Blood-soaked Destinies (A Vampire the Masquerade Quest)

So it's an Italian mobster or a private detective in America (it's noir, although we're act more like a mercenary, on paper, we're more likely to be a private detective)

Well, you wouldn't be the Italian mobster, but they would certainly be around. As for what you are doing I think that might be another vote. Or if not, probably some sort of private detective in both cases. Although probably with different priorities and slightly different feel.

Character Creation Part Four
First of, sorry for the long wait, this post just really did not want to be written and I am still not sure If I am happy with what I have, but it though that it would be better to just continue than mulling this over for the tenth time. That being said, now that the essential questions are done, we can get to the heart of character creation: The character itself. This update will require a plan vote, rather than a single choice. Example:

[x] Plan: Full Social
-[x] The Socialite
-[x] Enjoying Un-life
-[x] …Well connected

Many of the individual choices may prompt follow up votes that will be presented in the next update. For example the "well connected" option may prompt a vote on who the individual is that you are connected to and what you owe them. These follow up votes will be addressed in the next few updates together with characteristics such as name, gender and vampire clan. Many of these votes will also influence your starting stats and backgrounds, but mostly this is a vote to form the character you will be playing and how the may act during the quest. I will try to balance all the options so min/maxing isn't really a thing, just pick whatever you think would fit your idea of the character the best. So without further ado:

*****

A few decades have passed since your life ended and your new existence began, in the terms of the camarilla that rules over this city you would be a Neonate, not that term is necessarily familiar to you. The following questions will determine what happened before this story begins and how you acted during that time. It will also decide what you will have access in terms of recourses and knowledge as well as many other things I already mentioned or will mention in the descriptions of the individual questions. First of:

How do you go about things?
This vote represents different archetypes of interaction with a situation rather than an actual job. For example, just because you pick Soldier doesn't mean that you were actually a soldier in life, it just means you often take the physical approach. The vote will also determine your attribute spread and although I will be assigning the individual dots in the end, the priority can be decided here. As you may have noticed no option has mental as tertiary, mostly because it would go against the chosen theme. For those who are interested, the Attribute spread in Vampire is as follows:

Physical: Strength, Dexterity and Stamina
Social: Charisma, Manipulation and Appearance
Mental: Perception, Intelligence and Wits

The Attributes go from 1 to 5, 1 means that you are somehow impaired with the attribute while 2 is human average, all the way up to 5 which means that you are as good as a human can be at such things. All attributes start at one by default. Primary will assign 7 additional dots to the category, Secondary will assign 5 and Tertiary will assign 3.

-[ ] The Soldier (physical primary, mental secondary, social tertiary)

-[ ] The Socialite (social primary, mental secondary, physical tertiary)

-[x] The Detective (mental primary, social secondary, physical tertiary)

What were you doing in the city before the story began?
This vote will determine what you spend you time on here in Philadelphia. The chosen option will influence your backstory and your ability spread as well as your backgrounds.

-[ ] Surviving
You were scraping by, living of the dregs of society and hoping every morning that your shitty little apartment won't crumble during the day and leave you to the mercy of the sun. You have become proficient in surviving night by night, you know the city and its terrible underbelly well and can adapt to most situations as they come.

-[ ] Hiding
There is something or someone that wants you harm. Perhaps it is your sire, a mortal hunter or something else entirely. You have become proficient in staying out of sight, avoiding the wrong attention and smelling trouble from a mile away. A useful thing to be good as as an independent vampire.

-[x] Researching
Just because you do not engage in vampire politics does not mean that the vampiric condition in and of itself does not interest you, not to mention the possibility of every other mythological story being at least somewhat true. You have become a student of the occult, having glimpsed at least some of the things that share the night with you.

-[ ] Investigating
There is something in this city that you need to find. Perhaps it is a mortal relative, a former lover or proof that can cleanse your name from a terrible crime. You have become efficient in sniffing out the truths that others want to keep hidden, a dangerous talent in the circles of the undead.

-[ ] Enjoying Un-life
What sense is there in living eternally if you are not living at all? You used your vampiric abilities to accumulate money and influence. Now you throw parties, play the social butterfly and drink blood from only the most delectable vessels. For this to happen you needed to become savvy in the ways of finance, conversation and subterfuge.

*****

Why did you manage to stay independent?
You scoff at the idea of the secretive vampire government and its doomsayer cult counterpart. That's why you have chosen an unlife as an independent factor, not as rare as both of those groups would have you believe, but not as common as it perhaps should be. The reason as to why individuals that claim to be Autarkis are tolerated can vary. In these last few years you have been ignored simply by virtue of being the least of the Camarilla's problems. Before that however you were left alone because you were…

-[ ] …Well connected
You know somebody in the local Camarilla that has been protecting you for one reason of another. There are many reasons why this may have been the case, but in almost all of them you have the ear of a patron powerful enough to make the Camarilla look the other way and a terrible debt that you will have to pay back one day.

-[ ] …Careful
You made sure that the attention of the local court never landed on you, either by not leaving behind any trails or setting thing up, so that there was always something else they had to deal with first.

-[x] …Useful
You worked as a sort of freelancer for some members of the city's Camarilla, as an investigator in matters where discretion was key and deniability had to be assured. This did not only grant you some connections but also important knowledge of how Philadelphia's social circles are arranged.

-[ ] …Dangerous
You know how to fight dirty. They tried to come for you a few times, but mines, grenades and other modern equipment is rather new to some of the enforcers the city send to eliminate you and eventually the cost was simply deemed to high and you were left alone, this might have earned you some grudges though.

Okay, again, this took way longer than it should have, but here it is. Thanks for sticking around despite the long wait and happy voting!

[X] Knowledge is Useful
-[x] The Detective (mental primary, social secondary, physical tertiary)
-[x] Researching
-[x] …Useful

First choice is because while a physical character would be useful it's often the subtler stuff which is the real danger.
Second choice is because if I was a Kindred I'd for sure be trying to learn more about how the world works.
Third choice is because it takes the least amount of work and risk to maintain.

The world of darkness has always been full of mysteries and riddles. Many vampires are living historical relics and social specialization will help us gain their knowledge.

I was tempted to go full detective for the character, but knowledge of the occult is way harder to gain than investigating expirience. And knowledge is power. Its always better to understand the things that lurk in the dark corners of the world.

Since we're independant, we work as a detective for the Camarilla by using our talent for hiding to get in places we shouldn't be.

The most interesting characters I've found in VtM stories are ones with complicated relationships and a good mixture of abilities with key things of focus, but not quite monofocus.

Social Skills are a Major boon for a vampire, creates easier hunting opportunities and gets you out of a lot of situations, being main in mental is good but it being second actually means you end up above average overall regardless, and well physical tertiary can just mean normal human level which is fine, especially when you add blood-buffs when need be to overcome not being necessarily excellent.

Researching may seem like an interesting choice for a Socialite, but good social acumen gives you a higher chance at access to information then pure intelligence, much of the occult knowledge is horded by ancients and beings that may balk in rage at you pilfering or learning them, but if you can convince them to let you in you can gain a ton. And as always Knowledge is Power, and Power is Protection.

Finally we get to Well Connected, not only does this create quality story fodder it works within the themes of Noir, the Sword of Damocles hangs above our heads for both protection and threat. This gives us a direct hook point into the Camarilla without being forced directly into doing the dangerous and dirty things they don't want to be caught doing themselves. Additionally I think it plays well with the other two, we are socially skilled granting us the notice of another and possibly our acumen in the occult was useful or fostered by this Patron for needs yet unknown.

[X] …Dangerous
You were once powerful in the city. The prince's personal enforcer. Now, you have to crawl through the blood bags, to survive, but that's not your motivation, never has been.
Somebody fucked you
Someone pulled you off the top of your pyramid and dumped you in the bloody mud. And you're going to find out who he is.
There were those who thought of taking advantage of your fall from the prince's grace to settle old quarrels. You made them remember that despite not being under the prince's protection anymore, despite not being as physically strong as the prince's new toy... Your fangs are still sharp... and you're thirsty.

I'm not sure if I could create a custom plan, but all I did was change the order of 2 stats and add a bit more background to why the PC is so dangerous.
