It's not that they can't see her, it's that they're so used to not being seen when they're in the land of the living. Even Ichigo, who's only been dead for a relatively short time, was slow to realize she was in fact talking to them.
They're more likely to think "this person is talking to themselves" instead of "this person can see ghosts".

The point being:
-Living world - Only spiritually rich food are Pluses and Hollows
-Hueco Mundo - Only spiritually rich food are Hollows
-Soul Society -Shinigami are technically edible, but it's just far more efficient to grow spiritual crops that can be prepared into spiritually rich food.
All it takes is for Ichigo to offer a Soul Society riceball out of his lunch kit to get her interest.

Oh, man, that dress. You still remember when Yuzu started dressing all her plushes in top hats and eyepatches, and got to wearing frilly black dresses. It took Dad weeping about how his little baby girl looked like she was going to a funeral before she finally gave it up.
According to Karin, she'd been all wrapped up in some goth loli magical girl show, which led to Dad declaring he'd need to screen all their television habits.
Which led to Dad buying a Magical Mari~☆ t-shirt and taking everyone along to see a live costume concert.
