The DigiWorld Has No Therapists, Which Explains A Lot
You reach over, and clear away a bit more rubble with your hands. "While I was out with Elecmon," You start, quietly, "We were looking around the forest, and... trying not to be seen by anyone, because we don't know if Puppetmon knows we're here or not, and..." Is risk management something an ordinary Rookie would understand, you wonder? Or are you just saying words that Impmon will never get?

Impmon crosses his arms and sits down on a misplaced rock, eyes gleaming up at you even in the limited light. "So what happened next?"

"There were... two Digimon out in the forest, that we could tell. Mushrooms."

"Mushroomon? What were they doing here?" And of course a Digimon would know the names of other types of Digimon. Not that you couldn't have made a very good guess just by looking at them.

"I dunno. Looking for something for Puppetmon, I think." They'd mentioned him, hadn't they? "Well... I think he sent them to find mushrooms, maybe? It didn't seem like they were looking for us."

"He... sent Mushroomon to find mushrooms." You nod, and Impmon sighs. "I really shouldn't be surprised... things didn't go well, then?"

"They just... found us. And I couldn't think of anything to do but fight, so... they're gone now." More permanently than anyone you've fought against before.

"Huh. Good riddance, then."

You suppose it was a bit too much to ask that he'd really understand. You don't really get what you're thinking, just that all of this feels wrong in some way or another.

Then again, you're not sure anything's really felt right since the Datamon incident. Or even sooner.

Everything started spiraling out of control once your friends got their Digivices, and it's all that you can do in order to keep up.

"Yeah..." You reach over and pull out another stone, watching as dirt spills from the wound in the rocks the same way that blood or data would from a living being. "I guess..."

There's movement nearby, and it doesn't take much looking to see Chibimon. "What're you doing?" He asks, tilting his head to the side. "You talking about something?"

[ ] You're just trying to make sure he gets fed.

[ ] It's grown up stuff- he wouldn't understand.

[ ] Nothing that's a good reason for him being someplace where heavy rocks are being moved around.

[X] Nothing that's a good reason for him being someplace where heavy rocks are being moved around.

Option 2 feels really condenscending while Option 1 feels like we're telling him, "Look at all this work we're doing for your sake." I like Option 3 best because Sora is showing concern for his safety.

[X] Nothing that's a good reason for him being someplace where heavy rocks are being moved around.

Clear
"Well," You say. "It's not anything that you should be curious enough about to poke around here for. There's a lot of heavy stuff being moved here, and if something were to fall on you..." Squish. No more Chibimon.

The little Digimon looks up, blinks, and takes a few steps back. "I still wanna know!" He complains, even despite the new addition of his sense of self-preservation.

"Honestly, we're mostly just moving things," Impmon says, and you find yourself feeling sort of relieved at that. "No need to make a huge fuss about it."

"But it's interesting!"

Is this just a thing with almost every Digimon below Champion level? It wouldn't overly surprise you, but... "Chibimon, if you're bored, maybe you could ask Rikuto to tell you a story," You suggest. "He's gone on a lot more adventures than I have." Probably. If only by virtue of having spent more time in the Digital World overall.

"...All right." The little Digimon leaves, looking more than a little disappointed. You feel sorry for him, not having anything to do in this dark space, but... what other option is there? Against the Dark Masters... he'd be helpless.

Against anything, he'd be helpless.

For everyone here but Biyomon, that seems to be the default state. Even for her, since being Biyomon is her default state. She can just change shape to fight. Even if all the fighting has started to wear you down.

But you don't need to think to move rocks. So that's what you'll do.

Eventually, there's enough space cleared away inside for mushroom spores to grow, and the air is damp enough that things should work out, according to Elecmon's decently-optimistic predictions.

It's nice to think that, now that they have a more steady source of food underground, they won't come to the surface as often. Maybe it'll even make it harder for the Dark Masters to find them.

Maybe.

You aren't wholly convinced about that.

Still, that's the food situation... sort of sorted out? There's something. Mushrooms don't have to be the priority anymore.

Thank goodness for that.

[ ] But you still want to make the food situation more secure.
-[ ] Transplanting berry bushes with thorns will be painful, but it'll work for both safety and food! You can't lose!
-[ ] It's probably a bad idea to raid Puppetmon's place for meat starters... but that's not going to stop you from trying.

[ ] You'd like to do something more for proper physical security, just to be safe.

[ ] ...You've been here long enough. You think it's time you went on your way.

On one hand, it would probably be a good idea to increase the security. On the other hand, I'm not sure what we're going to do after leaving, and apparently Puppetmon's castle is a day away. If we're going to fight Puppetmon after this, wouldn't it be pointless to increase their ability to stay hidden for longer? Though I guess there's no guarantee we'll win...

[X] You'd like to do something more for proper physical security, just to be safe.

I'll change my vote to food & security to break the tie.

...Okay, yeah, if this quest dies it'll probably be as much due to me as anyone else.

Still. More food. Probably a good idea, if only so nobody has to eat just mushrooms all the time.

Berries
There's plenty of berry bushes growing in the forest. You know this, because berries are easier to identify than mushrooms, and most of the berries you know of are safe to eat, even if they don't quite coincide with the species available in the Analog World.

After all, nothing here is really like what happens in the Analog World- there's always some sort of twist to it. Small things, like a change of color, or large ones, like how most of the wildlife can talk. The only edible things that were ever alive are the fish, and half of those are sapient.

Sometimes, you wonder what a scientist would think if they were to stumble across this world. Haruka doesn't count.

But. If you could acquire berry bushes, particularly those with thorns, and plant them around the entrance to where Elecmon and the babies are hiding... not only does it work as a food source, but it can double as a deterrent for anyone who's just casually sniffing around the place. Probably. So long as they aren't specifically looking for anyone, you're pretty sure it'll work out.

And if it doesn't... well. Odds are you'll be long gone by then. You'll likely never hear about it, unless Puppetmon's the type to gloat.

...So you'll probably be hearing about it. Okay, then.

That makes keeping the area safe even more important.

The problem with trying to transport something as large as an actual bush is that you need something to dig with. You weren't entirely expecting Elecmon's claws to be good enough to do the trick, but it is a problem, since you don't exactly have easy access to a shovel.

Puppetmon probably has a shovel, even if he's got no interest in gardening, but that wouldn't be very easy for you to get your hands on at all. You could probably do something with rocks, but then you'd need to track down the right kind of rocks, and that might take even longer than planning to sneak into Puppetmon's place, or assault it, or whatever you'd end up deciding on.

Technically speaking, Machinedramon's territory is probably within a day's flight, but that's a long way to go for a shovel, and also you might run into Machinedramon. If you don't, he'll still probably tell Puppetmon that you're hiding out in his territory.

Piedmon's territory is too far away from that, and also completely out of the question, because Piedmon. MetalSeadramon's is out not because of distance, but because you don't believe you'll find any good shovels underwater, and the ones you'd be likely to find on a beach would just be children's toys.

...Then again, you suppose that toys are better than nothing.

[ ] It's time to mess about with rocks for a month or so.

[ ] It's time to attempt to steal from Puppetmon. In no way can this possibly go wrong.

[ ] It's time to attempt to steal from MetalSeadramon. Somehow, you think you've decided on the worst idea possible.

[ ] It's time to attempt to steal from Machinedramon. If you're lucky, he won't even be bothered by it.

If we're going towards a Dark Master, then we should just fight them and get it over with. I guess we try to steal from Puppetmon (and presumably get caught so that we have to fight him)?

Okay, time to break into a Dark Master's house!

If you're wondering where the other DigiDestined are... they're also dealing with a Dark Master at the moment. Yes, I'm aware that this isn't particularly helpful.

Taking the Offensive
It takes a long time for you to admit it. You still don't want to admit it. But eventually, you have to concede defeat and admit that the best way for you to acquire a shovel would be to steal one from one of the Dark Masters.

Once you've forced yourself to admit that, figuring out which one to rob is simple- Puppetmon's just a day away.

"You're not going alone," Rikuto states. You've been arguing about this all day. It's just not safe for him to come with you. He doesn't even have a Digimon! "Partner or no partner, I know how Puppetmon works. I'll be just as safe as anyone else in that mansion, trust me."

You aren't sure that's saying much. "Is anyone really safe in that mansion?"

"They aren't all in the same amount of danger." As if that makes anything better. "The most dangerous things you can be, around Puppetmon, are boring and unwilling to stroke his ego. I'd probably last a while about him just sitting around and reminiscing- he hasn't had anyone to brag to about the fall of Chiptown in a while, I'd bet."

You'd assume so. Particularly when you don't even know the name of any of the places the Dark Masters destroyed back then, let alone which one 'Chiptown' was. From context, you'll assume that it was a pretty big deal.

Your eyes narrow. "...You're going to follow me even if I say no, aren't you?"

"It's not like I need your permission to do anything," He confirms.

You suppose it's probably for the best that he stay where you can see him. Otherwise... you don't want to think about the kind of trouble he could get into.

"...Fine. We'll leave tomorrow."

You don't face any major resistance as you approach Puppetmon's mansion. It's hard to tell if that's because he doesn't know you're here, or if he just finds you particularly entertaining. If you encounter him directly, you may ask him. Something you could do before you die.

You don't do much to entertain the thought of surviving an encounter with Puppetmon. It just seems too unrealistic.

"Bit for your thoughts?" Biyomon asks as she flutters besides you.

"I- I'm not sure this is a good idea," You admit. "I always thought that, when we fought the Dark Masters, Tai and Matt and everyone would also be here." But you still don't know where they are. Occasionally, you take a look at your Digivice, but the only dot in sight is Rikuto's.

At this point, you're hoping it's just because they landed on a different part of Spiral Mountain. You aren't sure File City's even still there, let alone that your friends remained up in the sky with it. It'd be nice if it was, but... you don't think you're that lucky.

She nods along. "Where do you think they are?"

"Probably picking fights with something they shouldn't." Possibly even one of the Dark Masters. Tai's definitely foolhardy enough. "...I mean, that's what we're doing."

You can't see the mansion yet, but you think you're getting pretty close. Maybe. You'd be there faster if you used Birdramon for it, but that basically defeats the purpose of a stealth mission. Everyone would end up seeing your arrival.

It'd be so much easier to figure out where you were if you could just see anything through all these trees. It's like they're growing as close together as possible, just to spite you.

"So what's the plan for when we get there?" Rikuto asks. Thinking about it, you probably should have discussed that before you left.

[ ] You'll just find a way to sneak in, find what you need, and sneak out without anyone ever knowing you were there.

[ ] You'll try and convince the minions to help you. It's not like they have a lot of choice in being here- you could make a friend!

[ ] You can set something on fire as a distraction, and then get in through the other side of the house, probably. You'd just have to be very careful about it.
