Bunraku (Samurai Mecha Quest)

[X]Recommend that Silver Crane be kept under the most discreet watch, and that preparation to destroy the bandits be made quickly. Their very story makes them dangerous to the public order.

More politics?

Nay.

MOAR BLOOD!

We might not be able to get any information out of our captive samurai but we might be able to get her guards to talk under torture, if so they could tell us more about the village, in particular where it is.

'Differences'.

Don't see why not. Going to be dangerous as hell, but it is also the fastest way to the Hidden Village... and potentially may grant us options of regulating the conflict. Lord of Summer might not be able to talk to these people, but we could.

Of course, then we run into a problem that we can't promise them anything.

This saves our lord's dignity and pride at personal risk at least.

Open negotiation would create problems as the cultural environment would give them more legitimacy than we would like. At the moment at least.

War strikes me as a fairly vainglorious strategy, quite likely to bog Summer down if it doesn't simply work outright. There's a lot of face to lose there, and a lot of resource to lose there. It's not an option to rely on. (In essence, I see it as the equivalent of charging into Afghanistan. You might win quickly, but all things considered it's also a pretty good place to take your empire if you want to lose it, especially if the people there have become attached enough to their new ideas that they decide not to simply roll over and capitulate when we defeat their leaders.)

Visiting the village in person however, while it might be taken as self serving, isn't a major threat to Summer, just to us personally. Our lord risks losing a simple servant, barely more than a ronin, for a chance to survey the situation and accrue a variety of options, both diplomatic and military alike.

No need to start attacking with no idea of what we face. We should take this chance to gather info of this hidden village.

Now I'm not saying we have the chance to rebel here, nor do I particularly think I would given the chance, but we COULD find out where the hidden village is this way, and tell our Lord that way.

Since we know that, and they know that, it's unlikely that they will let us leave without some kind of ensurance.

Which may be as simple as our word, but still.

Not entirely true either, we are a puppeteer, which makes us one of the eleven ten key assets Summer has. Without us, there is no one to pilot Harvest, and they do not train puppeteers in a week.

It's okay, Senpai. I know how hard it is designing original settings.

We are not a 'simple servant'. Even if we were merely ronin, we'd still be a samurai. And we are a puppeteer. And one of the last living descedants of the Imperial bloodline.

[X] Recommend that we negotiate with Silver Crane.

Yes, this Pauper Prince is but a commoner, but before the first of the Emperors was Emperor, was he not also common born?

If the Heavenly Dragons could choose a man to be Emperor, why can't one of their number acknowledge a peasant as being worthy to join the ranks of lords?

The Pauper Prince is not the first of these bandit lords. He will not be the last. As long as these lands continue to be ravaged by war, there will be no way to fully eradicate this disease.

And if he is competent, he should stabilise the area, meaning we don't have to worry about raids from the north. Wipe them out and more bandits will take their place in no time at all.
