Opening Post

TPK

Hello, friend.
The world's not in great shape. Monsters roam the twenty-six cities' streets, preying on humans for sport and food. The economy is on a downward turn and public unrest is on the rise. Pressure is building, and something has to give.

You used to be one of the helpless people, waiting on someone else to save you, but a month ago something changed, a monster attacked you. It rampaged through four floors of the business you worked at, and you were laid off during rebuilding.

That's why you're standing in a sterile white office building, wearing a mask.

You're an up and coming hero, joining the year-old Hero Association with barely a costume to your name, getting your heroic skills tested.

Heroic skills are what you actually use to be a hero. Once you finish registering the Hero Association will use the results of your examination to compile an estimation of your strength. Though there are many individual paths to strength, the two you've heard about are Extra Sensory Perception and Body (ESP and BDY).

The Hero Association has strict membership requirements that you can barely pass, even after four gruelling weeks of preparation, so you doubt that you'll be anything higher than a C-Class hero to start with.

Heroic Skill- You begin your career with some superhuman capability with your body OR your mind. If you choose not to start with ESP, you will have the opportunity to gain it later.
[] BDY
-[] Running
-[] Striking
-[] Agility
[] ESP
-[] Precognition
-[] Telekinesis
-[] Retrocognition

Background- Where did you begin to gain your heroic skill?
[] High School. In your structured teenage years you searched for a way to stand out, and eventually found a group of like-minded teenagers who shared your abilities, though you've fallen out of touch with most.
[] Work. Your employer vanished shortly after firing you and an investigation revealed that the entire company was a front for human experimentation on its employees. Your coworkers showed no changes.
[] Home. For a decade you've meditated, seeking inner and outer power, and finally you've found it! Nobody knew what you were trying to do, though, because you devoted too much time to finding the right way to meditate.

Voting will be by plan except where noted otherwise. This means that the winning vote will be the combination of Heroic Skill and Background that has the highest number of votes. Voting will also be at will. You vote at will, and I can veto a vote at will.

Keywords: Precognition, Hot, Suave, Hair
History: You developed ESP in high school, where you joined the Society for the Supernatural alongside other espers. Now you fight crime because humanity makes so many nice things that you enjoy.

Complications are ongoing wrinkles that stop your life from being a monotony of stopping muggers, signing autographs, and wandering around major metropolitan areas in a costume.
  • Rival. Your time in the Society of the Supernatural did not go entirely smoothly. You and Psykos are an item now.
  • Obvious. Your precognition manifests a glowing third eye on your forehead that cannot be covered.
BDY Skills
  • Running
    • Worthless (50/100)
  • Striking
    • Worthless (0/100)
  • Agility

    • Mind Punch: You punch a target inside ten feet, but use your mind to do it. Alternately unsteadily lift something less than 100kg.
    • Instability: You take advantage of the inherent instability in your TK fields, and try to tear a target into pieces with different vectors of force.
  • Retrocognition
    • Incompetent (0/200)
    • Fourth Eye: You can open a fourth eye which does not see, but gives a vague direction of where other people are looking at you from instead.

Appendices
Mysterious Beings (or monsters) are sentient creatures inimical to mankind in general, people in specific, or both. They have no known origin but have become far more frequent in the past thirteen years. They come in various varieties and their at-odds relationship with humanity is the sole unifying feature.

Mysterious Beings can be natural creatures, humans transformed by compulsive behavior, extraterrestrials, artificial creations, and certain non-sentient animals. Unthinking animals are an exception to the rule that a Mysterious Being must be sentient.

They are ranked along the following threat levels. The threat levels are based on what a given Mysterious Being can do 'in one go' without heroic intervention. This distinction means that while a Dragon level threat could certainly kill all of humanity eventually, it cannot do so at once.

Wolf A being/group that might pose a threat
Tiger A threat to many people's lives
Demon A threat to a whole city or its facilities
Dragon A threat to multiple cities
God A threat endangering all of humanity

"Third Eye" Psykos
Age: 21

Keywords: Obsessive, Arrogant, Powerful, Misanthrope, Fragile
History: Once the Vice-President of the Society for the Supernatural, Psykos had her powers brutally sealed by Fubuki after a traumatic vision of the future. Now her powers are rapidly returning.

BDY
  • Running (worthless)
  • Striking (worthless)
  • Agility (worthless)
ESP
  • Precognition (worthless)
  • Telekinesis (competent)
    • Raw Might: Psykos' powerful mind levitates applies a single vector of force to all or part of an object that she can see.
  • Telepathy (competent)
    • Influence: Psykos reaches into the mind of the unwary. At this level she can only exaggerate thoughts and emotions on unwary or open-minded targets.

We gain super agility, the peak of physical achievement and more. By day we're an awesome dancer, gymnest, athlete, or whatever. And when trouble strikes we can outspeed our enemies and dodge their attacks.

Granted, precognition would be pretty useful... but we can always get that later. For now, we have to be in top physical shape so we can actually contribute to the fight and end the threat instead of merely knowing ahead of time when it will strike. Or having our power tell us that the atomic dinosaur is going to blow up the building we're in and it's too bad we're too out of shape to flee the blast radius.

Because a dude punching the air in his living room for a decade seems like a very OPM way to gain powers.

Monado boys.

precognition for money, the stock market are ours!

Predictions:

on June 5th, stock in Medi-Corp will plummet due to B-City being completely destroyed.
on June 10th, stock in Puppy and Fireworks Inc will plummet due to an unstoppable swarm of killer fleas with the zombie virus rampaging across D-City, W-City, Y-City, F-City, and A-City.
on June 11th, stock in Shotguns-n-Hacksaws will rise slightly.
on June 20th, stock in Precog Investments will drop due to an attack by the We Hate Brainacs Gang.
on June 23rd, stock in all industries will be negatively affected by a giant radioactive meteor made of kryptonite striking the western seaboard and starting a new green-glowing ice age.
on June 25th, stock in all industries will be negatively affected by an outbreak of radioactive spiders who's venom gives people the proportionate strength, speed, and radioactivity of a radioactive spider. Also it turns them into radioactive spiders who can give birth to more radioactive spiders. Including males. Especially the males.
on June 27th, Radioactive Spiders Incorporated will be founded and stock prices will increase steadily. A safe investment.

Yeah. Bandwagoning is not fun.

I've always liked Telekinesis. Its an awesome, very versatile power. Very useful in your day to day life, too. It can help you get all the stuff you need at a Sale so certain Baldies can't take it first. Also, we get a bunch of former friends that we could possibly assemble into a superteam if things work out, which is cool.

Also, never ever take precog in a quest. The shitstorm in Age of Strife has convinced me that powerful future-sight effects are incredibly hard to model as a GM and tend to lead to players always taking the safe option.

I want to punch people. No friends, no tools, final destination.
