You know the funny thing is, I want to make a joke about Norton having so many names that he has a book dedicated to just keeping track of them only I never found a good way to add that in.

No I'm talking about actual names, not nicknames and titles and whatnot.

Like George, Michael and that sort of shit.

Real mortal names that he changes because he dosen't give a shit.

Does Norton have any family or any descendants?? In most vamp media sufficiently powerful vampires pass down traits or abilities to their offspring.

does he have any descenders biologically or vampiricly that he keeps in contact with and bakes cookies for them/provide advice etc.. or is he so old the modern elders assume his myths were many different people?

I would hope that his enhanced senses would mean that Norton would be able to pick up on whether or not the milk was spoiled.

Daytime Highs:

Make them some breakfast: You have some mortal food that will be good enough to provide sustenance to them. Eggs, Bacon, You think you have some milk in there too?

You went to your pantry and refrigerator and pulled out several items of mortal food. Most of the township never thought of anything, they knew you donated a lot of food to the homeless in town who were abandoned… and had their minds broken by you by accident when they discovered you in a position that would have put you in grave danger from the other vampires…

But most really thought you were a routine that everyone could follow, walk out at sunset, do errands, walk the desert, go to grocery stores on Sunday to get a small, but assuredly enough for a single person amount of food, and you would, quite, make sure that it was eaten by the homeless whom you invited to your home, or met on your walks.

Sometimes you fed from them, but you made sure that they were safe and not going to die after you did that.

The quality of their blood, despite everything was good, just not enough for you to really enjoy.

But the thing was the food you had was simply for others, and you never liked to waste it.

The Bacon was a delight and mixed with a few drops of blood, it was a decent appetizer. Eggs, if they had the dead chick or half-developed yoke, were actually an emergency substitute for blood. Though it tasted terrible, and you preferred to just drink blood from an actual chicken if that was the case.

And the milk… well you had coffee and blood, and the milk was just to cool it down, it wasn't because you detested the taste.

You prepared your stove and broke the eggs, they would be scrambled because you honestly couldn't bother what they liked, gooey and cheesy eggs with bacon was something the children would enjoy. Rich in the proteins they need, and without any… of the more complicated things that humans enjoyed.

You hated those dammed junkies who peddled poison. Diluted the blood, making it harder to get sustenance…

Killed too many. Even worse than the killers

You sighed prepared the plates and poured the milk. "Children, come inside the kitchen." You ordered.

The two did, and both looked at the food than each other.

When you set them down, they began eating like animals, and that was not what you wanted. "Stop!"

They did stop, and then they looked at you. "You may be scared, you may be starved, but eat slowly. You are alive, so savor what is in front of you. Savor it."

They nodded and both began to eat slower, smaller bites were taken.

They soon finished eating, and you looked at Mary. "Who are your parents?" You asked.

Mary looked at you, then at Joshua. "Simon and Fraya…" Hesitation was in her voice as if she was afraid of what could happen if it was said.

"Last names." The names were familiar. But you didn't recall.

"I don't think you would think highly."

"As long as you do not lie, I guarantee you, that it won't. And don't give me something silly like Belmont. A good game it may be, but very poor when it comes to teaching how to slay vampires. You shouldn't need a hero to kill the monsters for you, you must be able to do it yourself." You stated.

How you longed for the days when things were exciting. The inquisition, as poorly equipped to deal with you were, had a lovely chase and game to it that made you feel so much better about everything. It gave you some excitement for the first time in centuries. Least until you decided to play soldier and officer among the Natives of America, and in the American Revolution.

"Lucero." She said.

Oh… You sighed, remembering old friends. "They… are your parents?" You replied. The children of Vampire hunters were now in your home. Sure they were friends, but they only assisted you in keeping the peace between the more… violent factions that tried to take over San Franciso when you were there. They were good people in a dangerous world. Children when they were with you. Barely 15 and 16 each… and they wanted to fight monsters. Because they thought that they had to, after all, one had magic, and the other had skills. "why would they send you to me?"

Mary gave a shrug. "Biggest, baddest, meanest vampire on the planet?" She guessed. "And Joshua seems to do nothing but attract vampires to him because they claimed he was born with magical powers." Well, that made a lot more sense. "They said that you would be able to… protect us, till we learned how to survive on our own."

You took a breath and showed your teeth. "I could just kill you, and be on my way, what makes you think I won't for disturbing my retirement and peace and quiet?"

Joshua then spoke and his voice seemed to echo with hundreds of others. Oh, blast. "You are not evil, at least, not the kind of evil that those that hunt us are. You are wise in your evil. Filled with not only regret and sorrow but of hope and joy."

The little boy then seemed ready to fall asleep.

"Oh boy, your brother isn't just born magic, his soul must have been stitched together in the womb." You then felt the boy's temperature. "When was he born?"

"December 21st, three years ago." Mary said.

The weak point in the magical equinox. "Was there a priest present at his birth, and was he baptized?"

"No priest, he wasn't baptized five hours after when they thought he would die." Mary recalled.

Wonderful. "Seems that someone or something was busy in those five hours." You stated as you picked the boy up and took him to your coach. "His own innate magical heritage from his father, along with the weak point in the magical barriers have bonded his soul with other mages long dead, granting him an incredible power that he does not know how to control properly." you replied as you set him down and wrapped him in a blanket.

"In english?" She asked.

"My dear I am speaking English, much as I loath this language and its ever-changing vocabulary and slang." You replied.

"Simpler terms than?"

You thought you were rather simple. "Your brother can access the power of dead mages of the long past and he cannot control it at least not yet."

"Like Avatar?" She asked.

"What the hell is Avatar?" You asked.

"It's a show that… never mind." Mary said sheepishly. "So why does that mean vampires are hunting him?"

"Simple, he can wipe us out, and rather easily, in fact, there are laws in place that require us to hunt down and kill them before they can grow up and wage his bloody crusade against our kind. You know it ebbs and flows, but we've killed everyone like your brother for the past ten thousand years. Most of them make it to young adulthood, and we kill them when they start trying to kill us." you replied.

The last one you killed fled to the New World in the 17th century. To think she thought that an ocean would keep her safe.

Hah.

Sarah then grabbed your arm and pulled you away from him. "So what are you doing now?"

At this moment, nothing. "I don't know. But what I do know, is that I won't kill you or him, as long as you are guests in my home. Your parents were my friends, and I won't let that memory be tarnished by the rules I created. It's hard enough trying to find others willing to not view me as a monster."

It was the truth, how long had it been since you had friends... real friends who knew what you were, and didn't feel disgusted by your very existence?

At that, Mary relaxed. "Thank you for your hospitality Mister-"

"Norton. Please, I've gone through so many names that this new one is growing on me."

What do you feel as you sit down to watch them carry on through the day?:

Her name is Mary, not Sarah.

[X] Joy and fear in equal measure. Knowing that we're bringing comfort to the kin of dear friends fills us with a warmth not felt in ages, but we know what this means. If we can't find a way to disguise Joshua's magic, we'll bring trouble to our doorstep. Then the choice is to give him up, kill him ourselves, or take all comers. Needless to say this would not be conducive to enjoying our retirement. In fact, despite our power, in the worst case scenario this might cause those who could give us a true death to rise against us. When did we start getting this sentimental?

Well I mean... that is a lot of power even by Norton's rather elevated standards. Could be useful. Obviously he has strong opinions about how vampires and even mortals should comport themselves. If we can get the kid mage to control his powers and we get him on our side we can reforge society into a more pleasing form.

We are retired damnit! Shaping the world is supposed to be somebody else's problem.
