Battlebots Revival

I wonder if there are going to be designs inspired by the Razor... Looking over old Robot Wars videos, it seems like the powerful pincher type thing was pretty effective against most other designs.

'Crusher' or piercer bots? There was a good one that got out early in the lastest battlebots series. And by 'good one,' I mean Photon Storm (a new version of a Robot Wars vet), it faced the very drumbot in the above video, successfully grabbed and impaled it, but missed anything major, and Minotaur preventing it from getting another shot, but slightly different positioning and it'd have won solid.

You know, we really should move this to the battlebots thread
Yeah, I guess 'Piercer' is a good term for it.

One idea I had for a 'Peircer' a while back was based loosely off of the Dead Metal robot and Razor- Basically the same sort of hydraulic crushing action as razor, but anchored in the sides as well as the top so that any attack will have multiple points of entry.

(I've been calling the basic idea 'The Lamprey' in my head lol)

RNC coverage interfered with my DVR's recording of last week's Battlebots episode.
....
Thanks a lot for that, Donald.

New fights were okay. I have to wonder how much Mega Tento actually did to Stinger; it was a great fight but it looked like MT would lose that one. Not exactly bummed it made it, though, I love that derpy thing.

Best round had to be Hypershock vs Warrior Clan, though. The combat rake was amazing both as a stunt and as a strategy and the genuine joy of HS's driver when that drone went down was great. Intense fight in general with some great piloting, too. But yeah. Combat rake.

Greatest Rake I've ever seen.

Mega Tento asshoved it's way to victory

Nightmare...won? Is this real life? or is it just fantasy?

Edit: Alternate title for the past two episodes "Fuck Your Brackets"

And the DNC did cut into the Battlebots recording. About 50% of it rather than the RNC's 80%. Still only got to see one match, though. :(

I think beta might be ta might be first hammer weapon I've seen on battle bots that seems to actually be effective.

So I think the two Robots to watch are Beta and Hypershock. Well actually whoever wins beta verus Nightmare. I expect beta to win but this season as a whole has been very unexpected.

Also for Season 3 there needs to be some serious rule changes because damn some of the rules are really damn stupid.

I call bogus shenanigans on that Tento win, and look forward to seeing Yeti tear the bug apart when they meet up in the next round.

It really has been a season of upsets, hasn't it?

Chomp actually just murdered Captain Shrederator too, I was surprised at the efficacy of the hammers today as I'd basically written them off against 'real' opponents.

For what it's worth, the lead of Shrederator admitted that there wasn't much armor up top and that one hit might be all it would take to do him in. I think Chomp was more lucky than a real point in favor of hammers, especially with that seeding that gave her an opponent that her weapon was super effective against.

Beta, on the other hand (I keep wanting to call it 'Bet-ah' over 'Beet-ah'), I think it's got an effective weapon, though I worry it's a glass cannon when you look at its tendency to flip itself over and what looks like really weak armor.

I mean I can see the want to avoid push bots as push bot vs push bot matches tend to be really boring, but I think the primary weapon rule is stupid.

That's true, but Captain Shrederator is a full body spinner, it's just as likely that most of the damage was self inflicted.

Admittedly Battlebots is entertainment first and a legit sport second . But there needs to be a compromise that doesn't led to stuff like Brutus Winning because it's weapon was on and nothing else.

I agree. I think the better system to encourage more damaging weapons would be rather than making aggression tied to primary weapon only damage should count slightly more than the other two categories. While that does favor powerful weapons more, right now damage effectively counts twice as there is no real difference between damage and aggression other than the fact that you can score the latter with useless weapons.

On Mega Tento vs Stinger, I think I'd call it the same way. Stinger pushed Tento a bit, but did no damage, no flips. Tento took one wheel, got some hits on the others, and Stinger ended up flipped a time or two.

Frankly that was just a poor fight- Lockjaw showed almost no aggressiveness and just kept it's wedge forward, while pushing Brutus into almost nothing. I think there's an argument for Brutus winning simply on it just trying to attack, but that one really was an indecisive battle. If Lockjaw had used it's jaws more, it could've done much more.

Seeing the slow-mo, Chomp did land a couple nice top-shots. Against light armor... I'd say that was likely the reason, and Chomp's hammer *is* strong enough to flip it over nigh-constantly.

Still, it's no Beta, it won't do well against something with strong armor.

Chomp is an interesting little bot, but I think it was overengineered. That autopilot seems like it's not useful enough to offset the bot's fragility.

Stinger definitely had the match under control, unfortunately Mega Tento countered Stinger's main offensive method by virtue of being very big.
