Bloody Grave: A Vampire RP. Sign up and OOC thread

At any rate if I still don't have any response as to interest or not from @Ru_ within a week-ish I'll probably just work with the assumption of Miriette wandering off on her own as per the in-character thoughts so far.

I should probably review the IC a bit to see if I can make any more obvious suggestions for what the group could do next to get this going, since I do intend to get things in motion if possible. Not sure exactly how soon I'll get around to it though.

Doing some reviewing, one option I see for going forward would be to simply have the group settle on actually raiding Matthias manor, and run into a more long term resident vampire- be it relatively noble vigilante, pure survivalist, or a bit darker of a character, the idea would be 'vampire receptive to working with these poor victims/fellow vampires who has a certain degree of eg safehouse locations to hide from the sun in and a decent amount of expertise, but not the resources to take them out of the pure survival and possibly wanting to run state'.

Depending on player perspectives, I could easily see more of an anti-hero, or someone studious about not killing just trying to get by, or perhaps someone a bit more amoral and power hungry looking for some muscle, and that's just off the top of my head.

It is a rather gaudy looking mansion, I have to admit.

Lets do it.

Hm. Yeah, that idea has some appeal. Gives us a good "hook" to start with, along with a general kick-start.

Posted and tagged all those who said they want to continue. Its not much, more of a bump post but hopefully we can get the ball rolling?

I think I'll give it another couple days before trying for a GM post, both to give general chances for player responses to both the OOC elements and the IC elements, but also so Ru_ has a bit more time to show up since it's reasonably easy to have Miriette bump back into the group later if needed but if the interest is still there it's even easier to just not have a temporary leave.

I guess ideally I'm wanting a post from @Another Amoeba either in character or out of character confirming Hugo is on board with the current plan, will probably try to jump the scene to the manor taking into account any further feedback after I've slept in like twelve hours or whenever exactly, not sure exactly when I'll get to it.

And then we shall go from there.

Anyone want to take this conversation? I think there's better 'faces' than Mat to do so.

Alternately, if you'd all prefer I do the talking, any objections if I just reveal everything to the dude? Namely, there's a large Lair underneath, its filled with Golems and shit, and lord knows how long the feeding and killing has been going on.

Uhh...In terms of the mansion's layout, I think that's up to you but as someone who's stuck in their glory days as a soldier, I'd argue its completely in character that Matthias' mansion probably had a small armory or training room of sorts where he could pretend he was the fighter he used to be.

Aside from that, I actually don't know what his mansion would have. Gold? Clothes? 😅

It's your character's backstory mansion, it can have anything reasonable you want. Armories or training rooms for reliving THE GOLD OLD DAYS, WHEN MY ORGANS WORKED is very much reasonable.

Like I can make up whatever to cover what's there and all, but you get first say on the layout if you want it.

EDIT: I'm also just gonna go ahead and call for rolls for any looting; declare here what you're searching for, as a category, and roll a d100 for how fortunate etc. Obviously this should wait til people have settled on who all is trying to loot etc but I want to try to keep things going and all.

Sorry for the delay there @Terrabrand . I imagine we probably won't base here long-term, but I kind of enjoyed having Oliver go a bit absent-minded there. I might keep having him have these moments of latching onto complex but mundane problems for a little while, to try and keep himself sane.

Gonna declare a search for protective gear. Against our peers and what sounds like real nasties in the deep woods, I doubt they'll help but some light armor could be useful in keeping up a disguise as 'armed travelers on unsafe roads'.

Also, I'm gonna say that I'm drawing a blank on what the house would contain beyond a treasury, extravagant closet and armory/training room. Just run whatever room you're searching past the GM and if they say good, then I'm good as well.

@Terrabrand if possible, I'll apply my search roll to looking for various legal and financial documents, and perhaps whatever the equivalent of a Local Newspaper is here. It's not Oliver's house but he's a man of paperwork through and through...

EDIT: Oh for fuck's sake.

I kinda figure short of veritable act of god Oliver would be able to find at least the actual deeds to the building, so that's what I went with for the low roll there. Not quite low enough for me to go 'I guess the documents were all lost', given it's inside his field of expertise and logically would be kept safe in case of natural disasters.

The armor I found is holy in nature, you say? Can we Unholy beings wear it? Just to be sure.

Well you don't exactly melt from touching a human. While holy and unholy auras are contrary, it would need to be a significantly more powerful or actively weaponized aura to be a threat to a Vampire just off the ambient energy. It would be, at worst, itchy to wear for long periods.

(with a side effect of somewhat concealing the Unholy aura within since those are sensed by the same means)

@Terrabrand I'll declare my search for smaller magical items like amulets of protection or magical rings. It seems like having a handful of concealable boons like this could be helpful in seizing the element of surprise in a fight.

Not much luck:

Given the inherent difficulties in making meaningful small magic items without being a Hunter or Necromancer, and Matthias having no particular prior connections to such, Hugo Parisant finds nothing more interesting than expensive rings and necklaces he could probably easily pawn at about any unsavory pawn shop he knows. Would need a fair amount of luck to find such a thing here.

We seem to be drawing towards a close with the scene, and the consensus currently seems to be shaking out to...

Team Near Future Plans

  • Sell Mansion To Twilight Kingdom Folks.
  • Buy Some Sort Of Clandestine Safehouse In City. (Where? Other details?)
  • Go On First Hunt, Probably Taking Advantage Of Daniel's Aid For Secrecy.
  • Training Time, likely emphasising learning or attempting to learn generically useful abilities like Daniel's sleep power. Matthias at least seems to plan to practice his martial skills and is eminently qualified to teach everyone else how to fight with the available weapons. I believe at least one character intended to try to get Sam to teach them his firebolt spell.
  • Possible general checking in on/metaphorically or literally saying goodbye to surviving family.
Obvious questions logistically include...

  • Does the team plan to try to invite Daniel to their future safehouse as a resident or guest? If they want to learn his ability from him, he presumably at least needs to spend some time around, but that doesn't have to automatically mean trying to incorporate him closely into the group.
  • Is there any plan to buy from or sell to the Kingdom folks anything else? In general, if they're legitimate agents of the Kingdom it can be safely assumed they have, or can get, basically any sort of mundane or Unholy items as well as possessing expertise in Necromancy practically by default.
  • Does the team intend to prioritize exploring the Catacombs, forest, or other regions in any particular capacity?
  • Does the team plan to try to acquire any docks, boats, or other naval assets that conceivably support near future leaving of Seafang?
  • Are there any particular powers, spells, or other skills the team wants to focus on training?
  • And, of course, order of operations; some things have to come in a certain order more or less absolutely (need to sell the mansion if they want to use money from that to buy a safehouse of some sort, need to have a resting place arranged for serious training time, though that could conceivably be done via eg the Catacombs or the woods) but others such as feeding are a bit less rigid on timing.
There's probably other ideas about, just trying to keep us a bit organized and in motion. Feel free to comment on, object to, suggest, or otherwise respond to this with whatever thoughts and plans.
