We don't want to join the fourth division, because the fourth division doesn't get long-term postings to the world of the living. They stay home in Soul Society to run their hospital or tag-along on other squad's missions.
Random thought. Is 4 = DEATH just a Chinese thing or does it apply in Japan as well? That would be rather ironic, considering squad four is a bunch of healers, yet rather fitting considering who their captain is.

And if this was to join the fourth, I'd turn it down for exactly those reasons. But this is still early days, just a couple weeks into a year of training. Getting a broader sense of the Gotei, building a good relationship with the fourth and maybe picking up a few kaido tips is not going to lock us in to anything. Ichigo with a broader skillset than 'I hit it with my sword' which was the near totality of what canon ichigo could do is very attractive to me.
It's a thing in Japan as well, yes. One way of saying the number four is a homonym for a word for death.

True but he needs to become strong if he wishes to go there, 2nd got many missions in real world, also he can use his connections with Shiba's to contact his father, right now we must focus how to make him strong, 2nd division follows a pragmatic mindset, in canon he was far easily motivated by his heart, and Aizen used his this flaw to predict all his actions successfully. we should force him to face the truth, how one must use everything to win in a war, how to use tactic, strategy and stealth. i want him to be underhanded and a combat pragmatist.
