Is Xia Xuefeng supposed to be an Isekai from Earth?
That's an interesting possibility. Especially since she wouldn't be the only example, now, would she - and the other one was also aimed at Bing Meilu.

Given which powers would be capable of doing it, picking someone with a blood affinity to drop in front of her with the expectation she'd hand over the Anthem of the Crucified seems not entirely implausible.

Edit: Looked back over our first introduction to the character, and it seems increasingly plausible. Not confirmed, I don't think, but I'm not seeing anything to rule it out, either.

That she was an especially talented cultivator who had only just started cultivating, and was following a manual that was going to kill her? Lotta bait on that hook, honestly. And I don't think the parties who'd be doing this are unfamiliar with Bing Meilu's character, as an extremely old, established cultivator.

The plan that basically amounts to "throw shit at the wall and see what sticks"?

That's not a plan. That's you mistaking the fact that you are not seeing all the failed attempts for some master plan. That's you mistaking the fact that statistically speaking the chance that a cultivation technique Bing Meilu hands out to somebody contains an exploitable loophole approaches one. Bing Meilu has collected a shitload of them and handed them out like free candy.
At some point some devil got his chance and it looks like a plan to you because you do not see the failures, when it is all basic statistics.

My sibling in Christ, calm down. I'm not even the person you were arguing with initially.

Complex plan complex, can fail, simple plan not complex, less likely to fail.

Well yeah, simple plans are better than complex ones - but the thing is - silly overcomplicated chessmaster plans are extremely in genre.

What would the Pit's reason be for expecting Bing Meilu to teach a specific Blood Qi technique to an underling?

Bing Meilu loves teaching top grade techniques, because she is a hopeless minmaxer - if you go back to chapter 13, we can see she took about 5 seconds to decide to teach the Anthem after Xia sweared loyalty. Her teaching her strongest blood manual to a blood-talented underling is actually quite a predecible event given her personality.

Bing Meilu nodded, stepping back over to the bedside table where she had been in the process of scribing the instructions to the Butcher Sage's Legacy tome. It was rather strong- for the Bird Talon Continent, but not exactly what Bing Meilu would want her personal servants cultivating. Now that Bing Meilu had the assurance of Xia Xuefeng's loyalty, she had no reason to not give the girl a much stronger cultivation manual.

What was the strongest blood-type cultivation manual Bing Meilu had ever come across?

As Bing Meilu thought that, a distant memory flashed in the back of her mind, of a crimson red moon shining down upon a desolate battlefield littered with the corpses of gods and devils.

Bing Meilu had scavenged many treasures from that place but none came close to what her close friend Ruan Hua had discovered.

Smiling slightly, Bing Meilu grabbed the ink brush as she began to write down the instructions to the Blood-Moon Spectral God's Anthem of the Crucified.

Xia Xuefeng kneeled patiently at the foot of Bing Meilu's bed, watching her boss write for hours on end. Eventually, Bing Meilu set down her brush, lifting the stack of papers that contained the Mortal-Realm portion of the Anthem of the Crucified.

To be clear, i am hardly 100% sure that this is what is going on, but it's plausible enough that it can't be discarded out of hand.

Wait, so is the idea that Bing Meilu, protagonist of this story, views blood cultivation as crippled and the evidence for this is the fact that she doesn't use it herself?

Ugh, you know, when crippled shows up in Xianxia it tends to have a more specific usage than "inferior."

She would legitimately call any method that will only take you to tier 5/100 instead of tier 1/100(which is of course, her own method) as crippled.

If you think about it Blood cultivation is inherently predatory. This isn't a problem at the lower tiers because its a target rich environment, but the higher you go the smaller your pool of targets get, as lower tier targets offer negligible gains and the only higher tier targets around are stronger than you.

And of course if people know they're on the menu they tend to react badly, like raising coalitions against you.

Xia Xuefeng probably isn't going to be satisfied sticking with an inherently predatory form of cultivation. That said, she's been building up a lot of Karmic Merit, and she's currently already on a collision course with the God who wants to possess her.

What do we think swiping his status in Heaven would do to her cultivation? Because that seems like an entirely possible outcome.

Dones of rare spirit herbs floated in the air. Translucent Yin Qi wrapped around them and began to shine with white sparks. Slowly, the herbs began to dissolve into powders. If flams could be used to purify and refine, then so could ice. This was a law of Yin and Yang. Slowly, the powders swirled and seemed to melt into pure, milky water. Moments later, a flawless white pill that resembled a pearl appeared.

This was the Frozen Meridian Restoration Pill, used to restore meridians damaged by using the Frozen Meridian Eruption. In front of Bing Meilu kneeled Zhang.

It had been many, many months since the trip through the Flesh Mountains where the man had been crippled using the forbidden technique she had taught him.

At first, Bing Meilu had planned to retrieve the rare ingredients of the pill in Moon Crying Prefecture, but her trip to the Ashen Mountains had been unexpectedly profitable. She had just purchased the ingredients from the Redscale clan, who due to their yang cultivation, had many yin herbs in their storage.

"With this pill, you can restore your cultivation. The debt between us is settled."

The pill floated to the shaking hands of Zhang. His pupils dilated with excitement. Without hesitation, he swallowed a pill. A subtle glow shed from his body as the pill worked its magic.

"if you wish, you can give me your Essence Blood and join my Inner circle as a retainer. Otherwise, you may leave my employ."

With the Karma between them settled, if he chose to leave, she would have to kill him to ensure silence. Zhang had seen far too many shocking things in his time shadowing Bing Meilu. Being at the Peak of Core Formation with a lowly cultivation method and weak foundation, she was not worried about him defeating her.

A massive vortex opened up around Zhang as Qi surged to fill the vacuum of his meridians. He gasped slightly, golden light glowing in his eyes.

"I-I'm back..." he sighed, voice as gravelly as two rocks scraping against each other.

Bing Meilu silently waited for his answer.

"I'll join..."

Bing Meilu nodded. Going through the process, Zhang's Essence Blood was added to the contract chalice, making him the tenth member of her inner Circle, alongside Ji Hui, Li Ji, Jiang Hu, Xi Fu and the Elemental Five. he wasn't as talented as any of them, but Bing Meilu did not care much.

"I've inscribed the Golden Qilin River Gate on these ice tablets. Do your best to switch to this cultivation method in the next few months or years."

Zhang nodded, taking the tablets, and vanishing to a room to enter seclusion. Cultivation times rose exponentially with level. Shen Xinyue had taken only a few weeks to alter her cultivation method. It would be fast if Zhang could do it in half a year.

It had all started a few months ago. The Sect's Ranking Office had reported an anomy. A Qi Condensation disciple had defeated someone in Foundation Establishment. Either a new genius head appeared, or there was cheating at play.

That was where Investigator like Hou Ming came in. A Foundation Establishment skilled in stealth, it was his task to find out what was going on. He had just finished preparing to investigate this 'Bing Meilu' when she left the sect entirely on a self-appointed training mission.

Months later, she returned... Except, she and the entire faction had gone through astonishing growth. Two members had become Captains, multiple lieutenants had appeared and even the privates were all at the peak of the first realm.

There were only twenty or so captains in the whole of Seventieth port snake. Around eight were neutral, the rest were evenly divided between the four main factions. The addition of two new ones was a huge deal.

Formally the Crimson Dragon Faction, they seemed to now call themselves the 'Bing Meilu's Faithful Slaves Faction'. Such a title for a group that had birthed two Captains... It was utterly insane.

At this point, he was content to hand the investigation off to anyone else. He was smart enough to know not to get involved with insane situations.

But it was too late for that. After all, Hou Ming was the only person in Seventieth Port Snake to have done an investigation on Bing Meilu, someone who every power in the sect now wanted to know about.

"She appeared in Bluewing Prefecture and claimed to have been a secret disciple of the Moon Crying Swan Palace's Prime Grand Elder Hai Yu. She was brought to this port by Strike Force Commander Yu Changsheng, alongside a handmaiden named Xia Xuefeng and a crippled retainer.

Soon after, she challenged the head of a small faction called the Crimson Dragon Faction to a duel and won, taking over his faction. She was only in Qi Condensation at the time, but eyewitnesses say she won with ease. After that, her faction left on a training trip to the Ashen Mountains. I don't know what happened while she was there, but now that they're returned... Everyone in her faction has undergone explosive growth."

"Is that everything you know?" Commodore Rampage Sword asked, eyes narrowed.

Hou Ming gulped nervously, nodding his head.

"Very well, you may leave then," he waved his hand.

The investigator left the office. The Nascent Soul smiled as he looked over a report brought to him by another spy.

'How interesting...'

Xi Fu sat alone in a small cave. Hundreds of Spirit Stones sat around him in a formation. Rivers of Spiritual Qi hushed into him. Compared to Foundation Establishment, it took far more spiritual energy to make any progress in Core Formation. He'd only progressed two stages in the last week and a half.

'Dammit- Go faster!' Xi Fu grit his teeth.

Pain wracked his body as more and more spiritual energy drained into him. He could feel his vast potential, barely filled even slightly. His comprehension was already at the level of a Nascent Soul, only spiritual energy held him back.

'If only there was a way to dramatically increase how much Qi I can refine at once...'

Xi Fu blinked...

He stood up from his cave and left, flying back to the main faction hall in the blink of an eye. He went inside, to where Bing Meilu's throneroom was.

A dense freezing aura hit him and he involuntarily shivered. The whole throneroom was filled with a hair-raising yin aura that made him feel like he had entered into a haunted building. Bing Meilu sat atop Jiang Hu's old throne, eyes closed as she cultivated.

"Master, I came to ask if there was a way to dramatically increase my spiritual energy absorption..."

"...I told you to spend time mastering various kinds of Spear Qi." Bing Meilu's voice rang out.

"I-Well, I thought increasing my cultivation base would be more important than my combat power at the moment..." Xi Fu replied.

"Hmph. So young and already thinks he knows better than this senior. If you had instead focused on mastering what I had told you, you could use the Myriad Spear Refining Scripture and absorb the various impure energies of heaven and earth as if they were pure spiritual energy."

Xi Fu bowed deeply, an ashamed look on his face.

"And one more thing," Bing Meilu sighed, as if hesitant to speak. "Every Immortal has a different... lifestyle. It isn't following your Dao if you scamper about in fear about how I will react. So long as your cultivation continues to advance, I don't care how you spend your leisure time."

Xi Fu's eyes widened. Ever since he had returned to the Sect, he had spent every moment bitterly cultivating, afraid of angering Bing Meilu if she caught word of him lazing around with girls.

But... wasn't that stifling his own Dao heart? No wonder he had been unable to smoothly cultivate. Someone who followed the path of defying heaven but was terrified to do what he wanted- Wasn't that just a contradiction?

"Your wisdom has enlightened this junior, I'll take my leave!"

---

Captain Jin Lao strode toward the Crimson Dragon Hall, flanked by ten Lieutenants. As the official head of the Rampage Faction, he had come to try and make an alliance with the new power that had suddenly appeared in Seventieth Port Snake.

A man leapt out from the building. Unexpectedly, it was Xi Fu, the talk of the town.

Jin Lao waved at him, pulling out a large wrapped gift box.

"So it's you, Brother Xi Fu! I've come bear-"

"Not now!" Xi Fu ran right past Jin Lao. "I'm going to have sex!"

The delegation looked in confusion as the spearman ran away, completely snubbing them.

Jin Lao's eyes narrowed. He was an eight-stage Core Formation cultivator and the head of one of the port's largest factions. Even if Xi Fu was in the middle of having sex, he should stop and greet his superior. This was completely disrespectful.

"We're leaving!" He growled. "Clearly Bing Meilu doesn't put our Rampage Faction in her eyes!"

"Sir, Boss said we were to try and attain an alliance whatever the cost..." one of his lieutenant attendants stammered.

Jin Lao reared around, slapping the man in the face with a meaty crunch.

"Fine, let's go!" he spat.

The delegation made their way to the entrance of the Crimson Dragon Hall.

"Greetings! Jin Lao of the Rampage Faction has come to visit!" he called out.

No one answered. The man's eyebrow twitched angrily. He slammed open the door and pushed inside. He pressed forward, opening a door to where a scholarly Litenenant in a jade green robe sat, nursing over a stack of papers.

"You! Is this not Bing Meilu's faction hall?" Jin Lao demanded.

The lieutenant turned to him with bloodshot eyes and a furious scowl.

"Can't you see I'm fucking busy? Do you know how many tax sheets I have to go through before the end of the month? Do you!?" Li Ji screamed. "Don't interrupt me again or there will be an unquenchable blood debt between our factions, I can guarantee that!"

Jin Luo could only stand still in shock. It was one thing for a fellow Captian to be dismissive... but this was just a lieutenant? Who gave him the balls to speak so disrespectfully to a Core Formation expert.

"Brat, do you know who I am?" a sharp aura poured from Jin Luo.

The jade-robed man gave him one inspecting gaze, before shaking his head and turning back to his stack of papers. Muttering under his breath, he popped a stimulant pill and got back to work, ignoring the delegation completely.

"Carry the one, apply local taxes, the Dragon Inspecting guild fee to guarantee purity... Divide by current liabilities..."

Jin Luo stormed out of the office, only to find himself facing another man.

"If it isn't the famous Brother Jin Luo? I've long heard tales of your martial prowess. I came over as soon as I heard your call," it was a tall man with horns growing from his head, dressed in Captain's robes.

"You must be Jiang Hu, the former head of the Crimson Dragons," Jin Luo said, eyes simmering with cold anger.

"You recognize me then? Then I haven't lived in vain." Jiang Hu gave Jin Luoa a friendly pat on the shoulder. "Brother, why don't we go and sit down and have some wine? I'm sure there's much to discuss."

"Oh, there is indeed. Moments ago, in defiance of all social norms, a Lieutenant in a green robe was extremely rude, even swearing at me with obscenity. He must be punished at once, then we can begin our negotiations."

Jiang Hu's expression did a complete one-eighty. He shook his head in disagreement.

"Bing Meilu ordered Li Ji to finish his documents by the end of the month or he will be punished. He can't be delayed. He put up a sign on his door, did you not read it?"

Of course, Jin Luo had not read it. Who was he, a maid?

"Even so, as his superior, you punish him, or he'll learn that such disrespect is acceptable." Jin Luo demanded eyes narrowed. "My Rampage faction only does business with those that have well-enforced and disciplined rules. To speak to honoured guests in such a way is completely shocking."

The faction head didn't believe that anyone would choose a no-name second realm over him, the head of the Rampage Faction and one of the sect's strongest captains. He had destroyed entire factions for less.

"Don't make things hard on me," Jiang Hu scowled, crossing his arms, position clear.

Jin Luo could only stare in shock. Was he dreaming?

"So what, you think I'm just supposed to take this disrespect?"

Jiang Hu shrugged, nonchalantly, as if to say yes.

Jin Luo placed his hand on his sword hilt, eyes simmering with fury. This was completely intolerable. It seemed he would have to remind the port why he had earned the title of Bloodthirsty Sword-

"Don't think I won't slap the shit out you brat!" Jiang Hu leapt forward, palm smacking into Jin Luo's face with earth-shattering force.

A sonic boom ripped out, shattering the windows of the building and sending Jin Luo flying. The swordsman shot backwards, tearing through a wall and tumbling over the muddy training field.

"Who gave you permission to cause trouble, huh? Do you know who Li Ji is? Do you think my faction's accountant is someone you can afford to offend! That man pays my salary, you cunt! Are you trying to steal food from my family's mouth, huh?"

With each declaration, Jiang Hu slapped Jin Lu's face again and again, completely furious. What was even more shocking was the swordsman's complete inability to defend himself. He didn't even have the chance to draw his weapon.

That was because the moment, Jin Luo had placed his hand on his sword, Jiang Hu's terrifying draconic aura slammed into him, rendering the Captain completely unconscious.

Having undergone Bing Meilu's 'will-tempering' (torture) and refined his pure draconic blood and body, no ordinary Core Formation could even move when pressed by the sabre fighter's draconic aura. At this point, Jiang Hu was just beating a defenceless enemy.

"What a curious sight..." an icy voice could be heard from above. "Do you know what you did wrong, Jiang Hu?"

The man in question froze in terror, dropping Jin Luo's unconscious body to the ground. He bowed deeply, in silence. The lieutenants of the Rampage Faction sighed in relief.

It seemed at least the leader of the faction was reasonable!

"If I did not accept his greetings, then why did you even let him come inside? Next time, if I don't welcome someone to the faction hall, slap them the moment they touch the doors, don't wait for paint to dry!"

Jiang Hu nodded nervously, bowing even more deeply. A wave of icy yin Qi washed over Jin Luo, rousing him.

The swordsman blinked in confusion. His hand shot for his sword, only for ice to wrap around his body, freezing him in place.

"Hey, what the hell-" he opened his mouth to speak, only for it too to freeze over.

Sword Qi exploded outwards, trying to shred the ice to pieces, only to dully shatter upon contact.

"Do you think that I, Bing Meilu, am deaf? Do you think I failed to hear your greetings? I did not let you in because you are not qualified to speak to me. If your master wants me to become an ally, he can come to negotiate himself instead of sending his dog. Instead, you broke down my door and caused trouble in front of this lord's eyes? Is your Rampage Faction trying to provoke me?"

A lieutenant ran over, bowing deeply in apology to the flying Bing Meilu. It was the same one that Jin Luo had slapped earlier, a black handprint still swelling on his face.

"-Lord, please forgive this lowly one, Jin Luo was only acting ignorantly, our Rampage Faction has no desire for enmity with you. The Commodore only wishes for good relations with you."

Bing Meilu was silent for a long while, before she spoke again.

"Who is the strongest curse master you have as a subordinate?"

If flams could be used to purify and refine, then so could ice. This was a law of Yin and Yang.
Ah yes, light and dark, Yin and Yang, Chalk and Cheese, Flim and Flam. All equal and opposite and each containing a fraction of the other. :D
It had all started a few months ago. The Sect's Ranking Office had reported an anomy.
Who reported it? Don't tell me - it was anomymous. :p
Either a new genius head appeared, or there was cheating at play.
Nods. Indeed. Every genius head contains a genius brain.

This is just soo good
Everytime i come here just to read your story
Loved from the very beginning
Keep being yourself Bing Meilu
She's a treasure beyond anything I've ever seen

Xi Fu is achieving the realization that his spear and his spear are one and the same thing and you cannot comprehend one of them without also comprehending the other.
His big spear causes heaven-defying big deaths, while his little spear causes heaven-attaining little deaths.

Just watch, the next girl he fucks achieves enlightenment, and suddenly he has more women chasing him than he can handle. Sure, his spear may be able to overcome all, but the rest of him requires such mundanities as sleep and food and bathroom breaks.

"I don't have any subordinates miss, but if you mean in the rampage faction as a whole," the lieutenant hesitated, his swollen. "I would have to consult-"

"Don't waste my time." Bing Meilu's cold voice rang out. "You know who the best curse masters in your faction are, Commodore."

"Commodore?"

Everyone looked at the kneeling lieutenant in confusion. An intrigued smile spread out on his face, still bruised and swollen by Jin Lao's slap. Then, a ripple of twitching flesh seemed to pour across his body.

In an instant, the kneeling lieutenant was gone, replaced by a tall, lithe man in blood-red robes. A humongous two-handed sword hung from his back, shedding a faint red light.

"So, just how did you see through my disguise?" asked Commodore Rampage Sword, one of seventieth Port Snake's four Nascent Soul experts.

Bing Meilu's slaves and the members of the Rampage Faction delegation looked on in shock at the sight. Jin Lao in particular seemed completely horrified.

"The Yin Dao is a path to powers many would find shocking," Bing Meilu replied, waving her hand dismissively. "Now answer my question."

"Oh? You seem quite confident in speaking to me so casually," the red-robed swordsman raised an eyebrow mockingly.

"You need me more than I need you. If you want to waste any more of my time, I'll just go ally with one of your rivals."

"Hpmm, kitty has claws-"

Bing Meilu turned and began to fly away. The smirk fell from Rampage Swords's face.

"Wait! The person you're looking for is actually Jin Lao. Who do you need to be cursed?"

"None of your business. The deal is quite simple. Jin Lao will be transferred to my faction and command for the next few years."

"That's a high price for the cooperation of your faction-"

"You misunderstand, that's not the price of allying with me. That's the price to have the chance to negotiate with me after the insult of sending a dog subordinate in your place to waste my time. If you actually want my help, you'll have to compete for it with the other three factions."

"Hahahah," the Commodore laughed uproariously. "Aren't you getting ahead of yourself?"

A brutal killing intent erupted from the Commodore, dousing the entire area in a heart-chilling aura. The foundation establishment lieutenants from the Rampage factory all collapsed, eyes rolling into their heads and mouths frothing.

Only Jiang Hu, Jin Lao and Bing Meilu stayed conscious under the pressure of the intense, mind-shattering feeling of death.

"I think it is you that is getting ahead of yourself, Commodore," Bing Meilu sneered. "While no one knows for sure what the Division Commander will set as the trial to choose his successor, it has been reliably leaked it will have to do with the power of one's subordinates, which is why all four of you Commodores have been raising a faction in the port. Whichever group I join will be the one to win, which I can absolutely guarantee. I have two Core Formation experts of great talent and several soon to reach that level. For the chance to become a Division Commander, the resources you could use to become a Saint, is there a price not worth it?"

"...Fine. Who would have expected you to drive such a hard bargain?" the killing intent completely retracted, and the red-robed man chuckled amicably. "Jin Lao's loyalty for the next few years in return for a place at the negotiating table,"

"No."

"...Huh?"

"Price has gone up. This is the second time you insulted me."

"You want another Core Formation expert?" Rampage Sword asked in disbelief.

"No. I was only interested in Jin Lao because of his cursing skill. You'll need something else of equal value."

"What about this?" Rampage-Sword pulled out a glowing crystal.

It was the core of a third-realm demon-beast.

"Don't make me laugh."

Several more magical treasures of the third realm were brought out and Bing Meilu rejected them all. A frustrated expression covered Rampage Sword's face.

He finally pulled out a large rainbow crystal that glew with myriad colours. This was the solidified remnant of a slain Nascent Soul, something worth several mountains of wealth. Bing Meilu smiled, retrieving it with her spiritual energy. Signing a blood contract for Jin Lao's service, the deal was done.

"Thank you for the generous donation. As it happens, I'll be auctioning off the allegiance of my faction next week. Whichever group has the best offer receives my services. You're invited. Now, shoo. I have things to do."

With that, everyone watched the famed Commodore Rampage Sword, a bloodthirsty sword cultivator who slaughtered any who offended him, shooed away by a small girl two entire Realms below his cultivation.

---

Xi Fu sighed, a sheet covering his lower body. His eyes were closed in contemplation. To his side, his girlfriend slept, snoring cutely.

'Heaven Defying means to be without restraint. All restraints are laws and can be defied with power and will. All restraints are a chain, something that can be- must be pierced.

Restraint... That is a rule that wraps around you, something that forces you to follow a path that is not your own will. If you jump, it is your will to go up, but gravity forces you back to the ground. if you fly, it is your will to soar through the air, but the world makes you fall. To follow one's will through every obstacle, that is the key to Heaven Defying.

But there are also internal constraints. I hesitated to follow my own will out of fear. Every hesitation, fear, every hangup and trauma, all are chains...'

Xi Fu recalled awakening his Heaven-Defying intent. How he had forcefully guided his Spear Qi through the air with his will alone, despite lacking a Dao-Platform, something he should have needed for such precise control.

'To break an outer chain is simple. My will, Intent to Defy Heaven, served as the guide for the spear. To break an inner restraint, my will must guide me through the chain. That is to say, I have to become a spear! Xi Fu is a spear, and his will must guide him forward, through everything and anything that binds or restrains him, until he can proudly defy every rule in heaven and earth. That state, that absolute liberation... that must be the Peak of Spear Cultivation.'

Xi Fu could feel the crystal embryo of his Spear Heart twitch and expand slightly. He could absorb spiritual energy to advance his cultivation in terms of power, but that was assuming he had the pre-requisite comprehension

Besides the man, a body stirred. Tang Fen'er opened her eyes, blinking wearily.

"Round two?" Xi Fu smirked.

She swatted his head with her pillow before rolling over.

"You have too much stamina for me. Go bother Meimei or Caoya," she snorted. "I'm not going to be able to feel that area for a week!"

Xi Fu received a stamina-restoring pill from his spatial ring. Fen'er's neighbours would get no sleep that night.

---

Several days later, Bing Meilu called a meeting. Zhang was left in seclusion, still in the process of converting his cultivation. Sima Yazhu was still pregnant and not yet involved in faction business. Everyone else had to attend.

Xia Xuefeng, Shen Xinyue, Li Ji, Jiang Hu, Ji Hui, Xi Fu, the Elemental Five and all the members of the outer circle.

"Greetings my loyal subordinates and my faithful slaves. I brought you all here so we could begin the next phase of our faction's expansion. I would first like to announce that my retainer Zhang had officially joined my Inner circle and is now directly in charge of the Outer Circle slaves. He will be in seclusion for at least a few months or years, until then Slave One will be a temporary leader."

Everyone nodded at the news. The enigmatic cripple had already essentially done that role, this only made it official.

"We are now opening up recruitment for the outer circle, given we have more than enough resources. I've written down the recruitment, compensation and rules for outer circle members."

A tablet of ice floated over to Slave One, whose name Bing Meilu had not yet bothered to learn. He nodded, storing the tablet in his spatial ring.

"Now, the largest change to our operations is the presence of our two new Core Formations, Xi Fu and Jiang Hu. Captains can charter their own ships and sail the high seas doing tasks. The true bulk of the Sky Swallowing Gulper Armada is in the sea, ports like these are only for the untalented dregs. If we intend to become truly successful, our eyes will be turned to the sea."

The Jade Wings Continent, the Bird Talon Continent, The Shattered Shell Continent, the Sparrow's Tail Continent and the Bird Beak Continent. With the Wings being of two separate mainlands, that was six landmasses total in the Jade Sparrow World, alongside the Jade Heart Palace, which was the World Core.

The Five Continents were separated by a massive, endless ocean. There was no 'official' name, but it was usually called either the Grand or Vast Expanse Ocean, after its sheer size, or Ximu's Demise, after a mythical explorer from the classical era said to have found its center only to be swallowed by the dark waters.

The ocean directly around the Bird Talon Continent was divided among the twelve Zodiac Fleets. As members of Snake Fleet, Snake Sea was their home base.

More specifically, as members of the Open Ocean Sector, they were in charge of the surface of the seas. Subjugating pirates, defending against a hypothetical invasion, protecting trade routes, and quelling demonic beasts to keep the waters safe for fishing, gathering ocean-based materials and farming certain spiritual sea life species. These and many more were the tasks of the Armada, and there were many paths to power and wealth as a member.

Beyond the waters managed by the Armada was the vast expanse of ocean. It was, without a doubt, the most dangerous and uncharted area of the Jade Sparrow World. Few known routes existed between the continents, and even then, special tools and knowledge were required to even have a chance of surviving a trip.

The only route used at all was between the Jade Wings Continent and the other four. The Wings were the central landmass and were closer to all four of the other landmasses than any of them were to each other. It would be a safer and shorter journey to head from the Talon to the Wings and then to the Beak than it would be to make a direct trip.

The size of the ocean was many, many times the amount of actual land. It was teeming with countless monstrous sea beasts, demons and monsters of all kinds. These sea monsters vastly outnumbered humanity and if one went deep enough, it was said that even Immortal-realm horrors could be found. But they were not close to the true most dangerous part of the waters.

In truth, Ximu's Demise was more of a chaotic, primordial mass of natural law that an actual body of physical water. This was something Bing Meilu had only learned after becoming an Immortal, but all the Realms within the Great Flock Realm System shared this endless ocean. The waters were ordered by the natural law of the realm they were closest to. That is to say, the further one went from the Continents of the Jade Sparrow World, the less its familiar natural laws applied.

Space would fold, sea and sky would invert, the speed and direction of time could suddenly shift or even halt. If one went far enough, even the basic laws of logic and common sense could change.

Eventually, one sailed beyond the reach of the Heavens of the Jade Sparrow World and arrived upon the chaotic depths of space-time, the in-between of the numerous planes that made up the Great Flock Realm. These endless illogic water were a place even causality broke down, where individual moments did not necessarily affect the next.

Only Immortals, who had an internal and self-justifying law of existence, could survive in those conditions. Eventually, if one went far enough, they could wind up in another world entirely, a place whose natural laws might be fundamentally hostile to human life, filled with life forms beyond comprehension.

Of course, from the perspective of the beings in those realms, their 'logic' was perfectly normal, and you were the bizarre eldritch horror from beyond the sea. It was all a matter of perspective.

"Is...is that why you had me rush all that paperwork?" Li Ji asked, eyes widening. "You wanted all the accounting, so our finances in order and ready to purchase a ship?"

"Not purchase, my slave. Build!"

Reaction post!

"Wait, the guy I just slapped in the face for reminding me that the boss said to get over myself and actually do my damn job... was secretly my boss!?"

Yeah, I have no sympathy at all for Jin Lao, but I can see why he's 'completely horrified.'

"The Yin Dao is a path to powers many would find shocking,"
:D

"None of your business. The deal is quite simple. Jin Lao will be transferred to my faction and command for the next few years."

"That's a high price for the cooperation of your faction-"

"You misunderstand, that's not the price of allying with me. That's the price to have the chance to negotiate with me after the insult of sending a dog subordinate in your place to waste my time. If you actually want my help, you'll have to compete for it with the other three factions."
:p

In all fairness, Commodore, even you should probably man up and admit that the guy you sent to negotiate is a worthless asshole.

What with the truth having literally slapped you in the face.

Hm. If this is how the guy treats his own minions, Bing, are you sure you want to ally with him?

Then again, the other factions are probably led by people just as head-up-ass as this one.

:D

I get the sense that one of the recurring sources of humor in xianxia is this endless escalating cycle of moronic and pointless effrontery, resulting in ever-escalating arrogant "renegotiations" as comeuppance for being a pointless offensive moron.

Xi Fu's rapidly escalating comprehension of how his Dao requires him to ignore any inhibitions or fears, entangled with Bing Meilu's colossal arrogance and demands for subordination, is going to continue being funny. I can smell it.

"Is...is that why you had me rush all that paperwork?" Li Ji asked, eyes widening. "You wanted all the accounting, so our finances in order and ready to purchase a ship?"

"Not purchase, my slave. Build!"
:D

Boat design time!

I'm guessing the next step involves a ridiculously good boat design.

Oh sweetie no

I'm not sure even cultivators are immune from the scourge of ship maintenance
They are not. Bing Meilu will be trapped in the money pit, and will get out through the power of her accountant's Book-Cooking Distillation Technique and her own mighty Absurd Shenanigans Constitution.

But even the Absurd Shenanigans Constitution will be challenged by the enigmatic Dao of Humor, which Bing Meilu understands not, when Xi Fu accidentally spears a hole in the bottom of the boat and Ji Hui absorbs the essence of a Spirit Severing Ghastly Moron-Seeking Walrus, which was drawn to him because oh hey it turns out that walruses are part of Caniformia after all! Well, and because it's right there in the name.

At this point Bing Meilu will overcome these obstacles in turn with the Face-Sinking Palm Technique.
