1. Let the Games Begin:
"You want to do what?" The Admiral's voice echoed through the halls of the boardroom. The humming of the holograms and the other concern faces said all that needed to be said about the brazen plan that was now on the table. "You are insane to make such a request! We will not allow this to stand."
"No, I am well within my rights as your prince to take command of a vessel of the Imperial Navy. This meeting is merely a courtesy for the Admiralty board Admiral. As for the ship in question, I'm sure you realize my rank requires a certain prestige. One that the Pride of the Empire is well suited for." The Prince replied coolly. He was enjoying himself far too much.
"Your grace, what you are asking for is madness! Taking the last super battleship to galavant around the galaxy is a-" The admiral… Harken, gasped in exasperated anger. "A misallocation of a valuable resource! One that can not be easily replaced!"
The prince smiled. "And allowing it to orbit the capital, doing nothing but allow it to be used as a display of our power, cannibalizing several hundred ships just to keep it in operational capacity is a misallocation of resources. The decision is final Admirals, by my decree."
"The Emperor will hear about this boy!" Harken shot. "You will be brought before us and stripped of your command!"
The prince smiled. "Well then… I'll be sure to let my father know who to relieve from duty."
The holograms quietly turned off and the Prince turned towards you. "Ah, Ensign, is everything ready?"
You nodded. "Yes sir. The ship's engine is operating at 85% efficiency, taking into account that we are operating within friendly territory. Hyperdrives are fully operational and the core is stabilized and ready to jump. Weapons are primed and ready per your instructions. We are combat-ready."
The prince smiled as he walked, and you trailed behind him. "We can never be too careful."
He entered the elevator to the bridge, and you followed him, pushing yourself as far against the wall as possible to not bump into the Prince with your… torpedoes.
He looked at you and smiled again. "Why are you so worried?"
"Sir, there are still far more qualified officers that could have served as your assistant. Why did you choose me sir?" You asked.
The Prince ticked his teeth. "Because I see the talent and ambitious spirit, that almost everyone here in this ship seems to lack, or refuses to show me. You also tell me the damned truth when everyone else wants to kiss my ass. It's quite refreshing." His eyes wandered to your breasts for a moment. "That and your records speak for themselves. Second in your class in military theory, competent at all theaters of operation, even if you have not fully mastered them. Frankly, I'm glad I caught you when I did. Can't have the other Admirals taking a prized tactical officer like you."
You frowned. When most people said prize, it usually meant your body being the prize. You remember quite a few men trying to make a pass at you… and quite a few of them groping you.
You enjoyed seeing them disciplined for their actions by their officers and removed from your presence, and into the stockades.
But it still did not fill you with much pride. "I'm glad you feel that way." You replied, emotionless.
The Prince noticed. "I recognize the talent of the mind Ensign von Lanze, not the attractiveness of the body. You wouldn't be on this ship if that were not the case."
The Elevator opened and the bridge crew looked to the two of you. "Prince is on deck!" Looke the helmsmen shouted.
Everyone did not stand at attention, as they were at their stations, but they were waiting for an order.
"Ensign on the helm." He ordered you to get to your station at the helm.
You sat down next to the helmsman, Fred Looke, at tactical command, a station normally reserved for the Tactical Officer. But it seems you would be taking that role at the moment. "Let's get this lady moving!" The prince ordered.
"He took his sweet ass time," Looke whispered under his breath. "How did the board take it?"
"I don't deal in rumors Looke." You replied as you taped a few buttons and the ship's tactical screen came in front of you. "You know that."
"Come on, what did they say?" He pressed.
"They're pissed and can't do anything about it." You replied. "End of story."
Looke frowned. "Fine. Fuck, don't need to act so uptight." He said as he looked at the star chart. "We are all set to jump to Hyperspace Prince."
"My prince, we're being hailed by the Defense fleet! They are asking us to disengage hyperdrives and move into orbit around the Capital." The comms officer stated, loudly.
By the stars what you would give for a tactical earpiece. "Ignore them." The prince ordered.
You looked and saw the weapons lock. "Sir, we have weapons locked on our engines!" You shouted.
Great, now you were guilty… dammit, this ship really needed more tactical gear… stupid damn old ship.
"Are we hot?" The Prince asked.
"Yes, sir." Looke replied.
"Punch it." He ordered.
The ship groaned as the engines spooled, and then everything became slower… the stars than began to move to the side like they were lasers.
And then, you lurched as time itself split open and you entered a portal of blue and white. The windows than darkened, to prevent blindness.
"Well… that was… far more simple than I thought it was." The prince replied. "Status report Ensign von Lanze?"
You glanced at the tac screen. "We are green across the board, sir." You replied.
"Good. Looke, when we leave hyperspace set a course for the Core?" He stated.
"For the Core sir?" Looke asked as he began typing away with a smile. "Are we playing pirates, sir?"
"That we are Looke, that we are." The Prince replied. "Ensign von Lanze, begin the tactical clock. Operation Tiderdale has officially begun."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Operation Tiderdale: A raiding mission to disrupt the enemy fleet movements, trade convoys, and planetary defense systems. The first in over a dozen tactical raids across the Core before the Assult on Isreal IV, their hub for fleet traffic in the Goliath Sector, the Border between the Empire and the Core.
The Pride of the empire would be the bait, to bring hundreds of ships barreling down on top of you all like you were some sort of cake at a party. Washey wanted the ship as a trophy so he would spare no expense in capturing it as his great accomplishment against the empire.
Of course the plan was supposed to not involve the Pride, but to use it's IFF tag to signal that it was.But the prince decided it would be better if the Pride itself would partake in the operation.
Against the Admiralty Board's wishes of course. And involved… commandeering the Pride of the Empire.
The raid had begun… and that meant things were going to happen.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You have plenty of time before you reach core Space, some time to really make sure that you were ready for the operation.
