Buffy the Vampire Slayer Take Two

Hopefully we can do something useful as the leader of another group.

[X]Don't fight Buffy, step to take your place in the other pack

Playing Xander seems to be about facing a series of bad choices, huh? :D

I'm not sure what to go for here. I never actually watched the show, and the main thing I remember from fanfiction about the kid-hyena pack is that they ate someone. On one hand, if Xander joins the other pack, hopefully he'll lead Buffy and Willow to the other kids. On the other hand, if Xander challenges Buffy for leadership, that should clue them in really quickly that something is wrong. That's not a guarantee though.

[X]Challenge Buffy for right to lead

Stick to our chosen pack, even if it will be difficult / impossible to win.

Xander's Pack
It is difficult. You can feel the tugs telling you to run with those you know will accept you with ease. Your position is open, and they are content to wait for you to fill your position. Your other pack, your older one, is comprised of Buffy and Willow. It is hard to see what you saw in Willow before. Her whinging submission is annoying. It is Yours though, and you value it strongly enough that you push through what draws you to the others. You will challenge Buffy instead.

You start small, taking food from her, moving into her space, challenging her to push back on you. She seems mostly bewildered by your challenges, watching as you act. You're hungry, and the normal food isn't enough. The other pack is tugging at you, calling you to look after them. Instead you push into Buffy and tell her that you're taking charge. She's confused, and it gives you the upper hand as you lunge at her.

The next thing you know you're waking up in a cage in the library and Giles, Buffy, and Willow are all looking at you asking each other what happened. You frown. It aches to have been put back down so hard. You had thought your new strength would have been enough to take over Buffy's place as the leader. And now you're here. Willow keeps asking what happened, but you only watch Buffy and Giles, both who seem unsettled by your actions.

Buffy finally comes up and asks you why you attacked her. You tell her you wanted to lead. That you knew you couldn't, not while Buffy was there, and you weren't willing to give them up and go to the others. That really gets their attention, asking about the other pack. You still know you could return to them. It would be easy to fall silent and reach through your bond to the others, forsake this pack that doesn't fit the way it had before.

Will Roll
DC: 12
Roll: 4 (+4)

You shake your head and fall back into the cage. The group keeps talking, and you reach to the others. They know where you are. They're coming for you. You won't turn them over to Buffy and the others, even if you've submitted to Buffy. You are loyal to your pack, but you cannot turn against the others even when they ask. All you can do is tell them to be prepared and wait.

When the others do arrive, Mentor and Buffy fight well but Willow is quick to retreat and look for shelter. You feel torn watching the two sides fight each other, even with Buffy's victory coming out on top. You pace back and forth in the cage as the group speaks and makes plans. When they toss the others in the cage with you you're feeling even more irritated, especially with Mentor and Omega being the primary guards. You have to place yourself against the door so the others would have to go through you for anything. And you know they won't.

Leader fills her role. She tells you to come, and you follow after her, the others unhappy with the submission but willing to do so. You head back to where it started, and a man there threatens with a knife. A flash goes through you-and your mind clears. You're not whatever that was anymore. You're really hoping that Buffy and Giles will be up to explaining everything that happened, since you have a very rough idea of what actually happened to you despite being there. Words had been fading from your mind at the end there.

You do get somewhat of an explanation of what happened, even if it freaks you out. You can only think you're lucky that you chose to stick with Buffy and Willow, especially when your possessed self had disliked Willow and you had felt the pull so strongly to join the others. You're going to put what could have happened out of your mind.

What you take from what happened
I think this means what Xander learned from the situation? I'll take a stab at it.

[X] The supernatural keeps getting more and more complicated every time you run into it. The self defense lessons are a good start, but they're clearly not enough. You know you're not very good at book learning, but maybe if you did a group study session with the others, more information would stick? The one thing that reassures you about this is how Buffy, Willow, and Giles came through for you. If you all continue to watch each other's backs, you can make it through this, whatever "through" counts as here.

Oh yeah, I completely slipped up and used "you" instead of Xander XD But I did mean "what does Xander take from this"

Also appreciate the focus on the group :)

What is Support
The one thing you have to be thankful for is your friends. Things would be so much worse without them there to support you. Buffy alone is amazing yes, but there's also Willow, a rock you rely on, and Giles, who actually takes the time to help you out. You ask Willow and Buffy if they'll do a study session with you to work on identifying non humans. Buffy isn't that interested, but Willow is eager for the knowledge, and you promise to bring popcorn for you all to chow on while you work on it.

[ ]Invite Amy too, the more the merrier
[ ]Leave Amy out of the study session

You picked up more this time. You don't know if it was because Willow was there, or if it was Giles taking more time on the subject since Buffy was there, or if it was just the salty buttery goodness of popcorn that carried the day, but you definitely feel like you're less likely to step headfirst into a trap. Again.

The pre fumigation party at the Bronze is fantastic. Amy is more than happy to take turns with Willow to dance with you. Buffy has less interest in the fumigation party. Probably because she doesn't get it. It is a Sunnydale tradition after all, and that means weird! You definitely wish Buffy had stuck around longer though, as she apparently got rescued by Angel from some vampires, and then he spent the night in Buffy's room. Yes you are jealous, but you also can't help but think it was risky to hide the guy there with Buffy's mom around. Angel doesn't have the excuse of going to school together with Buffy after all.

Giles assures you that the vampires who attacked Buffy won't be a problem, as they'll be reporting to the Master on their failure first. You even get a chance to train with Buffy in the same room as you, even if she is distracted. Likely by Angel, as little as you like that. You really wish the guy would stop with his whole mysterious danger guy thing, it's stupid. If he wants to help he can join everyone else who's trying to help Buffy and stop dancing around in the shadows.

And then you find out the real reason why Angel was so insistent on playing up his mystique. He's a vampire. And Buffy's in love with him. Your jealousy instantly vanishes as Jessie returns to your mind. You feel sick thinking of how Buffy's let Angel so close, how he could destroy everything. Worse, Angel's in the Watcher's diaries. He was a scourge in Europe for over a century, before eighty years ago just up and dropping entirely off the radar. Giles doesn't know why he suddenly stopped. It bugs you to think about.

What do you do about Angel and Buffy?

[ ]Do your best to convince her to slay him
[ ]Ask Giles to help slay him
[ ]Dig into what could have caused Angel to drop off the radar

I've been wanting to spend more time with Amy, and I'm glad that the study session went well. :) As for Angel, I'm not sure how good Xander is at digging stuff up, but we'll need as much information as possible to convince Buffy. Going behind Buffy's back to stake Angel would go against the friendship focus we just had, and I doubt Xander would be much help there, as new to the supernatural and self defense as he is.
