , many others , bright eyed and naive though.
Kept away from them and all the handshakes with crooked cops and corrupt mayors under flashes of degenerate journos.
Someone had to clean up while they all graduated from doing actual work to TV show with stains in spandex.
All them probably could have taken care of Steel sooner if not for all the theatrics.

Heard Minuteman appeals and speeches , Agreed.
Someone asked me to join , Refused.
Janitor , not soldier.
In the end Minuteman was right in that the US is a swamp , but he only proved to be one more predator.
Not unlike those well to do and distinguished people cruising out of their suburbs to swim along with dredges and scum to prey and devour them , not unlike some spots I had to clean before.

Thought to myself could leave this all alone , situation would resolve itself , one spandex would take care of the other , but supers are now invasive , threathen all the fishes in the swamp and the swamp itself.
Won't graduate from the usual , can always squeeze some work in , but I now know that I have to take care of the deviants , of those like me too.
Doesnt matter if reds , feds , patriots , or whatever excuse they may spout , got to scrub hard and hose down the filthy running around.

Eddie Huerta , the " Walking Apocalypse "

Pronouns: He/Him
Age: 47
Starting Location: El Paso , Tejas
Powers: Extreme strength and resistance , effectively a walking brick
Faction: Independent Warlord

For some the empowerment was a quiet affair , a tale of exciting tries under cover of night and tests out of prying eyes , a gradual journey of accepting their role of heroes.
For Eddie , caught in a shootout between cops and some kind of criminal it was a necessity.
One instant bracing himself for death huddled over some child , one moment next feeling bullets hit him harmlessly , he stood up and simply bent down guns from both sides.
So started a career of super heroism under then the name Angel , marked by his constant refusal to bring direct harm and favoring de-escalation over mindlessly charging in , even if it did not always brought him praises from the authorities or some more pro-active supers.
Like the rest of the nation he was horrified by the successive actions of Steel but refused to join greater teams not out of mysanthropy but out of concern for his city.
Like most heroes he was angered by the words and actions of Minuteman , but yet again he did not join , not trusting himself to be an adequate enough fighter despite his abilities , not trusting himself to be able to do what seemed necessary.
The outcome would make him fall into regrets , despairing of how many death rays he could have shielded fellow heroes , how many people he could have lifted out of rubbles.
The years to come would test him amid the disintegration of the USA , crime waves one after another , would-be Minuteman again and again seeking blood , Super-villains running amock , more and more people he could not save , all despite his best efforts to organise communities self-defense , to convince gangs to lay down arms or use them for the better , until at least one ray of light out of a distant cloud of dust that had seemed to fall over all the US : a US armed forces group and at their head a shining fellow super endorsed by the government.

Oh so disappointing that it only was a super_villain carving his own fiefdom with a veneer of legitimacy , how infuriating that police immediately joined the US army into a crackdown on neighborhoods he had until now kept simmering and no more , how enraging it was to see community leaders arrested for " secessionism " and " popular front sympathies ".
By the time a super-villain rival he had taken great efforts to redeem was killed ion front of him by that federal super , he was seeing only red.
When he regained control of himself he had reduced this super to pulp and taken his first life , by the end of the day he had declared open season on the US Army and was bending down tank cannons and flinging cars at infantry squads.
By the end of the month the Army retreated , by the end of the second month he had crushed anyone who thought it meant the end of authority.

Recruiting from second rate redeemed super-villains , gangs he had previously fought and community self-defense he had helped formed , he established his own personalist dicatorship and assumed his new monicker.
Eddie's rule is populist : anyone is free to petition him for arbitration , and he is not one to micromanage the life of people and be dogmatic about schools of economy.
The good ladies in the textile workshop strike and complain of poor conditions and incompetence ? The management will be made to understand what happen to those who do wrong to the people of El Paso , or removed if The Walking Apocalypse feels like it.
A local guy managed to found a buisness and made fortune scamming people from Nemesis or from Cheyenne ? Good for him , a nice local success story !
As long as everyone remember that blood only flow with The Walking Apocalypse express approval and only then , all is well.

Name: Aegis (formerly Mike Thompson)
Pronouns: He/Him
Age: 35
Starting Location: Texas City
Powers: Hyperbody - Aegis is incredibly strong, fast and durable. Unlike the typical flying brick he can't fly however which usually causes people to underestimate how high and far he can jump. Aegis wears a heavy and crude metal armour decorated with trophies from the various military forces and supers he bested, that's where his name comes from.
Bio: Mike Thompson was deep in Afghanistan when the gods of war kindled the flame within him. Always a fighter he naturally gravitated towards combat sports and then a career in the military. He excelled in every test they gave him and quickly qualified for the sort of career no one below a top security clearance is even supposed to know about. Had the world stayed sane he would have probably killed Americas enemies for a decade or two and then would have graduated into a quiet career as an officer carefully nurturing the next generation of warriors. Instead, the world went mad, and Mike realized fate had bigger plans for him.

With all that has happened in America itself the fate of its overseas troops is rarely talked about. Most bases in truly friendly countries quietly and orderly withdrew to back to CONUS to reinforce the governments crumbling hold. A lot of bases however where in those corrupt regimes propped up by American dollars and guns Washington loved so much. When their heroes awoke, they killed their corrupt overlords and then went on to take revenge on the Americans that had oppressed them for so long. In Afghanistan all the officers and civilians boarded planes and fled the country when some of its people woke up with the fire of the gods at their disposal.

Abandoned the American soldiers huddled in their bases waiting for the inevitable revenge that would kill them. Mike however realized he could save his comrades and started fighting. He quickly realized help wasn't coming and began leading "his" men on a torturous march through mountain and deserts to reach India and get a ship home.

Battling the relentless soldiers of a vengeful god and watching his men die killed Mike and Aegis took his place.
Aegis is convinced he has a mythical kinship with the heroes of old. So, when his men heard about the collapse of America over satellite radio and despaired, he rejoiced. Having bested countless superpowered foes on their long march convinced him that it was his destiny to build the Commonwealth of Justice to end this Age of Wolves.

Marching through the remains of Afghanistan and Pakistan pushed Aegis and his men to their absolute limits. Hundreds died and Aegis, despite being immensely powerful, came close to death countless times.

In India itself Aegis and his men fought as mercenaries witnessing the shattering of the subcontinent and participating in the Kashmir War. Aegis even came face to face with Shaucha-yuddha briefly being grievously wounded but surviving. Upon his recovery he and his remaining men made one of the Indian rump governments agree that a few cargo ships and a tanker were adequate payment for helping save the subcontinent.

Finally reaching the Texan coast after a long and arduous journey Aegis and his men seized Texas city. Annihilating the cartel militia that held the city Aegis proclaimed the Commonwealth of Justice.

Name: James Roland/ One second
Pronouns: he/him
Age: 37
Starting Location: Lower Manhattan
Powers: Speedster - only when holding his breath
Faction: Upstate
Bio: Born and raised in New York City, James' life was pretty normal, with no big obstacles or triumphs, only a normal monotonous teen life.

When powers came New York City was set ablaze, from looting to "normal" fights with the neighbors suddenly became localized super-powered brawls, and as the world was burning James was partying.

Discovering his power was weird, while he was swimming in a public pool he suddenly (for the people outside) teleported to the other side.
After some hours of alcohol-fueled power testing, James had a rough idea of how it worked.. and with that, he decided to do some good.

Robberies stopped even before they began, drug dealers hogtied by ropes, supes discombobulated while monologuing about "their master plan".

Although this time as a "vigilante" Scared most crime in Manhattan underground it would end on a sour note, as a Criminal robing the state bank in the city entered Cardiac arrest after seeing James "teleport" in front of him and being disarmed by the Cape.

After that he decided to go legit, even got himself a snazzy super "costume" and everything

Name: Paul Hakins
Pronouns: he/him
Age: 30
Starting Location: North East Minnesota
Powers: He has control over animals and wildlife is able to direct them to perform actions even directing them to task even over very very long distance. The longer he is tethered so to speak to a animal or they stay close by him the stronger these animals will be in strength speed durability ect even if he or them leaves hims. He is also able to control plants and give them super growth as well leading to many trees being supercharged in height by him or other wildlife alongside other features like increased durability. This also becomes a potent comba ability as he can direct plants to attack or grow fast toward certain targets. They are also have some super strength/durability.

Faction: Independent...for now

Bio: Was raised within Northern Minnesota who had a love of the environment had a normal life and went to the University of Duluth for environmental science was a intern for the National Park Service in the Boundary Waters when event happened.

When Paul gots his power he at first didn't really do much with them other than dropping school and becoming a wander throughout northern minnesota the signs of his presence being trees that somehow were tall and strong as century old growth tree abundant plant life and much more active wildlife in areas they went by. Sometimes appearing to stop minor crimes they however started to grow more active as they started to intervene to stop environmental crimes being much more able to feel them in someway and much more easily be able to find it. There actions start to become much more active as the situation starts to decay throughout the country and mega mine corporations are able to get approval for multiple mega copper sulfide mines throughout northern minnesota at first he sticked to protest and some intimation actions like have wolf packs wander around the edge of the proposded mine sites. Eventully however as these actions were not working and if these mines went into action northern minnesota and in his mind the jewel of it the boundary waters would be destroyed. In the year of supervillians he led a swarm of animals, rat, wolves, eagles and super growthing plants within the facility to kill security force within one proposed mine site and using the plants animals to wreck the facility before blowing it to high water. This process was reapted with the next mine with all the other mines being abandoned with the increasing chaos in the country and no one willing to go try to deal with a small time problem more trouble than it worth. He control northern minnesota up to the red lake reservation, chippewa forest and duluth northward to quetico provincial park. They are extremely hands off war lord with duluth, native tribes and small town being most left to do what they want except making sure to be environmentally friendly as they can with most of his time spent in the most wild parts of his territory helping restore the old growths forest, the wildlife and more from the damage humans have done in the areas for hundred of years. Some areas still send represenatives down to minneaplois who still claim control over northern minnesota and these are mainly former mining towns or pro mining areas. There are mixed feelings on his territory since on one hand many like the hands off approach he has on the other hand many would like some government services to return with cities at the moment the only ones providing it with a vast array of different millita forces in the area with the most well equppided and trained being the duluth and red lake tribes. He has grown somewhat of a cult following in the area among lovers of nature with some coming from abroad to try to find him he gennereally stays away from them finding them distatful. He also attracts animals to from outside the state as well making migration to the areas he has influence under. However it is likely he will be forced to defend there area of influence again as forces look northwards eagerly for the natural resources of the area. It is believed his residence in somewhere deep within the boundary waters a house made of trees with animals abundant around it. He is at odds with the farm labor party due to there pro mining postion due to the very large amount of influence mining group has within the party

He has gained the monkier of the wolf due to the wolf pack that follows him around alongside other animals.

Name: The Hollywood Angel
Pronouns: They/He
Age: 39
Starting Location: Los Angeles
Powers: Technopathy - The Hollywood Angel generates a psychic energy that they use to interface directly with technology. Anything with a current running through it is vulnerable to The Hollywood Angel, and even if it's currently turned 'off', or is out of energy, the Hollywood Angel can briefly substitute his own raw 'psychic energy' to power it for a limited time. This power is potent, and often requires 'focusing' through the TV-screen helmet the Hollywood Angel always wears. Often flicking through channels or adjusting the antenna. The physical effect this has is largely placebic, but when it comes to psychic powers, that line can truly blur.
Faction: Nemesis
Bio: Byron Bannon was once just a cinephilic special effects technician when they suddenly became Empowered. Byron at first just considered it a cute trick. A way to read texts while his phone was across the room or channel surf with a thought. He used it once or twice at his job to make life easier, but largely left it alone. But then came the Year of the Supervillains, and the City of Angels burned. He wanted to help, keep misinformation at bay, warn people of attacks, fight back against cyber terrorists taking advantage of the chaos. Byron connected himself directly to the internet…. And they were totally torn apart by it.

The Hollywood Angel was what remained of Byron's psyche when the mental smoke cleared. An erratic and indiscriminate lover of media and cinematography. The love broadened to include any form of digital media. If it was on a screen, it held the Hollywood Angel's interest, to a downright religious extent. Swearing themself as the "sacred guardian of cinema", the Hollywood Angel left to use their powers, more powerful and unrestrained than ever, to defend the Hollywood film lots and studios that were at risk.

The Hollywood Angel shacked up in these studios and built them up into a network of safehouses and forts. Using his powers to get the better of Superinits and robbing them of their juiced up technology. If it wasn't for the Hollywood Angel's sole fixation on Hollywood, he likely could have expanded. But they didn't, and when the Council of Nine formed, the Hollywood Angel bent the knee in exchange for sovereignty over Hollywood. The former supervillain they worked for was ultimately deposed by Nemesis, but the Hollywood Angel doesn't hold any grudges.

In fact, he's practically ecstatic at the increased responsibilities that have been entrusted to them. The Hollywood Angel now stands as the ringleader of a media circus spanning Southern California, and with the resources of the old America's largest media empires, has even hijacked other signals and broadcasted the propaganda of Nemesis nationwide. Erratic, dramatic, and with a downright religious zeal for the 'sanctity of screens', the Hollywood Angel has become the chief propagandist of the Nemesis state, praising their overlord while making up for the charisma she lacks by puffing her image up.

Most media being produced within Socal now is being done by Archangel Studios, an unprecedented media juggernaut formed out of everything that could be ransacked from their predecessors, with Hollywood itself turned into one massive filmset. Films and other media produced by the studios tend to glorify the Nemesis state while denigrating it's opponents. When not making movies, the Hollywood Angel stars in weekly airings of '70 Minutes In Heaven', a talk show that also informs the populace and the world at large of how well Nemesis is leading southern california, as well as a slanted view on recent events. And finally, there's 'The Adventures of Angel Holly', an animated edutainment show that teaches kids the values of sharing, respecting authority, kindness, fighting for what they believe in, and how to be good little cherubs that keep their eyes and ears open.

Name: James Ranger/Ranger
Pronouns: he/him
Age: 40
Starting Location: The area formerly known as Kings Canyon National Park
Powers: Plant manipulation, specifically the sequoioideae subfamily and nothing else, although he is able to do a lot with them. For the most part, he uses his powers to transform their cones into extremely large, juicy and nutritious fruits. He produces enough to feed around a hundred adults per day, although this requires roughly three to four hours of effort.
Faction: Nemesis
Bio: A college dropout, Ranger lived in his parents' basement until he realized that he had superpowers and promptly decided to go on an epic voyage of self-discovery in Kings Canyon National Park. He hung out there for a while, meditated a lot, and decided that his true passion was chilling out in the middle of nowhere. His parents were killed in a freak super attack in 2018, at which point he retreated into KCNP, built a cottage, and refused to leave.
Living on your own for so long changes a person. Isolated and grieving, he returned to the creepypastas of his childhood and took to creeping on people whom he viewed as encroaching on "his" woods. He donned the suit that he'd worn to his parents' funeral, wreathed his face in breathable white fabric, and took his anger out on innocent campers, though he mostly limited himself to driving them out. It wasn't until Nemesis made contact with him that he reconnected with the wider world and offered her his allegiance in exchange for protection.
He's rebranded since then, but people still insist on calling him "that guy who thought he was Slenderman". Still, things could be worse. The forest is home to a small but tight-knit community of campers and survivalists who've slowly trickled away from the Californian population centers, but none of them are actual subversives, are they? Ranger doesn't think so, but he's not really one for due diligence.

OR

Name:
Isabelle Moore/Spark
Pronouns: she/her
Age: 36 going on 37
Starting Location: Los Angeles
Powers: Electricity generation, absorption and manipulation; generates the equivalent of five or six lightning bolts per day, which is enough to unburden the local city grid significantly
Faction: Nemesis
Bio: Born Isabelle Kim to a fairly well-to-do family and married her high school sweetheart instead of going to college. Had two kids and embraced the mom aesthetic but her husband got mulched in the resulting chaos that emerged in the wake of the battle of DC. Briefly held sway over her own little corner of LA and knuckled under as warlord after warlord swept by. When Nemesis started consolidating power, she took a chance on her; it paid off. Currently focused on child-rearing.

Name: Arthur Schmidt/Swarm
Pronouns: he/him
Age: 51
Starting Location: Wyoming
Powers: Controls a swarm of insectoid creatures which emerge from inside his body. The insectoids exit through his mouth, consume foodstuffs, and re-enter his body through his mouth. (This is the only way that he can eat.) They have been reproducing for an exceedingly long time, to the point that the entire swarm is almost definitely many times heavier and more voluminous than Arthur himself. Each insectoid spits corrosive venom and can tank a .22 point-blank but nothing stronger. Arthur does not have precise control over the swarm but it does grant him increased spatial awareness and somewhat heightened senses.
Faction: Loyalists
Bio: Another petty criminal who lay low until the Year of the Supervillain. Very much a raider whose main weapon is his absolutely massive swarm, which descends on a field, picks it clean, and leaves before the authorities finish mustering a response. Except now he's joined "the authorities", so he just takes what he wants in line with prevailing requisition-related legislation. May be a conniving lieutenant or the Governor himself.

"Cunning, Strength, Agony these are the three roots of victory and I shall master them all"
Name: Jonathan N. Sombra
Pronouns: He/Him
Age: 43
Starting Location: Houston, Texas
Faction: Independent
Powers:
He starts with a moderate healing factor enough to recover from wounds decently quickly and ensure he is not burdened while in the middle of a fight as well as a decent brick package. In addition as his wounds scar over he will grow slightly more resistant to what harmed him.

Over time with fighting, both will increase until he can heal nearly instantly and the second strike will glance off his skin, he will also slowly gain more esoteric abilities related to fighting and strife such as causing pain to his foes, being able to summon a blade to his side, or the wounds he causes slowly worsening.

Currently, the only esoteric ability he has is a sense of conflict and fighting that allows him to wander his way toward large sources of such things.

All of his abilities are linked to strife and he weakens when not struggling against something whether that be another person or simply nature, if he is content his abilities will fade away until he is left with almost nothing with them returning with the strife
Bio:
Growing up Jonathan spent many years traveling with his parents seeing the world, however, his mother slowly succumbed to cancer and despite her struggles died leaving his father an only parent. His father despite trying his best had a temper resulting in Jonathan fleeing his home and traveling across the U.S as a young man just barely out of his teens

It was these years that formed his core set of beliefs, struggle was good, to struggle was to survive and stagnation is death. He also ended up doing a variety of odd jobs from delivering drugs to acting as an enforcer but when things got too stable and things he could temper himself against dried up he moved on to the next place.

Nonetheless, as the world descended into madness he found himself drawn to these conflicts like a moth to a flame offering his services where the fighting grew thick as he hopped from place to place always seeking a new fight or battle to improve himself in.

SATURN
"We are superheroes, you motherfucker. As long as we breathe, we are not beaten."
-Saturn to Minuteman, three seconds before tanking the hardest punch of her life

Civ Name: Sarah Stelle
Nickname: Cosmos's Sidekick
Age: 20 at the time of the Empowerment. (Literally, it was her birthday)
Pronouns: She/Her
Faction: Loyalist
Starting Location: At Captain Cosmos's side.
Politics: Saturn is somewhat vaguely to the left. Poverty and social inequality are bad, universal education and healthcare are good, and discrimination of any kind is also bad. She has never really read any "theory" though and nor does she intend to: she doesn't need to be a nerd to help others.

Powers:
Saturn's power allows her to imbue mass on any non-living object her body touches, including herself. Objects touched by Saturn become heavier and denser according to the amount of imbued mass and proportionally to its size, but there is no alteration in shape or form up until a certain point. Past it, the object crumbles under its weight.

When she imbues mass on herself, Saturn becomes immensely durable and receives a sizeable boost in her strength: Captain Cosmos compared her punches to "being hit by a freight train" once.

Her main weaknesses are her speed (which is not any different from a regular human) and "range". Any object further than 10 meters of distance from her body will regain its original mass.

Equipment:
The Rings of Saturn is a set of three Supertech black spheres (stolen from a supervillain early on in her hero career) that orbit the heroine, controlled by her will. Each of them is super durable and contains a single of her hair strands inside, allowing Saturn to imbue them with mass no matter how far away from her they are.

She uses the Rings as both long-ranged projectiles and to redirect attacks, since they can emit a gravitational field of their own if she imbues them with enough mass. However, she can only control Rings up to 50 meters of distance without losing precision.

Biography:

Pre-empowerment Saturn was somewhat deeply unremarkable. She had average looks, and average grades, and lived in an average-income very average house in Manhattan. The only thing truly distinguishable about her was that she worked as a volunteer; she always liked helping people.

While a ton of capes look grimly to the years post-Empowerment as the prelude to disaster, Saturn smiles fondly at the best years of her life. Her powers gave her the chance to unite pleasure and duty into one: not only she was helping people but she was doing it in a way that was fun and exciting. She loved her powers, she loved being strong and she loved using them to help others.

Until King Steel happened. Until Minuteman happened.

She was there in DC with her buddies, Starman and Captain Cosmos. Saturn was wounded by one of Minuteman's militia–the first time since she got her powers. Even today she is not sure if that bullet was made with superint or if the shooter had some kinda of power that negated part of her durability.

It was the first she bled. It was the first time she killed: she took the motherfucker's head off with a single punch.

The bullet hurt but it was nothing compared to Minuteman. Saturn was durable but she could feel her bones cracking every time the bastard landed a blow. Saturn was simply too slow to land her attacks. At the end of the day, she was nothing more than a damage sponge. Cosmo said that she and all the other capes bought them valuable time, but she is not so sure.

After DC, with all her bones broken, bleeding, and defeated, she did what she could and chose to follow the Captain to Cheyenne. Nowadays Saturn is one of the few superheroes who still work out as a superhero–stopping bank robberies, saving cats from trees, sponsoring soup kitchens, and all that jazz.

While she technically isn't a government employee like most loyalist supers, Saturn still works under the Government from time to time. Despite everything, she still believes in the idea of America. She still believes they can beat back the Warlords and restore everything to how it used to be. And more important than all, she still believes in Captain Cosmos.

Turn 2 is up. Please submit your orders by Friday, December 22nd.

I am also accepting applications for new characters! As before there are a limited number of slots.

Name: Changeling.
Pronouns: She/her.
Age: Age and date of birth unknown. Investigations by herself and her followers have led her to suspect she is between the ages of 38 and 42.
Starting Location: Near Sante Fe, New Mexico. Her main base of operations has relocated to the greater Sante Fe area in the aftermath of Atlas' collapse, but she has loyal followers throughout the greater southwest. Through telepathy, she maintains mental links to a small number of well-placed individuals throughout the country.
Powers: Illusions, shapeshifting, telepathy, telekinesis.
  • Illusions: Can create and maintain audiovisual and mental illusions within sight or touch radius of her own person; she can also induce illusions to any mental connections she has maintained.
  • Shapeshifting: Using biopsychic abilities, she can alter her body's chemistry at will to superficially change her appearance. Once a change to her appearance is made, it can remain so indefinitely until she decides to change back or shift to a new form. She can shift multiple times a day, but doing so repeatedly drains her stamina and poses health risks. She cannot shape-change beyond a typical humanoid appearance due to the risk of severe DNA damage.
  • Telepathy: Can read minds, sense emotions, and experience memories; she has the ability to absorb the memories of others at the cost of her own. Her telepathic abilities are limited to sight or touch distance. However, once she establishes a connection, it may be maintained over any distance. She can voluntarily sever these connections at any time. The more connections she maintains, the greater risk to her sanity and memory.
  • Telekinesis: Can move and throw objects with her mind and use her body's energy as a minor power source. She possesses no superhuman strength and can only telekinetically lift objects of a normal size for a standard human being (i.e. no lifting cars with her brain). She can produce up to ~500 watts of energy safely. The primary use for her energy psionics is as a light source, to open doors and locks, and to power household appliances and computers.
Faction: Independent.
Bio: Changeling remembers less of her own life every day. It's dying, chunk by chunk, day by day, traded for memories not her own. She needs those memories to survive, to climb the ladder of the new world, and above all, to win. All she maintains of herself is what she can record. She employs secretaries, typists, and librarians of the old world as scribes in all but name. In her compound, a study contains a small library of handwritten memory-books and autobiographical audio diaries. The older she gets, the worse she gets at discerning her own memories from the mental slush, the collected, psychic detritus of sixteen years of mind-reading.

Before the Empowerment, Changeling was something else, someone as alien to her as the New Mexico desert. What she knows, she learned from her followers. By 2030, Changeling's secretaries and scribes have narrowed down her past to 7 states, 45 colleges, and over 250 high schools in 172 towns. They collect old world artifacts: local history books, hometown newspapers, high-school yearbooks, and college honor rolls. She remembers being young and alone, looking for a way out. Shape-shifting gave it to her. For a long time, it was the world's coolest party trick for the world's longest road trip.

Six years. A shape of her crawled out of the memories of the road, but it was unfamiliar, and never entirely her own. Wherever she came from, she went west, and never came back.

Changeling emerged from that psychic fugue state in 2020, the Year of the Supervillain. It brought her journey across the country to a bitter end, and carved a path of destruction through the lives of her accumulated followers. Ruined cities, broken lives, dead or missing loved ones. She read their minds, touched their emotions, played back their memories as though they were her own. In her travels, she survived by stealing – goods, faces, money, memories. The psychic trades became her weapon of choice in the wars that followed D.C. From a small group of outcasts in the Great Plains, she fought her way across the west, liberating towns, rescuing the oppressed, decimating fascist militias, and bringing bandits under her command. Her warpath brought her to California's doorstep, on the eve of Nemesis's rise to power.

Games of conquest and loyalty are easy when you can be inside somebody's head. Changeling got into their hearts and minds, nudging from within, gaining allies and destroying enemies through mind-reading, shape-changing, subterfuge, and sabotage. She learned ruthless strategy in the west. Somewhere along the way, quietly and suddenly, she decided to forget. She wrote everything down and recorded herself on old tape-decks. Her memories went away. And as her life story disappeared, she found she had more than enough room in her head for everyone else's.

She is more an institution than a true person. Only her most trusted lieutenants and advisors know the real person. Changeling hides in the rank and file of the organization she has built, posing as low-level officials or front-line soldiers when she can, avoiding direct contact and never revealing her true face. Hunting her past became the white whale of somebody the whole world forgot. Rationally, officially, it is a defensive strategy. Protection from unknown unknowns. But some part of her wants and fears it.

Changeling may not be the world's best telepath or shapechanger - but she may be the most dedicated. Who else would destroy themselves for psychic efficiency? Her history ended, sometime between 2014 and 2020. So did the old world. It's a new age now. Whoever changeling was before, it doesn't really matter. She's a vessel for something bigger.

The only way is forward.
