Beneath Celestial Depths (An Arpeggio of Blue Steel Quest)

This just seems like railroading. -_-
I mean how likely is it that Mary is going to try to run or tell on us the moment she can again?

1. Railroading How? If you're going to make accusations like that, you better have a good explanation/rationale.
2. Considering we've seen from Mary's POV and she's pretty cool with the 'monstrous' Fog ship, about as likely as the quest's players not being paranoid.

The major action we have no choice on. like how is that not railroading?

Wait... I'm confused: why do we need to skeddaddle right now? It's just a cruise ship taking a gander at an old island. They can't peer into the underground base or anything and their not likely to come ashore to investigate personally...

Because Mary. It's probably a psychological thing after being marooned on an island for so long.

I mean if the ship is head right at the island then I could understand the lack of choice on the matter, but based on the information we simply see it in the distance.

Because we have a choice on how we react.
Most of the thread is seemingly convinced the Cops are here and is pepping to abandon the base. Others are just going out to see just what's up with this liner.
And besides, did it not occur to you to ask the QMs if ignoring the boat and doing something else was an option?

You missed the 'never been this close before' detail.

How the hell would Mary know she cant even see it. -_-
And that's 0/2 on reading comprehension.
You're Surcouf, and your radar just pinged something...something close. You disentangle yourself from a sleeping Mary, waking her in the process, and quickly head to the surface for a visual. It's too far away for a human to make out, but...

Mary arrives on the surface shortly after you do, yawning deeply while you stare into the distance, "What's wrong?"

You hesitate for a moment, "I think I can see a cruise liner."

Without warning, you feel May's hand close around your arm like a vice, drawing your gaze to her own wide eyes, "Then we need to hurry! No one's ever come this close before! We need to go right now!"
Because Surcouf can see it with her eyes and radar. And Mary is pretty knowledgeable of Surcouf and Fog units.

Apparently (from the format provided in the update) I see nothing that indicates we can in fact ignore the boat.
There is no "[ ] Tell Mary to wait you're too paranoid to go see other people yet, do other Major Action" choice.
This is probably because telling Mary 'no' over something like this would probably totally set back our relationship and cause all sorts of issues, fairly obviously and they're assuming there's a snowball's chance in hell of that vote passing anyway.

To clarify: You have to go investigate. This turn is basically just your chance to grab anything you want from the base before you head out to do so.

As for why you don't have a choice: Mary is incredibly insistent, and there is no apparent IC reason NOT to sail closer and get a better look at things. Not doing so would be OOC for Surcouf.

?
Mary cant see it, thus if something came that close before she wouldn't have a clue. -_-
Yep. Quite possible this happens all of the time, but she never knew it...she's just not thinking it through all that much.

Oh, if all we're doing is giving Mary a looksee at a civie ship (as well as taking one ourself), I guess we don't have to prepare for total abandonment. Still, it would be good to hedge our bets, so snag the MREs...

In case we need to make some baguettes from them for the people on the ship!

Did we ever start making headway on the uplink? It's feels wasteful to start something that was risky and then simply abandon it. Could we look at least once before ditching the base?

Between the fear of Scarlet Fleet and a triumphant humanity, people are too scared to even consider it.

I'd like to see what we get for trying, but good luck talking people into voting for it.

So, I do want to check the uplink as/if we leave, if we're perma-leaving, and make sure we've copied all the base's useful data. Instant sunshine and/or tungsten spears are not my idea of taking a holiday, and I'm not yet un-paranoid enough to rule them out - but the uplink is still potentially really useful.

Otherwise? Iiii don't know what to pick. If we're really just going to go see, I don't think taking a ton along is necessary. On the other hand - if we have the cargo space and the time - I don't see any issue with loading up on whatever we can stow quickly. So, tentatively...

And it'll make for a good source of extra materials if we have to make something scrap and spare ammo won't supply the bits for, I guess?

Ok, so some people are for using the uplink before we ditch this rock. This is just a guess but I feel like the GMs want us to get moving already so we might not get to return and I really want to find out more before leaving and letting this opportunity waste away.

From @Higure's comment earlier this is what is says on the tin: A civilian ship getting close.
Not a police vessel, not a military vessel, not (necessarily) something meant to represent 'time's up, get going'. Just something that was probably rolled on in the background as a random event or something to give us another look into the current state of humanity.
